Baldidom

Baldi Square
A lone figure marches solemnly across Baldi Square, each step taking him farther from the small group of military officers to his rear and closer to the hated enemies at the dais directly in front of him.
Jeff Madison watched with satisfaction as the Niemanties finally surrendered in an elaborate and humiliating ceremony. He stood proudly as Field Marshal Davidson approached and bowed down, presenting a ceremonial saber. Madison took the saber and held it aloft over his head as he began to condemn the centuries of Nieman oppression and decades of bloody conflict that finally resulted in a free Baldidom just days ago.
Hours later the field marshal was led away and Madison took the oath of office to become the first ever President of Baldidom.
“Assuming the office of President of the People’s Republic of Baldidom, I promise and affirm by my honor and by my conscience to faithfully serve our people, to respect and safeguard the rights and liberties of man and citizen, to abide by and protect the Constitution of the republic, and to discharge strictly and conscientiously the lofty duties that have been bestowed upon me; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.”
The ceremonies continued. The cabinet and newly elected legislature was sworn in and the parades and festivities carried on into the wee hours of the night but what was truly important had already occurred. For the first time in more that 500 years, the Baldis were free and they had chosen their own leader whose only authority was derived from their consent.

Deputy Minister Frida Zidell was as frantic woman to begin with and planning a major gala did little for her ailing heart.
"MARSHA!!!!!" she shouted.
Marsha Milwood, 26, appeared from underneath a desk where she was filing menu options.
"Yes, Madam Minister," she replied.
"Marsha, have you narrowed down a menu yet?"
"I'll have it on your desktop momentarily."
"Thank you Marsha."
"Will there be anything else?"
"Thats, all for now"
Zidell returned to her spacious office overlooking the southern side of Mt. Bartlett before turning to her desk where a holographic icon hovered above a stack of hastily scrawled notes. Zidell taped the icon, entered her passcode on the numberpad embedded on her desk and scanned the menu.

From: Frank Benjamin, Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Peoples’ Republic of Baldidom
To: The Nations of the World:
You are cordially invited to celebrate the long awaited independence of the Peoples’ Republic of Baldidom after 57 years of revolutionary struggle against the oppressive Niemanites.
President Jeff Madison and Speaker of the Soren AJ Webster humbly request diplomatic relations with your nation and as a sign of good faith, invite your to the Liberty Ball to be held in our beautiful capital – Leo.
Overlooking most of our small island from atop Mt. Bartlett, Leo is a modernizing city; but the Presidential Palace will be able to luxuriously accommodate all foreign dignitaries.
The favor of your reply is requested, to be returned to Minister Benjamin.
Commander Harper Moore of the Presidential Protective Service will arrange security Logistics.
