OOC: Hello, all! This is just a simple factbook project which I have started to keep the interested people informed about my nation. Not to mention it gives me something to do. It is open for constructive comments.

Facts about the Republic of Mioya

Mioya exists on a large archipelago, in the South Pacific Ocean. The inhabitants are quite heavily intermixed descendants of the locals and white colonists.

Leadership

Formal leadership in Mioya is simple, in some ways almost rudimentary.

• Each of 24 Counties maintains a County Assembly
• Each of the Counties chooses three people to send to the capital every six years, to represent them in the National Assembly
• Every six years the National Assembly elects a President and a Chairman from its legally elected membership
• County affairs are handled primarily by the County Assemblies with issues such as international commerce and defense handled by the National Assembly

Communication

• There are two national radio and television stations, one of each for recreation and more official purposes. There are also growing numbers of private stations limited in broadcast range to regional areas, usually County-sized
• Most telephones are still landline systems, but, cell phones are becoming common in the large cities, and to some degree in the countryside
• Mioya has a national post system, but it is limited mostly to the coasts, being very unreliable the further inland you move. Efforts are being made to correct the issue

Military

• Mioya divides its military forces into three basic levels. First is the Republic Field Force, also known as the Republic Army, about 15,000 soldiers
• In addition to the Army, there is the Republic Navy, about 3,500 men, operating a light force of three destroyers, two frigates, and a replenishment vessel
• Finishing out the first level is the Republic Air Corps, 2,500 men, who operate the light force of 12 fighters, 4 transports, 2 tankers, 6 ASW helicopters and 28 attack helicopters
• Next is the Republic Territorial Force, known as the Territorial Army containing a little less than 4,000 reservist soldiers, determined volunteers, who are trained to a level about equal to the Field Force men
• Finally, in emergencies, each County maintains and trains a force of 500 men who may be called to serve in a County Militia. If necessary, the Republic may call the Militia to serve the Republic in three Militia Brigades of 4,000 soldiers. These are highly capable men when used properly. They will generally avoid stand up fights if possible, mainly preferring to utilize guerilla tactics
