Government of the Far Echo Islands collapses
Akimonad takes control
By Evan Keynes, Upson Times
About three days ago, the government here in The Far Echo Islands collapsed suddenly with no explanation. Echonia had largely faded from the international spotlight some months before, shortly after the former government was toppled by Socialists led by Kez Iko.
While the government of Akimonad pledged to remove the Socialist government, they did nothing, given the Islands' decreasing prominence. Eventually, the islands faded from recent memory.
Now, however, the government has dissolved unexpectedly. The socialist leaders have disappeared and there is no one to succeed them.
In order to "preserve stability", Akimonad Proconsul Frederick Bremer has taken over the government. All representative bodies in the islands have been dismissed for the time being and a state of emergency has been declared.
The 567th Division in Echonia has been partially mobilized to zones and cities that have histories of civil unrest. APCs now patrol the streets in some areas.
So far daily life remains mostly unaffected in the Far Echo Islands.

While we are glad that the illegitimate Socialist government has collapsed, and do give our thanks to the Akimonadi for protecting the stability of our close allies in Echonia, we are also concerned for the preservation of certain Echoese institutions, principally Cetacean Rights.
OOC: First to ICly respond, naturally.

The Autocratic Federated Empire has, since the last problems resulting from Echoese policy, been largely disinterested in what policies the Echoese enact.
Such policies, including those related to cetacean rights, will not be disturbed from their pre-collapse states.

As a fellow member of the League of Imperial Ocean-faring Nations and a friend to Akimonad, the Promethian Republic of Faxanavia fully endorses the actions of the Akimonadi government in the overtaking of The Far Echo Islands. We hope that they will bring prosperity to the Islands, and wish them well in their venture.
Respectfully yours,

Thank you for preserving these policies. We do have, for the purposes of determining further foreign policy regarding the Echo Islands, some questions about present Echoese governance: How are the Islands incorporated into the Akimonadi Empire? And do they have any degree of autonomy, self-governance, or home rule?
Again, thank you for showing respect towards Echoese values and restoring Capitalism to the country.

The five million Echoese-Kiravians in the Empire were certainly not as 'thankful' as their government. Yet again, the Akimonadi had taken over their ancestral homeland. Thousands of Echoese-Kiravians and other Kiravians who had been living or working in the Islands were quickly repatriating. As usual, protests were held in the largest Echoese settlements: Greysand, IceDiamond, and the southern neighbourhoods of Saar-Forestgreen. Their Coscivo-Kharic Kiravian neighbours tended to share their views. True, Coscivia was a war-torn economic hell, but so it had been for centuries.
The truth, though, was that the Echoese had become a beloved part of Kiravic society. That society, though ethnically diverse, was quite insular in their proceedings with others. There was a permanent, sometimes edging on xenophobic or supremacist, feeling of Kiravianity, a sense that they may belong to thousands of ethnic groups, linguistic communities, and religious creeds, but as long as they were Kiravian, all disputes of such matter were secondary. This thinking created a great reluctance to allow foreigners into the Empire for more than trade and diplomacy. Immigration was strictly quotad and aimed at assimilation. 'Guest workers' and imported labour were purely of a colonial plantation fashion. In reality, the Echoese were the only significant foriegn population in the Kiravian Empire.

Official Communique
The Commonwealth of Zoingo is mostly neutral on the action that Akimonad has taken towards The Far Echo Islands. While we recognize that they do have legal control over the territory, we wish that the matter be resolved peacefully and quietly. Also, we applaude the government of Akimonad in not changing policies enacted by the old government, since we have seen how valued the laws are to the people of TFEI.

Centerville, Far Echo Islands --
"So, the government has fallen apart. Socialism has never worked." suggested Ernesto Ykio.
"And never will. Has anyone noticed this cycle, our government rises, then falls apart, and then a new one rises. I'm sure you all already have. I blame the typical politics of state rights and too much personal freedom thereby crippling the economy, causing discontent, causing frustration, and finally rebellion or coup. It’s time we federated I say. If we make it so that the federal government has more power than the state governments then we will be able to better hold the nation together.” Pointed out Esteban Valdez.
“I don’t think that goes far enough. I say that we should eliminate the bureaucracy that has so long plagued this nation’s government completely!” interjected Hector Torio.
“I agree with Mr. Torio. I nominate Mr. Valdez as a candidate for the position of President of this nation.” Spoke James Thornton from the back of the room. There was a pause. “All opposed? Any other nominees?” continued Mr. Thornton “All in favor?”
A hesitant chorus of ayes came through. It was the sound of people who knew they had no better option.
“Well, President Valdez, it seems you have a country to run and an announcement to make.” Said Mr. Thornton with a smirk.
“Yes, I um, I do.” Said the new President, not entirely sure what happened.”

It is my advice to the Akimonadi to relinquish their control on these islands as soon a possible as we have officially formed a new government to replace the old and dilapidated and corrupted one that formerly ran this nation.
Our new government, as formed by a national convention in Centerville, has been formed to eliminate the bureaucracy that has so long caused instability in this nation. We ask the world for recognition of the new nation to rule these islands, and hopefully the last for quite a long while, the Federal Republic of the Echo Islands.
Signed,
Esteban Valdez

"Emperor Seawind, the Echoese have declared a new republic."
"Thank God! May I see the information?"
"Here's all the dirt we got, sir," said an aide, handing Seawind the telegram sent to Akimonad.
Seawind put down the environmental budget reports tat he was reading, and rubbed his hands together. "Well boys, it's showtime. We're recognising it."

The Kiravian Empire fully recognises the existance and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of the Echo Islands. We feel that no more need be said concerning thus.
To the Autocratic Federated Empire of Akimonad, we thank them for stabilising the Islands enough for a democratic, capitalist, and republican Echoese government to emerge. Now that the Echoese are capable of governing themselves once again, we politely and respectfully call for Akimonadi recognition of the FREI.
Long live the Federal Republic of the Echo Islands.

We deeply thank the Kiravian Empire for their support in this difficult time in our nation's history. This transitional period between governments is notoriously dangerous and the situation extremely volatile.
All the foreign support we can get, especially from close allies like Kirav and Akimonad, helps to assure the people's faith in this new, capitalist, conservative and federalist government.

Esteban Valdez
