Hurricane Amanda Takes Aim at Kinstantia Coastline

Kinstantia

This is a KBS News Special Report. Reporting from Urlian Beach, Kinstantia is Robyn Thumb.

"Good morning ladies and gentlemen. As you can see as we pan out with the camera that the waves are really kicking up here at Urlian Beach. It's a bright, sunny day here in Urlian Beach. Although the surfers love the weather, forecasters are saying that this is the calm before the storm.

Hurricane Amanda is picking up strength as she moves towards our coastline. We are urgin people to evacuate areas from Port Orlando to Holston Beach. There are too many areas that are below swa level in those areas and we cannot guarantee that everyone will be able to be rescued should the need arise." Said meteorologist Stu Davenport.

Precautionary evacuations are underway here in Urlian Beach. This small town of 7,894 people is virtually a ghost town now as the word spread that Amanda is heading in the general direction. People are resorting to prayer to hopefully move the storm away from the coastline. Besides prayer, looters were out in force trying to stock up on the supplies.

That's all for this special report. Up next is "Beauty and the Feast."

One of the President's aides had just seen the news report. He called President Vladimr Burte, who was realaxing after a days work.
"Sir, thought you might want to know that a hurricane is brewing off the coast of Kinstantia, Hurricane Amanda. The report claims they can't rescue everyone in time."
"Hmm..." the President thought, "How long until it hits? is there enough time to launch an emergancy evac with our helicopters?"
"I'm not sure sir, i'll contact the Kinstantian foreign ministry now and find out."
"OK" the President agreed, "Get back to me as soon as possible."
The president started to redress as his aide dialed the Kinstantian foriegn minister. Ring... Ring... Ring...

At 2am Eastern Kinstantia Time, Hurricane Amanda was located 245 miles East of Urlian Beach. Amanda was moving West-Northwest at 12 miles an hour. Maximum sustained winds were near 165mph, with higher gusts.

The latest forecast track takes the well-defined eye of Hurricane Amanda on a west-northwest track through the next 12 hours. After that, the track becomes less predictable as the high pressure ridge north of Amanda has broken down as a cold front pushes in from the west. The timing of when the frontal boundary will begin to move Amanda more Northwestward and Northward is tricky at best. A slight northward jog could take Amanda into Dariopolis. For this reason, a Hurricane Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning have been issued north of Dariopolis.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Duffy Islands. A Hurricane Warning is in effect along the Kinstantian coast from Port Orlando north to Dariopolis. A Hurricane Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning are in effect from North of Dariopolis northward to Tribeca.

Evacuation orders are in effect for the coastline of Kinstantia from Port Orlando to Tribeca. As of the latest estimate from emergency management officials, nearly 6 million Kinstantians have moved inland.

Amanda is a powerful storm and all precautions to protect life and property should be rushed to completion.

Rainfall amounts of 5-8 inches are possible along the coastline.

The next update will be issued in 3 hours.

Hurricane Amanda Special Report. From KBS News, here is Chet Chester.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Hurricane Amanda is taking aim at the Kinstantian coastline. We have live reporters in the field. We'll start this morning with Thomas Winslow in Dariopolis.

"Thank you, Chet. You can see the waves here are crashing down along the beach here in Dariopolis. The skyscrapers of Downtown Dariopolis are nearly vacant as this city of 2 million people prepare for what could be the worst natural disaster in USK History.

The mayor of Dariopolis ordered the city bus system to assist in evacuating people who were unable to evacuate themselves. Shelters have been opened up in neighboring Dunlap County, a good 20 miles inland.

Also, the Dariopolis Naval Yard has sent the fleet into the Hunlian Ocean as a precautionary move to protect the docks. Also, the large size of the Navy ships assists them in riding the storm out at sea. However, to protect the lives of the sailors, the ships have moved 150 miles north of the projected path of Amanda.

Reporting live from Dariopolis, I'm Thomas Winslow."

"Thank you, Thomas. In Surfer's Cove we go to Kyle Stetser.

"Thanks, Chet. Here in Surfers Cove, everything is quiet. This small, quiet community about 50 miles south of Dariopolis is closed. The 500 or so residents have evacuated and nothing is open, other than the police department, fire department, and ambulance services.

I spoke with Mayor Katie Hunter earlier this morning. She said that she is confident that Surfer's Cove, no matter what happens, will still be the beautiful place it's always been.

Reporting live from Surver's Cove, I'm Kyle Stetser."

"Thanks, Kyle. I want to bring in Meteorologist Robert Waxman. Rob, we've seen our fair share of hurricanes here in Kinstantia, but not one this powerful. At least not for some time.

"Chet, the last time a hurricane this powerful pushed towards our shores was 1956. Hurricane Rachel quickly gained strength as she neared the coast, however, a stalled frontal boundary prevented Rachel from moving inland until the front broke down. By then, Rachel had winds of 90mph and did minimal damage."

"Rob, as we've stated before, people who aren't evacuated prior to the beginning of the storm will essentially be left behind.

"THat's right, Chet. Emergency officials will remain in all cities and towns that have been evacuated, however, once the storm begins and conditions get too dangerous for them to be outside, residents and tourists still trying to ride out the storm will find themselves without any help until the storm passes. That's why the government is urging people to evacuate now. And, there isn't much time left to evacuate before she hits the coast. She is forecast to hit within 24 hours between Urlian Beach and Dariopolis.

"Thanks Rob. We'll be back every hour on the hour with updates as Hurricane Amanda begins to bear down on our coast. We now return you to your regularly schedule programming."

At the Presidential Palace

"Mr. President, there is a call from someone asking for our foreign minister." said a very confused secretary.

"Foreign minister?" replied President Tempest. "Well, I guess I count as that also. Who is it?"

"Someone from the office of President Vladimr Burte from Burtilana." replied the secretary.

"Ok, I'll take the call in the office." President Tempest walked into his private office, sat down at his desk, and picked up the telephone receiver. "Hello, this is President Tempest."

The phone cut out as the aide tried to reply
"Damned storm"
he put the phone down and met with the president in his office, who was now dressed and albeit tired, ready for business
"What news?" Vladimir Burte said
"I couldn't get through Mr. President," the Aide replid, "But, as I called an update came through on the tele box. I think we have about 12hrs."
"I'll get on the phone right away, a company of men will be enroute within the hour, taking just 2hrs to get there, they will have a few hours for airlifts. After then it will be too gusty for even our pilots."
The aide nodded as the president started to call the army cheif.
"I'll go and send the Kinstantians a telegram."
He left the room and went to his office.

Dear Sir/Madam

We ask your permission to send an emergancy evac force of 120 men and 60 helicopters. They will be there within 3hrs and can rescue as many people as possible for the hours before the storm, after which, they can aid the search of survivors.
We thank you.

There are too many to get to. We will accept all the assistance we can get as far as helping to evacuate those who cannot evacuate themselves. We have to warn you that we expect you to make sure your men land those choppers before things get too rough. We are worried about your people as well as ours. Send the helicopters. We appreciate your assistance greatly.

To Feninia:

After the storm has passed, we will accept your assistance. It is greatly appreciated. The weather will become too dangerous along the coast in the next few hours. You can begin to send your aid workers to Keilvarga, our capital city. It's about 2 hours inland and will most likely not get anymore than some gusty winds and some showers.

All three women were of a similar slim build, Imelda had brown hair, Cindy's was black and Charlottes was blond. They did get a lot of jokes about Charlies Angels, but they knew they were the best Feninia had got.

Our pilots fly in these conditions all the time, what with the cyclone weather from November to March in the south east Pacific. the men will stay in the air, until they deem it unsafe for the people they are airlifting, which will be before it is unsafe for the pilots.
After the storm passes, and the helicopters have refuelled, they will bring medical aid and search for survivors.
The company of men shall also come into action and search on the ground, giving direction to the helicopters, and digging through any rubble to trapped persons.

We are awaiting your choppers. Residents wishing to evacuate have been told to gather at the nearest airports. Public transit buses are currently moving those people from the cities to the airports.

You can land at the following airports:

Dariopolis International Airport. We estimate that there are some 71,000 people still in town and about 100,000 in the metropolitan area.

Tribeca Municipal AIrport. Estimates are that about 520 people remain.

Urlian Beach's Robert Huffnagle Airport. Estimates are that 50 people remain.

Holston Beach International Airport. Officials there counted the citizens left there and about 25,000 remain.

Transport all people to Keilvarga International Airport, which is about a 25-40 minute flight by chopper.

At Zinairian Southern Military Facilities, on the south side of the island, they had just gotten the word that the government's aid offer had been accepted. Immediately, officers began rousing naval aviators and sending them to the hangars. Within twenty minutes, the first of the Sea Kings were taking off from the naval base's helipads. Soon, all fifty helicopters, some of which taking off from ships docked at the base, were heading across the Zinairian island and towards Kinstania.

As they approached the country, one of the lead helicopters radioed a Kinstanian control tower.

"This is the Zinairian aid fleet. We're fifty HH-3As approaching from the southeast. Where should we put down to pick up evacuees?"

THis is a Hurricane Amanda Special Report. Reporting this morning from Keilvarga is Chet Chester.

"Hurricane Amanda continues to approach the Kinstantian Coastline. Resue choppers from Zinaire and Burtilana are approaching to help evacuate as many people away from Amanda's path. The lovely nation of Feninia has sent some aid workers to meet with Clay Walker, Director of the Kinstantian Red Cross.

Meteorologist Robert Waxman is here again to give us the latest update on Amanda.

"Chet, things are getting worse. Kinstantian Air Force Recon Planes flew into the eye of Hurricane Amanda about 30 minutes ago. Maximum sustained winds have been increased to 180mph. Also, satellite imagery shows that Amanda is beginning to wobble a little farther north.

THe Kinstantian Weather Service has adjusted the hurricane warning to Tribeca. A Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning are in effect from North of Tribeca to Cape Good Hope. A Tropical Storm Warning up for south of Port ORlando has been cancelled. The Hurricane Warning from Port Orlando to Holston Beach has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning. A Hurricane Warning is now in effect from north of Holston Beach to Tribeca.

"Rob, that's horrible news."

"Chet, you're telling me. The eye is now forecast to strike near Surfer's Cove. That would put the southern half of the Dariopolis Metro area in the most danger. I'll keep you updated as things change.

HURRICANE AMANDA SPECIAL REPORT

"I'm Chet Chester with your Hurricane Amanda report. Right now we go to Thomas Winslow in Dariopolis.

"Thanks, Chet. Zinarian and Burtilana helicopters have been landing at Dariopolis International Airport all morning trying to assist the neatly 200,000 people left in the path of Hurricane AManda. Most of the people left behind have no vehicles of their own. Although Mayor Randy Post ordered the bus service to assist in the evacuation, there are just too many people here in Dariopolis for the bus service alone to evacuate.

Now, as we pan towards the ocean, you can see off in the horizon white-cap waves reaching as high as 55 feet. Above the waves you can see the darkening skies as Hurricane Amanda begins to assault the area. I'm Thomas Winslow in Dariopolis, we now switch you to Kyle Stetser in Surfer's Cove.

"Thanks Thomas. Surfer's Cove, haven to those who dedicate their lives to the art of surfing now lies directly in the path of the eye of Hurricane Amanda. Residents fled the scene over the last 2 days as this hamlet of 564 people is a ghost town.

As we pan the camera back towards the carnival pier, we can see the message written on the hurricane shutters of this house just to our right that say "Amanda, Go Home!"

Police Chief David Simmons spoke with me today and said that he was please with how the evacuations too place in Surfer's Cove and is confident that no matter what, Surfer's Cove will survive. I'm Kyle Stetser in Surfer's Cove, we no go to Robyn Thumb in Urlian Beach

"Thanks, Kyle. Here in Urlian Beach, residents are breathing a bit of a sigh of releif as it seems the worst that Amanda has to offer will most likely being headed about 70 miles north of here. People here in Urlian Beach and the surrounding area are still not taking this storm lightly. With large, battering waves, and a predicted 27 foot storm surge, the locals has no problems making sure they didn't stick around for this one.

Reporting live from Urlian Beach I'm Robyn Thumb, now to Cary Dews in Tristram Beach!

"Thanks, Robyn. Here in Tristram Beach we hold our breaths. Hurricane Amanda continues to wobble about once every hour and people here are anxious. We are about 45 miles North of Dariopolis and it only will take a few northward wobbles for this storm to hit us almost directly.

Residents here are evacuated for the most part. Those sticking around have told me in off camera interviews that they don't think the storm will be that bad.

I'm Cary Dews in Tristram Beach, no back to you, Chet Chester!

"Thanks to all of you for your live reports from the field. Now, let's talk to meteorologist Robert Waxman again.

"Rob, I understand that we have new information about Hurricane Amanda.

"Chet, you are correct. The Kinstantian Weather Service has just issued a new advisory on the storm.

Hurricane Amanda was located about 175 miles SE of Dariopolis. She is moring towards the West Northwest at about 10 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds are still near 180mph with higher gusts.

Winds of Tropical Storm force or greater extend out 165 miles out from the center, winds of hurricane force or greater extend out 100 miles from the center, and winds of greater than 125 miles pers hour extend outward up to 55 miles from the center. This means Amanda is about 330 miles in diameter. So, just because the eye doesn't hit you directly, doesn't mean you won't feel effects.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Port Orlando to Holston Beach. A Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning are in effect from North of Tribeca to Cape Good Hope. A Hurricane Warning is in effect from north of Holston Beach to Tribeca.

The first effects of the winds of Hurricane Amanda will begin within the next 2 hours between Dariopolis and Holston Beach. From then on out, conditions will begin to deteriorate until the storm passes. Residents are urged to stay in doors if you've decided not to evacuate. Chet, now back to you!"

"Thanks, Rob. We'll be back in an hour for minute by minute coverage of Hurricane Amanda. We now return you to "Wheel of Furniture."

At Dariopolis International Airport

"Quickly! Get those Zinairians refuled! Get those citizens on board those choppers while you do it. We don't have time to waste here! Let move it, move it, movie!" Said the gruff 3-Star Army General Maxwell Stockton. "This is not a drill, this is an actual emergency! That damn storm will be here within several hours and we can't let our foreign friends and allies take off in the bad weather!"

Several men raced to the refuling trucks and started speeding off in the direction of the helicopters.

Meanwhile, back in Keilvarga with the Aid Workers from Feninia

"SO, ladies, tell me about yourselves." said Clay as he flashed his pearly whites again.

----------

Keeping you ahead of the storm, live from KBS Headquarters in Keilvarga is Nancy Truman!

"Hurricane Amanda, powerful, unforgiving, and deadly continues to push towards the coastline. International assistance has come to Kinstantia's aid to make sure that the lives of as many people as possible can be spared before this monster storm rakes the coastline.

Chief Meteorologist Peter Patrelli is here with more information about Hurricane Amanda, so let's turn it over to him back in our weather center at our Dariopolis Affiliate!

"Thanks, Nancy! Well. Amanda continues to move in a general west-northwestward direction. Every so often we can see a northwest or northward wobble. This indicates that the frontal system to the west of Amanda is beginning to influence the storm. Because of the sheer power of Amanda, it will take a lot more work to move the storm.

Now, we've been focusing on the effects within 20 miles of the coastline. However, a storm this powerful will still be quite a force to be dealt with inland. The current forecast track takes the eye of Hurricane Amanda into the coastline somewhere between Surfer's Cove and Darioplis. Amanda will continue to push inland, almost following Interstate 21 on a mostly northwest track after landfall. This will take the storm deep into the state of Ordona. After 24 hours, the storm will begin to make a northward turn, taking what's left of Amanda towards the Keilvarga area.

As far as how powerful the storm is far inland depends on how fast it moves. On it's forecast track, it should maintain winds in excess of 130 mph during the first 5 hours inland, then begin to quickly loose its punch from that point on. However, that being said, Amanda is forecast to remain a Hurricane through the first 18-24 hours after landfall. By the time it reaches Keilvarga, it will most likely be a Tropical Storm at best.

Storm surge of 27 feet is predicted with the landfall of Amanda. That will be quite a swatch of water pushing inland as the first 2 miles of coastline are at, or sometimes below, sea level.

Rainfall in excess of 7 inches are possible along the path of Amanda. This means there there is the potential for small stream and urban flooding, and flooding of low-lying areas.

Amanda still is a powerful storm with 180mph winds. Airforce Recon Planes are enroute to the eye of Amanda to give us more on her force. Those reports should be in within the hour. Nancy, back to you in Keilvarga.

"Thanks, Peter. Kinstantian Electric and Natural Gas has stationed crews along the coastline to be the first responders to make sure electricity and gas are restored to customers as fast as possible. Barrier island towns, like Surfer's Cove and Tristram Beach will most likely have power and water cut off prior to the landfall of Amanda to protect the systems.

President Tempest has already declared the coastline under all watches and warnings as Federal Disaster area, and the Kinstantian Emergency Management Agency has their crews on the ground to assist in post storm activities.

The Kinstantia Army and National Guard are also positioned to keep order in the disaster areas, and to also assist in rendering aid to those in need.

Even after the storm passes, many of the evacuees may not be able to return to their homes due to washed out roadways, damages bridges, downed trees and power lines, or flooding.

Our Reporters in the field are currently sleeping, and we will get you more live reports later on during the broadcast.

If you are effected by Amanda, and you need Federal assistance from KEMA, you may contact them at 1-800-GET-KEMA. You may also call the Presidents Disaster Assistant Program at 1-800-TEMPEST.

We'll keep you ahead of the storm here at KBS News. I'm Nancy Truman, reporting from Keilvarga. we'll be back in a few minutes.

"As soon as you're refueled and at capacity, take off for Keilvarga International Airport. The tower says it's about 20-45 minutes from here. Upon arriving, unload your passengers and return here for more. Stand by for further instructions."

The leader switched radio channels so he was speaking with the tower.

Stuck in traffic along Interstate 21, Tyler and his little brother Kevin are trying to flee the path of Amanda from their home near Surfer's Cove.

"Gosh darn traffic!" shouted 14 year old Kevin. "The opened up the interstate to assist in evacuating people, and still it's jammed!"

"Kevin, it happens." replied 22 year old Tyler, "Do you know how many people are trying to leave? Must be millions right now. All 6 lanes of this interstate are open to traffic headed away from the storm, so you know this is gonna take awhile!"

"How far from Surfer's Cove are we?" asked Kevin.

"Um, we're about 15 miles away." replied Tyler.

"I think we should have left yesterday." Kevin moaned.

"Well, yesterday it was Urlian Beach's problem, today it's ours. I didn't think it would come this way. The weatherman said it would hit Urlian Beach. I guess they aren't always right." Tyler said. "Now they say it could move a little farther north and hit Dariopolis head on. They don't know what they are talking about."

"Well, I told you that hurricane would come for us." Kevin said with a sigh. "I just had a feelin. Now, we are stuck on an interstate highway, and will probably be here throughout the storm."

"Nah, we'll be ok." said Tyler in comforting tones.

Over the radio they heard the Emergency Broadcast System alert tone.

"The Kinstantian Weather Service Forecast Office in Dariopolis has issued a Tornado Watch for the following locations: Eastern Ordona State, Eastern Kinstan State, and Northeastern Eldin State. Swirling winds from Hurricane Amanda will interact with the land and cause isolated tornadoes throughout the landfall area. This Tornado Watch is in effect until 4pm tomorrow. Stay tuned to this station for further weather updates as they become available." said the automated voice over the radio.

"Oh great!" shouted Tyler. "Now we have to worry about Tornadoes too? I just want off this interstate!"

"Captain, you are gonna want to take a look at this!" yelled out the radar operator.
"What is it Lt? A storm?" asked the captain, who had been sleeping in his chair.
"Something much worse. There's a massive blotch on the screen, and it keeps appearing, and dissapearing!"
"About how big is that?"
"Somewheres around 3 miles, in the largest point."
"But...But...that's impossible!"
"It may be a ship, but I don't think it is sir."
"Could it be from the storm possibly? A grouping of downed ships?"
"It's too big and seemingly constant...wait...."
As the Captain pulls out his binoculars, the lt gasps in amazement.
"It's....it's....it's an airship!!"

She remembered her beloved city when it didn't even have 50,000 people in it, now it's the third largest city in the nation with almost 2 million residents in the city along, and 4 million more outside it.

"Grandma!" said 19 year old Sean Sanchez, "will we get out ok?"

"I know we will. Our government, and the government of a few other nations are making sure we will." she said relatively convincingly.

The winds in Surfer's Cove were picking up. The latest sustained winds were being clocked at 43mph. A few carelessly left trash cans were blowing around, but for the most part, just branches and street signs were gently rocking in the winds. A far cry from what was about to happen.

The waves were crashing down with intense force along the white sandy beach that made Surfer's Cove Kinstantia's #1 surfing destination.

Surfer's Cove is a small town that actually is named Darlington, but it was dubbed Surfer's Cove by the great surfers of the 1960's, and now, even the city limit signs and welcome signs said SUrfer's Cove. Even the police cars say "Town of Surfer's Cove." The city council had not be able to pass a resolution to rename the town as a few of the "old timers" weren't having it.

Meanwhile, back in Dariopolis, the airport weather station was reporting sustained winds of 38 mph. People were still in the terminals trying to evacuate before Amanda, the unwelcomed guest, made her arrival.

Dariopolis, home to the largest Naval Base in Kinstantia, was ready for the storm outside of the residents still in town. The city sewer system was bolstered by a pumping system that can pump up to one inch of rain per hour. Hopefully, the rains wouldn't be so bad as to back up the pumping system. Dariopolis rests 1 foot below sea level.

--------

Tyler and Kevin had arrived in Trenton, which was about 40 miles inland just up Interstate 21. They pulled into Tyler's girlfriends parents house. Trenton is situated right in the heart of Harnett County. A picturesque town of about 25,000 people. The kind of suburban paradise that middle class people dream about.

Tyler, his brother Kevin, his girlfriend Mandy, and her Parents Thomas and Wilma were watching the news reports on television.

"And now, for the latest from Dariopolis with Thomas Winslow!" said the anchorman on tv.

"The outer rainbands from Hurricane Amanda are beginning to make their way through Dariopolis. With each band, the winds increase a little bit more. Already, we've seen some small trash cans, and a few newspapers blowing around, but the brunt of the storm is still well offshore. We send it to the weather center with Peter Patrelli!" said Thomas Winslow.

"Thank you, Thomas." said Peter. "Hurricane Amanda is still moving towards the Northwest around 12mph. She seems to be picking up a little bit more forward speed, which is a good thing. It means a little less time for the winds and the rains to batter Dariopolis. The maximum sustained winds are still at 190mph as reported by Air Force Recon Planes."

While watching the broadcast, Mandy took Tyler aside in the kitchen.

"So, you think that your house will be ok?" Mandy asked.

"I don't know. I mean, everything that I have that was my Mom and Dad's are in that house. I hope so." Tyler replied with sadness. "You know, last week that drunk driver that killed them was sentenced to death."

"Yeah, I heard." Mandy said as she put her arm around Tyler. "So, mom said you could stay in my room until the storm passes. I mean, she knows that you and I are sleeping together."

"Um," Tyler said with a gulp, "what about your father?"

"Well, he's the one that suggested you stay in my room. He has this thing about a man always has to protect a woman." replied Mandy.

"How, antiquated. However," Tyler said as he put both his arms around Mandy, "tonight, oh boy."

Back in the living room, Kevin intently paid attention to what the weather man was saying.

"And after striking the coastline in about 9 hours, it will head off towards the Keilvarga area as it weakens into a tropical storm. Now, back to Jonathan Roberts in our Keilvarga studios."

This is a Hurricane Amanda special report. Reporting from Dariopolis is Thomas Winslow

"Take a look at those waves! They have to be about 60 feet high out there in the twilight! Hurricane Amanda is making her presence known now. The latest rainbands have brought winds sustained to near 60mph at times and a few gusts over hurricane force.

The rain was coming down at nearly an inch an hour in that latest rainband. AT times the rain was at a 45 degree angle. Now, imagine that 70mph gust multiplied by nearly 4 times and you have a 190mph sustained wind. That's whats in store for us later tonight.

Also, Dariopolis and Harnett County are both under a Tornado Warning for the next 30-45 minutes.

Zinairian, Burtilanan and Kinstantian Air Force copters are frantically trying to evacuate as many people as possible from the area before the hurricane force winds prevent any further take offs.

We now take you to Surfer's Cove with Kyle Stetser."

"Thank Thomas. As you can see here, tree limbs are blowing like matchsticks against these gusts to near 80mph in this band that's just now coming onshore. It's getting hard for me to stand out here in this wind. The rain is just driving in hard feeling like pins being shot at me from a cannon. Ocean water is encroaching on the dune line, and I doubt there will be much beach left once Amanda is done with us. Let's send it back to Peter Patrelli in the Weather Center in Dariopolis!"

"Thanks guys!" said Peter as he sat at his desk "Hurricane Amanda continues to move northwest towards Dariopolis. The western eyewall is becoming visible to our radar and if we draw a line from the eyewall due northwest we can see that the eye will take aim at the southern end of Dariopolis, most likely making landfall at the mouth of the Darion River.

On its projected path, Amanda will strike the coast in about 8 hours, which, unfortunately, coinsides with a lunar high tide. We are expecting a 28 foot storm surge with this storm, which would flood much of Dariopolis. Levies around Dariopolis would definately not hold in this storm, so we're not even hoping they help. THe highest levy is 25 feet tall.

For safety sake, we will begin broadcasting from our studios 25 miles north of here in Kelin. We'll be back in an hour with another update."

Dariopolis International Airport remains closed to all commercial and passenger traffic until further notice. Also, Interstate 21's high rise bridge to Surfer's Cove is now closed to all traffic until further notice. All other high rise bridges within 100 miles of Dariopolis are closed until further notice.

The Zinairian helicopters received the distress call from the KarshkaMax. The leader of Rescue Fleet Bravo muttered something to himself about no rest for the weary then radioed the rest of the Cormorants.

"This is Rescue Bravo One, we will be contacting naval command in order to gain clearance to answer that distress call."

He switched frequencies and called into Zinairian naval command.

"Command, this is Rescue Bravo One, we have received a distress call from a disabled tanker in the area. Requesting permission to send five Cormorants to assist."

The reply came back:

"Permission granted, make it quick."

The leader jumped into action, contacting the tower.

"Tower, this is Zinairian rescue bravo one, five of our choppers will be taking off empty to assist a disabled tanker."

He then sent out a message to the rescue fleet.

"Rescue Bravo 46, 47, 48, 49 and 50, come in. Are you all refueled but without passengers?"

The chorus of "affirmatives" came back from the five pilots.

"You will be responding to that distress call, good luck."

Another chorus, this time of "roger that" came over the radio.

The five helicopters took off, Rescue Bravo 46 radioed the tanker.

"KarshkaMax, come in. This is Zinairian Rescue Bravo 46. Our fleet is in the area assisting with hurricane evacuation. Five Cormorant rescue helicopters are answering your distress call, is there any way you can give us a position?"

------------------------------

This is a KBS News Special Report. From our Keilvarga Studios, here is Chet Chester.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's go directly to our Chief Meteorologist here in Keilvarga, Allison Silverman.

"Thanks, Chet. Hurricane Amanda's rainbands continue to pound the coast of Kinstantia. Sustained winds in Urlian Beach are reported at 50 mph, in Surfers Cove at 85mph, and in Daropolis at 90mph.

Hurricane Amanda continues to move Northwest but has slowed a bit to 9mph. Maximum sustained winds are still near 190mph, with higher gusts. Weather bouy 97887 3 miles northwest of Great Duffy Island reported sustained winds of 201mph for 5 minutes as the eyewall passed directly over the bouy. Air Force Recon Planes are still passing through the eye wall trying to get the most recent winds of the storm.

On the current forecast track, Hurricane Amanda is expected to make landfall near the mouth of the Darion River. This would put Dariopolis directly in the path of Amanda. The storm is expected to continue northwest for about 24 hours before turning northward as a frontal boundary to its west continues to push eastward.

Amanda is forecast to remain a hurricane now as it passes by Keilvarga. No strengthening is forecast, and a possible slight weakening is possible before landfall sometime overnight, most likely within 7 hours.

Tordanoes have been reported in Harnett County and near Dariopolis. Warnings are still in effect for those areas while a Tornado Watch is in effect for the coastline from Urlian Beach to Tristram Beach.

Chet, back to you."

"Thank you, Allison. Our live reporters are on the ground along the coast of Kinstantia, let's take you to Thomas Winslow in Dariopolis."

"Thank you, Chet!" said Thomas as he clung to a telephone pole to not get blown away in the torrential downpour and howling wind. "It's..very...hard...to talk.. at.. times. The wind... it's just howling here. I think.. the latest report....... was 90 sustained. But we've had to have...... gusts to.. near.... 120mph. Part of... the levy...has...already broken. Water is pouring into eastern Dariopolis as the Darion River floods..... Chet, ... back to you"

"Thanks Thomas. Stay safe. Now, let's go to Kyle Stetser in Surfer's Cove. "

"Thanks, Chet. I wanted to show you this" the camera pans to the right showing the spot where the carnival pier used to be. "The carnival pier was taken out about 15 minutes ago when a wave that must have been about 60 feet high crashed down on it. It was such an incredible sight and sound. And as we pan back towards the houses along the beach, you can already see shingles missing, some siding missing, and a small portion of a roof is gone, as well as small shrubs blowing down Ocean Avenue. Hurricane Amanda is arriving, and she isn't being quiet about it. Reporting live from Surfer's Cove, I'm Kyle Stetser."

Tyler, Kevin and Mandy huddled in the basement as the tornado neared their house. Mandy's parents were also in the basement, but also a little drunk so they passed out.

Allison Silverman has just finished her broadcast about Hurricane Amanda. She walked over to the desk in the weather center and began mulling over the data that was sent, minute by minute, to the computer. Suddenly, over the weather printer came an urgent message. Urgent messages always caused a warning box to appear on the main weather computer.

Allison stood up from her desk and walked over to the printer. She grabbed the piece of paper that had just been printed off and began to read it. She realized that once even Amanda was gone, that the hurricane season was far from over.

She began to read the paper.

Tropical Storm Brian Advisory #1
4 July 2008 0930z

At 0900GMT a low pressure center located near 15.9N 42.1W or about 1500 miles ESE of Zinaire City, Zinaire had reached the criteria to be duly classified a Tropical Storm. As such, The Kinstantian Hurricane Center has begun issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Brian. Maximum sustained winds were near 45mph, with higher gusts. Brian was moving towards the west at about 17mph.

Brian is expected to continue moving almost due west for the next 5 days. Tropical Storm Brian is expected to gradually strengthen into a Hurricane by day three with winds of 90mph by the end of the forecast period.

The next advisory on Brian will be issued around 1500GMT.

By now several thousand people had been evacuated, but with time running out, Flight Commander Ash and his CO Flight Commander Charles decided to change tactics.
They wanted to get the most vunurable out first, that meant pensioners and babies, and children.

Flight Commander Charles contacted the control tower.
"Come in tower, This is FC Charles, leader of the Burtilanian rescue force, We wish to change tactics, and get the most vunurable out first, We know this is going to be unpopular, but if you can help move all people between the ages of 16 and 60 into any hurricane or storm shelter you have, and we shall evacuate children with their parents and people over 60. This is because they have less chance of surviving a storm of this maginitude. Thank you"

Until they got a reply all the copters, except Ash's and Charles' carried on evacuating whoever was next in line.

"KarshkaMax, come in. This is Zinairian Rescue Bravo 46. Our fleet is in the area assisting with hurricane evacuation. Five Cormorant rescue helicopters are answering your distress call, is there any way you can give us a position?"

First Officer Dailer hooted for joy when he heard the reply over the speakers. The Captain smiled as the tension on the bridge dropped a level. Relief was un-ashamedly shown on all the faces of the bridge crew.

Captain Hammerick responded with a huge smile on his face, “Zinairi Rescue Bravo 46, I speak for the entire ship when I give you our deepest gratitude. We are currently located...”, the captain checked the maps of the area and gave a position to the south, southeastern edge of the sub-continent, “we appreciate your efforts and will have our two helipads lit and ready for your arrival. I do want to warn you that the wind has picked up in the past hour as have the seas.”

While the Captain spoke to the incoming rescuers, First Officer Dailer began to issue orders across the ship to the crew, telling them to prepare to abandon ship when the in-bound choppers arrived. No personal items of any significant weight would be allowed (basically anything heavier than a laptop computer) to keep the helicopters from being weighed down. His eyes drifted over the ship’s near kilometer (998 meters to be exact) length and 50 meter draft then came to rest on the 70,000 square meters of deck which lay under him and he found it hard to believe that two torpedoes so tiny compared to the massive ship, could kill her so effectively. He just shook his head in disgust.

Not soon after the Captain had ended his communications with the rescue choppers, another voice broke over the radio.

"KarshkaMax, this is Commander Lynn Flint, Kinstantian Navy, tell us what happened! The whole of the Kinstantian Navy is sitting in the ocean, not far from your location, and none of our submarines, destroyers, frigates, carriers, nothing detected any Unidentified vessels."

Before Captain Hammerick could respond, Captain Yury Vladimiro of the Odin responded. "Commander Flint, this is Captain First Rank Yury Vladiomiro of the Karshkovian Navy Udaloy-class destroyer Odin assigned to escort the KarshkaMAX on her voyage to the nation of Stoklomolvi. I am unsure of your navy's capabilities, however as an ASW Warship I find it difficult to admit, comrade, that we had trouble detecting the attack until it was too late. Perhaps it was our approaching your naval ships that pushed the sub captain to attack when he did, over 200 miles off your coast. Sonar contact was intermittent and the submarine stayed deep until just before the attack. Afterward, it dove deep very quickly and we lost her after it passed below 500 meters. It was an Akula using wake-homing torpedoes...most likely Type 65's... which means the submarine is as a newer Improved Akula or Akula II boat. Given this, it is understandable that it was not detected by your naval ships who were further beyond the 15,000 meter range our ASW package was able to detect it at.

In any event, by the authority granted me by the Karshkovian Naval Command, I wish to request medical assistance for 120 wounded survivors from our sister ship, the Sovremenny class destroyer Intrepid which was sunk just a few hours ago in this attack. We do not have the medical facilities available to treat all our wounded. Will you help us?"

Captain Hammerick added to the message after the Destroyer Captain had finished, "Commander, I do not wish to alarm you but the KarshkaMAX is headed for a shallow area just off your southern coast. We do not know if it is a coral reef or other land mass, however it doesn't matter at this point. The attack has destroyed our starboard shaft and probably the propeller as well. Our rudder is not responding and my engineering team is telling me that the linkages to control that rudder are destroyed. There is no way internally to bypass the damage, as it means cutting into the hull above and below the waterline, and the seas are growing too rough to have a diver try an external repair....we lost one man trying and another was nearly lost making the attempted repairs. I hate to be the bearer of bad news Commander but if this ship is sunk or runs aground, there is a risk that our 168 million gallons of crude oil is going to be released near your shores...and with that hurricane bearing down on us....well...I just thought you deserved to know the facts, Commander."

"Any word on strength?"

"Looks like it could be upgraded to hurricane status. From the direction it's moving it could very likely swing our way."

"We best keep an eye on it. What are the odds it would from a Complete Trail?"

"Odds are favorable given current wind and jet stream conditions. At the least it will clip Aurora and possibly Hoshino. But worst it will hit all of us again."

"We are in season."

"Should we post a message?"

"Maybe not, if we keep getting everyone riled up about hurricanes, we'll lose the few embassies we have."

"This building is built to withstand a Devastating hurricane."

"We got lucky with the last one, it wasn't as strong as we had predicted and it weakened as it moved over the islands. It was a glorified monsoon. Plus we weren't fully in season yet. Now we are."

"Well we shouldn't get too pessimistic. It could just hit one or two, or even spin off with out touching us."

"Let's keep our eyes peeled Pacifica."

OOC: Karshkovia, at your current position the helicopters won't be able to reach you for about five hours. They're taking off from Dariopolis (its RL equivalent is Ft. Lauderdale) and the position you gave is about 150 miles south of New York (by my estimation). If you were headed for South Carolina or Georgia (still talking RL reference points, of course), then we could reach you in 2-3 hours. Those coasts also have some reefs of something, it looks like. So, you can edit your post so it's closer or you can leave it and I'll probably cancel the mission and leave you to the mercy of the medical ship.

Zinairian Weather Institute Headquarters, Belle-Côte

Meteorologist Andrew Hyde had just received news of Tropical Storm Brian. He called his supervisor over.

"Sir, there's a report of a tropical storm 1500 miles to the east of us moving in."

He showed the senior meteorologist his screen where he had a satellite image showing the tropical storm and Zinaire. He traced a line west with his finger.

"The storm's going to come across like this. Before it reaches us, it'll have to go through the Eastern Caribbean island chain which may slow or stop it. Even if it doesn't though, the storm will come ashore on Zinaire in this section here."

He indicated the wide section of land covering almost half of South Zinaire that had only jungle in it.

"Even if it does hit us, it will have to go over miles and miles and miles of jungle to get to Tiamona. I think we're safe on this one."

(ooc: I modified my posts to set her up nearer to the Caribbean waters. From what I gathered, the ship should be less than 50km from the shore but traveling at ~16kph it should take about ~3 hours or so before it runs aground somewhere near 'florida'. The hurricane would hit the ship in full force about an hour or two after she would run aground.)

KarshkaMax come in over. Repeat KarshkaMax come in over. This is the medical ship Caridd. We are coming to your assistance and will assist all wounded. The Captain was glad there were rescuers on their way, however he was unsure if the Caridd captain was joking or serious in his comment about the oil. "Medical Ship Caridd, this is KarshkaMAX. We'll take any help we can get, but all the wounded would be on our destroyer escort the Odin. While we also appreciate your willingness to take on some of the oil, KarshkaMAX doesn't store it in 'barrels' as I believe you are thinking (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/16/Oil_tanker_%28side_view%29.PNG/800px-Oil_tanker_%28side_view%29.PNG). OOC: Okay, good. And I think Caridd was planning to fill all their catheter bags with oil.

"KarshkaMAX, this is Rescue Bravo 46, that's good news for both of us. We're almost at your position already. ETA is in twenty minutes. Hang in there."

Twenty Minutes Later

Rescue Bravo 46 radioed the rest of the tanker rescue detachment.

"Rescue Bravo 47, you and I will be setting down on the helipads to load up first."

"Roger that."

"The rest of you, I hope you're ready to earn your paycheck today. You'll be doing hoist extractions until we're all loaded up and have cleared the helipads for you."

"Roger that." Came back the reply from the other three helicopters.

Each Cormorant had two rescue technicians onboard who were trained in hoist extractions. Those on Rescue Bravo 48, 49 and 50 strapped themselves into the hoist.

"KarshkaMAX, this is Rescue Bravo 46, clear the helipads, we're almost there."

Battling the winds, Rescue Bravo 46 and 47 landed on the ships helipads and prepared to receive the evacuees. Hovering above the deck, rescue techs lowered themselves from the other three helicopters.

Meanwhile, back in Kinstantia.....

Hurricane Amanda was sparing no punches. Rainband after rainband crashed on shore as the powerful Hurricane steadily moved northwest towards the coastline.

In Dariopolis, winds were now sustained at the airport at 95mph and gusts were as high as 120mph. Rain poured down, and combined with the winds, it almost looked like the rain was coming down sideways. The eye of Hurricane Amanda was only a few hours from coming on shore on the southside of Dariopolis. As the storm approached, water was crashing through the broken levy near downtown Dariopolis. The airport, however, wasn't flooding. It's flood walls were secured.

Over in Surfers Cove, some 50 miles away from Dariopolis to the south, winds were sustained around 75mph with gusts to near 100mph. Water covered almost the entire shoreline and the dunes looked like they were soon to be over taken by the rising water. What boardwalk there was in Surfer's Cove wa splintered by the waves.

The winds of Hurricane Amanda were powerful. Glass windows from the skyscrapers of downtown Dariopolis were breaking as tree limbs and debris of all sorts slammed into them as shards of glass crashed onto the streets below. At Dariopolis International Airport, the weather reporting station was reporting sustained winds of 120mph with gusts pushing 145mph.

Down in the terminals, several thousand people remained as they couldn't be rescued in time. The sound of the howling wind resonating throughout the terminals was deafening at times.

Shirley Sanchez and her grandson, Sean, were huddled near the baggage claim area. The sound of objects crashing into the walls could be heard from all around.

"Grandma," Sean asked, "you think these windows are going to hold? I mean, I've seen tree branches the size of telephone poles slamming into them."

"Sean, I sure hope so. If those windows break, we're screwed." Shirley replied.

Meanwhile, back in Trenton, Tyler and his girlfriend were in her room.

"This storm is getting terrible." Tyler said as he took his shirt off.

"I know, but at least it's not as bad here as it is in Dariopolis." Mandy replied as she crawled into bed. "I mean, the wind can't be any stronger than a normal thunderstorm right now. So, let's stop worrying about the storm, and get your skinny ass in bed with me."

Tyler get into the bed next to his girlfriend, they turned off the lights.

Back in Surfer's Cove

Kyle Stetser, the young, cute, new news reporter for KBS News in Dariopolis was inside the hotel were the crew was stationed to ride out Hurricane Amanda. He'd just come inside from taking a wind reading with his hand held anemometer. Sustained winds were about 100mph and gusts were around 120mph. Kyle walked upstairs to his second floor room. A cell phone could be heard ringing in his pocket.

"Hello?" said Kyle. "Oh, Bill, it's you....... in five minutes?...... yeah, I'll get my poncho and head outside with the camera crew........... Thomas, then me, then back to the studio........ 45 seconds?....... ok." Kyle hung the phone up.

He walked into his room, grabbed his poncho and knocked on the door across the hall from his. A man that could only be described as the last remaining hippy appeared from the room, which smelled like reefer. "Yeah, man, we rollin?" he asked

"I don't know about rollin, but I know you're flyin!" Kyle said with a smile. "Be downstairs in 5 minutes. " And with that Kyle turned and walked downstairs.

The aging hippy came walking down the stairs, camera in hand, smoking a cigarette at the same time. His torn jeans and wife beater tank top just looked like they hadn't been washed since last year's hurricane season. Timothy Preston, however, was one of the best news cameramen in the business.

He walked outside, under the awning that was their only shielding from the rain. Blocking the view of the water was a large, wooden fence which was still holding in the storm. It helped block the winds from knocking them around. From the ocean, the sounds of the waves crashing like a thousand pounds of metal could be heard.

"So man, like, stand here, facing the town, with the fence behind you. It'll keep the wind and rain off of you better than this awning." Timothy said.

"I like it." Kyle replied as he stood in position.

"Ok man, like Bill said we go live in 5...4...3..." Timothy said as he motioned 2 and one to Kyle.

"Thanks, Thomas!" Kyle said with a smile into the camera. "We've found a somewhat safe place to stand to keep broadcasting live from outside here in Hurricane Amanda."

Suddenly, the wind just roared loudly, and the sound of cracking wood could be heard as the wooden fence broke free and slammed into the back of Kyle's head, knocking him into the camera, and knocking Timothy off into the brick wall. The wind relentlessly blew in from the ocean as Kyle tried to stand back up.

BLAM! A loud thud was hear above as a tree branch slammed into the glass windows above where they were standing. Shards of glass rained down on the two men. From the ear pieces of both men, Bill kept asking if everything was alright in the frantic way that only a news producer could.

Timothy stood up the best he could, bleeding from being cut by glass, but alive. He looked over where Kyle was laying. A large shard of glass was imbedded in Kyles neck, and blood just poured profusely. Kyle wasn't even moving. As the wind let up a bit, he managed to move over towards Kyle. Kyle wasn't breathing.

"Call EMS! He's bleeding, he's not breathing! GET A DOCTOR!" Timothy cried.

From inside the hotel, the frantic screaming could barely be heard over the wind. People rushed to where the newsmen were broadcasting, and saw the bloody scene. An elderly man came walking outside.

"I'm a doctor. Dr. Edward Barnes." He said as he walked outside. He cautiously walked over to where Kyle was laying. He saw the glass sticking out of Kyle's neck, and the large pool of blood below it.

"Is he ok, doc?" asked a tearful Timothy. The doctor didn't reply. He checked for a pulse. None. He checked for breathing, none.

The doctor called 9-1-1 on his cell phone, but got no reply. The doctor carefully started examining Kyle's neck, and noticed that there was a part of a vein sticking out of the cut. The doctor just closed his own eyes and turned away.

"What is it, Doc?" asked Timothy.

"His jugular has been cut. He's not breathing, and he doesn't have a pulse. There isn't much we can do here. I'm afraid he's dead."

The Burtilanian Rescue Team all huddled around moniters from within the helicopters, a few engineers had managed to fiddle with them enough for them to receive the news reports from a makeshift ariel. They watched in awe at te destruction they were to deal with in half a day or so. Some men still prayed, the more sceptical had given up, knowing tha the chance of finding many survivors would be small.
The Chinooks would fly in from the south and land close to the southern coast for until Amanda had passed, it was too dangerous to fly further inland.

Hurricane Amanda continued pressing towards the coastline. Howling - nay, screaming winds ripped through Dariopolis. They eye of Hurricane Amanda was coming close. Sustained winds at the weather reporting station at Dariopolis International Airport were recorded at 165mph, with gusts to near 200 mph. The scene around the fourth largest city in Kinstantia was utter destruction, and the worst was just off shore.

At the Airport, Shirley and her Grandson Sean had moved towards the ticketing booths as the windows were cracking under the pressure of flying objects. Every so often a blue flash could be seen in the distance as transformers blew as telephone poles were being knocked down like matchsticks.

Suddenly a very bright, blue flash occurred outside the window nearest them and the airport was flung in to utter darkness. Within a minute, the flood lights came back on.

In the control tower, which was rocking slightly under the pressure, the air traffic controllers were monitoring their computer screens. They had back-up generators to make sure they could still monitor any nearby air traffic. One man, Earl Graves, was watching radar.

The eye of Amanda, though compact, was headed almost right for the airport. In his best estimate, they had maybe one hour before it hit the coastline. The weathermen were right. It was on a bee line for the mouth of the Darion River.

Back in Trenton, Tyler and Mandy were holding each other after their moments of passion. They could hear the roaring winds and see the trees beginning to bend. The winds were near 90mph there.

From downstairs they could hear Kevin, Tylers younger brother, screaming. Tyler jumped up out of bed, put on some boxer shorts, and ran downstairs.

"Whats wrong, Kevin?" Tyler said as he entered the living room.

Kevin just pointed at the window. Tyler moved towards the window and looked out and saw something he had never seen before. The roof of the house across the street was blowing off and chunks were headed towards the house. Tyler quickly grabbed Kevin and pulled him into the bathroom, at the same time calling for Mandy to come downstairs to safety.

With a thud, Mandy bounced down the steps and follow Tyler and Kevin. Mandy's parents had become concerned and had headed off to the local shelter. Tyler Mandy and Kevin decided to wait out the storm.

The whole house started shaking as a ferocious wind gust barreled through the neighborhood. The sound of crashing could be heard from the living room as the tall pine trees in front of the house began to become uprooted. The big one in front of the living room crashed onto the house.

The door to the bathroom flung open as nearly 110mph winds raced into the house. The roof ripped off of the walls, exposing the three to the force of Amanda. Kevin was panicking, Mandy was crying, and Tyler was thinking.

Down in Surfer's Cove, Kyle's body was dragged inside. The 22 year old lay dead in the lobby of the hotel. Timothy was crying at the tragic loss of such a cool person. Both Timothy and Dr. Barnes were covered in blood from moving Kyle.

Over in Keilvarga, the President awaited any news from the state of Ordona. But none was to be heard as the storm was still tearing into the ocean side towns and cities. President Tempest paced back and forth in his office as he heard the weather reports over the television that the worst was yet to come.

At the KBS Headquarters in Keilvarga, the news department was quiet. All live reports from the storm were canceled until further notice. Having one of their reporters killed by Hurricane Amanda, live on air, was a sobering experience for them. Kyle's family was already there, speaking with the CEO of KBS, Herbert Walker.

Back in Dariopolis, Thomas Winslow was mourning the loss of his colleague and friend. He was nearly inconsolable as the two were inseparable. They had become best friends at the Keilvarga studios from the moment Kyle walked in. They were both young and full of life.

One hour later in Dariopolis

190mph winds reached the city. Buildings were crumbling under the pressure of the winds, the eye wall was coming on shore. the 28 foot storm surged turned into a 30 foot storm surge. The first 10 miles inland was completely flooded. Those people left behind were essentially gone. Dead bodies began floating on top of the flood waters. The scene was one of total destruction.

At KBS Studios in Keilvarga, the news cast was in full swing.

"Mark it, 3:42am, July 4, 2008. Hurricane Amanda makes landfall at the mouth of the Darion River. Let's all pray for those still in the path of this storm." Said Meteorologist Lynn Swan.

In Surfer's Cove, the motel where Kyle Was staying was dark. Winds of 145mph were howling. The storm surge had flooded everything around and the sand bags were holding, for now.

In Trenton, 115mph wind gusts were terrifying Tyler, Mandy and Kevin as the storm raged around them with no protection. They huddled in the bathtub with whatever towels they could find to cover themselves.

At Dariopolis International Airport, the scene was much the same. Flood waters surrounded the airport. Sandbags kept much of the water out, but portions of the roofs were failing in the terminals. People were panicked, but still alive. Shirley huddled with her grandson.

Then, nothing. The wind stopped. The rain too. The eye of Hurricane Amanda was passing over head. There was maybe 20 minutes before it began again, but for now, it was quiet.

OOC: I've been without internet access (at work) for the past 14 hours, so sorry if this is a little screwy chronologically. Just pretend it works.

All of Rescue Fleet Alpha was now safely on the ground but the 45 helicopters of Rescue Fleet Bravo that were still helped hurricane evacuees felt like they were being chased by the storm as they sped towards Keilvarga.

For Rescue Bravo 38, fate was making things especially difficult. One of the rescue techs heard a loud cracking noise. Sticking his head into the wind, he looked out the bay doors and saw a large crack forming across the tail rotor housing. (OOC: rotor cracking like this is an actual problem on this kind of helicopter and downed a British one a while back). Trying not to distress the passengers, he explained what he saw to the pilot to land the helicopter anywhere he could. The pilot nodded grimly and radioed the fleet.

"Rescue Fleet Bravo, this is Rescue Bravo 38, we are going down, I repeat, we are going down. Get helicopters out here pronto to bring us in. I don't care if they're ours, just get them out here."

"Roger that." Came the reply from Rescue Bravo One.

"Tower, this is Zinairian Rescue Bravo One. We have a bird down with fifty crew and passengers. We need you to send out helicopters to pick them up pronto."

Meanwhile, on Rescue Bravo 38, one of the rescue techs was telling the passengers the situation.

"The casing of our tail rotor has developed a crack. We won't be able to make it to Keilvarga so the pilot is looking for somewhere to put us down before we crash. Rescue choppers are coming to pick us up."

The pilot indicated that they were about to land.

"Brace yourselves for landing, everyone."

A couple seconds later, the helicopter hit the ground heavily and the bottom of the craft could be felt crumpling.

"Help should be arriving in just a couple minutes. We're all going to be all right."

OOC: Other nations are free to step in and send their helicopters to rescue them (all fifty of them, mind) or if no one does, we'll rescue them in the next post.

Meanwhile, the ZMS Seraph, a Zinairian hospital ship, was making its way towards Kinstantia and a fleet of Globemasters carrying supplies were prepared to take off as soon as the storm had passed.

“Jujuburghia Kids Can” Campaign Launched to Aid Amanda Victims

The Jujuburghian Ministry for Education today announced the “Jujuburghia Kids Can Campaign” to encourage students and educators to collect donations for victims of Hurricane Amanda.

“Today I'm calling on students and educators to join "JUJUBURGHIA KIDS CAN: Collecting Pennies (and More) for the Victims of Hurricane Amanda," said Minister Ephraim Eltayeb. “This is a voluntary, nationwide initiative to collect money to help with humanitarian aid.”

"I am heartened by the many students and educators who have already 'rolled up their sleeves' and pitched in donating money and materials for the hurricane victims. My own Ministry staff joined the effort and raised 6,327 Bears for bottled water donations," noted Minister Eltayeb. "Much has already begun, no effort is too small as the needs are great."

"We are asking schools to let my office know what they are doing and we will be giving public appreciation and recognition for their efforts," said Minister Eltayeb. "The campaign is simple and direct. I know I can count on Jujuburghia kids to help out."

Aboard the KarshkaMAX the crew watched the helicopters descend from the sky, buffeted by the growing winds.

As Rescue Bravo 46 and 47 settled on the helipads set far out on the edges of the top of the superstructure, a few of the men and women of the crew loaded onto the helicopters in an orderly fashion, while others gathered to be winched up to the other hovering rescue helicopters.

Captain Hammerick watched as the First Officer oversaw the evacuation, bawling out orders on his walkie-talkie to department heads, who in turn were talking to crew managers who were keeping the crew calm during the evac.

The small regular army unit stationed on the KarshkaMAX had already been dispatched to the Odin an hour before to help with the wounded until the medical ship arrived.

When the first helicopters had landed and were ready to lift off, Ben Dailer turned to Captain Hammerick, "How long until she runs around"?

"One hour, give or take a few minutes," the Captain said, without looking at his wrist watch.

"Do you think we will all be evacuated by then, Sir?"

"At this pace, I see no reason why it would still be here, one way or another."

Ben looked over at his Skipper, "Why, I would think it would make a difference. Leaving means we live to see another day, staying means we possibly die in an explosion or fire when this ship runs aground."

Captain Hammerick sighed as if the weight of the world was about to collapse on his shoulders and there was nothing he could do about it.

"Ben, when this ship runs aground, it will be the worse tanker spill in history. Sixteen times the Exxon spill...Our names will be in the papers as the command crew. Everyone will be playing, "Monday Morning Quarterback", second guessing what we should have done. Boards of inquiry we will sit though for the next five years, the civil lawsuits, the papers and television shows that will slander our names, to the point we will never be employable again."

The Captain pointed to the crew waiting to be rescued, "None of them will be blamed, nor will their names be in the paper. They will go on with their lives as if nothing happened...except a few who will brag in a bar or to family that they lived through a submarine torpedo attack."

"Captain, how is our fault? We were attacked! We didn't do anything to provoke this! I just don't see how-"

"Ben, it doesn't matter who is to blame or not. When this oil hits open water and the entire eco-system in this region is damaged...or even destroyed...for the next twenty to thirty years, of course we will be blamed because we were at the controls. Ben, you think the media hounds will rather run a story of a submarine that damaged the ship six hours ago and have no picture to run when they tell the story, or do you think they are going to say, "After a torpedo attack crippled their ship, Captain Hammerick and his First Officer Ben Dailer, had six hours to figure out a way to gain back their steering and get their vessel pointed away from shallow water. Let's post up a picture of each of them and say they were to blame. Sure the sub attacked them but they had lots of time to figure something out...right?" Just think Ben...you know it and I know this is what is to be of our lives from this moment forward. And you know the worst thing? This hurricane is going to strike the tanker and crude oil will be carried up through the waves and high tide onto the land. Just wait until that oil is under a downed power line or finds an open flame... Remember the Tora Valley spill about 23 years ago? 12.5 million gallons of crude oil were released along the Servainian coast. It completely ruined the fishing grounds off their coast, coated their beaches with crude oil for over 200 kilometers. The Servainians still haven't recovered, and 5 known local species of wildlife were made extinct. What do you think 168 million gallons will do to Kistantia? What do you think their government and their people will want to do with US?"

Ben felt uneasy. He didn't want to believe his Captain, but he had seen how the world treated people and this was exactly what they probably would do.

"I think I am going to be sick."

The Captain looked over at his First Officer's frightened eye, "On the bright side, your mug will be all over in newspapers and TV shows. I'm sure some young thing will see your mug and probably fall madly in love. Hah! Come, let us find a helicopter and let come what may."

One hour later

The KarshkaMAX's grounding was serene, almost tranquil. The reef she hit was at the edge a sea-cliff, where the ocean bottom rises from over 200 meters to less than 10 meters in a very short distance. The rougher seas slowed her to under 14 knots before she hit the bottom, but that was still enough potential energy built up to send the massive ship far up the reef. At a distance above the water, everything seemed peaceful. On board, the sound of thousands of nails scratching against a blackboard battered the inside of the ship. Items were thrown from their place. Dishes crashed against the walls in the galley, and on the bridge the Captain's forgotten coffee mug fell to the floor where it smashed into many pieces, spraying lukewarm coffee around and empty bridge.

As a credit to the engineers that designed her, the first hull held up against the battering it took rather well. It wasn't penetrated until the ship had traveled about 150 meters through the shoals. Rock and coral were ripped up from the reef and tossed away from the ship. Fish and ocean creatures of all sorts fled before the titanic intruder came too close and returned after it had past.

When the water depth reached less than 8 meters the primary hull started pealing back exposing the secondary hull to the reef. This hull was not designed to take the same punishment that the primary had been so it was penetrated almost immediately. It stripped away nearly immediately, leaving the third and final hull to deal with the ocean's bottom. Surprisingly, the third hull was able to last the longest, but even it had limits which were reached when the ship was approximately 700 meters into the shoal. Acres upon acres of the ship's hull were pealed away and left behind in it's wake, and left the ship looking as if some had cut away the bottom of the tanker.

No one that had built the great ship envisioned what was about to happen, so no precautions had been taken to prevent it. There was no slow leak or single compromised compartment that was releasing oil. Every storage tank on the ship had been literally stripped of it's bottom, and was now vented to the sea. In one moment in time, the entire 168 million gallons of crude oil being carried by the KarshkaMAX hit the ocean floor and trailed behind the dying ship marking it as mortally wounded. As the water depth reached six meters, the great ship quickly lost momentum and it slowly came to rest just over 1 kilometer from were it first ran aground. For thirty minutes, oil raced out of holes in the side of the tanker, were the hulls had ripped on the sides of the ship...some holes nearly the size of the Odin.

167 million gallons of crude were in the water when fumes on the ship were ignited by an electrical spark from a fallen high-pressure sodium vapor light used to illuminate the ship's deck . An enormous fireball ripped from the deck skyward, followed quickly by two more explosions of highly flammable oil fumes. Those humans crazy enough to be outside as the edge of the hurricane hit, 90 miles to the south of KarshkaMAX could see the northern part of their sky light up as if the sun had broken through the clouds, just for an instant, and then left a reddish-pink glow which slowly faded away.

Three kilometers away, on the Odin, Captain Vladimiro was out on the decking, watching his escort through binoculars when the ship exploded. The searing light made him instinctively throw his arm up to protect his face and even at the distance of the Odin the heat of the fire warmed his exposed flesh as if it were a noon day sun on a cloudless summer day. The shockwave that followed seconds later struck the ship with a gust of over-pressured air, ringing against the hull furiously, though no real damage was done. Trees near the shoreline, however, were either completely uprooted or had their trunks snapped near the ground. They were all stripped of their branches and leaves.

Though fires consumed oil still inside the ship and on the surface surrounding the vessel, the hurricane's growing wind and driving rain soon started and quenched the fires on the ocean before they could burn off more than half a million gallons of crude oil. The fire inside the great ship raged on out of control. The million gallons of oil trapped inside the ship burned hot, expelling great plumes of thick black smoke from the holes in the decking of the ship. The oil outside the ship to a distance of 700 meters literally extended all the way down to the ocean's bottom and it was still extending as a wall of oil, as the slick had not had a chance to expand very far and start thinning out.

And now the Natural Disaster, Hurricane Amanda was about to strike the Man-Made Disaster, the 167 million gallons of crude oil spilled from the KarshkaMAX....

The five helicopters carrying the tanker crew were racing towards the safety of Keilvarga.

"It'll just be a couple more minutes." The pilot of Rescue Bravo 48 told his passengers.

Eight minutes later, the helicopters touched down amid high winds and news of a crashed Cormorant. Two Sea Kings had been sent to the scene and would arrive to rescue the crash victims.

Rescue Bravo 38: Crash Site

"Rescue Bravo 38, come in. This is Keilvarga tower, choppers are on their way. If you can, send up a flare."

"Roger that. Flare's heading up."

The pilot pulled a flare gun off his jumpsuit and jumped out of the cockpit. He fired the flare straight up.

Soon the downed evacuees and airmen could hear helicopters approaching and moments later, two Sea Kings came into view. Struggling against the wind, the helicopters landed and opened the doors.

"You'll have to squeeze in, we're only supposed to be carrying 44 between us."

Grateful for any ride, however cramped, the crash victims climbed aboard the two helicopters.

They arrived at Keilvarga to cheers.

In Keilvarga, the winds were whipping as a weakening Amanda continued to press inland. Reports from Dariopolis and Surfer's Cove were almost non exsistant at this point, and the people of Keilvarga, the nations largest city, were apprehensive at best.

The latest weather reports say that Hurricane Amanda has sustained winds of 120mph, with gusts to near 145mph and will pass almost directly over Keilvarga later tonight with winds of 90mph.

Meanwhile, back in Dariopolis....

The storm was slowly passing. Sustained winds were around 100mph with higher gusts on the western side of town.... 80mph on the eastern side of town. The water that had piled onto the beaches was forced back into the ocean as the winds were now coming in from the southwest.

Hurricane Amanda was moving inland away from the coast. Within a few hours, search, rescue and recovery operations would begin to search for the nearly 1 million Kinstantians between Surfer's Cove and Tristram Beach that weren't evacuated prior to landfall.

This is a KBS News Special Report. Reporting from Keilvarga is Chet Chester.

Good day, Kinstantia. Hurricane Amanda pushes into Keilvarga today. High winds, and heavy rain have shut down the Capital City today. However, this storm is much weaker than it was.

The reports coming out of Surfer's Cove is one of complete and total destruction. Few buildings are still standing and those that are standing are severely damaged.

In Dariopolis, KBS News Helicopter pilot Jack Johnson said that the city was in ruins. We spoke with im via phone a few minutes ago:

"Chet, this is Jack Johnson, and I'm not seeing anything that tells me that anyone could have lived through this storm. There are dead bodies floating on the flooded Darion River while many neighborhood are simply gone. Downtown Dariopolis fair relatively well, but the glass from every skyscraper is gone. Some buildings are mearly just shells now. I... I.. cannot even fathom what people went through here"

That was an emotional Jack Johnson. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

At Dariopolis International Airport, the winds had calmed. The storm had passed. Broken windows were everywhere. Parts of the roof were missing. People looked like they had been in a wind tunnel. It was strangely quiet. Everyone was in shock.

Back in Trenton,Tyler, Mandy and Kevin emerged from the tub. Tyler walked around and looked at the place where the house used to stand and started crying. Mandy did as well. Kevin, on the other hand, thought that it was the coolest thing ever. 14 year olds, go figure.

In Surfers Cove, the severely damaged hotel that housed the KBS crew was also silent. Kyle's body lay wrapped in sheets, awaiting any emergency response team to come. Dr Barnes called the local hospital from his cell phone, but they said that it could take hours, if not days, before they could get towards the beach as most of the roads were either washed out or covered with too much debris.

All over the effected areas of the coastline, teams of Kinstantian Electric and Natural Gas, Kinstantian Telephone Corporation, The USK National Guard, KEMA, and any available bulldozer, backhoe, dump truck, you name it was swarming into the areas destroyed by the storm.

In Keilvarga, Amanda, in her weakened state, knocked out power to 75% of the city, caused moderate damage, but that was the worst of it.

Amanda started moving northward, and was downgraded to a Tropical Storm as it became embedded within a frontal boundary pushing eastward. It would only be a few hours and the Storm of the Century would only be a memory.

However, all eyes were now on Hurricane Brian. The forecasters say this one will stay at sea and not effect land.

The helicopter engines roared loudly as they reached their destinations. As BSR 2 & BSR 4 approached their locales, BSR 1, BSR 3 & BSR 5 all touched down at the remains of Dariopolis Airport, the 144 soldiers started to off load the equipment and set up a medical base for all aid workers and helicopters in the area.
The other soldiers on the other helicopters would have to do this also when they touch down.
Once most of the equipment was unpacked, 21 of the soldiers, all with some medic training, began seeing to the wounded at the airport. Loud speakers started to play uplifting music, with a frequent break in of a voice calling for all the wounded and dead to be taken to Dariopolis International.
The Combat Search and Rescue helicopters of BSR 1 took the north and eastern side of the city, designated 'A1', the Combat Search and Rescue helicopters of BSR 3 took the south and eastern side of the city, designated 'A2.' Whilst the Combat Search and Rescue helicopters of BSR 5 took the western side of the city, designated 'A3.'
Two helicopters in each group carried loud speakers, playing the same as the ground based speakers, they all began searching for any survivors who were emerging from there derelict buildings. The 123 remaining aid workers split into 3 groups of 41, went to each of the areas and began searching offices and homes, one by one.

His neighborhood wasn't flooded, but all the trees, telephone poles, street signs, were pretty much flattened. The city looked like a war zone.

Mr. Williams, along with many people still trapped in the city, started coming out of their homes. Within 5 minutes, there were about 100 people in this neighborhood on the Southwestern side of Dariopolis.

Surfer's Cove, Ordona

The city was almost completely gone. Not one structure was left undamaged. As a matter of fact, 95% of every structure was gone. Hurricane Amanda killed Surfer's Cove. Luckily, there were very few people in town.

Interstate 21, which starts in Surfer's Cove, goes to Dariopolis, then Northwest into Keilvarga and beyond, was closed down. Trees and light poles littered the 6-lane highway, and portions of bridges, overpasses and roadways were washed away.

Trenton, Ordona

Tyler searched for clothes. He was, after all, still in his boxershorts. His girlfriend was wrapped in a few soaked towels because she too was in her underwear. Kevin, on the other hand, began wondering where Mandy's parents were and if the shelter had made it through the storm.

The neighborhood was partly destroyed. Many tree limbs were on the ground, power lines down, typical hurricane destruction here.

At Trenton High School, the scene was different. The school had barely a scratch on it, other than some shingles missing from the roof. It was a sturdy building that would withstand the test of time.

Keilvarga, Kinstan

KENG was out restoring power to the affected areas of the city. Water service was restored. There were many tree limbs down here as well. This city faired very well, all things considered. Hurricane Amanda had time to weaken before it came through this congested city.

Tristram Beach, Kinstan

There was a lot of flooding, mainly due to high storm surge. This town had dodged the bullet. They missed the full force of the storm to essentially get sideswiped. The town took a good beating, but it would be cleaned and fixed quickly.

One of the pilots of BSR 5 spotted the survivors emerging,
"Caz, there are dozens of suvivors emerging, let's touch down and get them back to the airport."
"Aye, Phil." Caz replied, before talking to the rest of the pilots. "Everyone find clear patches to land on, let the chinooks land on the largest flat areas. Upon rescuing them, remember to spray paint a mark on the remains."
"Aye, Ma'am" they all replied in chorus.
This was to let the others know that the buildings had been searched and emptied.
Promtly the chinooks and other helicopters landed. FC Caz jumped out of her HH-96B and ran across to Jack.
"Sir, We are here to take you all to safety, are there any dead or wounded that you have seen inside, or out?"

Surfer's Cove, Ordona

"All is obliterated sir, we can't see any sign of life." FC Atesh of BSR 4 said in the radio to her commander FC Charles.
"OK Ma'am, keep looking, Surfer's Cove isn't that big, search every building. If needs be request help from Zinairian helicopters and aid workers or from the Daiwizian Hospital Ship."
"Yes Sir, we will be vigorous. Have the aid workers at Dariopolis International set aside an area for a morgue? I don't think there will be enough room on both hospital ships that are en route." Atesh replied grimly
"Yes, I made sure of it, have to go, good luck Atesh!"
"You too"
With that, Atesh and his team began searching Surfer's cove, wreck by wreck. A speaker helicopter hovered overhead, in an attempt to attract the attention of any surviving locals who may still be in the area.

Trenton, Ordona

BSR 2 ad just reached Trenton, almost immediatly, the two chinooks touched down to set up another forward base, in a large playground. the 2 speaker copters started telling all survivors to head to the playground near the centre of town, A large BAA flag fluttered above the base, to let the locals know where they were.

From the Desk of the Sara Ng, Head of State, Government of Jujuburghia

On behalf of the people of Jujuburghia, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the people of Kinstantia. Although our nations are far apart, and though we have shared little history, the people of Jujuburghia have made it clear that they are deeply moved by the tragedy that has befallen your nation.

Jujuburghia is a small nation with a small army and limited resources. The possibility of direct assistance to the survivors of this calamity is very limited. If Kinstantia chooses to accept, we would like to send aid totalling 2.5 million bears ($1,295,400) to be used towards temporary shelter and to fresh water treatment.

It is with deep regret that the government of Jujuburghia cannot offer more at this time.

Survivors began appearing out of homes, apartment complexes, shelters, any where they could find a safe haven. Throughout the city, about 55,000 people began walking around the streets.

Screams could be heard from all over town as those who ventured out to see the destructions as they saw body after body laying in the streets.

The houses along the beach and within 2 miles inland of the beaches in Dariopolis were completely destroyed. Not one building remained. Downtown Dariopolis was intact, but missing a lot of windows as the streets below were covered in broken glass, roofing materials, signs, trees, you name it.

At Dariopolis International Airport, near the ticketing booths, Sean Sanchez sit crying. His grandmother, Shirley Sanchez, lay dead in front of him. Not storm related, but the stress was too much and she died of a heart attack during the eye of the storm.

Surfer's Cove, Ordona

"Help me!" came a shout from under a pile of rubble near the police station along the beach. "I'm in here! HELP ME!"

From near that scream, several more screams could begin to be heard.

Trenton, Ordona

Tyler, Mandy, and Kevin heard the Burtilana helicopters and knew they should head there. It just so happens that the location that the helicopters told them to go to was 3 blocks away from Trenton High School. The three begin their 3 miles walk to be rescued.

Keilvarga, Kinstan

The Royal Guard were cleaning the grounds. The Personal Secretary to HRM Conner I was angry that his highness was at a beach house and not here for his people. The Kinstantian Secret Service was searching for him at the beach house.

A large crumbling sound began. From near the beach, a 20 story hotel collapsed as its base had been underminded by the crashing waves. This was the main fear. It could happen anywhere and at anytime in the hurricane stricken areas.

This is a KBS News Special Report: Hurricane Amanda, The Aftermath.

Reporting from Dariopolis, Ordona is Kent Brockman.

"The scene is one of total devastation. Dariopolis lay practically in ruins. Fire burn out of control while people fight to stay alive under the rubble.

Now, the government has been setting up places for victims to register for not only Federal Aid, but also as a "checking in" location so that people could be accounted for.

Those missing loved ones in the effected areas should call 1-800-FIND OUT, which is the national Disaster Information Line.

Down in Surfer's Cove, the scene is much the same. Hurricane Amanda spared no punches and this state of Ordona will forever bear her scars.

We now speak with Kinstantian Red Cross Director Clay Walker.

"Good morning, Kent."

"Good morning, Clay. Now, how is the situation on the ground?"

"Well, KAIR and our organization are currently setting up relief locations around Dariopolis, Surfer's Cove, Tristram Beach, Trenton, and about 25 locations along the Kinstan and Ordona coasts as well as up to 50 miles inland."

"Now I take it that people can register for financial aid and the check in process so that loved ones will know the are alive?"

"Indeed, Kent, indeed. Crews will be working 24 hours a day until every last Kinstantian is accounted for."

"It's already a high death toll. Police in Dariopolis have already located 71 dead bodies while rescue workers in Tristram Beach have located another 35. To date, we have been told of 156 dead bodies that haven't even been identified yet."

"Yes, Kent, it's already looking like we'll be in for a shocking high number."

"Well, I know you'll do you best to make sure that everyone is accounted for. Hopefully, there won't be any more deaths attributed to this storm."

"Kent, I can only hope so. And, I just wanted to say that I would like to thanks the girls from Feninia for their help. I'm here in Dariopolis, and if you need me, you know where to find me."

"Yes, Clay, there has been a lot of help from a lot of different nations."

"Well, folks, that's all the time we have for this report. I'll be back later on with more information. For KBS News I am Kent Brockman."

The ships' cranes can be seen lifting watertight crates from the docks into the cargo holds. "GIve them what they want, tell them how to get to Surfer's Cove." said the crackling voice over the radio.

The guard went to the guard house, which was only about 100 feet away, and came back with about twenty maps, the Civil Engineers map of the sewer, water, telephone, and power grids, and a computer disk with the blue prints of every building in Surfer's Cove. He handed them to the Might Cybertron Captain. "Sir, here are the documents you've requested."

"Shit!" Thought Ghengis as he realised why there was so much blood, the baby would be impossible to give birth to like this, and she was losing blood fast, there was a very slim chance she would make it.
"Get me some morphine quickly" he whispered to the medic kneeling next to him. His main prioity was the baby. "It will be ok Linda, we will get your baby out, both of you will be ok. Just hold in there for us, we are getting some medication for you, it will help the pain." he said gently to her, trying to look confident, "CAN WE HAVE SOME MORE OXYGEN DOWN HERE?" all the tanks were low.

Sean knew what he had to do. He took his overshirt off, leaving just his wife beater on. He strapped the parachute onto his back, and walked towards the open door. He looked back at Melissa and winked, and then jumped out of the helicopter.

Sean was falling through the air, with nothing but concrete and asphalt below him. As he began to plummit, he realized that unlike the other times he skydived, this was actually not for an adrenaline high, but for something important. He pulled the rip cord and the chute opened. Now he was gliding down to earth.

He started nearing the ground, and braced himself. With a relatively flawless landing, he hit the ground. He removed the parachute backpack, readjusted his own backpack, and started roaming around. The problem was, the streets didn't look right because of the damage and debris.

Ghengis gave her the morphine, "Hold in there Linda" His plan was to move the rod out slightly, to allow the baby to be pushed through, it was risky, buthe hoped he knew what he was doing.
"Get redy to apply pressure to her leg" He began to slowly move the dirty steel rod out a few inches. Linda screamed in pain, the morphine wasn't enough, "Hold in there Linda, please!"

Sean looked frantically for any street sign that hadn't been blown over. All of them had. The neighborhood didn't look familiar as many buildings had signs down. He followed along what he was sure was Kensington Avenue. He looked for signs again, and noticed one that read Kensington Avenue, so he knew he was where he needed to be, but the question was where on Kensington Avenue. That street ran clear through Dariopolis from north to south.

President Tempest was doing a fly over to view the devastation first-hand. His heart sank as he saw street after street of damage.

"Mr. President," asked the pilot, "would you like to set down here?" The pilot pointed at Trenton University Park, which was an ideal landing ground.

"That'll be fine, Rich." replied President Tempest.

"It'll take about 5 minutes before I can get into a position to land there, so hold on." Rich said as he began speaking with KAF Command.

From below the helicopter, there was a loud explosion. A pillar of fire, smoke and debris blasted into the sky as a gas line exploded in a factory. Pieces of debris struck the helicopter, while the force of the explosion disrupted its flight. Alarms were sounding frantically while the pilot tried to regain control.

"Mayday, mayday, this is Marine 1, mayday, mayday!" Rich shouted into his microphone. President Tempest braced himself.

"Roger your mayday." Said Kinstantian Air Force Command. "What is your status?"

"I cannot get control, something is wrong. We've been struck with debris, and flames surrounded the hull of the helicopter from the explosion. We're going down!"

The helicopter stopped responding to Rich's controls. It began falling from the sky as the main propellers stopped working.

"Rich!" screamed President Tempest, "What's going on!"

"Mr. President, I can't control her any longer!" Rich said with a gulp, "We're going down!"

The helicopter slammed into the side of a 6 story high rise office building and burst into flames, debris fell to the streets. The remains of the helicopter crashed to earth.

Trenton Fire and Rescue teams were coming to the scene. One police officer, Lt Tom Brickman, arrived at the scene almost immediately. The body of President Tempest lay on the ground, charred, and dead.

Hurricane Amanda, powerful, deadly, and majestic, completely obliterated 2 coastal cities: Dariopolis, and Surfer's Cove.

Crews are currently rebuilding those destroyed towns. The current death toll stands at 1,092. Damage estimates are surging to near $200 Billion (USD).

Kinstantia will forever be changed by the events of Hurricane Amanda.

The Kinstantian Weather Service is investing $1 Billion to build a new, state of the art hurricane center in Davisville, Kinstan, which is about 50 miles east of Keilvarga.

KEMA has instituted plans to create new evacuation procedures.

The aftermath even claimed the life of our President, Nathaniel J Tempest as well as several other members of the government.

On the Veranvakian Inflexible Class Attack Carrier Liberator, Captain Ilya Mejavik stood on the bridge, watching as the transport planes were readied for takeoff. They would be launched in 2 waves, to help avoid clogging the airport. The first wave was launching now, even as he watched, the first plane accelerated, and with perfect timing, lifted off the end of the carrier. Ilya smiled, he never got tired of watching this. He watched as the rest of the first wave took off, then he told his first officer the bridge was his, and went back to his quarters.

In the lead transport plane, Captain Steve Simony sat at the controls, guiding the plane towards Kirstantia. He loved flying, and had been doing it for 12 years now, starting when he was 19. He heard a beep from the radar screen, and glancing down, was surprised to see a aircraft at the extreme edge of the radar's range. It was small and fast moving, circling around on the edge of the screen, probably a fighter. Steve felt unease stirring in his stomach, and said to his copilot "Call Kirstantia's Air Force, and ask them if that's one of theirs". "On it" His copilot replied, and he sent on a Kirstantia Air Force frequency. "Kirstantian Air Force, have you sent a fighter to escort us? There is a unidentified aircraft hovering at the edge of our radar range, seems to be keeping tabs on us"

Representatives within our goverment have recently expressed their concerns in closed discussions about the situation in The United States of Kinstantia.
As international media keeps us informed about the deteriorateing state of certain urban areas we are well aware of the problems that rise in these conditions.

As we are facing a similar situation in our nation (and have for some time), experiance has trained both our medical staff and rescue workers to work in hazerdous environments and potentially lawless areas.
If there are any people in need of rescue, medical treatment or immidiate evacuation/relocation in areas that are deemed "too dangerous" for rescue workers in normal cases to go to, we have a small, experienced, well-equipped rescue-crew consisting of 28 men and women with both medical and surgical education, 10 rescue-workers all decorated for their experiance in getting people out of "dangerous areas" (crumbling buildings, flooded areas etc.) and a helicopter detachment of 4 choppers with crew.

If you have areas that your police and rescue workers have declared "too hot" our nations finest are at your disposal.

"This is Captain Steven Simony of the transport group, the unknown fighter is closing on us... Oh crap, he's firing long range missiles! All transport planes, evade those missiles, go to low altitude and split up! Don't be a sitting target!" Steve threw his plane into a violent roll that flattened him into the seat, however the fighter hadn't chosen to target him apparently, he could only watch in helpless agony as 3 transport planes were hit and exploded. There were no parachutes from any of the planes. Before this could even sink in, his panel abruptly lit up red. Steve swore violently as he threw the plane into another roll, but the transport plane wasn't equipped for dodging missiles, and the missile impacted the tail. Steve was thrown back into his seat by the impact, and immediately more panels lit up red. Steve took one look at them and saw the plane was doomed. He yelled to the copilot and the rest of the crew "Get out of here, the bird's going down" He grabbed his parachute and lunged for the nearest door, throwing it open and then throwing himself out of it.

As he fell, he caught a glimpse of a transport plane exploding violently, and contrails that could only be the enemy fighter headed off in another direction, apparently fleeing. He pulled his rip cord and activated the parachute, and began floating down towards what was hopefully shallow water near the shore....

"This is a emergency bulletin, 5 Veranvakian transport planes headed to provide relief for the damaged nation of Kinstantia have been shot down by unknown forces, 4 of the plane crews are all presumed dead, one of the transport plane's crew was able to bail out, according to a call from a reporter on board one of the planes. I is about nine o'clock in the morning on the shores of Surfer's Cove. In the scene in front of you reveals the morning Sun shining down on the broken remains of Surfer's Cove's docks. Though not as glamorous or as vast as other Kinstantian Ports, the docks were never the less a source of pride to the citizens of Surfer's Cove. Now all that remains are floating boards and other miscellaneous debris. Just of the harbor entrance float four Spruance-class destroyers and the Ticonderoga-class cruiser Bunker Hill which made up the escort squadron to the Constitutional Monarchy of MightyCyberton Relief Task Force. The six freighters, medical ship, and troop transport sit with in the harbor. The CMMC Maya, being a self-discharging freighter is edge close to shore to unload the construction equipment used to rebuild the Kinstantian town. The troop transport CMMC Stanley, has dropped anchor and is using landing craft to deploy the 1st MightyCyberton Regiment of the CMMC Corps of Engineers. The first landing craft are already nearing shore with the regiment's commanding officer, Colonel Ambrose Hooker.

Watching patiently for shore is Captain Chip Hawkins of the 1st MightyCyberton Regiment of the CMMC Corps of Engineers. Captain Hawkins had arrived in Surfer's Cove about a week ago. He had acquired the maps, charts, and schematics that the 1st MightyCyberton Regiment would need to rebuild the city. Then Hawkins borrowed a jeep to survey the situation personally. Having determined the best place to begin,Captain Hawkins now waited on shore as the landing craft approached.

Colonel Hooker is the first to step onto shore after the landing craft's gate landed on the beach. After quickly surveying the scene, Colonel Hooker spots Captain Hawkins approaching. Hawkins stops before Colonel Hooker clicks his heels, and raises his right hand in salute. Colonel Hawkins returns the salute before extending a hand to The Captain. After a firm, but friendly handshake Colonel Hooker gets down to business.

Colonel Hooker: "Give me you report, Captain"

Hawkins nods and begins his the report of his activities.

Captain Hawkins: "Yes, sir. I have been able to acquire all of the charts, maps, and schematics we need to begin. I have also personally survey all the area around Surfer's Cove. The way I see it, sir, there are three areas that need to be our first priorities. First, the main road between Surfer's Cove and Trenton has been damaged so that is is difficult to get aid to Surfer's Cove. Also the road between Surfer's Cove and Dariopolis is completely destroyed. We should begin repair these arteries immediately. Another priority needs to be the reconstruction of the Surfer's Cove Docks. This will allow supplies and workers to be delivered directly to Surfer's Cove. Finally, there is still a lot of recovery need in Surfer Cove itself. Local police and Kinstantian Military forces are maintaining order, but there are probably people still trapped in the rubble.

Colonel Hooker nods and smile at Captain Hawkins. Colonel Hooker knew that Captain Hawkins had been the right person to go ahead and his report proves it.

Colonel Hooker: "Well done, Captain!"

Colonel Hooker turns to face his aide-de-camp Major Stanley, who is ready with a clipboard and pen to write out orders.

Colonel Hooker: "Major! First Battalion is to leave a squad to pick of the vehicles need from the Maya. The rest of the battalion will head north of Surfer's Cove. First Battalion's task is to repair the road between Surfer's Cove and Trenton. Second Battalion has similar instructions, but their task is to make repairs to the road lining Surfer's Cove to Dariopolis. Major Hawkins will give each unit's commander the directions. Third Battalion will be assigned to rebuild the docks. Send a message to the Comforter to send a medical team ashore. Auto Company from Fourth Battalion will help the medical team to construct a field hospital and helicopter pad. The rest of Fourth Battalion will begin construction of a supply depot for food deposit and build camp. The rest of the Regiment will move into Surfer's Cove equipped with shovels, picks, and axes. We will be carefully search the down for survivors. Any injured will be taken to the field hospital and if necessary to the medical ship. Please send a message to Trenton informing them of our activities and ask if there are any know victims trapped. Alright, let's get started."

In light of the shooting down of the relief planes belonging to The Democratic Republic of Veranvakia, our government offers a solution. We propose that a naval screen made up of aircraft carrier groups be made surrounding the areas hit by Hurricane Amanda. This screen would allow the already powerful Kinstantian Detection system to extend that much farther and all reaction time to be reduced. Though we are a smal nation, the Consitutional Monarchy of Mighty Cybertron has been able to build three Enterprise-class carriers. One of these carriers could be easily made into a carrier task force and sent to Kinstantian waters. The already in place Escort group under Commodore Thomas Terrorsaur would be added to the carrier fleet making it that much stronger. Now, I can already see an objection so let me easy your minds. Though the fleet itself would be under command of a MightyCyberton Admiral, we would submit to your military's overall command and your rules of engagement.

At present Raven1 has located a public school (unknown name, most signs and banners have blown away) in northern Dariopolis, it is fairly large and the rescue teams have after investigation deemed it stable and secure enough for two helicopters to land on.

Raven1 has made several passings and random landings over Dariopolis and though we have found many survivors we belive that this well established safezone in the heart of the hardest damaged area will draw the stragglers aimlessly roaming the city so remaining crew can focus their effort on the rescue of trapped people in collapsed buildings and flooded areas.

Sitting at anchor in the MightyCybertonian harbor of Vector Sigma is the Enterprise-class aircraft carrier CMMC Battle Dragon. In this same spot about a week ago, Commodore Thomas Terrorsaur stood on the CMMC Bunker Hill waiting with the rest of the escorts to take the relief ships to Surfer’s Cove, Kinstantia. Now the CMMC Battle Dragon sits fully fueled waiting to depart. The Spruance-class destroyers CMMC Aztec and CMMC Inca, the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate CMMC Grimace, and the Ticonderoga-class cruiser CMMC Wraith are sitting off the harbor entrance. These ships are equally fueled and equally waiting to depart. On the deck of the CMMC Battle Dragon, a red carpet is rolled out between to rows of naval officers. The officers are standing at attention in their red dress uniforms waiting for something. Towards the end of the flight deck closest to the command tower, a naval band waits with instruments at the ready.

A shipman’s whistle sounds followed by clicking heels and the band playing the national anthem “We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Bill Joel. At the end of the red carpet a light-skinned black woman in blue with gold trim naval uniform and the insignia of vice-admiral, steps onto the deck. The female vice-admiral walks to the end of the carpet and turns to face length-ways down the deck. On the opposite end two white men, one wearing the insignia of a ship’s captain and the other the insignia of an air force commander, step out and face the vice-admiral. All the while the navy band continues to play. The vice-admiral walks slowly down the carpet saluting each officer and shaking his or her hands. Finally the vice-admiral reaches the end of the carpet where she salutes and shakes the hand of the ship’s captain and the commander.

Vice Admiral Kendo: “I am Vice-Admiral Natasha Kendo. By order of Defense Minister Megatron, I am taking command of this naval squadron.”

Captain Slipstream: “Welcome to the Battle Dragon, Admiral. I am the Battle Dragon’s captain, Alexander Slipstream…”

Captain Slipstream gestures towards the commander.

Captain Slipstream: “…and this is the commander of the Battle Dragon’s aircraft, John Burke.”

Vice-Admiral Kendo nods towards Commander Burke then looks back to Captain Sliptream.

Admiral Kendo nods before looking towards Burke.

Commander Burke: "The planes are all ready as well, Admiral. We have fifty F/A-18 Hornets armed with AIM-9 Sidewinders and AIM-54 Phoenix Missiles and fifty AV-8B Harrier II aircraft armed with AGM-84 Harpoon Missiles. We should be able to handle any threat by sea or by air."

Vice Admiral Kendo: “Very good Gentlemen. Clear the decks and come about, Mr. Slipstream. We make for Surfer's Cove."

Surfer's Cove Ordona

Captain Hawkins's jeep bounces over the beach as he heads east of the town. Things were going fairly well so far. The field hospital and helicopter pad were finished as was the supply depot. Camp was set up west of Surfer's Cove and food supplies were being brought ashore by boats and deposited in the supply depot. North of town, Captain Raymond's First Battalion had cleared the debris from the road linking Surfer's Cove to Trenton and had begun pouring asphalt. Soon Surfer's Cove will be connected to the rest of Ordona. Now, however, a problem a appeared. Colonel Hooker just told him that the hurricane had knocked all the power lines down in the town. More importantly, the electrical engineers say that the wires are still live. Miraculously the lines along the Trenton/Surfer's Cove road were still up, but Second Battalion just reported live power lines down along the Dariopolis/Surfer's Cove road. Captain Hawkins was on his way to investigate to damage right now. The local power station has been knocked out by the storm making it impossible to turn of the power in Surfer's Cove. Without power off there was no way to clear the eastern road toDariopolis. More critically, the power lines could cause a fire in the town and the MightyCyberton Corp of Engineers did not have enough fire teams. Captain Hawkins had sent a message to Kinstantian General Vinson asking for any fire engine available be sent to Surfer's Cove and requested the power to be shut off. Hawkins was just hoping his message got through and that nothing would happen before the fire crews arrived.

Linda began pushing because she knew she had to birth this baby.

Meanwhile, back at the docks.....

General Vinson called Kinstantian Energy and Natural Gas and learned that a major portion of the national power grid would have to be cut in order to secure the power lines from Surfer's Cove northward to Dariopolis.

Interstate 21, which runs from Surfer's Cove to Trenton was being rebuilt. Interstate 47 was in shambles between Surfer's Cove and Dariopolis. Fire Trucks were enroute from nearby communities, and KENG cherry picker trucks were also enroute. KENG was determined to restore power, while preventing live lines for killing people.

Sean walked towards where his girlfriends house should be, but the neighborhood was gone. Not one building was left standing. Crying could be heard coming from piles of rubble while the smell of gas was permiating the air. He knew that if she were here, she was trapped.

President Parker was getting ready to address the nation from the Presidential Office. Her director pointed at her and then the red light turned on above the camera.

"My fellow Kinstantians, it is with a heavy heart that I speak to you this evening. Today we laid to rest President Nathaniel J Tempest, who died while surveying the damage left behind by Hurricane Amanda.

(OOC: This will be a RP thread soon)

"We're also still learning of those left alive, and those killed by Hurricane Amanda. Currently, 10,907 deaths have been attributed to the storm. 117,423 people have reported some type of injury, and 43,648 people are reported missing.

"I have signed executive order 1258 authorising the USK Army and Marine Corps to assist in the search and rescue operations currently underway. I have also signed executive order 1259, requesting that the mid-eastern power grid be turned off until power lines can be removed from major highways connecting the effect areas to the rest of the nation to allow emergency, reconstruction, and relief vehicles access to the hardest hit areas.

"Thank you, god bless you all, and God Bless Kinstantia!

From the western city border, the sound of tanks, military vehicles, and marching could be heard. Residents still in the neighborhoods ran out onto the streets to see the commotion. The USK Army was marching into Dariopolis, along with equipment from the Army Corps of Engineers offices across the nation.

From the northern end of the city, the Marine Corps were entering to assist in peace keeping, and rebuilding of the demolished city.

Surfer's Cove, Ordona

The Army and Marine Corps were moving into the western portions of Surfer's Cove, ready to assist in any way possible. The small seaside town was a sense of pride for the Marine Corps because it was here that the idea for the Corps were first conceived.

Sparking orders where coming in over the radio.
"Roger that command, out. Captain, word just came in that the calvary have arrived in the outskrits of the city."

The captain was not listening as his eyes and ears were focused on the elevator shaft. He could swear he heard irregular hammering from within the shaft.
There where four of them in the team, two was preoccupied with searching the offices for people dead or alive.

"Captain, I said..."
"I heard you brother, they can't assist us at present though. Signal the helicopter and ask them if they can spot some form of entrance at the roof, any kind, a hole will even do."

As BAA helicopters began to guide the Kinstantian army and marine corps to known danger zones, Gengis delivered the baby, quickly he cut the cord and wrapped him in blankets,
"GET THIS BABY TO A HOSPITAL, QUICK!" he shouted, the baby was hurried out of the hole and flown away.
he turned to Linda, she was looking exhausted and worried.
"It'll be ok, you done good, the baby looked healthy, you had a baby ____(insert gender), beautiful thing, now let's get you out!"
he signalled for more oxygen nd a large cloth wall to be brought down, he set it up around himself and her, the others got out, and the began to widen the hole.
