IC:

It had been 8 months since the Alternate Incident, and The Imperial Navy was in a state of relative peace, with only the occasional raid on a pirate base to break the tedium. The Empire had now passed a new edict, banning any further research into dimensional or matter transport. With one exception, A facility created on Arcadia to research a method to prevent further incursions into our universe.

Lord Alexander Gregory, supreme commander of the Imperial Armada, had just defeated a large pirate fleet. Finally his fleet was returning to Earth, for refit and shore leave purposes. It had been some time since Gregory had been back at Earth, and now he just wanted to spend some time with his wife, and take some time off.

“Status Commander.” Snapped Lord Gregory. “Entering Earth orbit my Lord. Docking with the Imperial shipyards will be complete in 12 minutes.” Replied Commander Drel. “Sounds like you’re glad to be home.” Chuckled Lord Gregory. “You could say that sir. It’ll be nice to see the kids again.” The two men shared a laugh and a few jokes, until there was a beep on the console. “Lord Gregory, there is a type 4 encrypted comm coming through, requesting to speak to you alone!” Noted the Comms officer. “Type 4? Whoever that is, they must be Imperial intelligence!”

Gregory accessed the message on his chair panel. Typing in his decryption password, a simple message appeared. “You have been deceived. If you wish to hear the truth, meet me at the former site of the Imperial Temporal research facility. 12 midnight. Come alone, or not at all.” The message clearly had a protection algorithm, as the message deleted itself almost as soon as Gregory had read it. Shortly after that there was a clunking sound as the ship docked.

Gregory ran straight into his wifes arms. Admiral Bellena had rushed over as soon as he docked. "Why does all this crap keep happening to us? Gregory looked despondent. “I’m sorry. I wish I could make it up to you.” Bellena lit up. “Well how about dinner?” Gregory lowered his head. “I’m sorry, but I’ll have to pass tonight. I have work to do.” Bellena immediately slapped him across the face. “It’s always work with you!!!” Bellena stormed off, slamming the airlock to her shuttle.

Lord Gregory stopped his transport just outside the research facility. There wasn’t much left, just a small crater and a few warning signs telling of low-level radiation. Gregory noticed a person standing right next to the crater. The shadowy figure beckoned him forward. “Lord Alexander Gregory I assume. We have much to discuss.” Gregory readied his blade, and stepped forward. “Who are you? You must have some influence within the Armada to be able to send me a type 4 encrypted message.” The shadowy figure became clearer as he stepped forward. It was a middle-aged man, bald, short... and wearing a tattered lab coat. “Let’s just say I’m a computer expert. I was one of the technicians who worked on the Imperial teleportation device. As far as the Empire knows, I’m dead. I‘ve been covering my tracks pretty well.” Gregory looked confused. “So if you wish to stay hidden, why did you call me? You do realise I command the Imperial armada!”

The bald man chuckled lightly. “Fool... you do not even realise the truth. The commander of the Armada, you may be, but you are not the highest-ranking officer in the Imperial Armada... And you have been misled all this time. You learn a lot when you hack into the Imperial Network.” Gregory looked angrily at the man, raising his sword. “What kind of idiot do you take me for! I know everything that happens in the Empire. The Emperor briefs me personally on All that happens!” The bald man laughed harder, almost mockingly. “I had no idea you were this stupid. The Emperor keeps much from you. He tells you nothing of the 6th Imperial fleet. He tells you nothing of what really happened to the Imperial Teleportation project.” Gregory pointed his sword at the man. “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!” The man took a datacore out of his pocket and tossed it at Gregory’s feet. “The Alternate incident was no accident. and this disk pro...” Blood poured from the mans head as a blaster pierced his skull. Gregory looked around franticly, worried he was next, but there was nothing. No sign of anyone. He turned, grabbing the datacore dropped by the now dead man, and fled to his transport.

The web and the Warp where strange realms, transport through the Warp was rare for the Eldar, it was a dangerous trip to make after all, a realm hostile to those who entered it but at times necessary for the Eldar, where Webgates did not reach. It was when compared to other forms of FTL slow on top of all the other problems. Which is why the Eldar’s fleet did not use it.

They used the Web wherever possible, a strange other realm, created millennia ago gates to this realm where spread throughout space from the time of the ancient Empire. It was a realm the Eldar as a whole where the masters of, not uncontested a few times Deamons slipped into it from lost worlds, and the Eldar where not a united race, still none truly challenged the Eldar for dominance of the web, none would wrest it from them.

It was here that the Corsairs had gathered it was here in one of the largest passageways of it’s labyrinth corridors that the spurned Duke gathered and met with others, there a lesser Noble, as the Corsairs viewed it, behind him a Captain fresh to the Corsair life and looking to make a name for himself. It was strange gathering; here at rest it appeared more than a bachninel than a council of war. Some lazed with their lovers, or smoked from a pipe in the centre of the room some strange drug or other. Others even swapped goods between gems stones twinkling in the air in a display of wealth that would make planetary governors weep in envy.

‘I have sent eyes ahead of me, Rangers in need of work as the Craftworld is at peace right now, eyes on the ground and they will find us what we are looking for my friends. Soon, we shall have wealth enough to satisfy even your needs. I have shown you the plan, are we in agreement with it.’ The man at the centre of it all said with a gleam in his eye.

The others around him nodded slowly they had heard his report, had heard that to profit from this they could not attack the ships, it would be a wasted gesture. Rather they would strike elsewhere. ‘And the price we shall demand for when this all begins, for our aid, is it sufficient for you all?’ he asked almost as an afterthought.

The room was filled with a chorus of ayes and cheers in answer; all that remained now was for the rangers to report it had begun.

****Elsewhere****

He sat at the rear of a bar and watched; occasionally a passing waitress was asked to bring him another drink. Occasionally the waitress would be complemented and the man would lean over and whisper something into her ear, with a suggestive edge to his voice. She would laugh and move on, nothing she didn’t get a hundred times a night no doubt, still he was confident in himself. He had played this game before and humans where so easily manipulated, he was in little doubt that if he wished he would be going back to the woman’s bed tonight. It made it easier when he had no place of his own to stay, merely a locker with his belongings in. So far he had not had to sleep rough since his arrival.

He wasn’t watching for much really, others where looking for targets, but he had a simple role here. Simple and pleasurable, he watched for the signs of the wars beginning. He had found a bar and claimed it for himself, almost becoming as common a sight as the locals, when he entered they waved at him. Few wondered about the lithe man, with the long hair now, his ears always covered, his face slightly angular in appearance. They did marvel at his luck with, well anyone he set his sights on, and at the fact it clearly wasn’t of interest to the man if those he slept with where male or female.

All in all he was a decent enough man, he paid for drinks occasionally, but not too often to be suspicious, he talked to others, although rarely about himself, somehow he deflected those conversations without seeming to try. In short he was anyone else at a bar, and that was how he wanted it. Sooner or later the war would start, and when it did this was the type of place that would talk about it, analyse it, it was close to a Military base after all, some of the patrons likely had family that served, and while they would never say where, or how, they would talk about their worries over their loved ones.

So he watched and waited, and drank, and had himself a good time, all in all there where far worse ways to spy in the galaxy.

Gregory got home just after 2am. He headed straight to his home terminal, and activated the disk, also disconnecting from the Imperial network as a precaution. It powered up, and the familiar face of the bald man appeared on the screen.

"Lord Gregory. If you are viewing this then I am dead. Hell I was expecting it. But regardless, this disk contains everything on what I am about to tell you... The Alternate incident was intended to happen. It was no 'accident'. Whilst messing with experimental technology, Admiral Yarris secretly discovered the Alternate universe. But Yarris's fleet lacked the strengh to defeat the Alternate empire's fleet. That is when the Emperor thought of you. He knew that you were the only one who could defeat yourself. Although things didn't play out as planned, the loss of your arm and all, the Empire was victorious, destroying the entire enemy Armada. This allowed Yarris's fleet to invade and enslave the alternate Earth. The planet is now a strip-mine. It's people now mere workers for the Imperial war machine. I beg you Lord Gregory, right these wrongs. Defeat the Emperor at his own game. Admiral Yarris unknown to you, actually outranks you. he can issue counter orders to your fleets and overule you. Then of course I learned of the Emperor's latest plan. He has surely gone mad. He has had himself built a new flagship, which can destroy life at the cellular level. He plans to use this for a sneak invasion of Moleland! You must stop him before he destroys your friend! I hope you make the right choice My Lord. Good luck. And good bye."

With that, the disk switched to it's files, showing Gregory everything. The plan for the invasion of the Alternate Earth, a design for a universal teleporter, and design plans for the Eternum and the invasion of Mole space.

"But that ship... that was the one that fired at the pirates... THIS CANNOT BE!"

Gregory raised his false hand, smashing the terminal monitor to pieces. This woke his wife, Bellena, who came darting into the room.

"Alex! What's the matter?"

"N...nothing my dear. I have to leave. I'm heading for Moleland at once!"

"But why? You just got home!"

Gregory retrieved the disk.

"I cannot tell you. It may endanger you. Will you stay at home until I return? I must ask you to do this."

"I... Will darling, but at least tell me you won't put yourself in danger."

"I cannot promise that my dear. What I do now I must do for the good of the Empire."

Gregory began to make his way to the shuttlebay. Along the way, he activated his communicator.

"All hands return to the Infinity at once. This is not a drill. You will be addressed once I board."

It took an hour for Gregory to explain the situation to his crew and show them the evidence, as they made their way to mole space. Most were outraged.

"Our own Emperor used us to gain a few slaves! That bastard! You have the crews full support my Lord." Raged Commander Drel.

"Thank you men... I don't know what to say... lets just hope that Striker shares our concerns..."

"We're entering Mole space now my Lord."

---------------------------------------------

Admiral Yarris himself paced into the Imperial Palace, and made for the throne room.

"Yes Yarris... it must be very important if you have come here yourself."

"I'm afraid so my Emperor... I have recived word from my spy on the Infinity. Lord Gregory, he knows of our plans..."

"So you have failed me. Gregory will no doubt try to stop us now. I was hoping to do all this behind his back... He is too important to me Yarris."

"My apologies my Emperor. But we have no choice now. We must eradicate Gregory if our plans are to succeed."

"Dealing with the situation will be easy. I shall declare Gregory a traitor to the Empire, and place a bounty on his head. There are plenty of scum out there willing to do our job for us. Gregory has made enough enemies."

"A wise decision my Emperor. Shall I broadcast Gregory's 'betrayal' over the Imperial Holonet?

"No. I shall broadcast it. You shall return to the Eternum. There you shall await my orders."

"Yes my Emperor. I shall depart at once."

The Frigates Osprey and Hawk took up their intercept position. Forward Units had reported a ship approaching them at high speed, even for Hyperspace. The engine signature had fallen within known Imperial Engines so it was assumed to be an imperial Ship. The Captain of the Hawk had spent the last few minutes thinking through the opening hail. Finally, as the ship came close enough he spoke

'Attention Imperial vessel, this is the Frigate Hawk of the Mole 3rd Fleet. You have pentrated the Mole Frontier, pl...' His voice trailed off as the sensors identified the ship. It was the Infinity.

The Captain of the Hawk was frozen to the spot in a mixture of shock and awe. Fortuately, the more experienced Captain of the Osprey was able to salvage the Situation.

'This is Frigate Osprey to the Infinity. You have entered Mole Space. We were not expecting you to visit. Please state your purpose and Destination.' With that, he ordered his crew to charge there weapons, in accordance with stand proceedure.

However...

Onboard the Hawk

'Sir, the Osprey have charged their weapons - Should we do the same? Sir? Sir?!!'

The Captain remained opened mouthed and immobile, a spectator to events...

"Huh? why'd they hang up?"

'This is Frigate Osprey to the Infinity. You have entered Mole Space. We were not expecting you to visit. Please state your purpose and Destination.'

"Lord Gregory, we have 2 moleland cruisers entering visual range. One is charging it's weapons, the other seems... rather bemused."

"Open a channel."

"Open sir."

'Vital? No matter how vital, one does not simply turn up and demand an audience with our King - which is the title you should refer to him as. We shall however forward your 'request' to MSC High command. Please wait'

With that, there was a very long, drawn out communication exchanged from the Osprey and a nearby Comm satt...

The Hawk at last returned to the land of the living.

'Oh my... Infinity Standby'

Seconds later, a MCD destroyer exited Hyperspace.

'Infinity? This is MCD Albertross. We are to take you directly to Moleland. Follow behind us in our wake. We have full security clearance. Do not deviate from our course or you will be intercepted. Understood?'

Then, without even waiting for a reply, the Albertross swung about and entered hyperspace.

She was not best pleased to be honest, not happy at all, she grumbled the entire way to this city and this building and she would likely grumble the entire way home afterwards. She always did these days when she was sent out on a job, or hired for one, and to be honest she usually refused any offers that didn’t come for the Council. She wanted to be at home curled up in her bed around her wife. These days she was never entirely sure she was really rested unless it was on top of her firm body and wrapped in her strong arms.

Yes Bal-Shannar grumbled she hated being here, but, she had responsibilities, she wanted to pull her own weight and provide a share of the monies that kept them with a roof over their heads, and that bed she loved so very much. So she had accepted this rather simple job, get inside the human palace, past the guards and deliver a message to this Emperor. Okay not exactly a simple job, but Bal-Shannar was very good at her job. As immodest as she was in other areas, this wasn’t such; she was as good at this as she thought she was.

So here she was staring at a wall, and guards, well the guards where no problem. She sighted them through the lens of her Sniper-rifle tucked under the cover of her Camo-Cloak she was practically invisible right now, birds rested on her head she made so little sound and moved so little. She watched and waited, memorising the guards routine she even knew if any of them smoked so long was she there. She would not underestimate the Palace guards of course, but it was important she get in without being noticed.

To that aim she had loaded her weapon with unusual toxins, not to kill or even render a guard unconscious, or cause them to wish for death. These simply mimicked in the target the effects of heavy drinking; in effect when she began it would appear some of the guards had decided to have a little party. In the ensuing chaos that would cause who would notice one more servant returning late. She had even the proper papers, provided by a contact in the cities underworld. The Kionash Outcasts had many such contacts, not least because they had received some not so small state aid in gaining them.

One last internal sigh and she was ready to begin the night’s work, and earn the pay she would get at the end of the day from it. Perhaps on the way back she could stop off at a suitable lingerie shop and buy something to surprise her love with when she got home. She so loved the look on her wife’s face when she did that, and her reaction afterwards.

During the hyper jump, the Albertross made multiple course corrections. It is a credit to the crew of the Infinity that they matched them exactly. After what seemed like an eternity (but was only 3 hours) They arrived in the orbit of Sad Planet.

Immediately upon exiting hyperspace, the two ships were surrounded by what seem to be half the 1st Fleet. All had their weapons charged and aimed at the Infinity. The lead ship, SCD Victory, opened a communications channel.

'This is Grand Admiral Martins of the 1st Fleet. Your Government is branding you and your crew as 'Traitors' and plotting to invade Moleland - although with one ship that seems unlikely, even if that ship is the Infinity. I assume your business here is honourable and not some devious trap? We now you Imperials can be tricky and deceitful...'

"If Striker is listening, Tell him it's Gregory. I fought alongside him, I've saved his Empire several times, as he has mine, and I'd never betray a friends trust. Check the transmission I sent you. There's no way that could've been forged! I'm here to save you again, and I'll fight against my own people if I have to. I've been betrayed. And so have you!"

Gregory bowed his head.

"I'm risking everything I've ever known and loved on this... please, trust me..."

Martins nodded his head. 'Very well. Then I assume you will not protest against us sending a shuttle over to take you down to the surface?'

Commander Drel was distressed.

"I trust these moles more than anyone. And Strikers got some sort of plan. I'll just have to follow it."

Lord Gregory strolled from the deck, heading to and waiting at the docking platform.

The Admiral's of the Armada met within the great halls of the Imperial palace, to discuss Lord Gregory's "Betrayal."

Admiral Galcian had been appointed Lord of the Armada in Gregory's place. Admiral Bellena had been relieved from her post, due to the nature of her relationship, but was still present. Admirals Valdoor and Falkiri had taken seats at the table, and remained silent. Admiral Vyse was pacing impatiently.

"Why would Gregory do this? He's had less lust for power than any of us?"

Galcian smiled. "All men of greed are capable of hiding it."

"Shut it Galcian! You can talk, always wanting his job!"

"And now I have it!" Smiled Galcian.

"You son of a bitch!" Screamed Vyse, smashing Galcian in the face. Galcian rose to his feet, wiping the blood from his lip as Vyse stormed out of the room.

"Looks like we're going to be losing another of our admirals soon..."

Admiral Bellena was too busy sobbing into her hands. Galcian placed his hand on her shoulder.

"My dear I am so sorry about your husband. If we had seen this earlier, we could have stopped him."

Bellena threw off Galcians hand and fled the room, still sobbing. Galcian's eyebrow raised with ire, as he turned to the remaining Admirals.

"I trust that you two will not give me reason to suspect your loyalty?"

The two Admirals saluted. "No my Lord. I follow without question!" replied Valdoor. "We'll follow you to the end!" Replied Falkiri.

Galcian smiled. "Good. It is always nice to have pawns."

Shuriken weapons don’t make too much noise when hey fire, Powered as they are by Grav tech no flash accompanies them either. This was true of the basic model used by Dire Avengers in the open battlefield; it was even truer then of Sniper-Rifles. Each shot was silent truly silent, no sound gave her away; no recoil forced her to move even slightly. Just slivers of Crystal that where filled with a Chemical compound that when it struck a guard injected itself into his blood stream before dissolving away into nothing.

The actual impact would likely sting, much like a mosquito bite, or a bee sting, the chemical used to dissolve away the shard of Crystal might be a little more painful, but by then the powerful toxin would be spreading through the targets system. A giddy feeling would spread next, a happy almost drunken feeling the target would feel like they had just finished a night of heavy drinking with their mates, and where now making their way home.

If you have ever seen such heavily drunk students you’d know the type, everything seems a good idea, pushing over construction fences, or stealing road signs to fill your house with. When Sober you look back on such moments and ask why, but that never stops a home being filled with Junk pilfered on the way home. That was the state the drug left those it hit in.

Now all Bal had to do was wait.

(OOC oh I miss those drunken days of student hood where one of my friends stole a table, to be fair it had been left out for the taking. Yet I still remember waking up the next day walking downstairs, and seeing a table in the front room that had not been there when I went to bed.)

As the Officers directed Gregory to his seat, with views out of both sides of the shuttle, the flight crew continued the running gag.

'This is your Captain speaking. The Moleland Express will be departing soon, calling at Moleland. This service terminates at Moleland. All passengers are reminded that abusing members of staff will result in execution. This service is fast to Moleland.

The Shuttle detached itself from the Infinity and headed towards the planets surface. The Voice was head again

'If passenegers look to their left, you will see 2 of our Escort shuttle escort...'

The two officers - who up to this point had kept their composure - now started to snigger

'... and to out right you will see the other one. This proves that here on the Moleland Express custumer safety is our number one concern.'

The Shuttle proceeded through the atmosphere of the planet. Below them loomed the vast, barren Wasteland that was Moleland. Only two structures were visible from the surface - both of which were instantly recognisable to Gregory.

'If passengers look to left of the shuttle, you can now see Moley Mud - our international football stadium. Directly ahead of us now is Mole Mountain - were our tragically short journey will reach its conclusion'

By now, the two officers were in almost rolling on the floor laughing - only their seat restraits preventing them doing so.

'We are now preparing landing proceedures. Passengers are reminded to be seated at all times whilst the shuttle is in motion...'

---------------------------

From his throne room, King Striker saw the shuttle come into land. He had looked at the data recieved from Gregory. It made disturbing reading. It was th stuff of nightmares - the worse possible news... He hoped it was false it had to be...

---------------

Gregory was directed by the officers out into the starport. Just as he was about to leave the 'Moleland Express' the chirpy voice called out again

'Thank you for chosing the Moleland Express. We hope to see you again soon!'

As the shuttle door sealed up to howls of laughter, Gregory was greeted by a commander with some sort of motorised transport nearby

'Lord Gregory - Welcome to Moleland'

OOC: So let me get this straight. You're getting my men drunk?

Yep drunken guards are noisy guards, the plan is a sergeant comes out and balls them out for being drunk on duty, the guards get roudy back so more men are called over to deal with it. Chaos ensues, the guards who are 'Drunk' insist they havn't had a drop but they would say that wouldn't they... their drunk on duty! In the end when the confusion gets to it's height Bal walks up to the gate in servants uniform hands over her (Faked) papers and hopefully gets waved through by over worked guards keeping an eye on their crazy mates drunk.

Next day after Bal has been and gone the guards will likely be examined by the doc and it discovered they have no alcohol in their system, they where not drunk. (Hey no need to get innocent NPC's fired)

Edit to add. I know it sounds daft but what other options would work that wouldn't get noticed? Knock a guard unconcious and it gets noticed during the next check in at the very latest, same with killing a guard. On the other hand provide something that looks like one thing, when it's something else and it might just work.

The Commander nodded. Minutes later the transport slowed up. It then came to gradual stop.

'There you go sir. You may enter when you are ready'

As Gregory walked past the heavily armed guards he couldn't help feeling nervous - almost as though someone was watching him. But, when he glanced round there was no one.

Upon entering, the King was standing to waiting for him.

'Ah! My honoured friend! It is good to see you again. Although, it is a pity it isn't under more pleasant circumstances.'

He indicated to a chair in front of Gregory

'Do sit down.' The King then took his own seat.

'I fear your journey here was tedious...'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 00:28
"You could say that..." Gregory said as he sat down. He held his head in his hands.

"My friend, I fear I must fight my own people. And if I don't they'll try to destroy you."

The King took a took a deep breath. 'Yes I looked at the little party package you sent us. Forgive me -clearly my ruling duties have numbed my scientific senses somewhat. Consequently, I'm struggling to make heads or tails of this plan...'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 00:33
"It's quite simple..." Said Gregory, almost stuttering.

"He wants to bring his ship here, to your homeworld...and... fire his cannon on your capitol city... and... he'll cripple you..."

Tears were running down Gregory's cheeks.

"Oh Striker, he's going against everything I ever believed in!"
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 00:36
Striker stood up and looked out of his viewing window. In a normal city, a leader would look down on the vast city below. But, in Moleland, the cities were underground. He merely looked out onto the vast emptiness.

Gregory just nodded slowly.

30-07-2008, 00:39
The King was crestfallen - almost like a Father had just his only Child - again, only through this time he'd died of a cut finger.

'What... what do you expect me to do?'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 00:42
"Fight with me once more my friend. Help me free my people from tyranny! My fleet will be loyal to me. Together we stand a chance! If you don't, your people will be devastated!"
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 00:44
Striker sighed

'I feared you'd say that. You are asking me to send many young Moles out to die on a cause that may or may not be true... If only the correct path would reveal itself to me.'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 00:46
"Well friend, this all boils down to one point. Which of us do you trust? The Emperor, or me?"
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 00:47
'I have no reason to distrust either of you. However, your Emperor has branded you a traitor - something I know you not to be.'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 00:49
"Then I think you have your answer, my friend."
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 00:50
'But's it not that simple. I'll need this evidence analysed by our Experts. I'll shall summon you when that is done. For now, I have an armed compound for you to stay in nearby. Try and rest my friend.'
That Imperial Navy

"You shall need to inform my crew of the goings on, and assure them I am alright."

-----------------------------------------

Admiral Vyse and Admiral Bellena met up aboard Vyse's Flagship, the Liberator.

"Admiral Bellena, You and I both know that Lord Gregory is innocent. He must have a good reason to flee into mole space like that. Only an idiot would attack with one ship."

"I know... but my fleet is loyal to the Emperor! They would never obey me if I went rogue!"

"Ah, but I know who will follow you. I've already spoken to Gregory's fleet. They believe he is innocent as well, and will follow us. Take command of his fleet, and look after them."

Bellena smiled. "Aye aye sir!"

"All ships depart! Set course following the Infinity's trajectory and jump to hyperspace!"
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 01:07
'Of course...'

As Gregory left the room, the Commander met him again

'This way sir'

The Commander guided Gregory through the maze of tunnels that is Mole Mountain until they reached a room. Outside were some more troops.

As Gregory entered, the room was basic. A bed, and a computer terminal with a com channel to the Infinity

'We shall get you when the King summons you. If you need us you must call for us.'

The commander then left, locking the door behind him. Gregory was left to his own devices...
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 11:12
Gregory activated the console. The face of Commander Drel appeared on the screen.

"My Lord! I'm glad to see you are safe!"

"You had nothing to fear Commander. Striker has long been my friend. He would not willingly bring harm to me."

"That's good to hear. Have you shown him the data?"

"Yes commander. I only hope he realises the truth before it is too late. I can't take on the entire fleet with one ship. But i'll do it if it means I can die defending my friends. Any word from Earth?"

Drel suddenly lowered his head.

"The Emperor has placed a bounty of 1 billion Imperial Credits on your head. Every piece of scum in the galaxy is going to be looking for you."

"A shame. But very predictable. This proves to me beyond a doubt that the Emperor is completely behind the whole thing."

"I'm afraid so my Lord. We'll wait for you to finish your business. Drel out."

INS news flash

Word has just reached us that Admiral's Vyse and Bellena have deserted their posts and have fled with several ships under their command for the Moleland border. The Emperor has also declared them traitors. We now go to a live statement.

"This is clear proof that Gregory is starting his invasion! Even now his pawns make for the Moleland border to assault their fleet! I urge Moleland's fleet to fire on sight! Give no quater! Your friends in The Imperial Fleet will back you up if you should require!"

Latest Opinion polls show divided support for the Emperor and Gregory. About 20% of the population now believe that Lord Gregory has been betrayed by the Emperor. In fact, INS News has just recieved this document that shows... HEY! who the hell are you? No! You can't just...

Until further notice, all News broadcasts will be off the air. Statements by the Emperor will be made shortly. Now back to your regular Holovids.

'...Are you positive?'

'Yes your highness. Our experts were quite clear. This information is not fake. It could 'misdirection' but Gregory has not forged this'

The King sighed. 'I was afraid you would say that. Mobilise all fleets and gather all Fleet commanders here. Moleland is going to war...'

'Understood. You majesty, more reports from the Imperials suggest a large traitor fleet - Shall I order the 3rd Fleet to intercept?'

'No... I have a feeling the Emperor has just told us they are here to join us. Normal proceedures please

'As you wish. '

With that, Grand Admiral Martins left the throne room and headed back to his Starship. Shortly upon his return, there was a massive increase in communication traffic and the fleets were activated...
That Imperial Navy

"Admiral Yarris? Report."

"Bad news my Emperor. The Moles know of our invasion plans. Intercepted comm chatter has indicated that the Moles are mobolising for war. Should we cancel the invasion and take the diplomatic route?"

"No. We are too far in. Besides, the Eternum Can take on anything. We shall prepare the fleet, and make for mole space. I trust the secret fleet we amassed in Planetary system 07PJK is ready for deployment?"

"Yes my Lord. The remenants of the Pirate fleet and a number of secretly constructed vessels are ready for deployment. We shall be ready to attack in 2 days."

"You have 24 hours Admiral. We attack soon. Let us just hope our bounty hunters come through for us before the end."

Official statement from the Emperor

Recent information has been bought to light that now proves we were wrong. It was not a planned invasion by Lord Gregory. Lord Gregory has joined Moleland in a plot to invade us! Therefore we cut all diplomatic ties with Moleland, and declare war! We shall crush those who would threaten our Great Empire! And we increase the bounty on Lord Gregory's head to 10 Billion Credits! The Empire will prevail!

End of Statement

Across the Imperial city, riots were breaking out in support of Lord Gregory. These riots were quickly supressed by the Black Legion, a secret organisation working for the Emperor.

The King was informed about the declaration of war.

So... the Emperor is planning an invasion...

The King's thoughts were interrupted by the return of Martins.

'Your Majesty, the other Fleet Commanders will arrive soon - Shall I order Gregory to be brought here?'

'Very good Grand Admiral'

Martins bowed and left the throne room. A Commander was waiting for him

'Make sure he makes it here safely - I fear someone will try and kill him. Take any escort you need'

'Aye sir!'

Moments later, Gregory's door flew open.

'Lord Gregory - are you ready?'
That Imperial Navy

"I am. I trust the Emperor has just shown his true colours?"
Moleland 3

'It appears so'

Gregory's eyes caught site of the 5 robot units waiting with the commander - 1 MUSRUM, 2 FUSE GV and 2 Mole troopers.

'If you just want to follow me...'
That Imperial Navy

"Quite an escort you have here."
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 13:15
'Yes - the money on your head has been increased ten fold! This is merely a precaution - that much money can make people desperate.'

As the robots walked, slowing the pace of the walk, The FUSEs eyes were coloured orange, The Mole troopers had Green and the MUSRUM had blue ones.

Gregory continued to follow.

"Tell me, any news of my Wife? I hope she is ok."

'None as yet. We shall keep you posted.'

Suddenly, the MUSRUM halted.

'Unexpected lifeforms approaching...

The commander directed Gregory to take cover, the two FUSEs shadowing his movements. The other 3 took up defensive positions.

'Halt! Indentify yourself!!!

Instantly, blue repeater bolts flashed past Gregory, missing him by inches. The commander was hit multiple times from different directions. he screamed in agony and fell to the ground.

Instantly, the FUSEs triggered the alarm system, and the defence systems began to activate. The other two returned fire, and quickly forced the would be bounty hunters into a hasty retreat.

' 9 enemies destroyed...' The MUSRUM stated.
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 13:48
"Damn. We should hurry."

A few of the would be attackers had fallen to Gregory's blade, which moved swiftly and precisely.

"The commander... is he...?"

---------------------------------------------------------

"Entering Mole space Admiral."

Admiral Vyse stood apon the deck, his face grim.

"Admiral Bellena, this is Vyse. Is everything ok over there?"

"Shipwise, yes. Me-wise, no. We're looking down the barrel of oblivion. And well, I have a real bad feeling about this."

The two fleets, totaling some 800 ships entered the Moleland sector.

A soltiary Frigate awaited them. 'This is Frigate Osprey. Identify yourselves immediately or be considered hostile.'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 15:12
"Agreed." Sighed Gregory, who began to dart for the throne room.

-------------------------------------------

"This is Admiral Vyse, Commander of the 3rd Fleet. I am here with Lord Gregory's wife. We are here to stand with Gregory and Moleland."

"I stand by my Husband. Tell Gregory I have bought his fleet with me!"

30-07-2008, 15:16
The relief onboard the Osprey was tangible.

'Very Good. Proceed to the gathering point orbitting the Chocolate planet. It is 2 1/2 hours away. Your presense here is most welcome'

----------

As Gregory approached the throne room, he could hear laser fire in the distance. However, his journey to the Throne was uneventful. Upon entering, The King was sitting opposite a long rectangle-shaped table. He indicated to Gregory to sit in one of the many chairs. On the opposite side of the room, Grand Admiral Martins was already seated.

'Sorry Gregory - it appears money can corrupt the souls of even the loyalist mole...'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 15:28
"That's nice to hear. We're heading there now. Please relay to Gregory that his wife is ok."

-----------------------------------------------------

"What is it now Yarris?"

"My Emperor, the Moleland fleet is amassing. As we suspected, Vyse and Bellena have joined the enemy."

"It is of no matter. We shall destroy them all."

"My Emperor, reports indicate that there are riots breaking out across the Empire. Some colonies have declared their support for Gregory. Any opposition is being swiftly delt with though my Lord."

"Do not worry Yarris. Once we have won this battle, No one will dare question us. Not when we can bring the Eternum cannon upon them."

"Indeed my Emperor. Have you chosen a planet to test fire the cannon upon?"

"I have. This planet here."

The Emperor pointed to the Rithar system.

"A wise choice my Emperor. That system is only inhabited by a primative species. No one will miss them."

"Make your way to the Rithar system, and test the weapon on the planet. Broadcast it openly on the Imperial holonet. That will put the fear of whatever deity they worship into them!"

"Yes my Emperor. Yarris out."
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 15:34
As Gregory took his seat, 2 more Grand Admirals filed in. Leaving two empty seats. The King took his seat.

'Gentlemen, we are at War. Already, the Imperial Fleets are planning to attack. We must strike first and Strike hard. Fortuanately, Two Imperial Fleets have deserted and joined our ranks. Even so, a conflict will be costly. Do I have everyone's support?'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 15:48
"My fleets will follow you to the end. You have my support." Immediatly replied Gregory.

Suddenly, Gregory's holotransmitter beeped. Activating the transmitter, a 3D image was projected on the table.

"I am Admiral Yarris of the Imperial Armada. And this is a message to all who oppose The Imperial Navy."

The screen changed to show a very long, black cannon protruding from the front of the vessel.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Eternum cannon. A weapon that can destroy life, yet leave a planet worth conquering. And now for a physical demonstration. This is Rithar Prime, home to a species of primative life. And now..."

Gregory got to his feet. "NO! YOU CAN't DO THAT! NOOOO!" He shouted hopelessly, for there was no way Yarris could hear him.

"...Fire the Eternum cannon."

The cannon built up with a bright white light, and erupted in a lance of pure energy. A pulse of white light spread across the planet, destroying everything biological. What was left was a brown lump of rock, floating in space.

"I trust you have learned a valuable lesson today. Oppose the Empire, and you will get that. Oh and if you're on Earth, don't worry. The strengh of the cannon can be adjusted to just cover one nation, one continent. Or half the planet. Thank you for listening."

With that, the transmission terminated. Gregory slumped into his chair, and sobbed quietly.

"That... That was GENOCIDE!"
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 15:55
Striker was deflated. 'It was indeed a cowardly and dreadful act. How can we hope to defeat such a thing?'

'No worries your Majesty! This only the third time Moleland has faced complete annilation from a alien superweapon!' Joked Grand Admiral Martins. This prompted the other Grand Admirals to nervously laugh

'Seriously sir. Our Scientists reckon we can alter our sheilds to prevent that weapon having an effect - although the sheilds most be above 20%.'

'So... some Good news. Gregory - Where do you suggest we launch our fatal blow to your empire?'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 15:57
"I suggest we attack on your borders. Then we may be able to use your automated defenses as well."
Moleland 3
30-07-2008, 16:07
'A good idea. Are all Fleets assembled?'

'Aye, your Majesty.'

'Good. The 2nd and 3rd Fleets are to continue with normal duties. Half the 1st fleet shall continue their normal duties. The remaining Forces shall be taken into battle, lead by you Grand Admirals. I shall command the 6th Fleet myself from the Explorer 2...'

'My King! Moleland cannot afford to lose her King!'

'I don't intend to die, Grand Admiral. But this is personal - the Explorer 2 will have her revenge. Martins - I'll need you to brief our armada on our mission objectives - understood?'

'Of course.'

'Then you and your fellow Grand Admirals are dismissed.'

The 4 Moles marched proudly from the room

'Whew. This is serious stuff...'
That Imperial Navy
30-07-2008, 16:17
Gregory opened a link to the Inifnity.

"Yes my Lord?"

"I'm comming back on board. We're going to war."

"That's not what I wanted to hear sir."

"Sorry Commander. But we have no choice."

"I know. The crew is behind you. Oh, and it may interest you to know one of the crew is now dead. We found him trying to sabotage the engines, so he was shot."

"I'll bet he was one of Yarris's pawns..."

"Indeed sir. We await your arrival. Drel out."

Greywatch
30-07-2008, 16:21
Shortly after the Imperial weapon was fired a Greywatch scout dropped from PSR some distance from the planet. Energy readings like that were hard to miss for Stargazers Drones, Greywatch way of finding all the 'interesting' stuff in the universe. The craft moved forward to the planet in cloak and began subtle scans. The captain and her officers looked at the planet and the scanner findings. "My god," said the tactical officer, "This is fresh, captain. One fucking weapon did this!" There are signs of one contact area and nothing more." The captain was in awe, "Impossible, in all my years I've not seen a weapon capable of that. Begin scanning for energy signatures. We need to findwhoever is responsible for this attrocity." The tactical officer shook his head, "Ma'am, shouldn't we call this in? We don't have the power to stop whoever did this. We'll need some serious support." She nodded, "Good idea, put it throught to Prime now!"

Back at Greywatch rime, an awed Greywatch Council looked over what had been sent to them. Several of them had no idea what to do. Obviously something had to be done but something of that destructive capacity would have to be approach carefully.

At the chocolate planet, the fleets assembled. Admiral Vyse was preparing tactics.

"Form a Defensive cluster. We must ensure that weapon cannon hit any capitol ships"

"Yes Admiral."

"Don't forget us."

The Infinity Entered system, joining up with the cluster.

"Lord Gregory! It is good to see you!"

"Alex! I was so worried!"

"It's okay Bellena. I'm glad to have you at my side again. Ok all ships! We've got a few hours to prepare! Soon we shall be fighting a battle that will determine the future of The Imperial Navy! Each and every one of you already has my respect for making the right choice and joining me. Now let's make a stand... together."

The Imperial Fleets were soon joined by the entire 4th and 5th Fleets. Close behind them was most of the 1st fleet. As they exited hyperspace, they quickly tried to form up there defensive formations.

'This is Grand Admiral Martins of the Victory. As soon as the King Joins us we will be on our way. Standby for further instructions.'

While the tension built - as it always does on the eve of battle - some of the less experienced Captains (especially in the 1st fleet) test fired their weapons - just to be safe.

Lord Gregory test-fired the CMC, to the awe of the Mole fleet, sending a blinding flash of purple light into some nearby asteroids, tearing them in two with clean precision.

"All weapon systems operational. Shields at max, all crews accounted for. Well, except the one."

"Good. My main plan in this will be simple. Destroy the Eternum. If I know the Emperor, and I do, he will lead the charge in that vessel, and it's destruction will end his reign of terror. If all else fails I will board the Eternum and face him in single combat. He is incredibly big headed. He would not refuse the challenge."

'Impressive Lord Gregory.' came the reply

Shortly afterwards, the 6th Fleet arrived, with the Explorer 2 leading them.

'My King. The mission briefing is ready.'

'Excellant. Have you transmitted our secret comm channel to our allies'

'Just patching through now'

Seconds later, all the imperial Ships were given the secret comm code so they could link with the Mole secure transmissions. They immediately recieved the following

These are subject to change. Pay attention to new transmissions

Primary mission
- King Mole must complete mission
- The Eternum must be destroyed
- 3 of the 7 friendly command ships must survive until other goals complete

Secondary mission
- At least one other enemy command ship must be destroyed

She waited half an hour after her shots where fired before pushing herself into a small ditch, and crawling along it. The mud fro an earlier downpour clung to her clothes she was glad she had covered her face in a half mask when she eventually crawled out of the ditch to find it covered in thick mud, and debris. Then she stood and pulled the clothing of herself, the camo cloak and her armour pulled off in a few seconds, her gun packed away and hidden inside the hollow of a tree, her armour next, everything covered by the Camo cloak, so as to hide the entire package. Then she turned and brushed a few leaves out of her hair and made her way to the Palace gates.

Waving at a guard there she handed over papers, and pointed to one of the nearby affected guards. ‘Should he be like that?’ was all she said as she waited for the guard to wave her by. Assuming that occurred she had only to find the Emperor before he left. Walking through the plush halls of the palace she sought to avoid too much attention, whistling as she walked happy, an hour at most and she would be on her way home.

Bal now waked through the opulent palace as if it where an everyday occurrence she passed vases and other wonders that called to her, and she desperately wanted to take something for herself, but fought the urge, even if that small trinket would look great on her mantle piece, or that necklace there stunning around her wife’s neck. Somehow she managed not to fill her pockets by the time she reached the Emperor.

It was unlikely she’d catch him without guards but she waited till other military folks where gone likely catching him on the way to his transport, stepping into his path she tossed her hair back revealing the pointed ears of Kionashi, and the fact she was, very defiantly not human.

‘You would be the Emperor of this land right; I have an offer from some associate who have a personal issue with your rebellious Admiral. I cannot go into details as I know them not I can only give you the terms.’

((OOC to speed things up I’m going to write out the offer, and assume she doesn’t get shot out of hand;) More than willing to edit if requested))

‘After the initial reaction to her presence had passed she went on. ‘The Duke Berlian Of the Outcasts offers the services of his own fleet and those allied to him for this matter, a Hundred vessels, similar to the fifteen that took part in recent troubles. I think more than sufficient to be a pleasing boost to your cause yes? In return he asks a few things, firstly one hour from my leaving this place Three Transports will land, half an hour after they land you are to begin to fill them with treasure, not money but treasure, works of art, literature, gemstones and the like. Everything is to be originals no copies or reproductions. If the process of filling these transports is not started within the Half-hour offered they will leave, I realise this does not leave you much time… but you have an opulent palace here I am sure you can afford to lose some of these treasures to defeat this Gregory? How many have rallied to his cause already?’

(OOC: Yes I know, from Sonic the Hedgehog. I aquired it in a legitimate RP.)

"This is what I mean, wartime buildup's got the buggers jittery as a brooding duct crawler with us jumpin' straight into the nest..." Captain Arcturus Grimbjörn fretted as he keyed commands for the Hand That Feeds to heave to.

"That is evident, Captain. Now, open a channel for our reply." While Grimbjörn was captain of the unarmed Aletian sloop, Acanthus dal Aranglos was the ranking individual on the vessel; as Emissary of the Aranglos clan and their formidable mercenary assets, it was her responsibility to secure a deal and keep the rest of her fellow Aletians in line.

We will certainly submit to any precautions you feel necessary, as a gesture of our goodwill. We have powered down our propulsion systems and await inspection at your convenience.

Sloops such as the Hand That Feeds were one of the exceedingly few classes of Aletian interstellar vessels that weren't bristling with weaponry - in fact were not armed at all - which was a very good thing in situations just like these.

The Coquette hurled itself gracefully into Earth's gravity well like a falling star, on a seemingly suicidal plunge that actually brought it to its target with admirable accuracy. Better yet, the city dwellers got some nice midday fireworks as the sloop fell headlong through the atmosphere, slowing itself at the last second and touching gently down on the tarmac.

"Gee-Whiz, Dortmunder, Malachite, you're with me," Cambrian Dolosus called over the intercom as he rose from his creche and tugged on the trim black trenchcoat that served as a uniform. “Let’s go get this thing.” His companions, similarly attired, fell in one by one as the four humans descended the gangway into the Terran sunlight.

Bal shrugged a little and gave a strange gesture with her head as she looked at the gemstone and then, giggled. ‘Oh I wouldn’t go offering Kionashi anything that has a title that starts with the word chaos.’ Of all things in a serious negotiation she starts to giggle then laugh before her face turns serious again.

‘Yes well in all seriousness, while I am sure the Gem is as precious and expensive as you claim, I am afraid you misunderstand the point. Outcasts don’t care for Gems of Ultimate power or other such trinkets.’ She said.

‘No I guess you do need to understand the minds of the Corsairs, well as much as you can, need to understand the mind of we Outcasts. So I’ll relate a little tale, A man walked into a Garden party and sang a song, who knows as to the quality of the song, it does not matter here, suffice to say when it was over, an Outcast in attendance took a sword and drove it through the mans chest. When asked why she did so, the woman replied, ‘I don’t like lutes.’ The Corsairs don’t want wealth for a rational reason; they want it because it pleases them. It pleases them to have their ships filled with Objects of Art, and the like, a single Gemstone would not interest them.’

She shrugged, ‘There is somewhere else you could get the items from of course, Gregory was an Admiral in your fleet yes, high ranking with likely a great deal of wealth, seize his assets as a traitor to your people. Load the Transports with everything he held dear.’ A malicious grin split her face as she said this. ‘My employer would doubtless like that, and would make up the shortfall, if such should be present, himself.’

(OOC nothing against the gem itself but... well it is more about the art than the wealth)

Bal shook her head at the idea that one could sum the Outcasts up as vain but in the end it didn’t bother her, not really. ‘Your lucky, that I just want to get this over with and get home, yes you can count on the Corsairs aid, they will put into motion the plan they have drawn up. They leave you one choice as a favour to the one who pays, one of your rebellious colonies or the one they went to for aid, where do you want them to spring their little trap?’

‘Oooh I don’t think that was an option. We don’t want a big swirling battle where the enemy is ready for us. Oh no, anyone can charge at the foe screaming defiance at them. We don’t work that way, you just hired Corsairs, that means you hired people that strike where the enemy is weakest. He expects you to come right at him, so you don’t, you come at him sideways. He goes to someone else and gains their support, you make supporting him more than it’s worth. My Employers will do that for you, will make those who think supporting Gregory is a good idea, re-examine the cost.’

Turning she shrugged ‘I tell you want we’ll demonstrate what we mean, I’ll tell them to go for lets see Mud 2 sounds like a good target wouldn’t you agree?’ She didn’t stop to wait for confirmation just turned to leave. Bal didn’t even appear to be listening now as she wandered off her thoughts on other things, although she did somehow leave the Palace without being seen by too many people, and collect her stuff. Somewhere between doing all this she even managed to send the signal to her employers. Then she was gone a flight took her from the Imperial Navy’s lands and across the seas, where she booked another flight, and did some shopping.

When she got home to a small island in the middle of an ocean somewhere on the Chaotic Fractal Earth, well what happens next is not needed to be told suffice to say she was a lot happier.

The Transports on the other hand showed up, and do bear an interest for these events, in paying the Emperor had made sure someone was going to suffer.

Sloops such as the Hand That Feeds were one of the exceedingly few classes of Aletian interstellar vessels that weren't bristling with weaponry - in fact were not armed at all - which was a very good thing in situations just like these.

----------

The Triad drifted closer to the Hand that feeds, stopping just 500 metres from it. All weapons were armed and trained on any possible weak points on the HTF.

The Triad then launched a single hyper fighter equipped with advanced scanning equipment. After much evasive scanning, the Triad recieved the results.

---------

'Sir! Scans indicate the vessels is unarmed and poses no immediate threat to us'

'Hmm... very well. Open a channel.'

A communications channel was opened

'Attention! Vessels of a similar origin to yours are wanted for unprovoked attacks against some of our merchant vessels. Explain your purpose immediately!'

'Attention! Vessels of a similar origin to yours are wanted for unprovoked attacks against some of our merchant vessels. Explain your purpose immediately!'

I was not aware that such an attack had taken place. I know that there are multiple Aletian groups in this stellar vicinity, but if it really was an Aletian wolfpack responsible for the raid, then it was no one in the employ of Clan dal Aranglos. There is really nothing else I can say.

It was the truth, unadulterated for once. Seeing how small-scale and individually motivated the Aletian presence in the sector was (so far), word as to who was where doing what had yet to filter up the echelons of mercenary society to the movers and shakers such as Acanthus.

As for my own purpose being here, we have taken notice of the recent schism between Lord Gregory and the Emperor, and the impending war between you and the Empire. We wish to offer you the services of our mercenary fleets. As great a power as I am sure you are, the Empire will have summoned its own formidable allies to support its cause. For a fee, of course, the Aranglos clan will deploy its vast resources towards the destruction of those who would wipe you from the face of the universe. All we ask is a meeting with your superiors to make our pitch.

----------

Dolosus and his chums sat. "All we're really asking for," he began, "is any and all intelligence you've got about where Gregory is, who's he hangin' with, what we gotta get through to get him, et cetera." The bounty hunter clasped his hands on the table and leaned forward. "We know he's with the Moles, that's obvious. We're looking for particulars here, the kinds of juicy tidbits that'll make or break our operation. I promise you, gentlemen," and he stared every Imperial in the room in the eye, "give us what we need, and we will bring his Lordship before the Emperor in chains."

‘It has all been arranged my friends and soon you shall each have your share, it is always good to get paid for something we would have done for free is it not?’ The duke said all this to chuckles from the leaders of his assembled fleet, ‘The Mon-keigh gave no disagreement to the plan, well none worth listening too and so it is time.’ Despite saying this each of the assembled captains sat unmoving as they enjoyed a final drink then the meeting broke up.

Half an hour later each ship in the fleet signalled it was ready and they began to move. Along shifting passages, and through the maze of the Eldar that was the webway, and then out into real space. It had perhaps always been there hidden away in the depths of space, innocuous another asteroid, worthless in itself, dead to the uneducated eyes of ‘lesser’ species, but now it spat the fleet out into the outer edges of the system containing the world of Mud two.

More and more of the mammoth ships appeared and set a course for the world, fighters and bombers launching as they neared, and behind them mines where dropped to allow the fleet to leave if need be, in relative safety. As they approached a section of the fleet numbering fifteen vessels split off from the main fleet, taking up a course ‘below’ the main body another section ranged on ahead, to test the defences. No warning was given, no call for surrender, no terms offered, no reassurances of fair treatment. None could be given in truth, barring the unconditional surrender of the defenders.

This was only the start of the game as far as the Corsairs where concerned. Only one concern to the future of the game was evident as the fleet sought to block all outgoing transmissions from the world.

(Maybe jumping the gun a little in truth, but...)

The Mole Defenders were taken by surprise by the sudden appearence of this... 'battle fleet'. Howeve, luckily, they were prepared for a rapid response to an imperial attack. The Ships were able to scramble their fighters in time to mount a defense counter-attack.

The 2nd Fleet elements numbered only 1 interdictor, 6 MCDs and 10 frigates, but more ships were nearby. Also, the planet's defence platforms were ready and also launched more fighters

The Moles didn't even bother to give out a warning. They knew their enemy wanted them dead. A distress call was sent out, that was almost immediately suppressed by the jamming signal. They could only hope someonehad heard it...

The fleet sped forward now, more fighters spitting out with almost frightening regularity. But ahead of the fighters the Wolf packs roamed, in gangs of five Fifty of the sleek vessels prowled forwards, through space. Their targets where for now the same, the Frigates, where while likely the least powerful of the defending assets they where the most numerous, and so they would be taken out first. Each pack concentrated on a single Frigate, from light minutes away it began the first few shots from the overly large guns affixed to the front mere range finders, and probes. Unlikely to cause damage but they highlighted the prime targets and away they went.

Behind this force the main fleet came ever forwards, Fighters now shooting forwards in gangs of thirty, each one attaching itself as escorts to a Wolfpack, to keep the enemy’s own fighters away. Meanwhile behind it all the Cruisers, and Carriers, and other vessels slipped ever closer, soon they would be in range.

Holo-fields active a large portion of the incoming defensive fire missed, through no fault, of course, of those targeting, simply because that was how the Corsairs protected themselves, by avoiding being hit. Still no defence is perfect and a few shots got through, at the moment nothing overly damaging but it would build up swiftly. Those hit slowed maybe only by the tiniest of margins but in slowing they where exposing themselves to greater danger.

Back aboard his own vessel the Duke watched and noticed the incoming assault transports. In many ways, strangely, the sight pleased him, those that boarded where less likely to destroy at the first sign of borders themselves. Since they had an assumption that such tactics could potentially work. For now through it worried him, the Wolfpacks where the most exposed of his fleet, the first that would arrive and where the least able to protect themselves from boarders, a small crew and, during battle, much less energy given to life support, left the crews exposed.

Still he had a solution ‘Every third escorting fighter is to leave escort duties behind and engage the troop transports.’ With the command given the first wave of fighters peeled off, ten fighters per wolfpack meant fifty fighters now altered course towards the Troop transports.

Now the Wolfpacks where within effective engagement range they altered to attack patterns, splitting into sections each ship acting alone against the packs target vessel, some moving to attack from ‘below’, others from above, they moved almost as fighters in their manoeuvrability, they had too since the overall aim was to keep the gun pointing at the target after all, it was no good if it took too long to return for a second pass once they had hit after all.

Even as this happened the Corsairs revealed their next trick, although the weapons of the smaller ships had a reduced range, the larger vessels where well within range, had been for some time in fact, although that was something they would keep to themselves. Misdirection was a key part of the Corsairs way, hiding the full capabilities of his fleet would allow him to unleash it later as a surprise if things when wrong.

‘Open fire.’

Soon the largest vessels joined in the fighting, mammoth torpedoes shooting forth. Unlike most people’s concepts of such things, these where more like automated suicide fighters, containing their own point defences and Holofields. They where huge, easily the size of shuttles, with their own internal guidance systems. They had their targets. Or rather target, fifty ships targeted one vessel, it was one alone a class different from the other defenders and so it drew the Corsairs attention. Best not they felt wait to find out what it was meant for. Fifty capital ships opened fire on one indicator.

The Warhead attack was a complete surprise. The Interdictor and MCDs tried their best to intercept the warheads, but a crippling amount got through. Although not destroyed, the interdictor had no sheilds and multiple hull breaches. It limped towards the relative safety of the defence Platforms. The MCDs threw caution to the wind and charged forward, blasting the lead ships of the enemy formation...

The assualt transports were now ready. Unbeknown to the attackers, they had no intention of boarding. They began with an opening barrage of Advanced Torpedoes, targetting a single Cruiser. If it survived, they closed in to engage with Giga lasers. They watched as fighters draw closer, their turrets tracking there movements, ready to return fire...

Amongst the mole fighters there was a change of tactics. The Advanced Missile boats, apparantly ignored, changed targets. They aimed multiple advance torpedoe barrages at the carriers, staying out of range where possible. The Hyper fighters went to attack the nippy gunships. When close enough they would use their turbo lasers but for now they fired another volley of advanced concussion missiles

The Giga fighters used their speed and giga lasers against the nearest fighter. The Frigates Sheilds were still holding up against the attack from the gunships. Despite the speed and tactics of the gunships, the frigate's crew and weapons were ideal to repel this form of attack. With Giga Lasers able to shooy ships from any angle, and advance concussion missiles blasting it would be a close battle...

"It matters no longer Yarris. Once this battle is won we shall have proof to the universe that they cannot oppose us. Our citizens will obey us out of fear, and the universe will grovel at our feet!"

"You shall reign supreme, my Emperor."

Yarris began to walk off of the bridge, smiling to himself has he left.

"Fool... your power has blinded you, but not me... once victory is ours, I think the time has come for me to 'replace' you. This galaxy will be mine, not yours..."

When a Carrier or Cruiser was hit it fell back slightly behind the security offered by it’s brethren, Fifty ships of the Kionash all acting as one moving as one made targeting that region of space neigh on impossible an entire segment of space was filled with nothing but colour and static the wolfpacks on the other hand where not so fortunate. Operating alone against their targets they where open to attack they couldn’t support each other, and while fighters buzzed around them attempting to draw off the worst of the incoming barrage, they couldn’t be everywhere. It wasn’t long before two of the Corsair vessels broke off the attack fleeing back to the relative safety of the command elements of the fleet, as they did so, the Fifteen vessels that had moved below the main fleet, sped forward breaking formation, moving towards their wounded kin.

Soon it became apparent why as the two vessels began to break apart, slow at first but soon spreading the ships died, and small rescue pods could be made out.

With the death of the two ships the Corsairs seemed to stop for a second and then, unlike against the Imperial Navies fleet, they did not withdraw or turn back rather, everything changed. The fleets opened fire, adding not just Torpedoes to the mess but lances of energy spitting forth into the void of space, targeting the Missile craft of the Moleland defenders. Energy flashed across the stars smashing into shields, and occasionally hulls, it seemed almost as if the Corsairs where enraged at the loss of two of their vessels.

Energy flashed across the stars smashing into shields, and occasionally hulls, it seemed almost as if the Corsairs where enraged at the loss of two of their vessels.

The energy blast clipped many of the hyper and Giga fighters, however only the most damaged were actually destroyed. The torpedoes were to slow and clumsy to be anything more than a hazard. In all, the Hyper fighters were now number 85% of the total launched, with the Giga fighter operating at 95%.

The Battle as now a Dogfight - The hyper fighters picking on any of the gunships they could find whilst trying to shake off fighter escorts, meanwhile the Giga fighters attacking those escorts...

The Assualt transports now were in range of the crusiers. One was singled out, and was swarmed. It was like a hive of Hornets attacking a lion - The lion had enough power to destroy them all, but with so many it could be endlessly stung. The Advanced Missile Boats continued their long range torpedoe barrage, knowing that soon the effects would show...

The MCD continued there attack against the enemy motherships, with the Frigates Defending themselves as best they could

Suddenly, 5 new Frigates exited hyperspace behind the enemy formation. The newcomers immediately launched more fighters and moved towards the enemy capital ships.

The Corsairs had it seemed lucked out, in preparing for their withdrawal they had prepared for the arrival of reinforcements or at least this wave of them. Behind the Corsair fleet lay hundreds of Mines dropped as the fleet had advanced now, the mines suddenly had targets. Programmed simply to swarm any vessel not made of Wraithbone, the unique material used by the Eldar, they had five targets inside their engagement range. Each passed on the message to the others, and the swarm moved.

Coming to life from almost all angles upon the five new arrivals they sped forwards at almost impossible speeds. The Duke did not even pause to consider the new threats confident in the strength of his preparations. When I win through here, my actions in laying the field may well win me Shadow Lord status was the only thought he spared the Frigates.

In the meantime The Eldar had a dogfight to win, it was unknown the reaction speed of this particular race but the Kionash outmatched humans in such things, and it showed in their pilots. Ships pulled seemingly impossible turns, the Eldar craft where built around speed and mobility, their heaviest ships where built for such, their fighters… they ducked they weaved, they turned, diving upwards and downwards, left and right, turning at impossible moments.

Each of the Fighters carried as always four missiles, and now some of them opened fire, the void of space opening up in tiny explosions. Fighters died of course, no battle for such pilots is without loss but it only seemed to spur their comrades on. The Corsairs had been out in space for a long time, and they came from a race that lived in the void, in a massive craftworld that moved between stars. Eldar Pilots learnt their trade by skimming the edges of their home, hugging its massive form, sailing between its solar sails, and rare it was the pilot that crashed.

This was a game to the Corsairs in short, a game they where very good at. (OOC even if in truth the real game is not one I play:p)

The Wolfpacks on the other hand where soon facing the moment of choice, to continue the dance with the frigates or to pull back a while and let the dogfight play out, damage was building in a lot of the ships, already they had lost two of their number and it would not be long before they lost more.

For the Iradian star it was a maelstrom of carnage, as the enemy targeted it fully more and more shots got through, the crew returned fire as best they could, but eventually they could all sense it would die. This led to a change in priorities, the Infinity Matrix had to be preserved. At all costs. As with all Corsair ships it was a small one of course, who would entrust such to outcasts usually merely the souls of crew members awaiting transferral back to the Craftworld. Still it housed a few hundred of their dead.

The Duke was growing annoyed, and at last he snarled to one of his underlings. ‘Take us through the defenders.’ With that command the entire fleet sped forth, they would move past the ring of defenders and force an end to the battle. Ortillary tends to be a great persuader after all.

OOC: None at all ;)

The Assault transports had taken a pounding, but most still had much of their sheild energy intact. The Transports sensed blood, and they knew soon they would get it...

----------------

The reinforcements were surprised by the waiting mines, but the frigates and fighters opened fire, picking off most of the mines. However, inevitabley, some made it through causing much damage to the lead frigate. It was crippled and swung about to withdraw to the rear of the formation. The others could now proceed...

-----------

The Hyper fighters were outclassed by the corsair fighters, and were suffering hideous losses. Already now down 56% strength and falling. This, in turn, brought welcome relief to the gunships. The Giga fighters were fairing much better, and were only down to 83% strength.

The Missile boats unleashed there last advanced torpedoes and sped towards the enemy capital ships. The MCD still fired at their counterparts...

A number of Imperial vessels suddenly dropped out of hyperspace at Mud 2. Launching fighters, they immediatly began to pound the alien vessels whith everything they had.

"This is the 5th Arcadian defence fleet. I hope you don't mind us dropping in."

The defence fleet consisted of:

2 Juggernaught class heavy Battlecruisers
40 Helios class Recon cruisers
20 Darkstar light destroyers
(All data on these ships can be found in factbook)

Commander Drel had just delivered news to Lord Gregory.

"Is it true?"

"Yes Lord Gregory. Arcadia has declared loyalty to you. The Emperess herself has turned on her husband!"

"I'm not suprised, given the way he treated her. Still, this is good news."

"The Arcadian fleet has engaged the distracton at Mud 2. They should effectively ruin the Emperor's plans."

"Indeed, but I can't say i'm sure wether they were actually helping the Emperor. They may be using this for their own devices."

"Hmph. They don't call you a master tactitian for nothing."

"Never mind. We must still prepare for the attack. What is the status of the fighter bays?"

"They check out, all systems are green..."

-----------------------------------------------------------

The Emperor slammed his mechanical fist into the table.

"HOW DARE she betray me! My own wife!"

"I'm afraid it is true my Emperor. It was Emperess Teodora herself who declared Arcadia's breakaway from the Empire."

"Do you still have agents on Arcadia?"

"Of course my Emperor. Always."

"Have her killed. And have her head sent to me."

"Err... as you wish my Emperor."

Yarris bowed as he left the room.

"His mind has fallen into complete madness... but never mind. Having the Emperess out of the way will secure my hold on the throne..."

As their 'guests' entered the Explorer 2 they were subject to an intense security search. Once the crowd of Soldiers were content, one spoke.

'Greetings. Sorry for the high security, but Moleland can trust no one right now. Please follow me.'

"I completely understand," Acanthus said crisply, following the soldier. Sergeant went behind her, nostrils flared surreptitiously. By the Fanged God, these furry sentients looked and smelled fascinating.

Cambrian Dolosus grimaced uncomfortably. "Mmm... I'm not a big fan of battle, myself. Too noisy, too confused. But, if that's all you've got to give us, I s'pose we'll take it." He sighed and looked at the ceiling. "Good thing for you taking an unarmed ship into modern space combat is just the kind of arrogant crazy-shit thing I like to do for fun." He and his companions stood up to return to their ship. "If that's all, gents, then ring us when the kettle's boiling," he said with a wink.

OOC: You guys may or may not care, but I've totally cast Martin Clunes (http://www.hellomagazine.com/profiles/martinclunes/martinclunes-1b.jpg) as Cambrian. In my mind he's become a slightly nutty British bloke on the outside, masking a cold-blooded bounty hunter on the inside. XD

"Good to see we have an arrangement. You'll need to meet up with the fleet immediatly. Here are the co-ordinates. Good luck. You will recieve half payment now, half when the battle is won."

IC: After leading the visitors on march through the maze of corridors onboard the SCD, they arrived at a room. The commander typed in a password into a nearby panel, and the door opened.

In side there was a large table with 3 chairs, with 2 near the entrance. The commander gestured to the visitors to sit. As they took their seats, they noticed 2 commanders at the opposite side of the table and two more behind them.

After a brief wait, another Mole entered. He sat down opposite his guests.

The Corsairs where pushing forward now, and as they did so the Dukes ship started to fall silent, slowly less and less shots came from it’s rough region of space, it was unusual as, it seemed unlikely he had actually been hit, certainly not as much as would seem needed to have caused his ship to fall silent. The Wolfpacks started to fall back as well, back towards the rest of the fleet, and then.

‘I think this should be close enough, have we found a suitable target?’ The Corsair Duke said breaking the near silence on his bridge.
‘Hard to say, but yes, heat signatures and other clues would suggest this area’ The officer who spoke pointed to a floating 3D representation of the world as a small part it flashed up’ As meeting our needs, and of course actually facing us.’
‘Excellent then its time to send a message of our own.’

Greetings Mon-Keigh.

By now you might have guessed we want to pay a little visit to that world your guarding so well. My comrades and I, however, must admit to being on a bit of a schedule, we really want to get the job done before the main event starts. We hear that the Emperor of one of your little states, is about to attack, personally he struck me as a very unsubtle man, my guess is, he’ll go right for your capital. Ahh well, that’s rather beside the point, you may have noticed we moved ourselves a little closer to your world. Likely by now your wondering why?

As he said this he nodded to someone of camera and… his ship opened fire, not at the opposing fleet but at the planet they where defending massive beams of energy and entire salvos of Torpedoes hurtled out from his ship towards the planet.

If you’d care to watch my little display, I laid on a little show for you. In Thirty seconds my entire fleet will repeat this exercise on a different settlement, unless you all start to withdraw in that time. Thirty seconds after that… and so on. You get the picture right? So long boys.

'Hello, I am King Mole the 15th of Moleland. You wished to speak to me?' He certainly didn't look like a King...

"I am Acanthus dal Aranglos, Mercenary Emissary of Clan Aranglos Aletes," Acanthus replied with a nod, taking her seat and folding one graceful leg over the other. Sergeant took his seat as while, though less comfortably. The big Kzin didn't much like sitting still, and the necessity of squashing the instinct whispering "FOOD" was even more distracting.

"We of the Aletes have taken an interest this little war brewing between you and the Emperor," Acanthus was saying. "Doubtless you are a powerful state, all the more so for having Lord Gregory on your side. But the Empire is powerful as well, and it will draw powerful allies to its side to take part in your extermination. We have received the broadcast from the world Arcadia - we know how high the stakes are here, for everyone."

The Eldren paused and leaned back in her chair. "Here is what I offer, on behalf of my superiors - which I will now repeat for, I believe, the third time," she said with a smirk that quickly disappeared back into her previous neutral, confidet expression. "Simply put, the Mercenary Aranglos Clan wishes to contract with you. We wish to lend you our vast resources and military power to resist those that would gladly slaughter you, for the price that we ask, and hurt them so thoroughly that they will never dare to do such a thing again. Your servant said it best - Moleland can trust no one right now - and it is so very, very true. You should know," she said frankly, "that Aletians are not people bound by many ideals or morals, and there are more and more of us entering these regions every standard day. I would go so far as to say," she said even more seriously, "that we Aranglos are here to protect you from ourselves as much as anyone else, if you get my meaning. If a pirate wolfpack will gladly prey on your shipping for the sake of the treasure it bears, what might they do for 10 billion credits from the Emperor, hmm?"

The Resistance reacted first. It made a brave and noble sacrifice. It powered it's way into the path of the orbitial bombardment. Although not big enough to block all of it, only a tiny % made it pass to damage the planet below...

This attack resulted in a complete tactical repositioning of the Mole ships. The Capital ships tried their best to stand between the corsair Fleet and Mud 2.

Meanwhile, the fighters continued their plans. The Hyper fighters were down to just 35% power and Giga fighters still numbered about 72%. The Missile boats targetted a cruiser and launched a Heavy Spacebomb Slavo at a crusier, hoping to to destroy it before it could retreat.

The Assault Transports were beginning to suffer losses, but the fought on, cannon blazing at any target they could shoot.

"Good. But I have another assignment for you. Cloak your fleet and sneak into the enemy lines. Kill Gregory, and take command of his vessel. The Infinity is a fine ship, and I would hate to see it damaged. Bring it back to me."

((OOC oh it’ll do damage hope you don’t mind too much if it misses the fleet flagship through? Don’t want him dead this early on in the game))

With holofields active it was hard to pinpoint where exactly from the mass of ships the particular Void Stalker of the Duke was, still in such a mass of vessels, the Self sacrifice of a vessel was going to hit something, crashing into the form of the Cruiser Shaodwfox, The vessel soon started to collapse and groan before a massive explosion sent

Messages went back and forth as a few of the Captains and lesser officers began to doubt the entire scheme, in that moment all might have been lost for the Duke, his fleet was fracturing underneath his command. It was perhaps unfortunate then for the defenders that the Webway opened again, and a new fleet of thirty vessels emerged. Then again it might have been fortunate.

Things where about to change.

Humans, you seem to have a little bit of a problem. May I introduce myself; I am the Princess Ellyion of the Corsairs.

Now then I have a solution to this whole mess, I will take command of the allied force gathered here, you will all withdraw. We will raid this world, and take much wealth but in the end, the world itself, and it’s peoples will be returned to your government unharmed, assuming none offer resistance to our takeover.

I think you’ll find this a far more generous offer than you would have received from the Duke; he was going to use your people as hostages… This way you can get back in time to help your kin.

Oh and in case you hadn’t realised this is a one time offer, reject it, and I’ll happily join the Duke in his little plans. As much as I hate trading with our fallen kin, it is profitable.

Unknown to the defenders perhaps Ellyion had no intention of trading with the Dark Eldar, at least not slaves, she was more likely to buy such poor souls from the Dark Eldar than provide them such. Although the taking of slaves was within her.

Scum, Scum did he just call me scum… Ellyion bristled with rage. ‘That ignorant little Mon-Keigh worm…’

There was a reason Ellyion was a Princess a reason that had much to do with her past actions, and the status had given her a lot of pull, one of the benefits had been getting her hands on rather different weapons. For example a limited production weapon, designed for a specific conflict, it had a few drawbacks, a slower rate of fire, and a small chance of malfunctioning. The trade off was… it was a lot more powerful. It was powerful enough to crack a moon apart.

She turned her fleet to face those that had called her scum and opened fire at the largest vessel in that fleet. Pouring the full might of her own command vessel’s firepower on it.

Mon-Keigh, You call me scum, well then…

OOC: This is getting rather fun... :)

The vessel performed evasive manuvers, taking heavy damage, but avoiding destruction.

"Weapons are out! Fires on multiple decks! We can't..."

The final set of blows ripped through the vessel, destroying it in a magnificent explosion. Almost at once by instinct the fleet regrouped, forming into a box shape opening fire once more - all focusing on once ship at a time, to ensure no chance of survival.

---------------------------------------------------------

Lord Gregory went to visit his wife one last time before battle was joined. Bellena was sitting in her quaters, distraught. He embraced her warmly.

"My dear, are you going to be able to fight?"

"It's not me i'm worried about... it's you. Almost every piece of scum in the Galaxy wants you dead, we're traitors to our own people, and you defend a nation because of a friend! You're putting yourself in too much danger, and i'm sick of worrying about you!

Gregory smiled warmly.

"Bellena... this is not just about a friend, or about glory. I'm standing up for what I believe in. I'm standing against a tyrant. For the good of all. To be honest, if I do die, so long as I save the Galaxy It'll be worth it."

Bellena look at him with a stern face.

"No! You can't! Promise me you won't die!"

"That's a promise I cannot keep my sweet. I have to do this. There is no other choice. You don't have to be here. Take a shuttle. Go to Arcadia and wait for all this to end."

"No... I will stand by my husband. Besides, someone has to make sure you don't lose another arm."

"Must you keep bringing that up?"

The two kissed, but then Gregory's commlink beeped.

"What is it?"

"Commander Drel here sir. I think you'd better get back here... We have recieved some... disturbing news."

---------------------------------------------------

As the Emperor's fleet prepared to leave, a small shuttle exited hyperspace, docking with the Eternum. A single man came out, carrying a box. Without being challenged, he made his way to the Emperor's chambers.

"What is it?"

"The package you requested sir."

"Good. Put it down and leave."

The man put the package on the desk and at once returned to his shuttle. The Emperor opened it to find... The head of his wife, Teodora.

"Ah Yarris. You have yet to fail me."

Cheerfully, the Emperor placed her head in a case he had prepared on his desk.

Ellyion watched almost impassively as the defenders returned fire around her she watched as one of her vessels was singled out, one in every fifty shots actually hit and it was taking it’s toil. ‘They can’t last out much longer, they’ve lost most of the weapons and their engines are failing… The woman nodded ‘Order them back into the web, spread the word, if the damage grows too great a ship is to withdraw before its…’ Before she could finish the ship exploded and she snarled ‘Before that happens!’

Turning to the man beside her she curled up on her seat looking almost upset ‘Why are they fighting, don’t they understand this is the best hope for them? They where going to lose… and they where going to suffer, I could have prevented that.’ She almost sobbed as she laid there, a strange change from only a few moments ago but that was Outcasts, sometimes they could be fickle.

Snarling again suddenly she leaped up. ‘Isha’s Tears I forgot the Dukes plan…’ She was too late, as the fleet that had been here before her arrival, not receiving counter orders opened fire again as ordered by the Duke. All of them turning their wrath on the settlement that had escaped it last time.

Ellyion turned to her crew and laughed, her emotions shifting again ‘Kill them, I grow bored of them.’ Again her ship opened fire, targeting a second vessel, and she at last remembered to rescind the orders of the main fleet. Now it was the Corsairs turn to target one vessel at a time until it was destroyed, and her ships… She was confident could destroy the enemies a lot faster than they could hers. Especially as she had one more trick up her sleeve. ‘Take us into the middle of their fleet, lets see how trigger happy they are when a miss hits their friends.’

Trusting to the Holo-fields the fleet shot forwards and into the midst of the Imperial Navys own fleet, each capital ship moved around the enemy fleet passing by the foes own ships so as, when the Holo-fields did their job and caused a foe to miss they ran a good chance of hitting friends.

(I've had this tactic pulled on me before.)

"Enagage the Greogry Manuver!"

At once the Fleet scattered, flying in pairs, each targeting a vessel. It was now time for broadsiding fire. The ships began to get VERY close to the enemy vessels, unleasing blast after blast until the ports were glowing. Several fighters overcharged their engines, before ejecting and sending their fighters straight into enemy vessels, each detonating with a flash of Plasma. The remaining fighters focused on cover.

Lord Gregory arrived on the bridge, to the stern face of Commander Drel.

"Teodora is dead?"

"Yes my Lord. Arcadia is stable though. Lord Draco has assumed command, and he remains your ally."

"The Emperor has gone mad. His lust for power is out of control."

"What I wonder is why Admiral Yarris still follows him."

"Sometimes my friend, loyalty can be worse than madness..."

The problem with getting close to enemy vessels is they have to let you do so, in STL speeds Eldar ships had most races outclassed, the Necrontyr had them beat, but that was close, The Eldar had two things going for them speed and manoeuvrability. They where expensive ships, all in all in this system was likely half the corsairs in Yvresse’s influence, and Corsairs made up a third almost of the capital ships in the Yvresse’s very expensive navy. To top all this off Ellyion, and her fleet was the best of the Yvressian Corsairs. She wasn’t a fool, and fools didn’t follow her.

All this is a long-winded way to say, they had quality. The Corsairs didn’t let the enemy get close enough to hit them this way, because to do such would be to surrender their best defence. Enemy fighters attempting to ram the Eldar had a problem as well, finding the Eldar ships amongst their holo-fields was hard, and the Fighters had the same chance to hit as a missile. Ellyion had another way to discourage such tactics however.

Her fighters launched and targeted not the enemy fighters but the ejecting pilots. To eject from your fighter was to die, that became the rule she imposed on the battle. To attempt to ram an enemy ship was to sign up for death. Kamikaze looked good on paper, but in practice it failed throughout human history for a reason. She would show why.

That is not to say they had it all their own way, but this was almost the way they preferred to do battle, up close, where a ships ability to manoeuvre for the best position would decide everything. Her ships answered back with volleys of their own.

(Casualities will be posted in my next post I felt reacting was better than posting losses at this point))

Sadly, it was time for the other Mole Class Destroyer, the Defiance to sacrifice itself. Again, it flew into the attack's path, intercept most of the fire but it could not survive the attack.

However, the Frigates had now regrouped and pressed forward, supported by the remaining Assault Transports and the pretty much unscathed Advanced missile boat bombers. The Transports fired more advanced torpedoes, with the boats firing more heavy space bombs.

The surviving Hyper fighters and giga fighters had time to regroup and continued to attack their targets, or any large starship if it was nearer - The battle would be decided shortly - who would win?

As the Emperor's fleet prepared to leave, a small shuttle exited hyperspace, docking with the Eternum. A single man came out, carrying a box. Without being challenged, he made his way to the Emperor's chambers.

"What is it?"

"The package you requested sir."

"Good. Put it down and leave."

The man put the package on the desk and at once returned to his shuttle. The Emperor opened it to find... The head of his wife, Teodora.

"Ah Yarris. You have yet to fail me."

Cheerfully, the Emperor placed her head in a case he had prepared on his desk.

The Mole defence fleet, in orbit around the chocolate planet

The 'acting Captain' of the Explorer 2 examined the reports from the Comm sats and probes. Clearly, the imperials were up to something. A large increase in communication traffic had been detected, possibly preparing to begin the attack.

He opened an channel to all ships.

'Alert! This is the Explorer 2. The Imperials are preparing to attack. Standby to enter hyperspace. No delays are to be accepted.'

The King stood up and walked to the observation window and looked out.

Just as I thought. These creatures are scum. I liked to eject them painfully from existence. And yet...

He turned from the window and walked back to his seat.

'I find your offer interests me greatly. Tell me, what can you provide for me and at what sort of cost?'

"First and foremost, we are prepared to deploy three dreadnoughts on short notice. Each of these vessels possesses the weaponry, facilities and accompanying fleets to subjugate a reasonably well-defended planetary system. They will be integrated into your chain of command and deployed however and wherever you wish. Depending on how the war plays out, we will have additional forces to deploy if necessary. Secondly," and this Acanthus judged might be of greater value, "we will use our influence to... discourage any more low-lifes from harming your shipping while we are under contract with you." She made a mental note to have Aranglos agents look into who had struck the moles' shipping. If they were found, she would make sure they rued their decision - not out of any desire to appease the moles, but because the political fallout of that incident was interfering with her negotiations.

"Our asking price is 700,000 universal credits per day, which will cover all of our expenses in terms of manpower, equipment and ammunition. Also, we request salvage rights to enemy vessels destroyed or captured, and enemy equipment captured. This subsidy is included in the asking price. If this does not suit you, by all means make a counter-offer. We Aletians love a good haggle."

The King nodded his head.

'Your offer is indeed reasonable however, I have a different idea. Upon our victory, we shall we pay you what you deserve. You may capture any ship you feel able to. Do we have a deal?'

The fleet was more manuverable than the enemy had suspected. Clearly they had never gone into battle against the Helios class before. Flying almost like a fighter, they streaked here and there, unleashing burst after burst. Surviving escape pods were quickly tractored and taken out of harms way. But alas several brave pilots perished screaming as they were blasted into space.

"These aren't regular pirates... They are as advanced as we."

"All ships, prepare for war!" Yelled the Emperor, as the fleet gathered to jump to hyperspace.

"The fleet reports ready my Emperor. All ships are accounted for."

"Good Yarris. Let us depart. All ships, Jump to Hyperspace! Head for Moleland space!"

There were a number of flashes as the fleet jumped. The battle was about to begin...

OOC: Oh wow, it's been a while. Thanks for bringing this back, TIN, I had forgotten about it.

Acanthus stared into the space above the mole king's head. "Yes..." she said pensively after a few moments. "Yes, I believe we do. We look forward to serving your cause." She rose and bowed before the king, her smile showing a hint of savage triumph that she couldn't quite suppress.

"Our dreadnoughts will arrive within an hour," she promised. "I and my crew will remain until our forces arrive, if that is acceptable."

With that, the commanders directed the visitors back to their ship

After meeting the Mercenaries, the King returned to the bridge of the Explorer 2

'Commander, report in.'

'Our border Custom Platforms report a large Imperial fleet is on the move.'

'Destination?'

'They are uncertain - but they should beach the perimeter of Mole Space within the next 3 hours.'

'Any word from the Mud system?

'No si... I mean your majesty'

The King smiled at the slip of the tongue. 'Very well. Open a channel to the ships in this sector.'

A channel was opened

'Attention all vessels. The Imperial fleet is on the move. Prepare your Hyperdrive engines - battle will soon be upon us!'

Lord Gregory's fleet gathered to prepare for battle.

"All ships report ready for combat status my Lord. We await your instructions."

Gregory was looking into reports as he looked up.

"Good. We shall move when we recieve the command from the Mole fleet."

"Yes my Lord."

"Well... it's time to lay the cards on the table."
