This thread is going to be a roleplay based off of the world created by Stephanie Meyer in her latest novel, The Host.

In this not too distant time, Earth has been invaded. Aliens began implanting themselves into human bodies, assuming their lives and furthering Earth technology with advancement in medicines and peace. The only war is that between wild humans and the host species. The rebellion is here.

In the world Meyer created, aliens travel the universe and are implanted into bodies on many planets, some explained further in the book. They do not die unless their host bodies die with them inside, but this is prevented by removal of the aliens before the body passes. They study the species before mass implantation begins to learn how to care for their bodies, and it is not a moral concern as they claim to improve the human’s lives.

However, in the book, an alien (Wanderer, name eventually changed to Wanda in the novel) cannot gain control of her host’s mind, and eventually finds the group of wild humans this host was going to for protection. Eventually she shares the secret of removing hosts from bodies, with the trade of knowing that the doctor will return them (the sleeping aliens) to other worlds, and not kill them. Some may be allowed to stay if the human’s soul has left the body completely, however, as Wanda’s soul eventually stayed on Earth after falling in love with a human.

I want to see how we can take this in a NS point of view. We would be in and of one world, with people from different countries, all working together to solve the problem, and mostly fight to survive while hiding from the aliens. We would need to agree on one location for the rebel group. I suggest the USA, since it is in Arizona (Picacho Peak, to be exact) that the rebel group in the novel is hidden, using the desert caves and underwater streams below for survival in the former volcano.

I do not want characters from the story, since using them would not suit the purpose of the International Incidents thread here. However, situations portrayed in the book would be extremely appropriate. People who have a parasite inside fighting for control of their bodies, or parasites with a “conscience” who are fighting for humans, or aliens hunting humans are all acceptable kinds of characters, and many others would be fine.

Limitations (to keep the integrity of this thread):

Technology:
All of the technology in this thread is to be modern technology. Period. The only exceptions are Medical, and that having to do with the transportation of the cryogenically sleeping aliens. As far as medical advances go, Alien hospitals have the technology to cure the ailments of humans, such as a fever, skin injuries, broken bones, etc. It is hard to explain and definitely better if you have read the book, but imagine having a hiking injury leaving you with a bashed in shoulder. They would spray disinfectant, heal, cool (if there was a fever), and then sprinkle on a powder to take away the scar.

Characterization:
As I have said before, copying of the characters in the book will not be much appreciated. Those who are rebel humans will exist in a similar caved “community” in the desert, but not in the exact same location.

The Rebellion:
This is meant to be a long process, and a lasting RP. Godmodding or simply capturing all the humans is not appreciated, just as all the humans taking the aliens and removing them from everyone is not good, since it will end the RP. Let’s make this fun, and try to keep the sides even!

The Hiding Place:
The rebels are hiding out in the caverns of an extinct volcano in the Arizona desert. There are many caves that have been converted into great rooms, a kitchen, bedrooms, and store rooms. There are holes hidden by rocks and shrubs that let in air and light, reflected by stolen mirrors throughout the cavern. There are underground streams, which are dangerous and deadly, but provide the ability for life to continue, the land providing them with safety.

Raids:
The rebel humans go on raids to the nearby cities and towns to glean what they can from the aliens to survive. Raids are extremely dangerous, but very necessary to the survival of the Rebels. Aliens tend to keep a patterned lifestyle, so the rebels can watch them long enough to learn when it is safe, and steal from homes.

The “Conscience:”
Aliens can develop what humans have begun to call the “conscience” when they either become sympathetic to the humans and help, or when they give their human host minimal control of their body.

Vocabulary you may need to know:

Wild Humans: humans who have not been caught and implanted with an alien
Seeker: Alien implanted humans who seek out wild humans for implantation
Parasite: The alien inside of a human body
Host: a body that is meant for implantation
Cryogenic Sleep: The state the aliens are kept while not inside a host body
Identification: People can identify humans with aliens inside, because those who are host bodies to aliens have a silver metallic-looking ring between the iris and the color of the eye revealed in light. Alien infested humans also have a small light scar on the back of their necks from implantation.

While on a raid, she was discovered and rescued by the members of a rebel community. She and Dakota were taken there, where she acts as the group's doctor.

Elle is not aware of how to successfully remove aliens from human hosts as of yet. However, she is trying.

Other Information: He's a voluntary host for the aliens, but it can't always control him. No matter who's in control of his body, they fight for the resistance.

I was made aware that this thread seems like I didn't understand the world. I do, but it is hard to explain while leaving out the romance triangle part.

When the alien attacks were first reported he was 31. Everyone he knew was infected. He then traveled to several other countries and met up with a team of rebels.

Background Information: He is the direct descendent of two (now dead) italian immigrants. They came to America and settled in New York City. Redd immediately became involved in the local crime families after discovering that he and mob boss Frank Costello shared hometowns.

Redd worked his way up the chain from peon to a relatively high position as one of Costello's advisors. He was well known for his brutality, even to the people he associated with.

He held that seat of power for a few years before, as is the way of the Italian Mob, an attempt was made on his life. The assassin encountered a friend leaving his apartment and, mistaking the friend for Redd, blew him to bits, thinking the job was done. Redd heard the gunshots, went down the stairs, and found his friend, mutilated by the bullets.

He fled to New Mexico, relying on it's openness. When the Invasion hit, he went into his basement, and hid in a shelter he'd designed in case the assassin ever found him. But Ken, no vampires. This is fantasy, but it's got set limits. You can make a character with some abnormal traits as if expiramented on by the aliens, but vampires aren't included with this. Of course, Dans may say I'm in the wrong here, but I don't think I am.

Yeah. Vamps are a no-no. This is a realistic roleplay, after all. An epidemic has arisin, the implanting of aliens that is, but otherwise this could be our world today. Minus war, and famine, and greed.

He escaped Kenavt when it came under attack from the aliens, and heard of a community resisting. He set out for them... and has now found them.

Looks good, except that Kenavt is fictional and this takes place on the real life earth of a couple years from now.

Yes, Dans said that if she wasn't here I can approve. And if you're talking about entering with Elle, that's not ok. Dans did that for reasons I don't yet know and so you have two options. Already being one of the group or arriving. Upon arrival you will face the jury (currently Redd and Kathy as most of the rest are busy or out cold) or if you're a member (the easier route) you can just jump right in and be upset about Elle.

I think they all went back into the cave after the gun fight. Oh, and my bad, you were kinda right, I guess it is an extinct volcano, and they're hidden in the cave in the rocks around it that leads to the inside of the volcano, I think.

Ok. Maybe I'm just being way too picky, but I think the realism needs tweaking here and there. In the short fight scene, apparently, everyone is godly accurate. I don't think anyone in the whole story yet has military training, or enough to qualify this.

I would have to agree with you. Although I didn't really read the fight scene, I browsed through it. And if everyone was hitting everyone else... that's pretty unrealistic.

Well my char lead a revolution which succeded in the Dominican Republic. And before that he had 5 years of military expierience. So he's pretty damn accurate. And my char didn't hit all of his shots, Infact, he missed a bunch, but i didnt say that. I didnt even say wheater or not he killed anyone. I dont think anyway.

I was wondering if I could skip being with Omari/East Laos, since I'd like to be at the base. Chasing Elle, when East Laos is around, isn't something I can't do well. Do you think I could RP getting out of his Escalade?

I've not been following much, but did you get in for the purpose of following him or did you just get dragged along? If you got dragged along, RP getting out before he takes off. Of course, that only works if you haven't done anything in the Escelade already. Also, with Omari and EL following Redd and Redd following Ty, they're all stuck until Dans gets back because I need to know what to do and Ty's far in the lead of all of them.

I only got in because I gave East Laos temporary control of my char.

Omari went into the cave and got out an AK, five 100 round drums, five thirty round drums including the one in the gun. He then ran to his Escalade and turned it on. He signaled for Kevin to get into the back of the car. He knew that this wasn't the fastest, or the best car to be riding in. But it was the one he had so he began to speed away, with Kevin in the back.

In that case, we need to wait for Dans. I would say that we could simply ignore him doing that since it was against your ultimate wishes, but at the same time, you did give him control of your character.

Res, CB radios have been around forever for a reason. If Ty was just passing him, it would have come in VERY clear. CB radios have a range of many, many miles. Also, it wouldn't have been in the dash, it would be a stand alone device underneath the dash, but still visible to the driver.

Sorry if I sound mean, I'm just really picky about technology.

It would ruin the unit. Plain and simple. It wouldn't make it work less effectively, just break. If the short was to the speaker or the microphone, those just plain wouldn't work.

It's still godmodding and I don't appreciate it. Next time you want to take a liberty, make sure it doesn't go against the character's owner's plans. And if you thought the trip was long, say something. I had been posting and you said that right after I made a post.

What I'm saying is not much was happening. we were just driving....and driving...and driving.

So say that, it's better than forcing my character into doing something I didn't want him to do.
