This is my race's factbook for the PT World Sign Up (High Fantasy, Open) thread. I'll prolly be making a few more updates but here's the main stuff, sorry if its too long or anything, it's my first factbook.

Children of Midnight/ Twilarai

An ancient race of humans that became very well known assassins before disappearing from the world. They went into hiding for hundreds of years and slowly became more powerful. They do have any care for much in the outside world and usually just wish to be left alone. The main classes taken by people from this society are thieves, rouges, bards and assassins. They are very quick and agile as well as very smart and stealthy simply by nature. Men stand at about six feet or less, as do the women. Notable features are that many of the people have blue, green, or red eyes, some even have white eyes. They like cold climates the best but have adapted in such a way that they can quickly adjust to any climate.

The Children of Midnight are isolationists. They all serve a council which makes decisions based on the interests of the people and what is best for the clans as a whole. There are three different clans, each one has similar skills but with there own extra and unique benefits. The primary magical ability of the Midnight race is the ability to create and manipulate ice, water, shadows, and fire as well as move and fight with inhuman speed and grace. Some children have developed extra abilities but this is very rare.

The Twilarai are not the most religious of races but do, occasionally, pray to the Goddess of Midnight in their many secret shrines. Twilarai do not believe that their goddess will give them favors so instead they thank her in their prayers for simply allowing them to be created and to live in peace. Though the Twilarai keep to themselves most of the time they do sell their services to others. Mostly they look out for each other, everyone gets treatment based on how well they can pull their weight. When the Twilarai are not fighting they usually are doing internal trading, hunters gather meat and on occasion bring back berries or edible plants. Farming take care of the few domesticated animals capable of living in the lands the Twilarai adore. When they must trade outside their village they use silver coins. Occasionally there are festivals but these only occur when something tremendous has happened. They view outsiders as more of a burden than anything else but are typically neutral towards them as long as said outsider(s) aren’t bothering them in any way.

Technology wise they are more or less based on ancient Japan and China. So they have some gunpowder but not really a lot of it. Gunpowder is sometimes used to make explosives but this is also very rare and used as a last resort. However, the Twilarai have been known to use smoke bombs. They have the basic stone and wood structures. They know how to make log, arrow, and pit traps as well as pressure plate activated traps (though those are more rare). They can work metal for armor, though if they do its typically chain mail or something else light. Most armor is made of cloth/leather with a little steel plating underneath to protect vital areas. Weapons are steel based and due to the fact they use kunai and shuriken, warriors typically have to gather up weapons when a battle is done.

The first clan is the Penumbra clan. The head of this clan is the demon, Umbra. Those who come form this clan specialize in fear tactics and shadow arts. They make excellent summoners and warlocks. A select few from this clan also specialize in making constructs, the head most of the academies that focus on magic. Recently, Umbra’s academies began teaching assassins how to create illusions due to a stranger known only as ‘Mirage.’

The second clan is the Naturebound clan. The head of his clan is the Vara, one of the few rangers in the entire population. Her clan members are excellent with animals and make some of the best scouts, trappers, and archers. Her clan has a much darker side though; they possess the ability to many animals stronger and faster than they should be by using unique spells and enchantments. They are also best at making poisons and medicines as well as creating the traps that help defend the village.

The third clan is the Windrunner clan. The clan head is Ken Windnrunner who also happens to train many of the Midnight warriors, no matter the clan. His clan services all the others by crafting and enchanting armor and weapons as well as handling the basic and some of the more advanced fighting skills. Many members of this clan are unnaturally fast and have high stamina. They are by far some of the best assassins and spy but also are good foot soldiers.

The important people among the Twilarai are:

Umbra: An ancient Twilight Demon that is said to be one of the founders of not only the village but the race itself. Umbra wields a scythe that can be summoned at any time, the scythe itself is said to be vamperic in nature. Umbra himself can be recognized as he’s the only one who walks around with no shirt on, he has pale skin and most of his body is covered in tattoos. Umbra can summon armor into battle whenever he wishes and can also take a full demon form; this form is very powerful but also requires plenty of energy. Umbra is the reason the Children of Midnight are also known as the Twilarai.

Vara the Naturebound: An expert in many fields, most particularly animal training, poison and medicine making, trap-making, and archery. She is fast and smart, as are the people she trains. She favors a longbow over most other things but can defend herself with a sword as well. Her eyes are some of the best among the Twilarai and were accuracy is both admired and feared. She is the only person among her clan who has managed to tame an entire pack of wolves that follow her around loyally.

Ken Windrunner: Head of the Windrunner clan and also an expert of melee combat, Ken handles most of the training for wannabe warriors. His hand-to-hand skills are impressive; his ability to fend off a sword with a knife is even more impressive. He knows the weak spots in a person’s body and exploits them in fights, taking him head on is a bad idea. He is hot-headed and quick to start or end a fight. He also is a well accomplished blacksmith as is his clan, he makes sure all the soldiers and warriors have the weapons and armor they need.

Well Known People:

Ghost: A young male warrior that excelled at assassin training, he is one of the few assassins that knows how to turn his emotions on and off at will. His favor weapons are the kunai and shuriken which he carries plenty of into battle. He also is very skilled in manipulating and creating ice to trap his enemies. His weakness is the fact that he wears very light armor. He is cold and calculating, a stalker and a shadow. Ghost’s main ability is that his eyes are very sharp and it is said he can see people through solid walls.

Ruby: A female warrior a little older than Ghost, Ruby possesses the unique ability of being able to not only summon armor and weapons but change her forearm and hands into blades. She is also excellent with fire though not very good with many other elements besides shadow; she can be rash at times and often charges into battle first.

Crimson (Dragonborn): Crimson is an outcast, he was thought as useless as he failed in most of the fields required to be an assassin. However, the Twilarai found a use for him, he was stronger than most of them and eventually found his primary skills to be fire and shadow manipulation and creation. He wears heavy armor, armor that cannot be worn by anyone else among the Twilarai, and also wields a large battleaxe. Despite this, he is still a fast warrior, no one knows how he is able to move like most of the other assassins in his armor but he does. His skills in shadow are few but his advancement in fire manipulation is feared, many believe he is the descendant of a dragon.

Mirage: This is one of the most mysterious people among the Twilarai, he actually isn’t a Twilaran but he was accepted with open arms after proving he was loyal to them. He is a special person indeed, creating powerful illusions and his kills happen so fast that his weapons are rarely seen. He is a support unit in battle more than he is a fighter; allies around him are able to move faster for some mysterious reason. Recently he began teaching many wannabe assassins how to create illusions.

Rainok the Harbinger: This man has been Umbra’s assistant for some time and his abilities in the shadow arts are very impressive. He uses special crystals to capture spirits and is called ‘the Harbinger’ due to the fact he can summon those spirits at almost any time from said crystals. He is not very skilled at melee combat but is still a formidable foe. He does carry multiple shuriken and a dagger on his person in case he needs to fight without his spirits to back him up.

Rose: An older assassin who played a part in Mirage’s acceptance into the Twilarai. She is the only person in the clan who can manipulate electrical energy and is also a very skilled healer. She is calm person but when angered can be a very difficult person to control.

Nightshade: Like Crimson, Nightshade is a bit of an outcast but people like him because his abilities are unique and he can be used as an effective weapon. Nightshade is very skilled with making poison as well as summoning undead but is also immune to poison as well. Some of the very poisons he has created flow through his bloodstream because he is immune to them. His favored ‘normal’ ability is manipulating air and wind. He wields three katanas, why no one knows, and is especially fast and is an elite close range fighter. His one problem is that he typically underestimates enemies.
