Alfegos Rare Earth Metals - Ores & Elements Emporium

Alfegos

Introduction

The Alfegos Rare Earth Metal Corporation was originally founded as a consortium of companies in 1967, mining and processing the by-products of the strip mines in Milkavich. This consortium had a monopoly on the market for the rare metals the managed to extract viably from waste, such as Yttrium which was fast becoming a high-demand material.
In 1973, the company expanded into nuclear waste reprocessing, a valuable branch that managed to gain it even more capital within and outside Alfegos.
Nowadays, the Alfegos Rare Earth Metal Corporation enjoys a period of steady profit rises, overseas sales increasing in response to global demands of many of its products.

OOC:

Nice idea. But people are only going to buy stuff for weapons, and on that basis I'll soon buy up all of your uranium stock.

But to be nice, some Antigran may want 3 billion tonnes of free government-bought Ytterbium. Will you sell 95% reactor uranium?
Alfegos
22-06-2008, 18:58
OOC: Remember, prices for Ytterbium are per kilo... but I just hoped I might tempt from the woodwork some legitimate corporations not intent on buying nuclear fuel.

As for 95% grade reactor fuel... using U-235, you're looking at a possibly uncontrollable nuclear reaction. Even maybe reaching critical mass. But if you make an official request, I'll see what I can come up with.

Official message from Conserative morality:
We would like to buy 100,000 Kg's of U-238 from you for 14,400,000 Tiosles (8,000,000 USD). Payment will be wired to you as soon as you confirm our order. We would like the U-238 to be shipped to the small port of Sedomare in Tiberil.

I'll respond to that with a grin and a wink.

The order from Conservative Morality is accepted. Delivery can be expected within 4 weeks. We wish to remind unloading staff at the receiving end that U-238 is an unstable element, and as such poses a low level ionising radiation hazard.

Thank you for your custom.

ANTIGRAN MILITARY TRANSMISSION
The United Royal Kingdom of Antigr

The United Royal Kingdom expresses interest in this company and wishes to purchase 100 metric tonnes - 100,000kg - of weapons-grade uranium, 20 metric tonnes - 20,000kg - of high-grade weaponry plutonium, and 9,700 metric tonnes of depleted uranium - at a total cost we believe to be $10,533,000,000, all, of course, for building enviro-friendly non-exploding baby incubators.

We ask that this delivery be shipbourne and that it be escorted either by Royal Antigran Navy ships, if allowed, or ships of the Alfegan Navy, as this is an incredibly important purchase of national interests.

We also enquire into 95% grade reactor uranium and plutonium.
Alfegos

The order for the materials requested have been accepted, the price provided of $10 533 000 000 being correct. Escort to the 2 vessels used will be provided by private contractors, who will hand over the vessels to Antigran custody once 100 kilometres offshore of Alfegos. We wish to inform the Antigran purchasers that the company is not associated with the government in any form.

Please note that whilst the Uranium being provided is classified as a Level 3 ionising hazard (level 4 for the Depleted Uranium), the Plutonium constitutes a much higher level of danger as a level 2 radiation hazard, and is a highly pyrophoric element. As such, we recommend that the sealed concrete casks the elements are provided in are handled with due care, and that shielding is used whenever the casks are open. Thankyou for heeding this warning.

CC: Enquiry as to High-level reactor fuels.

We thank you for your interest into higher-grade reactor fuels, but at this point are unable and unwilling to supply these grade fuels due to the danger they pose to a reactor.

With each increasing grade of reactor fuel, the heat output and thus radiation output are vastly increased. This goes to the point that our high-grade reactor fuels are often used with control rods 70% inserted just to maintain a low level of reaction.
As a consequence, we believe that even 95% Uranium, let alone Plutonium, pose an extreme risk to a reactor's operation. This risk is to the point that a full critical mass could be obtained, resulting in a nuclear explosion.

Therefore, we will not sell those concentrations for fuel, lest an accident occurred. Thank you however for your custom.

OOC: How much mass does a single kilo of DU have?
Alfegos
27-06-2008, 19:22
OOC: You seriously need to reread that question you just posted...
Greywatch
27-06-2008, 19:25
OOC: Sorry, what I'm trying to ask is the weight and size of one kilo of DU. (Or weight to size ratio or however one should word htis, I assume you get the picture.) I know its heavy so I'm trying to get a mental picture of how much I'd need to buy for say, an armored door for a military facility etc.
Alfegos
27-06-2008, 19:34
Density you mean... 19.1g/cm^3
Greywatch
27-06-2008, 19:43
OOC: That's the word, thanks
IC:

Greywatch would like to purchase 5,000 Kgs of U-238 at 400000 USD or 339,270.57 Drakes

Thankyou for your purchase! The Depleted Uranium, which will be transported pure as opposed to hexafluoride form, will arrive shortly via container ship.

Please be aware that Depleted Uranium is a Level 4 radiation hazard, and as such should be handled with care. We recommend that no food stuffs are left near areas this is used in, and that masks are worn in all cases where there is a risk of dust being produced.

OOC:

Damn...you are no fun. Oh well, I suppose I'll have to buy my nuclear apocalypse from elsewhere. Thank-you.
