Changing the World (MT Open)

The Beatus

Excerpts from, Time in the Hand, by Gregor Invesservhich, published 1964.
...The time comes when a man must make his choice, chose his own path, decide whether he will follow in his fathers footsteps, or he will strike out his own path, and make a name for himself. When that time comes, what will you do, will you continue with the status quo, be complacent, or will you stand up, and change the world,...
...let explosives by your words, and bullets be your acts, as you forge a new path to greatness...
...they are wrong, the seek to keep you down, to sap your vitality from you, they wish you to serve them, they say you are free, then they hold you back...
...they are not your friends, they do not want you to succede, they want you to fail, they want you to be broken...
...You must take arms against those in authority. You must show them that you are not going to let them hold you back...
...They tell you that you are doing well, that you have it better than the rest of the world, and you are satisfied. You sit at home, watching TV like a good little citizen, while the government makes you fat, lazy, stupid incapable of resisting them...

Fínn, Heilagleiki Province, the Theocratic Republic of the Beatus

Robert Feeder stood on the corner of Clark St. and Gable Rd., in downtown Fínn. Most just saw him as another teenager fresh out of high school. They were sadly mistaken. As the light changed, Robert adjusted his backpack, and followed the rest of the people crossing the street. On the other side was the Inkork Building, which housed the Provincial Government Offices. He entered the building, security was light, and he had no trouble. His first stop was the restroom. He went into the stall, and changed his clothing. He was now wearing a James Power & Water Co. uniform he had purchased at an auction. He silently moved towards the stairwell to the basement, no one stopped him, as he looked as if he belonged. Once out of the busy lobby, he broke into a run down the stairs to the basement. Thinking back to the blueprints he looked over earlier, he remembered where the main supports where, and where was best to place the C4. He set the timers for 20 minutes, and rushed back upstairs, he had no trouble getting out of the building, as what little security they had was more worried about what was coming in than what was going out. As he left, he checked his watch, he had five minutes. He made his way across the street, into an ally, and took of the JPW uniform, stashed it in a dumpster, and made it back to the street with seconds to go. He placed his hand in his pocket, on his copy of Time in the Hand, and watched. At exactly 9:00 am local time, the C4 detonated. The ground shook outside, dust obscured the view of the building, as it began to collapse.

David flipped through the channels to find a Network of Uiri News Report. It was 8 hours after noon and the news was just starting. The News Reporter was pretty as she told of a tragic event, "Today, at approximately 9 in the morning local time, in the city of Fínn in the Beatus, the Inkork Building, which houses the government offices for the Beatusian province of Heilagleiki was blown up by C4 placed in the foundation of the building. Who caused this and why still remains a mystery..."
