SENATUS POPULESQE HIBERNIUS
To: Leaders of the World
Lying at Europa's northwest edge lies the emerald isle of Hibernia. Home to Gaelic tribes before it fell to the Romans in 81 AD, Hibernia is now an Italo-Irish remmenant of the Roman Empire.
We are a Republic based on the Roman model, with our capital at Brosniacum (Limerick). Sufferage is universal for Citizens at 16 years of age, and military service becomes compulsory for the same at age 20.
Our people are 30% Italic, 50% Celtic, and 20% mixed. Gaelic is the main language of the people, though Latin and Ibernacci, which is a creole of Latin and Hibernian Gaelic, are the languages of the Roman populace, and the ones used in government, education, liturgy, and literature. Ninety-two percent of the population is Roman Catholic, with the remainder being Celtic Christians from Scotland, Wales and the Lesser Islands that have immigrated, Liberal Christians, or Greek Orthodox.
We know that half the leaders that are reading this are thinking, "That's all nice, but are they capitalist or communist?". The answer is that we are indeed capitalists. Some socialistic policies such as healthcare and working benefits have been enacted, but the market remains free. We are fiercely nationalist, and despise the World Assembly. Our nationalism does not mar our imperial heritage, however, and we will gladly set up colonies elsewhere in the world to further our economic prosperity.
We meet the world with a half-open door. Our capital is open for embassies, our ports are open for trade, and our diplomats are open for visits. However, cultural imperialism will be met with an iron fist, and immigration is strictly controlled.
I did mention trade, did I not? We have much to offer. Information technology and chemicals make up a large portion of our industrial export earnings. We can provide cutting-edge products and services in robotics, software, pharmaceuticals, research, and biotechnology. Zinc, stone, natural gas, lead, and copper are mined here, as abundantly as potatoes and cattle are raised.
In closing, I open the Republic of Hibernia to embassies, diplomacy, and trade, and hope that this shall benefit the Republic and all nations who meet her with friendship.
