Six months ago today, Mikaux received some news no woman wants to here: She had breast cancer. Despite being so young she was going to die. Of course she could have treatment but refused. She told no one, not her advisers not even her own daughter. But after a recent checkup she found her life span had already reduced to nothing. Mikaux was going to die before the month was out, it was now or never.

"Subaru."

"What is it mother?"

"Sit honey. I have something to say, this isn't easy at all. Honey, I'm dying. I've had Breast Cancer for sometime and I-"

"Why, why didn't you tell me?!"

"I didn't want you to live through agony every day. I wanted you to enjoy my time left with me."

"Mother!" Subaru began to cry. "Mother, please..."

"Sorry honey. I'm going. It's too late."

"Didn't you treat? Didn't you, didn't you...Didn't you fight?"

"I refused treatment because I wanted to go with dignity. I didn't want to pop pills and sit under an X-Ray and do what ever else. I just wanted to go. Subaru, Subaru, look at me sweetie. Now that I'm going, you will be Queen of this country. You will be the ruler form now on. Last of the Akoowans you are, my only daughter I love you so much. Find a wonderful man, have a baby girl of your own. I always dreamed of it for you. Be a strong ruler as I was."

"Mama, I'm scared, I'm not ready to lose you yet! I-I worry about you now and forever."

"Honey, all my life you've told me about God. I don't know if it's true or not. I hope to find out. If I burn than I burn."

"I-I, I. I've prayed you would accept God mama, please accept."

"We'll see."

And they sat and they watched the Sun set on Mikaux's final day.

Parliament's High Dutchess, Marina was in bed with her partner Dutch. The phone rang woking her up.

"Yes, this is Marina. Oh my God, you're kidding."

"Marina?"

"Oh my, is Subaru all right, how is she taking it? I see, okay, thank you. The Queen passed away sometime last night."

"She what?!"

"We better get down to Parliament."

"I'll call up Lieutenant Admiral Morioka and tell her to prepare for the funeral service."

Aqua Anuiens were already going about their daily business. But buzz was flooding the streets when the Daily Announcements by the Queen had not aired at it's usual schedule. It was stormy so what was wrong? Small power outage by lightning, sudden hurricane? No one knew yet that the Queen was dead.

In the Parliament Marina was giving the announcement. "Last night, our Queen passed away."

Eruption of moans of distress. "As tradition dictates by the Queendom's Laws her heiress our Princess Subaru will be sworn in as our new queen. Milady, please rise."

Subaru arose. Marina bowed first and Subaru bowed before. Marina pulled out a schrol or parchment. The AQA Constitution.

"Repeat after me. I Princess Subaru Akoowa, do solemnly swear, that as my Civic Duty of Queen that I will protect, defend and serve loyally the People of My Queendom. That I shall enact laws fair and balanced, that I shall uphold and defend the Laws of our land. That I shall not use my powers as Queen to bring about harm and distress to my Citizens. And that every day I shall work to make Aqua Anu a continues and strong country. So help me God."

Subaru repeated line for line.

The news came on with a glum, people were huddled around TVs everywhere to hear an important announcement of the Queen's death. Not only that, the world would too.

"Queen Mikaux Akoowa, is dead." Cries were echoing through the street. "As of 9 AM today Princess Subaru has been Coroneted and Sworn in as the new Queen of Aqua Anu. Mikaux has had a long legacy as ruler of this country and a Queen to the World. Her body will be burned and her ashes will be spread. May she forever rest in peace."

The broadcast to the world was virtually the same. "Today it was announced that Queen Mikaux Akoowa of Aqua Anu had passed away sometime in the night. She had been in a battle with Breast Cancer. Her daughter Subaru will take rule of the country effective immediatley. Grand Dutchess Marina Antonioni has sworn Subaru in as the new Queen. The New Queen appreciates the prayers and condolences of her citizens and fellow nation leaders and citizens abroad."

A meeting between some of the highest ranked people (besides the Monarch) were sitting in a room. "Of course, no one in the world gives a care." Came Sir Daemon McNair. He was one of the most notable legislators.

"Now now, Daemon, let's not be to quick to judge."

"Marina..."

"Okay let's forget a moment about who is reacting to what," Admiral Dutch said "and let's keep focusing on the road ahead. After the funeral service Subaru will be Queen officially by the Country."

"I feel we should go to the No Heir Clause Until Subaru comes of age." Daemon said.

"No heir clause?" Marina said. "That clause is reserved strictly for if the Princess is far to young to rule or if the Queen had no children. Subaru is almost 18 years of age and she's always been very mature for her age."

"There are many in the Legislator that feel otherwise."

"Kurona's Princess isn't even Subaru's age and look at her."

"Kurona is a backwards hick country." Daemon said.

"Watch it Daemon." Dutch said.

"Forgive my language but we both know it's very true madam."

"Regardless of my personal life," Marina said "And Kurona's attituteds towards homosexuals they are an established monarch with a very young Princess. I can't imagine the Ryou Queen is much older than Subaru."

"Ryou, don't..."

"Good idea, let's not get started, now Daemon, we are going to follow tradition of this country. Subaru is ready to be the Monarch."

"Not if I get a petition of Disassociative Decision."

"You get a petition I'll veto it." Marina said.

"And we'll over turn your Veto. Subaru may have been sworn in and crowned but until the Queen's body is burned and scattered she is still the Monarch, giving Subaru no Veto Power. Marina, I'm talking a temporary clause of temporary rule by you, the High Duchess until Subaru proves she is ready."

"I will not take the power of Queen. It is that of the Royal Family, not the High Dutchess.* Subaru is our Queen, it has always been Mikaux's will and testimate it has been the law for three centuries."

"We've never had a Queen die while her daughter was still an adolescent child."

"Subaru has always served beside her mother. Daemon we all know it's not me you want to see as Queen, it's your own daughter." Marina said.

"I'll be back Dutchess. With a petition to halt Subaru's acention and to question your competency. Trust me, a veto does not scare me." He stormed out. Now a power struggle was occurring.
