Nuclear program

Soviet-slavya

We, the people have decided to start a nuclear program for our defences.

Army, Marines, Airforce, and the Navy all together was 3% of our population. Due to the Pulicities on the TV and billboards, we have gained 14% of our patriotic population recruited in the military. Reason for this is because We WERE vunerable to any threat only no defence.

OOC: You're way to small for nukes. The rule of thumb here is that you must have over 100 million people.

OOC: It's very, very unlikely that anyone is going to just "give" you nuclear weapons. You have to build your country up to the point where you have the infrastructure in place to support them. Heck, my nation's moving up on 300 million people, and I barely have any WMDs (albeit because it's much easier to RP conventional forces for all parties involved, than it is to say "I'm launching catastrophic nuclear weapons," only to have the other person say "That's it, I'm done, no more RP-ing,"), but I digress.

Yeah. You have to have 100 million people, and you can't have 14 percent of your populace in your military. If I'm correct then you can only have 1%. Or 2-3% i forgot.

I"ve been playing for 3 years. But my old country got cancceled because I went on vacation for a long time, and forgot to set it into vacation mode. So they got rid of my country. So I had to make this one. So I'm pretty expeirienced. And the first threads in international incidents is all about the rules. What you did is called god modding. Being god basically. I once did it too. So I'm not being harsh about it. Don't worry about it too.

He didn't godmod, he just didn't know about the accepted numbers here.

Ok. Good point.

I just second what everyone else said.

Also, Soviet-Slavya, don't play around with nukes to much. As Salzland correctly says, people generally won't often accept them as an attacking force. Why? Because they're not fun to RP, and not easy to respond to.

Israel has nukes and its population is only 7 million, so it's more than possible in real life for a nation to be small and nuclear armed. Chemical weapons are even cheaper.

I got glassed with nuclear weapons last year and I have a population of several billion.

Israel has nukes because 1) they are surrounded by their mortal enemies and therefore have an extremely capable military in general and 2) the US gave the nukes to them. (And technically, I'm pretty sure it's just speculation that they have nuclear weapons).

Certainly Israel is the exception, rather than the rule, between their proportionally large defense expenditures and the fact that they enjoy the patronage of the world's sole superpower.

Additionally, it would be hard for Soviet-slavya to develop nuclear weapons with a defense budget of $0 (figures courtesy of NSTracker).

It is speculation Israel does not deny or confirm any reports of carrying nuclear weapons. Many believe that they do have nuclear weapons, but america most certainly did not supply them. It goes against the Geneva convention or something like that. Of course I do not know the inner workings of America or Israel so I cannot say that America did not supply Israel with nuclear weapons. But this is NS not the real world and rules are rules.

There are no rules in NS except what other people will accept.

You want nukes, go ahead and do it - it's probably smarter to RP the development of a nuclear programme if you're going to be a small nation with them, though.

No, there's no international law against supplying another country with nuclear weapons (barring the NPA, which only came into existence in the late sixties), and Israel was/is a key US ally in a highly Soviet-dominated area. The US under Eisenhower supplied them (well, the IAEA supplied them) with the technology needed to build a research reactor, quickly followed by a full scale plutonium reprocessing plant with the aid of the French. Nuclear tech Mordechai Zanunu leaked information about Israel's nuclear capabilities in the late eighties, saying that they had about a hundred warheads. Considering that he was kidnapped by the Mossad and tried for treason and espionage, I'd say he was pretty close.

I think there's some UN rule against it (i.e., only certain nations can "legally" have nukes). The US doesn't seem to mind defying the UN too much though.
