The Vetalian Chamber of Commerce
"Today, tragedy strikes the Vante: Lord Protector Tucker Boot has died at the age of sixty. The good Capitalist died in his sleep, of natural causes..." read Litalia, laying down the Golddale Times on the table for all to see.
"This is just the opportunity I have been waiting for. As you all know, the Monarchy has been disbanded for years. The Prince was hung. You killed the Emperor. The Empress died of shock. Both Vantanas and Vetalia disbanded the monarchy, and the Greater Empire Treaty was only used to justify economic actions between our peoples.
"However, I reveal to you a plain fact: The House of Akhari, the house which the former Emperor of Vetalia was married into, still lives. Barzahl was not the only child produced by Litalia, my mother. God bless Ghaldring, my older brother, who died in the Battle of Vantepolis. Now I am the sole bearer of the name, and I am the heir to the throne."
"You men have ruled Vetalia for God knows how long. You were the men who selected the Emperor, my father. Support me, and the lines of Vetalia will be redrawn, the provinces named in your honor. You shall become lords and ladies in the House of Lords, and trust me, you will have power. Together with the other three noble houses of the Vante, that is."
"Refuse me, and I shall have the Vetalian military declare you all terrorists, kill you, and raze this building to the ground. The choice is yours."
The Chamber voted unanimously: Empress Litalia II of Vetalia was crowned right then, and there.
The Vanteland
Thomas was your average Vantanian: middle class, white, college-educated, and an entrepreneur. Just half a week ago, Tucker Boot had died, plunging the Vantelnad into uncertainty. Meanwhile, all communications with their massive trade parter to the north, Vetalia, ceased, although the trucks and trains still continued to bring supplies and people to and fro between them. It was for this reason that Thomas had taken to watching the news more and more, to try and get some sense of the Vetalian situation. Little did he know he was about to get more than he had bargained for.
"Recently, Empress Litalia II of Vetalia, heir to the Akhari throne, has proclaimed herself to be rightful ruler of the Vante. Already, she has the backing of the three noble houses, including Jack Boot himself, as well as all of Vetalia. Pointing to the Anullment Act, which repealed all treaties with states that no longer exist, as well as all legislature from before the creation of the Vanteland, she noted that the Treaty of Spire was the act that disbanded the Akhari Dynasty, and was repealled by Anullment when the Kroandon state was overthrown by the militant White Hand. However, the Greater Empire Treaty has not been anulled, as Vetalia still exists.
Lawyers are saying this is one of the greatest legal loopholes exploited in history, and proclaim that Litalia II is now Empress of the Vante-Vetalian Empire. Public opinion has largely been either supportive, or benign. Noting this, Litalia said to all of her subjects: 'We are no longer two nations, nor even two nations closely bonder. We are one nation, one Greater Empire, one United Kingdom. God bless.'"
