Curia Regis

"This is Brad Applewood of Curia Regis News, Channel One, and I've just recieved some disturbing amateur footage. It was taken in the capital of our neighboring country, the People's Republic of Dictatoria. As you can see, the students of this once proud nation are protesting the military dictatorship that has once again arrested the leaders of the opposition movements. There were an estimated 10,000 protesters nation wide in response to the police raids that resulted in forty-two arrests. As far..."
The phrase is cut off by the audio from the footage as a megaphone roars to life, and the camera swivels to focus on a group of three or four tanks approaching the square, backed by several hundred "police" officers (glorified thugs hired by the government), some armed with grenade launchers but most with billy clubs and handguns. The man with the megaphone is heavily decorated with medals and is riding in the lead tank.
"This protest violates the sovreign decree of Executive Prime Minister Jane Soon. You are all under arrest!"
A line of students barred the street, and the tanks momentarily ground to a halt. The general in the tank looked down at the young protesters and then raised the megaphone again.
"Take them!"
The police rushed the mass of students with raised billy clubs, dropping the unarmed college students as those armed with the launchers fire smoke grenades over their comrades heads. Students begin to flee en masse, when other groups of thugs emerge from the surrounding buildings and cut off the escape. Screams fill the air, and the camera focuses on a single student striking an officer over the head with his sign. The officer shoves the protester to the ground, draws his gun, and fires four rounds into his floored opponent. The camera holder screams in terror and turns when the screen goes black.
"Initial casualty counts run from anywhere in the low hundreds to almost 2000, with several thousand more arrested. Now to you with the weather, Johnson."
President Michael Alexandros of Curia Regis turned off the television in his office, and turned to the fit, middle aged man standing on the other side of his desk.
"General, I know I just courtmarshalled you a month ago, but I'd be obliged if you'd help with this."
General Reginald Arturo smiled inwardly, and shook the President's outstretched hand. "Didn't you have me outed for getting us involved in foreign affairs?"
Alexandros glared at the officer, and spoke condescendingly.
"This is in our own backyard. Chernobyl-Pripyat is 3000 miles away, and they had plenty of help."
"Of course, sir."
The Chief Executive rubbed his temples and closed his eyes.
"Listen, Reggie, I need you to help me. Our military is being led by a bunch of politicians more interested in a seat in Parliament or retirement than in the lives of our populace. Besides, those assholes in Dictatoria massacred students. I can't let that happen three hundred miles from the border without doing something."
The General stood silent for a moment. He was continually amazed that an idealist like Alexandros had ever been elected in the political quagmire that was Curia Regis.
"Of course, sir. What do you want me to do?"
Michael smiled, and explained his plan.
OOC: No, the People's Republic of Dictatoria is not a real nation here at NS. At least, not as far as I know. I need someplace to have the protest.
