President McDermott steps down! (Open, election thread)

Conserative Morality

*A camera focuses up towards a podium with the official moralite seal on it. A man who looks about in his thirties, dark circles under his eyes walks up in front of the podium, brushing back his brown hair* "You-You may have wondered why I've called all of you here today, got all these reporters here. I'm not here to make a historic speech, or to suggest a CM-Changing bill... But to tell you all something...Very important. Quite simply, this job has ran me into the ground. I'm lucky to get any sleep at all, and I've been taking powerful anti-stress drugs for almost a year. I came into the presidency a vibrant young man. Five years later, have had the effect of twenty. I've served ten terms, not the longest run ever, but a popular one. I can't take this anymore. I don't regret running for this, I don't regret serving my country as such-but I can't do it anymore. I'm... Resigning." *Several senate members gasp, and a smile slips over several of their faces.* "As you all know, this calls for another election. I will not endorse any candidate, and as a matter of respect and honor... All of you reporters, please leave me in peace. I've taken all that I can, attention, stress. I only want to get away from it all now." *President McDermott slowly limps down from the podium and out the door as the senate almost immediately begins arguing*

The priesthood of Ebai, Goddess of Sight, finds great veracity in the words of the Civilis Party. Where such elections are held, it is undoubtedly right that freedom is preserved, and compulsion put away. Therefore, I have decided to donate a sum of Universal Dollars to your party's cause, understanding that, in lands such as yours, one must rely on guile and persuasion to win an election, rather than valour and honour.

Fifteen million USD has been wired to the campaign accounts of the Civilis Party.

Letter to the Volzgradien Government from Tiberius Antony:
Thank you for the donation to help us win this election. We WILL put it to good use.
Tiberius Antony

Message to Aintar Levarr from Sextus Marius:
Many thanks for the donation. Although I do not see your message as entirely true, it still holds that persuasion still helps win the election, rather then deeds, or intelligence. Thank you again:
Sextus Marius

ooc: is the election over or is that just an opinion poll? In addition, people really need to add a green parties to these

SIC:
Message to: Tiberius Antony
From: Republic Ministry of foreign affairs

Noting the recent political events within the Democratic Republic, we wish to put our full support towards your party in this election as it has become clear that it is your party who represent the best interests for people of your beloved nation.

Though a formal donation by a foreign power would no doubt be an immense scandal we are still winning to provide our substantial resources should it be required.

OOC: Just an opinion poll. CM isn't exactly worried about the environment, so deal with it!:p But I do used an advanced formula to figure out how much effect a donation has on the voter outcome.

Message from Tiberius Antony to the Ministry of foreign affairs:
A donation from a foreign power would not entail any kind of media outburst, or be regarded in any way as a scandel. With the exception of the National CM party, but they wouldn't accept one. We thank you for your support in this election.

Tiberius Antony brushed himself off as he stepped up onto the stage to take part in a three way debate between him, Sextus Marius, and Gaius Atius. Taking a deep breath, he sat down as Johnny boy(The stage name of the show's host) began:

Johnny Boy: So, first question from the audience; What's exactly your stance on some of the larger crporations? The ones rich enough to possibly purchase nuclear arms?

Sextus Marius: Well, I think that they should be allowed to purchase such weapons. After all, what are they gonna do? Nuke their customers?
*Laughter from the crowd*
Gaius Attus: I think that Nuclear weapons should be banned from the market! they may not nuke their customers, but what about their competitors? Even the free market has it's problems, and I'd be damn scared if companies were allowed to purchase Nukes!

Tiberius Antony: I think that those companies should be shut down and be replaced with control of manufacturing and goods by the proletariat!

JB: Typical commie answer *Laughter from him, an angry glare from Tiberius* All right, next question: Polygamy. Marriage between more then two people. It might be rare, but it's legal. Your stance?

SM: Keep it legal. It's not dangerous, and it needs consent on both sides.

GA: I think it's dangerous! Dangerous to this country's morality! Have we lost the morality in Conserative morality? We need to outlaw such a despicable practice!
*Boos and jeers from a group of two men and five women in the back*

TA: No comment.

JB: Next question; taxes. Last years 2% sales tax raised a lot of complaints, especially from Gaius McDermott. What do you think?

SM: Get rid of it. The tariff is enough already! What do they want to do, suck us dry?!?

GA: Keep it there, low, but not stepping on anyone's toes.

TA: *Hesitation* A 100% income tax and redistribuation by the state.

JB: Whoops! I'm sorry folks, but that's all we have time for today. It was a pleasure meeting with you gentlemen, may the best candidate win! Except you *Points at Tiberius, laughter from the crowd*

We've today's results at the polls! Remember, only three more days until voting starts!
Civilis Party: 32%
Humanus party: 12%
National CM party: 2%
Liberal Capitalist Party: 31%
Communist party: 3%
Party of the Republic: 16%
Undecided: 4%

"This is a *CBC Special Report"

"The Premier has issued a press conference concerning the recent events in CM. We now go live to the Presidential Residence."

"The Premier will make a brief statement and will not be fielding questions at this time," the Press Chief explained. "Ladies and gentlemen of the press, the President of the Supreme Soviet."

Premier Galindo walked stoicly to the podium. His usual calm and jovial exterior was replaced by a cold and callous look that only those that had been under his command knew.

"My fellow citizens, as you know, several hours ago the Embassy in CM was destroyed by a high-yield explosive. This dastardly act was carried out by fanatical CM isolationists. Their act showed no concern for the innocent civilian lives they ended in that horrific explosion. Currently, I have ordered a full investigation in the matter, with the hope that CM authorities will give us their full cooperation. Those who perpetrated this act will pay for their crimes. I also want to extend this country's best wishes to former-President McDermott, and hope that he will get the rest he so graciously reserved. For those guilty of today's crime I have one more thing to add; you can run, but you can't hide. We will find you, we will catch you and we will prosecute you. We are a strong and proud nation, and WE ARE NOT AFRAID."

Heh...they're by-and-large pretty close, except that articles don't exist in Latin, and the word for "but" is "sed".

Also, I just figured the candidate wasn't the same as the head of the party.

Anyway...IC:

(double-secret-probation communique from Maxwell Edison, Bluth Corporation Deputy Director of Covert Operations for Political Manipulation)

Mr. Arrius,

As you well know, any political system is merely a means to an end, rather than end in itself. When that system fails to produce the correct results, then, it must be evaded in order to ensure liberty for all men. To that end, Bluth Corporation would like to offer you financial assistance--openly for your campaign, but also secret appropriations to assist you in manipulating the election subversively to ensure you win. Should you fail to win, we are willing to back you with any means you may choose up to and including armed revolt to prevent a collectivist, anti-reason government from coming to power. As our intelligence community is rather young and inexperienced, we are at the moment unable to offer you anything but financial assistance, but we would be most enthusiastic about doing what we can.
