International Hostages Taken in Military Coup (rp/open)

A military coup is currently underway in Tropicalo. (See: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=13873389#post13873389)

The forces of General Estarra, Commander of the Tropicalo military and leader of the coup have began to march on the capitol city and are on the border between the suburban neighborhoods and the city center. Loyalist forces are largely dug in around the Presidential Palace. President Quintana has issued a statement requesting international assistance, doubting the loyalists can hold out for very long. General Estarra has issued a similar statement warning foreign states to stay out of what is an internal affair. He claims that he is the champion of the people and is removing a corrupt government. He states that fair elections will take place as soon as the old regime is removed.

However, General Estarra is not above taking an insurance policy against international involvment.

Tropicalo is a popular tourist destination that caters to the world's wealthy, and eco-tourists. The General's troops have just stormed La Grand Tropican Hotel and has "detained" several hostages that include prominant businessmen, celebrities, politicians, and other assorted VIPS from a variety of nations, including yours. The General has made it clear that the "guests" from your nation will be released as soon as the current regime is overturned and shall remain safe so long as your nation does not interfere with the coup.

Within minutes of rebel soldiers storming La Grand Tropican Hotel guests were calling and texting loved ones, the authorities and their own consulates for help. Etoile Arcture's high commission had been among those fielding calls from their own frightened citizens when abruptly the lines went dead as the rebels begun confiscating cellphones.

What information that had been gathered during the brief window was sent up the chain of command of the Diplomatic Directorate, and eventually briefed to the General Secretariat itself. Negotiation was the only real choice available to them - or at least, that was the public position. In secret, all options including force still remained on the table. A majority decision was enough to activate the Special Forces. A battalion from the Rapid Reaction Forces was mobilised to immediately fly to Tropicalo to establish a base of operations and rehearse for a possible rescue mission. At the same, more troops and equipment were brought to a higher state of readiness in case a more robust response or, heaven forbid, a retaliatory strike became necessary.

Not only the military had received its marching orders either. An experienced team of negotiators from the Diplomatic Directorate were soon flying to Tropicalo. These were to be the point men and women for Etoile Arcture's efforts to free her own, and all foreign hostages. Proceeding them came a flurry of sometimes stark diplomatic communiqués...

Subject: Negotiations

The government of the Unitary Technocracy of Etoile Arcture is saddened and alarmed at the unfolding political unrest in Tropicalo. We urge all sides as a matter of urgency to begin talks with the aim of finding a lasting political solution and avoid any further loss of life

Our sole concern at this time is the safe being of ours and other nations citizens, especially the safety and well being of guests in La Grand Tropican Hotel. We therefore offer our good offices to allow all sides to come together to negotiate the return of foreign tourists to their respective governments. We await your positive response.

While careful to avoid using the word hostage and crisis in the same communiqué, never mind sentence, as sent to both parties, the Top Secret coded communication sent to the officer of President Quintana was far more blunt and direct.

I express my disappointment to the Tropicalian government at the capture and holding hostage of ours and other nations citizens at La Grand Tropican Hotel. My government holds President Quintana fully responsible for their safety and warns of dire consequences for your government should any foreign citizens come to harm.

In response we are despatching a diplomatic team to facilitate negotiations with General Estarra. The Technocracy also reserves a full right to self defence, and had additionally despatched Special Forces and other assets to be held on standby should negotiations fail. We warn the Tropicalian government that any foolhardy or precipitous action by you prior to their arrival, and any actions during this crisis that place the lives of ours and other nations citizens in danger, will in turn bring dire consequences. We expect full cooperation in this matter and will liase with your officials as soon as our assets arrive in your country.

Our apologies for the delay. Much of the government's communication network has been blocked by the rebels. Obviously, our government is not responsible for Gen. Estarra's actions. I can send a detachment of loyalist troops to attempt to liberate the hotel if that is what you desire. We are outnumbered and outgunned at present. Most of what we have left are the Presidential Guard and loyalist civilians who have taken up arms. Unfortunately, dissenting citizens have also taken up arms and an all out melee has begun in much of the urban areas. I do not know how much longer we can hold out here in the palace bunker. Do you reccomend I accept exile and evacuate? We may be able to escape by sea as we do not believe Estarra has control of the Navy yet. Please advise.

The military coup has now gained control of Tropicalo's fledgling Air Force. While mostly consisting of refurbished jets purchased from larger nations, it is still a strategic boon for the coup. General Estarra has order the jets loaded and to bomb strategic communications target and fortifications around the Presidential Palace. One squadron is also ordered to achieve air superiority and engage any non-revolutionary aircraft, regardless if it is civilian or military.

On the ground, the General's troops have begun pushing into the City Center and are close enough to the Presidential Palace complex to begin shelling.

Mr. James didn't remember why he was in Tropicalo. He assistant knew, but she had gone to get orange juice, quite a while ago actually, and had yet to return. As Mr. James sat on the bed of his hotel room, conducting a video conference with his Vice Presidents, someone stormed through his hotel room door. The Vice Presidents watched as Mr. James was dragged away by troops. They were all quite shocked. And his last words rang in their ears. "If you don't do something, your all going to be fired!"

Jimmy James Industries World Headquarters, the Beatus

The James Complex, located in one of the Beatus's largest, and most desolate deserts, served as the world headquarters for Jimmy James Industries. What was visible from the surface was only a fraction of the entire facility, yet what was visible from the surface was visible from space. Deep within the lower levels of the facility, in executive meeting room, stockholders, and the senior VPs of Jimmy James Industries were meeting, to discuss the kidnapping of the companies CEO, Jimmy James. They were all worried. For some reason, almost all of Jimmy James' ideas made money, with out him, the company was nothing, and they all knew that. However, he was also the only one of them with any real backbone, so they decided to attempt to work this out with words instead of weapons.

General Robert Estarra smiled as he read the courier message from Jimmy James Industries. With that amount of money, not only would the rebellion be fully funded, but once in power he could really develop the nation into a regional power! It was time for Tropicalo to go from being a sunny resort to a nation to be reckoned with!

He ordered an adjutant to draft his reply:

Dear Mr. Wentworth,

Mr. James has been detained in protective custody by the military for his own safety. As you know, we Tropicalan's pride ourselves on our hospitality, even during a small internal dispute such as this. Please wire half of the money to our Swiss Bank account #355175431. This will enable us to make arrangments for a private charter plane escorted by our Air Force. After this Mr. James is safely out of the war zone, we request that you deposit the remainder into our account.

The screen showed stock footage from the nation of Tropicalo as the announcer explained the situation to the masses. A free-phone helpline number scrolled along the bottom of the screen as news of the event unfolded. Across the room, sat on opposite sides of a chess board, sat the Foreign Secretary and the Secretary of State for Defence.

Isaac Charlton had dealt with many hostage crises during his time on this earth, and knew this one couldn't come at a worse time. "How many of our people are in the hotel?"

"We're still trying to establish it exactly, but we've had dozens of calls on the help line from concerned friends and relatives." Josh Dixon surveyed his limited forces. So far the battle had taken its toll. He had less than half his original pieces remaining on the board.

"Does the Prime Minister know?"

"A message has been sent to the LNS Stockmoor, we're awaiting a response at the moment."

"Options?" Isaac ponderously moved a rook along the edge of the board.

"Diplomacy, although negotiations might be frowned upon by the public. It might look like we're making a deal with the devil. We could wait it out, see if they stick to their word. Or we can use force to extract our people. This is risky, as presently our force projection powers are limited by the diplomatic tour and refit of KNS Camborough." A knight sprang almost from nowhere and took Isaac's rook, putting a grin on Josh's face, wish quickly vanished as he continued "If we did deploy a force, we'd have no fixed-wing support."

"I'll start laying the ground works for negotiations, and see how the Prime Minister wants to play it. If you could evaluate options for forced removal of our people."

"Will do." The end-game was reached. Josh knew he was making a futile attempt to protect his king, and hoped that this wasn't a vision of things to come.

Our nation has recently been informed of an armed insurrection being led by forces loyal to yourself against the elected government. We have also learned that citizens of Salzland, among other nations, are being held captive by your personnel. This situation is intolerable.

We hereby demand the following:

1.) The immediate release of all foreign hostages into the custody of an independent international organization which will return them to their countries of origin with all possible speed.

2.) A personal pledge of safe conduct, from yourself, permitting all foreign nationals to leave without incident.

3.) An immediate, indefinite and if need be unilateral cease-fire on your behalf for the purpose of deploying an international peace-keeping force to Tropicalo.

If said conditions are not met within 24 hours, a state of war will exist between your forces and The Armed Republic of Salzland and unrestricted military strikes will commence against you and your troops. If any hostages are harmed before this time limit expires it will be interpreted as a rejection of our ultimatum, resulting in a state of war between us and immediate unrestricted military strikes against you and your forces.

We will not negotiate with terrorists or hostage-takers, under any circumstances.

Etoile Arcture
28-07-2008, 23:16
The Rapid Reaction Forces of Etoile Arcture had a variety of options on how to insert into hostile territory, and among their most favoured was the
CV-44 Hawk quad tiltrotor. These ungainly aircraft, with their twin sets of wings that were tipped at each end by a thrashing proprotor, were each the size of a C-130 Hercules, but able take off and land like a helicopter. These made them ideal for flying below enemy radar and landing at an unprepared landing zone, and they carried long refuelling probes allowing them stage by tanker anywhere in the world at short notice.

The military option was to be the last throw of the dice, but if that throw was ever to be made it would be instant and devastating. Special Forces were to infiltrate the island, helped by the rudimentary state of Tropicalos radar systems. The tiltrotors would carry In the troops, their equipment and dune buggy-like fast attack vehicles and humvee-like M96 light multipurpose vehicles. The Defence Directorate had even found a truck typical of that seen on Tropicalos roads that would be a little less conspicuous than the high tech arsenal they were bringing along. The truck had been in almost factory condition, and had in the hour before loading into its tiltrotor had taken something of a heating from several special forces operators to "accurise" it to a more indigenous Tropicalan appearance.

Etoile Arcture had plenty of trigger men if it became necessary to the push big red button called military solution, but it also had technocrats prepared to do the dirty work if that was necessary. Even as the tiltrotors infiltrated the island and established a forward staging area waiting for the go or abort order, the technocrats at the Diplomatic Directorate in Etoile Arcture, and Tropicalan high commission were performing the equally important and tricky act of obfuscating true intentions.

The only fly in the ointment might not in fact be the warring Tropicalons, but the reaction of some of the foreign governments. Intercepted communications indicated some heat messages were being exchanged with the rebels, threats even. The situation was far too precarious. Etoile Arcture and other nations undoubtedly had the capacity to wipe out the rebels in short order, but rescuing the hostages alive from a large building such as the Tropican, without knowing where the hostages were or the defenders, was hard enough when you had the element of surprise. It was now a lot harder now threats had been made...

The HMS Liga, flagship of the Makaarian 23rd Fleet and a Makaar-class supercarrier of the Royal Navy, had steamed towards Tropicalo as per its orders from the start of the coup, keeping in line with the Makaarian policy to respond as quickly as possible to global incidents, no matter how little they might concern the large nation with the over-inflated military budget. Now, it was this tiny, little-known nation which would be the next Makaarian target.

The coup was making the news in Makaar, perhaps more than the normal coup stories might, because of the way that the story actually concerned Makaarian citizens. Leah Burton, daughter of Makaarian casino tycoon and businessman Zach Burton, along with three of her friends, had been holidaying in the nation at the time of the coup. All four were now being held at gunpoint, and Zach Burton was offering millions of sovereigns for his daughter's return; meanwhile, the citizens of Makaar were calling for the protection of their own and the head of General Estarra.

Several dozen UH-60 Blackhawks flew low over the terrain to avoid detection by the Tropicalo radar network. Inside the helicopters were Oseato's elite airborne soldiers, members of the 13th Airborne Division. This deployment was to mark the first time the division had seen combat since Oseato's inception. Suddenly Tropicalo's capital city came into view, and with it the Presidential Palace, their target.

The Blackhawks flared and touched down disgorging nearly 530 troopers of 1st Battalion, 13th Division. They quickly set up their fields of fire and hunkered down in order to secure a LZ for the follow on forces.

"Velazquez - here is what I want you to do. Release half of the "guests" we hold from each nation as a sign of good will. I have nationalized our commercial airline. El Presidente and Supreme Commander (he likes many titles) Estarra phoned the Diplomatic Ministry. He inquired which nations may be sympathetic to his militarist/facist party's ideology. Perhaps he may find some allies for the new government after all...

The foreign minister began making phone calls and wires to nations that may be sympathetic to General Estarra's cause, and that may benefit from something "special" he had found.

The response hadn't been all he'd hoped for, and Samuel Lawson was in no mood to play games, being less than twenty-four hours from the first diplomatic stop on his tour.

"I could do without all this right now." He leaned over and pressed the intercom "I need you to get me all staff involved with Gopher here within the hour, and get an update from Josh ASAP." The intercom buzzed as the button was released, then clicked twice, an indication that the message had been received and was being acted on.

Three Type 42 destroyers sat in dock, taking on supplies. Not far from them, a pair of Type 23 frigates and an "Ocean" class landing platform were being made ready. The crews hadn't been fully briefed as to their next deployment, but several seamen had overheard the name of a small, far away nation. Tropicalo. Some vaguely remembered seeing the nation in the news. Was it something to do with a revolution?

With our Revolutional Government now in place, we have no need to detain your nationals any longer. Half of them are bording commercial flights to a neutral country that will be escorted by our air force. Unfortunately, we only have so many aircraft and we have many foreigners to evacuate. Therefore, half of your nationals will remain as our guests for the night until alternative arrangements can be made. They will be well taken care of. I have personally invited several to stay at the Presidential Palace.

Mr. Jimmy James, a wealthy industrialist, has acquired one whole aircraft for himself and will be departing shortly. That means even fewer people can leave immediately.

The Revolutionary Government of People's Republic of Tropicalo looks forward to resolving this situation as soon as possible.

Thirteen C-17 Globemasters, escorted by 25 F-22 Raptor fighters and 8 F-4 "Wild Weasel" Air-defense Suppresion aircraft took off from Antioch Air Force Base, These would land an Armored division World of conflict style, advancing en-masse to retake the capitol

Naval Forces consisted of:

2 Nimitz-class Carriers

4 Ticonderoga Missile Cruisers

8 Oliver Hazard Perry Frigates

2 Sacramento-class Supply Ships (Everyone seems to overlook the fact that carriers run out of jet fuel daily)

2 Tarawa Helicopter Assault ships

2 San Antonio Class Landing ship, Dock(s)

5 Newport Class Landing Ship, Tanks.

This Carried an entire marine division, consisting of:

157 AAVP 7A1 Amphibious assault vehicles.

105 M1, Leopard 2A6, or Challenger Tanks (they're mixed together, they have basically the same stats in any case, and unified intra-vehicle info systems)

233 Tactical Trucks

325 HWWMV's

Around 1500 to 2000 Men.

50 Chaparral SAM Vehicles

98 Vulcan AA Vehicles.

The marine division also gets 15-20 Harriers, along with around 40 CH-46 helicopters and 10 CH-53 Sea Stallions. They Also get 60 AH-1Z's.

I'll post the armored division Specifications after the marine division has taken the military airport.

At 0935, they snuck into the airport, One team moved to secure the tower, while the other moved to kill the communications at various buildings.

Meanwhile, Offshore, the fleet entered the territorial waters of Tropicalo. It was Unknown if hostiles had chemical or biological weapons, and they had therefore issued full MOPP protection against Non-nuclear WMD warfare.

"Only for a short time, Load the sprayer and prepare for 3 hours of laughing as they frantically try to escape."

The Commonwealth had a considerable presence in the region near Tropicalo, as some of Tolvan's largest overseas holdings were located in the San Espada Islands. Fortunately, there had been few Tolvanic citizens present on the island when the coup took place and many of those got out before the rebels seized the hotel district. Virtually all of those that were left in Tropicalo had taken refuge in the Tolvanic Embassy, where they were under the protection of the embassy's Marine Guards and Diplomatic Security Service agents, as well as a few locals hired to supply rent-a-cop duties. At present there was 162 Tolvanic nationals holed up on the embassy's twelce acre grounds and they were safe for now. However, the Commonwealth wasn't to content to simply watch the country descend into civil war, it take additional steps to ensure the safety of its citizens.

TO: General Estarra

It has come to my attention that a number of Tolvanic nationals have taken refuge in our embassy in your nation. While they have not come to harm thus far my government has decided that leaving the embassy in place is untenable at the present time. As a result the Commonwealth is deploying elements of the Carribean Command to facilitate the security and evacuation of our embassy. Your assistance in this matter is not required and interference with out operations will not be looked upon favourably.

The Grestonian Embassy in Tropicalo had been evacuated after Sir Parlmen was kidnapped. Two Colonial Guards, their red berrets faced backwards and their AK-104's aimed level, stood as sentries in front of the embassy door. On the barral of their guns was a red piece of fabric, signifying the state of war with Greston and the embassy home. The other 25 guards stood outside of the Presidential Palace, their weapons facing the building and General Estarra's Republic Guard. Colonel Jacob Bradenburg was standing off behind the armoured Acura LX's from the embassy that the soldiers had parked to stand cover behind.

The Colonel was in charge of twenty-four Colonial Guards, red berrets. Each was armed with the standard, an AK-104 and two Glock 17's. Colonel Bradenburg was armed more so than the rest, he had his standards as well as a Colt on his hip as well as the third Glock he held in his right hand. His AK-104 was slung across his back and his other three side arms were where they were supposed to be.

He barked out orders to his men and they positioned themselves in a half circle in the front of the Presidential Palace. Then Colonel Bradenburg started barking at the revolutionists.

"Make way for our men. Inside this premisis is Sir Charles Parlmen. He is being held captive against his will, if he is not released we will be forced to storm the building and extract him"

Their guns were trained and the Colonel waited for an answer.

Tensions lower following release of Oseaton
Tropicalo City - The Oseaton Navy is beginning its withdrawal today following the release of it's citizens held by the rebel government in Tropicalo. A source inside the Ministry of Defense says release of the second half of the "guests" was secured following talks with the Empire of Ralkovia and representatives of the coup leader, General Estarra.

Elements of the 13th Airborne Division are still in-country but are consolidating their position in preparation for their withdrawal from Topicalo. So far there have been no documented clashes between 13th Airborne and the rebel forces and Defense Minister Erwin Morrell hopes that trend will continue. He urges the Topicalo forces to give 13th Airborne adequate time to make arrangements for their exit. Morrell went as far as to state that if the airborne forces were able to have access to one of the many airports in country, their exit would be made much quicker.

Hopefully tensions will continue to lower in the coming days so that casualties can be avoided by both sides. Battlegroup Clarke will withdrawal outside Topicalo territorial waters, but will continue to monitor the situation from International Waters until the 13th Airborne Division is able to return home.

She didn't know what to do with her so her first instinct was to send it over to Colonel Bradenburg.

Colonel Brandeburg gleefully listened to the report and then he stood back up. He no longer kept his AK-104 pointed in a safe direction but took aim at the Republic Guard outside the Presidential Palace.

Colonel Jacob Bradenburg kept his gun trained as he spoke, "Your Ralkovians said that we should de-escalate this crisis, he can have his de-escalation once we are done pumping bullets into the chest of General Estarra."

Colonel Bradenburg stopped firing and lifted his right hand. He flung it up swiftly and put it into a 90 degree angle. His men understood what it meant but still the colonel needed to make a racous yell to inform the rest.

"Halt!"

His mustache played on his lips and he he relaxed, leaving the tensed state he was in while shooting out the Tropicalons. A few soldiers on the end released a few more bullets and Colonel Bradenburg re-informed his men of the orders.

"Cease firing! Civilians in the open!"

Bradenburg stood his full height, a towering six feet and four inches. He manuevered around the Acura's and went up to the Ralkovian Embassy Staff. "Sir Parlmen will be retrieved by my men. That mad man came into office and it is my job to confront that."

Colonel Bradenburg who was still not satisfied whipped up his Glock and shot out two bullets into the Ralkovians head. Then he continued on and picked up the Tropicalon Guard by his collar and bashed the man's head against a nearby car window. Once the man was dead he used him as a human sheild and twirled him over his head. He then took the dead body and threw it at a Ralkovian soldier.

He took advantage of the split seconds that the man was surpised and pumped five rounds of the AK-104 into the soldier. Then Bradenburg pushed the deceased soldier down faster and shot aimlessly in the direction of the remaining enemy soldiers.

Colonel Bradenburg's rampage was ceased as he flew to the floor and dust engulfed him. His left arm became stiff as a streak of pain shot up from his shoulder and to his fingers. He was in relative pain due to the fall. He was swept off his feet and fell from his chest level into the torn up gravel. Where his soldiers were stationed he heard one of the cars get dented and then a couple of painful yelps. Colonel Bradenburg jumped to his feet and looked at the position of the rest of the men. Some of them were frantic others were opening fire at an area above Bradenburg's head. He scanned the length of the Grestonian half circle and saw extreme amounts of blood in two different spots. One area was where a dead man was laying across the head of the car, his berret ripped into pieces but a bullet that intruded the top of his head.

Bradenburg, thinking quickly called for his men to run across the gap and under the the door way porch. The men rushed across and were then almost directly below the snipers. The lumbering, brown doors were still closed. Bradenburg and his men then pushed it down and funneled into the hallways. They dispersed and three different groups took different routes.

One of the groups, Bradenburg's group, went straight fowards towards the President Palace's Office, the area where "El Presidente" Sumpreme Commander Robert Estarra was.

The Armed Republic of Cascade States will send troops and ships / planes
to assist in bringing peace back to this nation.
We do not yet know if or how many of our people were on vacation there,
however we will be more than happy to assist the world community.

OOC: That for a capital building? Most capital buildings open up to a large corridor, in the corridor on each side is a staircase, in the middle is a hallway. I try to show you this way

Level One

|Office|
| Hallway |
Stair case | Hallway | Stair case
|Door|

Level Two

| Stair case|
Top of stair case | Stairwell |Top of stair case

That is basically the layout. One group goes straight down the hallway, the other two take one stair case.

(OOC: Sorry I was away for a bit. Although we announced we would release the "guests," we haven't actually done so. Suffice to say though, that we have released some of them. Others are being held in the Presidential Palace. Still others at the hotel and other places.)

Gen. Estarra laughed maniacly as he looked out the window of the Presidential Office at the troops of the various nations engaging each other. "Dance for me. Dance!"

"Presidente, hostile troops have entered the building!" Colonel Velazquez.

"What?!" Estarra yelled. "How does a ****ing Embassay guard detachment get past an infantry division?!" The Colonel shrugged.

The General sent out some of his most loyal troops from the office and positioned them around the 4th floor landing to reign bullets and/or grenades upon hostile soldiers coming up the staircase. VIPs from the hostile nations were gathered in the Presidential Office as collateral.

"Bring me a helicopter and gas up a DC-10. Also, let's add to this chaos. Arm the civilians!"

"Roger, El Presidente!"

Due to the Greston aggression against the presidential palace your people unfortunately cannot be released. They can be released but they would most likely be killed by Greston forces who have killed unarmed Ralkovian medics and embassy workers and 6 of the soldiers guarding them. We would not want your guests to be killed in the crossfire, that is why Ralkovia would ask you to tell Greston to please cease his hostilities, he is killing unarmed workers and Ralkovian diplomats trying to solve the matter without the need for killing.

Unfortunately, men are dying because some soldiers have the patience of an overly aggressive gorilla and can't wait for their guest to be released, so they kill everyone in sight.

The room was brightly lit, with a ornate mahogany table set in the centre. Around the table were seated six men and women, each of whom was here at the request of the Foreign Secretary who chaired the meeting.

Isaac sat at the head of the oblong table, his grim demeanour was reflected in the faces around the room. He knew things were going downhill overseas, and he had to do something soon or risk losing public support. "It appears that the situation in Tropicalo has deteriorated further. There is now a full-scale international shooting war underway within the country which is hampering efforts by aid agencies to get foreign citizens evacuated."

A low murmur flooded the room until a middle-aged woman spoke up, posing the question on most of the nations mind, "How many people do we have in the country? I know exacts are difficult to come across, but we must have some idea."

"Our best guess, between two- and five-thousand country-wide, covering all ages and social classes." Isaac paused for a moment, thinking about this. It wasn't just one ground of people this affected, it was nation wide, "Many who were outside of the capital have already been reported as returning early by immigration control. Going off there figures, and the response to our help-line, it's fair to estimate there are still some five-hundred civilian unaccounted for."

"So we're going to bang heads together?"

"It's a little too hot for that." Josh Dixon answered. As Secretary of State for Defence, this was right up his alley. "We have limited naval capacity right now. is still undergoing here upgrade program and whilst I've put getting her back in action a high priority, I can't give a time-frame. What I do have is a small flotilla of vessels prepared to sail within the hour. It's not a lot, but it should suffice to get our people out. So long as we don't fire on any other nations, we should be fine."

"Should?" Isaac raised an eyebrow at the world. He didn't like 'should', to him it meant someone hadn't thought things through.

Josh nodded, "A couple of the participants are trigger happy. Greston for one, Ralkovia for two. They seem to be getting a little too ready to use force. If we go in quick, and get out just as quick, it should be fine."

"Make it happen, Josh, and I don't need to tell you how important it is this doesn't go tits up."

Tell your men to stand down. Your nations influentials are being released. Your men have attacked and killed unarmed Ralkovian medics, unarmed embassy workers, and unarmed civilians. They have killed Ralkovian soldiers sent to protect the medics, embassy workers, and civilians as well. Ralkovia cannot stand around and watch as a carefully constructed negotiation for a peaceful resolution to this crisis goes up in smoke by a few Grestonian soldiers with no patience. Ralkovia does not want to use its military to resolve this issue but if Greston believes that killing everyone to retrieve one person is there official course of action, Ralkovia will have to act with the full force of justice behind it. Ralkovia is not one to make threats against larger nations, especially ones with a larger military force, but Ralkovia will make a stand to protect its people.

Ralkovia believes that the current course of action should be for your soldiers to surrender immediately. We will allow Greston custody of both its ambassador and its soldiers after capture. Your men will be brought to the nearest Greston naval ship and we hope you will courtmartial some of your soldiers for the murder of unarmed Ralkovian civilians and diplomatic workers. Ralkovia asks Greston to take a more peaceful course.

Ralkovian forces though tired, exhausted, and homesick were heading back from another major conflict in North Mejona. It was a Ralkovian Allied Protectorate State that had been invaded by its larger brother country South Mejona. Ralkovian Armed Forces had triumphed over the 900,000 South Mejona soldiers. It had been hard won but won none the less. Ralkovian forces had lost 80,000 troops out of the original 700,000, but it was a victory. It was a tremendous victory, it had seized 108,706 sq mi of oil rich and valuable farmland from the desert country of South Mejona it a counterattack, it had also assimilated 8 million civilians along with the capital.

South Mejona was broken down to only 30,000 sq mi. The land was mostly desert and steppe. It had only a population of probably 15 million now. Ralkovia had completely overrun and taken the territory giving the farmland to North Mejona and keeping part of the oil richs for itself.

Those soldiers were now on the way back to Ralkovia but Tropicalo was a new field of conflict and Ralkovian troops would be stationed their for the time being. The fleet was not huge but was rather large. A quarter of the soldiers would be deployed to the island while the fleet took on supplies it would also meet up with the Ralkovian six fleet.

Though it may look like an increase in armed forces on land and sea it absolutely not. If the prisoners are not released, the Yanbanian 5th fleet will open fire on your main port. The Yanbanian 101st Airborne is also heading in. We will engage if our demands are not met within the 48 hour time period. Declarations of war have been signed by the President of Yanbania and will become official if the prisoners have not been released. In addition, the President has, for this specific event and this event only, repealed the 5th Amendment of Yanbania's Bill of Rights which states that "Any Civilians taken prisoner through war are considered normal prisoners and are not to be put into POW camps". This means any Tropicalo citizens we capture upon your non-complience will be questioned, and if need, then put in POW camps. Remember, Supreme Commander, you have 48 hours.

Colonel Bradenburg and his men were thoroughly confused. The embassy was constantly letting them in on updates and the radio lines were constantly in use. But all that the colonel and his men knew was that they had just killed tons of people and were stuck in the Presidential Palace, an impossible mansion. They were caught unable to navigate themselves through it so they met back up in main entrance hall. The highly trained soldiers stood with their backs up against the large wooden doors to the outside. The men raised their guns and aimed at the staircases and the hallway. Colonel Bradenburg stepped foward with his gun level and screamed out a racous bark that echoed throughout the palace.

"Bring us Sir Charles Parlment, now! I want him alive and in Grestonian Custody immediately else the rest of this capital building will be shot up! If you wish to negotiate, come here!"

The men kept their cool but they were scared to see who would come, they killed an entire Tropicalon regiment already as well as innocent Ralkovians so the two sides were bound to have some bad blood.

Colonel Jacob Bradenburg patted his chest and his hands came upon four clips for his AK-104 as well as his second Glock 17 sidearm; all of which was strapped to his thick kevlar bulletproof vest. He was praying that the little vest could withstand a few bullets, because he was bound to run into much more than just a few. He noticed how low on the supplies to his AK-104, but he knew one thing; he wasn't leaving until every single bullet in the gun and its clips were empty.

Bradenburg waited until the first person appear and tensed.

Bradenburg slowly slipped the window shade open so he could peak out of it. He had the barrel of his AK-104 push it out of the way then he turned so he could see. Nearly twenty feet ahead of the front steps of the building was Ralkovian soldiers. Brandenburg flew back to where he was and faced his men. He slowly started to panic but came up with an idea. He rushed to the rest of his men and made them circle up around him.

"Flash bangs! Hand me your flash bangs." He started collecting a few flash bang grenades then made two of the other soldiers follow him to the window. He qued one soldier to bust open the window with the butt of his gun and he quickly followed his orders.

Two soldiers on the other side of the door did the same. Bradenburg raised his gun with one hand while he flipped the pin off one of the grenades with his other. He waited three seconds then flung the grenade out the window.

He squinted as he heard the explosion then he shoved the barrel of the gun through the open window and opened fire. He emptied the magazine then backed off as the next guy moved in to start firing. Colonel Bradenburg reloaded then took another flash bang and thrust it outside. He started screaming commands to his crew.

"You there, do as I do! You guys watch the door," Two soldiers at the other window started doing Bradenburg's technique. Then, with Bradenburg at the head, three of the soldiers stood in front of the door with their guns raised. They waited on Bradenburg to just open it.

Colonel Bradenburg heard the nostalgic humming of the approaching helicopter in the background and he immediately knew he is position; he was screwed. He heard a massive amount of shoes pressing down on hard wood from the corridor next to the top of the staircase and he knew men were coming to flush them out. Having little time to react he started, once again, barking orders in his hoarse voice.

"Take down those scum bags! Eddie, get a tripper on those stairs, ASAP!"

He pointed his soldiers around as they scrammbled around planting explosives on the stair steps and on the banister as well as the floor after getting off the stair steps. Bradenburg had one of the indoor plants smashed on the floor and then scattered around where the guards would have to go as well.

Then the men started bracing themselves for a massive fire fight. They were taking up places so that they would be covered while the two parties were shot out.

Colonel Bradenburg flipped a table and got behind it with two soldiers next to him, Sgt. Peter Bailey and Sgt. William Marinosa. Other than Bradenburg they were the two highest ranking soldiers out of the 25.

The three of them started laying out flashbangs and an inventory of weapons of choice to use as their were to be soon rushed.

"Let those little fuckers come!"

The colonel tightened his grip on his gun and waited for the Tropicalons to come.

CTS Milltown
Off the Tropicalon Coast

It had only taken the CH-206As a little over two hours to evac the embassy and return to the Milltown. The original plan had been to leave a small skeleton staff to run the embassy but in light of the growing violence between Ralkovian and Grestonian troops, the decision to evacuate the embassy entirely was made. After destroying or removing any sensitive materials the embassy was locked up tight and completely shuttered.

Once the refugees were safely aboard the Milltown and her two escorts withdrew from the area.

Landing, San Espada Islands
Puerto Diego Naval Station

The bulk of the Tolvanic Navy's Caribean Squadron, forward based at Puerto Diego Naval Station, was putting to sea. At the moment the Squadron consisted of twenty-four ships, twenty of which were actual combat vessels of some form. While this was not an overly large force by any means it was nevertheless quite capable of protecting the Commonwealth's interests in the region.

For now the ships would do nothing other than patrol the area and keep an eye on the situation in Tropicalo. The Commonwealth's interests were not served by continued instability in a nation so close to its territory, even an overseas territory, and the large military build ups by several other nations was a cause for concern.

Diplomatic Directorate - Official Communiqué

From: Dr. Michiko Flax, Director General, Diplomatic Directorate of the Unitary Technocracy of Etoile Arcture
To: President Robert Estarra, Republic of Tropicalo, Commander of Ralkovian forces in Tropicalo
Classification: Restricted, Eyes Only
Subject: Evacuations

The Unitary Technocracy of Etoile Arcture remains concerned for the safe-being of its and other nations citizens remaining in Tropicalo. I urge the Tropicalan and Ralkovian governments to honour the promise made by President Estarra and expedite the transfer of foreign nationals back to the custody of their own respective nations.

I am aware of and condemn fully the precipitous and reckless actions that have been taken by some members of the Grestonian security forces in your country. These actions jeopardise the safety of all our citizens. As such, the Unitary Technocracy offers to provide military aircraft, diplomatic vehicles and force protection at the main international airport to allow the safe and speedy evacuation of all remaining visitors.

An agreement to allow this evacuation to take place will be viewed very favourably by my government and would form the basis for going forward towards normalising relations between our two nations.

-----

If this latest message was the velvet glove, then the iron fist concealed inside were the gathering forces of the Etoile Arcture military. The 477 Special Operations Group, or SOG, had already established a forward operating base now called Tropicala One, or TONE, in a remote part of the island. And in the last few hours Task Force Delphine had taken station in international waters just off the Tropicalan coast. This included the EAS Manummission, an amphibious assault ship with a full infantry battalion and 40 MV-22C Opsrey tiltrotors embarked, and the firepower of Carrier Strike Group 11 lead by the supercarrier EAS Delphine and its 90 strong air wing. A destroyer group of two cruisers and three destroyers and two attack submarines completed the task force. For now they would watch and wait patiently for their next orders to arrive - whatever they may be.

The barricades were split apart from the hail of bullets, the furios Tropicalo Guards already took out three of the men, leaving the rest to fend for them selves.

"Scum bags!"

Bradenburg yelled with rage as he emptied another clip out into the Tropicalons. His partners proceeded to do the same and in a few seconds the entire Grand Foyer was full of spraying bullets and the hulking masses and tattered, dead bodies.

"Let those bastards have it! Let them know what us Grestonian's can do," the colonel screamed with an air of disgust.

As the words left his mouth they played on his lips before leaving and echoeing throughout halls. Once the commands cleared out only two noises were audable; the gun firing and the massing angered crowd outside.

Then one more sound entered the scene, the explosives started to trigger off. The massive amounts and explosives planted would easily tear through the enemy men. After a few rounds of going off Bradenburg jumped up to see what carnage await after the bombs did their job.

Bradenburg sensed victory but didn't care as the door directly behind him was blown wide open in a ball of fire. The blast threw him off his balance but he quickly staggered back to his feet.

Bradenburg raised his gun and stared ahead of him; through the fiery doorway was a massive crowd, a crowd of disturbing proportions, all armed to the teeth and screaming at the top of their lungs, "Viva El Presidente!" towards helicopters above.

"Fuckers! Peasant bastards! Back you asswiping civilians! Back away," Bradenburg spat out towards the crowd. The started to have different ideas and was more concerned with looting then fight so the soldier took less care.

But Bradenburg looked closer and saw the crowd tearing apart one of the bodies of the men killed by the snipers. He mutter to him self and whipped out his second Glock 17. He had already emptied one Glock and was on to his second, all he had left was his assualt rifle and his Colt 45.

He pointed the pistol straight ahead, aimed at the massed crowd. He started to shake as the words slid out of his mouth, "Die, mother, fuckers."

With each word one bullet was shot. After the third round left he started just shooting insanely, quickly emptying the clip, and started shooting nothing. He unloaded and placed another magazine in; he quickly emptied that with a bloodcurling roar. Once it was empty a second time he just flung the gun away and whipped out his 45. He fired until he couldn't anymore than screamed to his.

"Get the fuck out of here! Now!"

Ralkovian soldiers threw Kolokol grenades (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolokol-1) into the Foyer. In 3 seconds most of the crowd and anyone in the Foyer would be knocked out. The gas quickly covered the entire foyer, anyone not wearing a full hazmat suit with gas masks and oxygen tanks would be unconcious for 6 hours. The gas could enter through the skin or through breathing it in.

The soldiers quickly took cover outside the presidential palace. 2 Hazmat soldiers waited behind the safety of a broken car as they finished checking their equipment for any leaks or cuts.

Three little bottle type grenades rolled into the foyer, flying past Bradenburg's bloodstained boots. He quickly recongnized the grenades for Kolokol grenades, an opiate-derived incapacitating agent, a derivative of the drug fentanyl. Bradenburg thought of his odds as the area around him grew blurry and seemed to dance. His bolstering build and heavy breathing seemed to shrink and slide out of him. In the background he heard large thumps, like bodies falling to floor without any interference; but the sound came to him as screaming hissing noises that felt like his ears bleeding. He blinked a few times as he shot two more bullets from his 45 and collapsed to the ground, unconcious.

Ralkovian Hazmat troops waited 4 minutes before going in. They quickly disarmed the crowd before heading to the Greston troops and pulling them out one at a time. It took almost an hour to do so. They took care of the men putting bandages, anti-biotics, splints, and stitches on broken bones, open cuts, and other wounds. The soldiers watched in disgust as the men were healed by the medics.

The Greston troops were brought to the sanctity of the Ralkovian Embassy. Each man was checked carefully for any weapons or metal. They were undressed and given some sheets as covering. Their mouths were also checked for any cyanide pills or poisons.
A man with a Metal-detector(you know the ones at the airport, when you get taken to the special line) checked their bodies for any metals as well.

Each Greston soldier was chained down by handcuffs to the feet and legs making it impossible to try and escape let alone get up. They were kept in separate rooms and a Ralkovian guard with a pistol or Ak watched them carefully.

"Glad you could wake up, We were all waiting for you and your men." A voice from behind Bradenburg said. The women walked around the colonels bed. She wore instead of a normal rank, a patch with a skull with its mouth open and blood red lines.

Every soldier in the world knew what that patch meant, it was of the infamous Skull Guard. They were the interrogation branch of the death guard. They were some of the most feared interrogators alive. Mercy did not exist in their dictionaries. They would drive men to insanity and back, from life to death and back to life until they got what they desired.

The Skull Guard women stopped in front of Bradenburg before stooping over and giving him a long deep kiss. She had already begun and he probably didn't even know it. For now the 2/32 was the only unit tapped for deployment to the region, but several other units were on alert should more forces be needed.

Message to All parties Involved in Tropicalo

Dear Sir,

I have been instructed by government to convey our dismay at your deployment of large numbers of military personnel to Tropicalo. The situation in that country and indeed the entire region is precarious at best and it is our opinion to committing forces directly will only serve to exacerbate the situation and lead to further bloodshed. As the Commonwealth has withdrawn its presence from the nation of Tropicalo entirely we have no interest the conflict unfolding there. However, the Commonwealth has considerable interests in the region and will not allow instability to spread to our holdings. As a result we are deploying additional forces as we feel necessary to ensure the security of our interests. These forces are not meant for any offensive purpose but will act to ensure Tolvanic lives of property is protected.

We understand your need for protection and will not take the increase of forces as hostile or consider it an enemy in any way. Ralkovia hopes that the Commonwealth, will understand that Ralkovia is merely trying to bring stability and cooperation between all parties as well. Unfortunately this has cost many innocent Ralkovian lives. We hope that the Commonwealth will not use its increased forces in any hostile actions against Ralkovia or Tropicalo. In an outlying suburb of the capital city a beaten up truck was winding down almost deserted streets. Most Tropicalans had rushed into the city centre or the presidential palace where riots had erupted in the wake of the revolution. Nothing might have marked out the truck from any of the other beat up trucks and cars you might see on Tropicalan streets. Except for the handheld digital radio the passenger was carrying. He tapped the transmit button, emitting two pairs of break squelches. At the signal the doors to Etoile Arcture's High Commission to Tropicalo swung open, admitting the truck into the courtyard before swing closed once again.

Waiting inside was the consular staff and their bodyguards. More accustomed to travelling in the luxury of their diplomatic Acura sedans and SUVs, were more than a little surprised at their latest mode of transport, but none would be complaining that they were leaving. In the streets outside trigger men had disguised themselves as Tropicalans, VP90 submachine guns and compact Franchi PA3 shotguns concealed beneath their clothes to overwatch the exfiltration. The doors swung open and the men jumped into the back of the truck or rode the fenders as they drove out the city with their precious cargo. Just a few minutes away from rendezvousing with a Hawk quad tiltrotor waiting just outside the city limits to fly them to the EAS Manummission wiating off the coast.

This was not the only special forces operation going on. Forward base TONE had been abandoned and the remainder of 477 SOG had flown direct to the main international airport. The aircraft converted from horizontal to vertical flight mode and made rolling landings on the tarmac, the downwash of the four proprotors of each tiltrotor enough to dissuade anyone with far from virtuous thoughts from approaching the aircraft. As soon as the pilots cut power to their engines fast attack vehicles and LUMP trucks gunned down the rear ramp doors and fanned out to form a defensive perimeter, their grenade launchers and machine guns training outwards.

Stepping off one of the LUMPS trucks Colonel Brassey, commanding the 477th, strode forward in his Multicam uniform and armour chassis to survey the perimeter. He could see the Tolvan transports unloading, but there was no sign of the hostages, guests of the republic, or whatever it was the diplomats were calling it. "Comms, patch me into the Ralkovian radio net," he ordered, having only to wait a few sections before a thumbs up. "This is Etoile Arcture Evac One at the international airport calling Ralkovian army headquarters. Requesting instructions to begin transfer of our civilians, over." he transmitted.

It hadn't taken word of a Communist revolt in Tropicalo to reach Brayton and the Tolvanic government. After a brief debate the decision was made to deploy Tolvanic troops to assist the forces of General Estarra and his international allies in quashing the revolt before it spread very far. The Commonwealth typically wouldn't concern itself in the internal affairs of another nation, but Tropicalo was very close to the San Espada Islands and a Communist Tropicalo was a threat to Tolvanic interests in the region.

The forces tapped for the intial phases of the operation were limited, after all the rebellion was still in its nascent stage and decisive force now could crush it before it spread. The bulk of Battlegroup Rapier was the 12th Infantry Brigade (Airmobile), part of the 4th Airmobile Division. In addition the 14th Marine Expeditionary Unit (built around 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment) and elements of the 27th Armoured Brigade were gearing up to deploy.

Due to the proximity of Tropicalo to the San Espada Islands the operation would have the benefit of air cover from the 33rd Expeditionary Wing (Provisional). The ground forces would also have air cover from carrier Cormonant and the amphibous assault ship Milltown, plus gunfire support from their escorts.

Message to General Estarra and All Nations with Military Forces in Tropicalo

As you may know, a group of Communist revolutionaries has launched an open revolt against the Estarra government. While the Commonwealth has thus far remained neutral in this conflict, we will not allow the emergence of a Communist state in such close proximity to the San Espada Islands. As a result we are deploying military forces to take immediate action to halt this rebellion. We will coordinate with your forces as necessary, however Tolvanic troops will not submit to foreign command at this time. Also, be aware that our troops will defend themselves if threatened.

The truck carrying Etoile Arcture's diplomats appeared to raise no suspicions during its short journey to the pickup zone containing a Hawk tiltrotor. When the tarpaulin covering the back was drawn back and the diplomats saw sunlight again, none even tried to disguise their relief upon seeing their 200 million dollar ride home waiting in a clearing.

The special forces soldiers had them all loaded in short order and the aircraft took off in a maelstrom of kicked up dirt and flying leaves with only the now abandoned truck to stand sole witness. The flight to the EAS Manumission lasted only twenty minutes from there on, most if it flown at only 60 feet, and halfway they were met by two F/A-38 Sentinel strike fighters of the EAS Delphine air wing.

Meanwhile, at the main airfield the second part of the evacuation was about to take place.
