The Orc scratched at his head, glancing at the others in his company.

"I'll handle this. You three take a break.", came a high pitched voice form behind them.

Rizgik, a small lesser Orc that stood around 5'1" with pale, human-like toned skin, and small beady eyes squeezed past the three's mounts and smiled toothily up at the Draconian that had stepped forward, showing his rows of sharp teeth.

"I speak for my lord and master, High Chieftain Grelok. How can I be of service?"

The Draconian stared uneasily at Rizgik for a moment, then he started speaking.
"For centuries, every race has fought each other, countless numbers of people from all races have died. And for what? We are still in the same situation. Therefore I propose a Non-aggression pact and a defense treaty with your race."

As the bugle's call broke the silence, the yeomanry patrol reined in their mounts and scanned the distance.

"There," cried one man, pointing with his spear, "coming over that hill to the north."

"Aelfric," smiled the patrol's commander, "what do you see?"

"I see three mounted men... in shining plate. By the gods! They've got a Fist banner! The Fist? Here?"

"If they're the Fist," smirked Oswald, "then standards have slipped. Why is their armour so shiny?"

"Maybe it's just a new unit. Come, Oswald, raise our banner. We ride!"

With that, the eleven men spurred their horses towards the group of horsemen on the hill...

"They're coming sir!" Called out the standard bearer, still energetically waving his banner. "Shall I stop waving?"
"Nonsense," grumbled the Captain as he finished relieving himself in the bush. "Waving is fun." He clambered back onto his horse and as the horsemen drew near, raised his right arm in greeting.
"Greetings in the name of the Fist!" He saluted, ensuring his posture was stiff. Mustn't appear silly now...

Back at the Fortress-City itself, Tancred was holding council with his sub-commanders.
"The men are getting restless sire," ventured a scarred archer commander, his left cheek still covered in stitches thanks to an Orcish spear.
"They could do with some action," agreed Mordred, toying with a dagger and etching his name on a goblet. "Training can only count for so much - the men need a real victory to lift their spirits. We don't want to have to fall back on only training when the siege comes."
At this, everyone in the room fell silent and stared at the armoured man. Whilst the threat of attack was on the back of everyone's mind, no-one had dared speak it aloud save Tancred, and even he had only mentioned it once.
Tancred cleared his throat loudly.
"Yes, thankyou Mordred. Now moving on to other business..."
A loud slam sounded as Mordered's gauntlet crashed into the table, jolting many and sending drinks flying over armour and clothes.
"We cannot ignore the threat!" He bellowed, his voice full of rage. "Every day our enemies gather in strength and numbers. Every day our race grows closer and closer to subjugation or extermination!"
"And would you have us do," snarled a pikeman, his armour dented from countless battles, "put a blade in the hands of every man, woman and child and have them march against the entire land?"
"Our race has been at war with everyone for years and we grow closer and closer to death. Perhaps our only hope is peace," suggested another soldier.
Mordred's jaw dropped.
"I cannot believe I am hearing this! After all we have lost, all those who have died, and now you seek peace with our enemies?"
"ENOUGH!" Bellowed Tancred, and at once everyone fell silent. "I must consider this matter, but for now we will proceed as follows: Mordred, you are right, the troops need some action. Assemble a raiding party and go and hunt some goblins or some bandits - nothing that belongs to one of the major factions. Ivor, go and see the Magii and tell them that we want to contact the Draconians. Leave."
As one, the sub-commanders stood, bowed to Tancred and took their leave, quietly talking amongst themselves as they left.
"Stay Mordred," ordered Tancred, and the younger Mailed Fist commander stopped to face his superior. Tancred walked to within a couple of paces of him and, after checking that everyone had left the room, dropped his voice to an angry whisper.
"I agree with you my boy. There is but a sparrow's fart of a chance that we can defeat all of our foes, and perhaps a sliver more that the Draconians will talk to us."
"Then why are we putting our heads in the sand and pretending that we still have a chance?" Mordred's whisper was just as angry, but he was completely unprepared for the cuff round the cheek from Tancred.
"Because hope is our greatest weapon Mordred. Why do you think that we still have an army despite so many lost battles and lost fortresses? Why do you think that after seeing so many of their friends and family cut down by nameless horrors, men and women still take up the blade and stand firm? Hope. They have hope in the survival of our people, and I have hope in it as well."
Mordred cracked a grin at Tancred's words.
"I think they have hope in you sir. They know you'll see us through. If only they knew that I was the real brains behind us all..."
"Ha! There's the Mordred I know," beamed Tancred as he clapped him on the shoulder and led him towards the door. "Come on old friend, let's go and put a dent in the keep's ale store before you set off."

The bowman standing watch on the keep roof nursed his sore head and wondered why on earth he'd had that second jug of wine last night. Right now it felt like a demon was trying to claw its way out of his head and stomach, and at this rate it would be out soon. His self pity was soon ended when he caught sight of fifty-odd Draconians swooping down out of the clouds.

" 'ware the roof!" He called, dropping to his knees to pick up his bow and quiver.
"That won't be necessary," came the voice of Tancred from behind him. "They should be here to talk."
The bowman dropped his bow in disbelief. "Talk? Them?" He gestured towards the approaching Draconians angrily. "All they want is to kill us all."
"We don't know that for sure, and we never will unless we talk to them. Now, I have a task for you soldier. Find Mordred, and tell him our guests have arrived. Have food and wine prepared." Tancred's voice left no room for dissent, and the soldier bowed in assent.
'Aye my lord, it will be done as you asked." With that the bowman left, squeezing past several armoured men coming up the single staircase that led from the interior.

On the roof, Tancred stood in full armour along with twenty of his Mailed Fist, also in full plate from head to toe. Unlike Tancred, the soldiers were armed and had their visors down to conceal their faces, though all swords were in their scabbards. When the Draconians drew near, Tancred grinned and raised his right arm in salute.
"Greetings Draconian, I see you got my message?"

Some of the twenty feet high Draconians looked at the soldiers uneasily. Fantis however calmed them down, and warned them not to do anything stupid that could ruin the talks.

"My apologies for the somewhat crude method used to get in touch with you, good sir," apologised Tancred with a bow. "But as a fellow warrior, one must make do with what one has to hand." Tancred allowed a trace of humour to creep into his voice - after all, the Draconian seemed amused, didn't he? However, he kept his tone neutral for what he had to say next.
"Let us talk, Draconian, as warrior to warrior. Your people are clearly a rising power in this land, and whilst your numbers are small, your deeds are impressive. Every man standing on this rooftop," he turned and waved his hand to encompass all of the human soldiers on the rooftop, "has fought against your kind and can personally attest to your skill at arms. Likewise I am sure your warriors have fought against our kind, and know that when our backs are against the walls we fight like wildcats." As he was speaking, Tancred remembered all of the battles fought, won and lost, countless images of fallen friends and foes flashing before his eyes. He continued, talking as if stating a simple matter of fact. "I am not one for clever words or political bargains, but I have this to say: here, gathered in this fortress, is the mightiest human army ever seen, comprised of the most experienced human warriors from all over this land with nothing to lose and everything to gain. Your armies might wage war on us and succeed, but by the Horn we would bloody your nose so viciously that you will be easy prey to the Dwarfs, Elves, Orcs or even the Vampires or Demons. I see that some of your personal guard seem ill at ease around a score of my men - imagine your army when it came to face over thirty thousand human soldiers, ready to give their lives." He paused for a second, just a second, to let his words sink in.
"If you agree to leave us be, to let Sygiria be ruled by humans and continue to be a free human domain, then by the authority of me, Tancred of the Mailed Fist, I will sign a treaty of non-agression and friendship with you and your kind. We will respect your land and your customs, and if war is ever declared on you our armies will march with yours. Likewise if someone declares war on us, your armies will aid us. Divided, our people could fall easy prey to the numerous threats. United, we can survive. What say you?"

True to Tancred's word, the twenty soldiers had all fought Draconians before, and whilst they felt uneasy around them, the soldiers of the Mailed Fist held fast with their legendary discipline. A few smirked underneath their helmets at how uneasy the Draconians felt around the humans.

"So be it," he beamed. "Our merchants shall be free to enter your lands, and vice versa. Let it be known that on this day, peace between Draconian and human came around." Tancred then took a couple of steps closer to Fantis, removing his right gauntlet, then his chainmail, then his padded gloves and handed them to one of the Mailed Fist soldiers, who handed Tancred a small dagger.
"Draconian!" He called out, so that all on the rooftop could hear clearly. "Paper wears and tears, plus words can be distorted by lawyers and other such filth. Will you cut your palm with me and shake, binding us be blood to seal and honour our pact?" Taking the dagger, Tancred sliced his palm from top to bottom, letting the blood flow freely. Handing the dagger back to the soldier, he held his hand up for the Draconian to shake.

A few days after the arrival of the Draconian emissaries...

Grelok watched atop his war wolf from a nearby hill as his army marched towards the Elven forests. A massive war host of thousands. Every Orc of age that could wield a weapon and hold a shield was assembled and assimilated into the army.

War drums beat in rhythm with their marching which shook the ground beneath them. Massive machines of war were being towed at the rear.

He grinned and basked in all the glory of his army. They would reach the forests of the Elves in 2 days, and hopefully their Demon allies would already be there...

Grelok snorted as his army has reached the tree line of the Elven territories. "Let it commence! Carve a path to their puny villages!" the army cheered and roared in response to this and a large seiege engine was rolled forward. It was akin to a catapult but it had a massive axe blade that was pulled back into place by a series of cranks. Once in place, it would be released and the force of its release would easily cleave a tree of thousands of years of age in half.

The weapon was primed into place by a crew of some dozen Orcs who, though stupid, were chosen physically for the task of operating the machine. "Release!", roared the crew's captain and the crew pulled a lever on the frame which released the axe. The massive blade cut cleanly through a pair of trees and as their canopies toppled to the ground the Orcs were quick to take them and begin chopping them to build more engines of war as well as battlements for future battles.

"Spiders? My father can control insects, I don't know about giant spiders, but maybe it works on them to." said Salpsan, trying to convert the draconian leader to his side of the war.

OOC: Greal, if you don't want me to be able to control giant spiders, we can just say that Beelzebub's power doesn't work on them.

"As long as I am under Umbra's control I believe I should be able to manage such a thing..." The Crypt Angel said in a deep, drawn-out voice, "I can only assume that the demons in question are those." It pointed to the assaulting mass behind it. "Beelzebub, I recognize that scent anywhere... the warmongering fool has decided to begin his campaign... I will do what I can. Know this, Beelzebub is a warmonger. I doubt there is even a sliver of intelligence inside his mind that would have him listen to a peace offering." The angel turned to face the oncoming demons, "But he's not here? Oh, he must have sent someone in his stead."

"Probably what happened. But from the looks of this battle, we will not be able to keep holding them here." Aeris said, looking down upon the demons and elves fighting. "We need a way out, and fast." It was true what she said. The elves were beginning to lose, and badly. "Do you have a way of getting all of the soldiers here to safety? I hope I'm not asking too much, but I take lives over land any day."

OOC: I'm pulling out of this thread, I just can't keep up with everything going on so GW, take it from here.

Beelzebub, who was still standing by Gerlok's side, turned to his ally. "If I know this pathetic race right, they'll be pulling out of this battle soon." Natalya flew to Beelzebub's side. "The elves are becomming weaker, my master. Soon this territory will be under your rule."

"We are fighting the giant spiders, but they are unfortunately always numerous. If you help us, then I'll break the pact with elves." said Fantis.

OOC: Alright

The Crypt Angel let out a sigh before then letting out a roar of annoyance. "Fine," it said as it turned to the front lines. All elves will now go into full retreat. This is the Crypt Angel of Umbra, you will all listen to me and retreat. I have full control over the situation now. That was a psychic message the demon sen tto the elves, one by one they all heeded his words and began to retreat. He turned to Aeris, "go into the forest, head south. I'll be there shortly."
He walked past the retreating elves to the front lines. He saw the demons but didn't care, "You will all now cease your attack. The elves are under my command and protection as they leave this area. Failure to comply with my order will result in immediate destruction of all attackers." As he spoke the elves disapeared into the forest. He then sent a telepathic message to Umbra, The elves are now withdrawing, master. I am going to take them to Pyro's castle where they will be safe. There is not much more here to do. Umbra heard this and responded, Very well. If the demons do not cease attacks you have permission to kill them all. The Crypt Angel smiled and let out a deep laugh as it heard this.

Beelzebub and Natalya flew from Gerlok and landed in front of the Crypt Angel.
"You think you can tell my armies what to do?" roared Beelzebub. "You think you can just claim this battle to be over? I am in command here. You can retreat the battle field, but you can't stop the demonic and orcish armies."

The Crypt Angel cocked its head, "With every moment you stand in front of me I absorb a little more of your power." The Crypt Angel stapped its fingers watching the ground around it and Beezlebub erupt into black flames, "I have no patience at the moment. Now cease attacking or face pure Wrath."

OOC: can he do that?

Beelzebub and the other demons backed away, while Natalya steped forward and pulled out a dagger.
"Let's see how you do against the living dead." she said.
