This is the OOC Thread for Hurricane Season 2008, and it includes a FAQ to tell you a little bit about what happens in this RP.

Hurricane Season 2008 FAQ's:

How do you come up with a forecast?
I use a d20 system that I created, using mainly percentile rolls to determine the possibility of development, intensification, direction the storm will travel, and the speed at which it travels.

Can I have a copy of the d20 system used?
Just shoot me a telegram and I will send you the information. I will also take advice and ideas on how to fine tune the system.

I don't want a hurricane/typhoon to hit my country!
Then do not participate. Tropical Cyclones don't know which nations don't want to get hit in real life, and in this RP, with a d20 system in place, there are millions of possibilities of how strong and which direction the cyclone goes.

Will you be using latitude and longitude to track the storms?
It is beneficial if you know your cities latitude and longitude, but it is not required. Maps, however, are very beneficial.

Are you saying I need a map?
No. I am making a map of part of North America, Central America and the Caribbean that will be the Atlantic Ocean Hurricane Season map. If you'd like a spot on the map, let me know which nation you want, and I will make it happen.

Got the map of the areas of North and Central America that will be used. A Ocean map of the North Atlantic is currently being made to better assist in the "tracking" of Hurricanes in the North Atlantic.

Do you want me to make a map of my region? It will be pretty crude because I'm a horrible artist but I will do it if you need me too.

The Zinairian Weather Institute can do satellite tracking on the hurricanes provided you give us the data we need.

I will be attempting to make a map soon. After my athetic attempt at a cargo jet for Falkasia, I know I'm not very good. I think I may join. *puts on thinking cap*

If you are located on the map already provided, then just let me know where and I will draw it in. If you are located in another portion of the World, then you may create the map if you so choose to, or I can do it.

Just let me know what is up.

Also, so that there is no confusion, an ocean includes any seas, gulfs, bays, or other major bodies of water connected to it. So, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea are part of the North Atlantic Basin. The China Sea and the Sea of Japan would be part of the Western North Pacific. The Bay of Bengal and the Persian Gulf would be part of the Indian Ocean. It avoids confusion, and conflicting forecasts.

You can, however, choose to "jointly" monitor the ocean with your fellow WMA Tropical Cyclone Forecast Center. Your WMATCFC would have to be contacted for that purpose.

I know some people will not be happy, but the idea here is to keep it simple. WMATCFC's will all be sent a copy of the d20 system used for forecasting Tropical Cyclones.

Understand that in the Western North Pacific Ocean, they are not called Hurricanes, they are called Typhoons. In the Indian Ocean they are simpy called Cyclones.

Each ocean has a list of names that it uses, indepently from the other oceans. Each WMATCFC is required to generate these names. The names should reflect the various influences around them. Like in the North Atlantic how there are some Latin names, French names, German names. You should create 6 lists of names, to be used in rotation, alternating between male and female names. So, if the first name is Amy, the second name should be a B name and a male name (i.e. Benjamin).

You can have fun with this, but organizing this is much more difficult than I thought, so bear with me while I get it set right.

I can see why it is difficult to organize. I'm in the very southern tip of Africa.
