Across the Pond [Closed, ATTN Northern Sea]
Kartika, Kirav
Fyren Redwood, Secriatist of State, awaited the arrival of the diplomat from the Northern Sea at Kartika International Airport. The nation lay just to the east of the Kiravian motherland, across the Ocean of Kirav. As both nations were obviously close in geographic terms, it had been decided that they ought to get closer diplomatically and commercially.
Redwood saw the usual black dot appear in the distance. They were here.

On board the jet flying towards Kirav, Cheif Cardon Arnook looked out the window. He had long heard of the legendary Kiravian Empire, and when he thought about it, he felt stupid for not interacting with them earlier, since they were so close together. He looked across the aisle and saw his two oldest children. He brought them to learn about diplomacy. His oldest, princess Ember, was reading a book about Kirav, and his son, Kenderick, was asleep. The pilot the came over the loud speaker:
"We are approaching Kirav. Please prepare to landing."
Cardon smiled, then woke up his son as the plane descended.
The jet grew exponentially in apparent size as it approached. Reddwood went out onto the tarmac as it touched Kiravian soil, and stood by the electric-power limousine that awaited to transport the Ambassador and his family.

The chief and his children stepped out of the plane, down the stairs, and onto Kiravian soil. He saw the limosuine and the man standing next to it, and walked over,
"Hello, I am Cardon Arnook, chief of Northern Sea. These are my children, Princess Ember and Prince Kenderick. We are all delighted to be here"
Redwood saluted in the Kiravian fashion, then held out his hand. "Welcome to Kirav. My name is Fyren Redwood, head of our Secriat of State. It's an honour to have all of you here," he said. He then opened the door of the limousine, and welcomed the chief and his family inside.

The stepped in the limousine, and it drove off. The chief looked out the windows at the Kiravian Landscape. He had many questions, he wanted to know a little bit about Kirav before meeting their ruler.
"So tell me about Kirav, i'm curious."
"Well, it began as a group of colonies of the Coscivian Empire, in a land far from Nova. It's from there that we derive our culture, languages, philosophy, and our immigrants. Coscivia came upon hard times, and gave each colony to a clan that would rule it as a Viceroyalty. They did not rule well, and were overthrown. Each colony then joined into the Confederate Republics of Kirav. We expanded to cover the resto fo the island continent, and ten began building our overseas empire. Nowadays, 2/3 of our population lives in one of our colonies or dominions outside of the region. Eh...I guess the most important thing to say is that we're quite different than most other nations in many respects. We're not racially charged as many countries are, but our macroculture places high importance on non-racial ethnicity. Our government is unique as well, but that'd take awhile to explain."
The limousine entered the walls of Kartika, and rolled ever closer to Krovenirene Castra, the residence of the Emperor.

"Our nation has many unique characteristics as well, as you will soon find out." The chief said as they passed through the Kiravian Capital. He then looked at his kids, and thought of a question,
"Does the emperor have any children?" he asked.
"He does indeed. He's actually the first one in a while to have any. One's named Imiara, and she's sixteen, and the other's Askan, and he's twelve. In fact, I think that they're visiting this week. They live with their mother in the Xirya Colony most of the time, as Sèr Seawind doesn't want them caught up by the paperazzi."

"Yes, that's understandable. Ember here just turned 17, and Kenderick is 15. I have 3 other children, but i left them back at the palace..." He said as they got closer to their destination.
"My family lives with me here in Kartika, but we lived in Western Kirav before I took this position."
The limousine passed the Praetorial Tower, the Senate Hall, and finally reached the walls enclosing Krovenirene Castra. The building was about the size of two New York city blocks, and built of golden-beige stone in a Classical Coscivian style. The drive turned the limo into a small parking lot and stopped. Redwood got out and held the door open for the Chief and his children. "This is it," he said.
The group walked to a medium-sized kiosk connected to the wall and adjacent to a high, solid, gate. An Imperatorial Guard walke dout of the kiosk, "ID, please."
"Here you are," said Redwood, handing the guard a card, "The others are a diplomatic party from the Northern Sea. Yes, I've papers for them."
He handed the guard some official documents.
"All's well. Just a quick one-over," said the guard. He waved a metal detector over everyone quickly, then signalled into the kiosk for his comrade to open the gate.

As they walked up to the gate, Ember said "This building is beautiful," They stopped and they guard scanned them, and they walked in. The chief smiled. He was excited to meet the emperor.
Redwood led the guests of the Empire to the cedar doors and knocked dupon them, at which point the doors were opened by the Castral steward.
"Welcome, Sèrâv, Ma'am. Emperor Seawind is in the drawing room. Right this way."
As the Steward lead them down the halls, Redwood pointed out some of the Castra's interesting furnishings. "That portrait's of Drämur Sendfield, the Emperor who built this place for himself. That chair over there is actually a trap. Emperor Coalforest was a bit paranoid, so if someone rubbed him wrong, he'd ask them to sit in that chair, which would activate both an alarm and a restraint mechanism. It still works, too. Lost a cleaner the other week, almost..." and so on. They reached a pine door that lead to the Drawing room, where the Steward bowed and left. Redwood added one last thing, "Oh, uh...The Emperor's a Saskev, you see. It's customary among them to be seen reading when one's guests arrive, so don't be offended."
He opened the door, and gave full view of the room within. Emperor Seawind was seated in a chair by a large coffee table, reading a Kirological volume. He turned his head, closed the book, and rose to meet the Chief. A young woman in a nearby seat rose as well.
"Chief Arnook. It is an honour to have you and your children here in Kirav. This is my daughter, Imiara."
She curtsied, "How do you do?"
"Sit down, Sèr, please. We've enough chairs."

Thank you, Emperor. It's a honor to be here." The Chief said as they shook hands. "This is my daughter, Ember, and my son, Kenderick" He said. Ember curtsied and Kenderick gave a small bow. They all sat down, and the Chief said "Thank you again for allowing us into your country and your home."
"You're very welcome, and it's a pleasure to have met all of you. Ehm...Before we begin, would you like anything to drink?"

"Yes, Thank you. I'll take a water and," he looked at his kids and asked them, "and water for the both of them, too. So what exactly will this agreement we are here for consist of?"
"Well, it'll basically consist of two parts," he explained as a servant set out a tray holding three glasses of water and a cup of tea, "The first one is a non-agression pact, a pledge that neither of us shall attack the other under any circumstances, and that in the event that we are dragged into oposing sides of a conflict through other alliances, then we shall either abstain wholly or partly from combat. The second part is a free trade pact that allows for the untaxed transfer of goods between the Northern Sea and Kirav."

"That sounds excellent," the Chief said, "Actually, Northern Sea has never been in a war. We have had one or 2 battles in the past, but they were completely defensive, and they never escalated into a full war."
"Then your nation is truly fortunate. We have been involved in wars, but thankfully, our homeland has never been attacked by an outside force."

"I'm glad that both of our nations are in a relatively peaceful region. Is there some document or treaty that needs to be signed for this pact to be official?"
"Indeed there is," said Seawind. His daughter returned with an envelope bearing a full-size print of the treaty, headed by the flags of the Northern Sea and the Kiravian Empire on the top. The document was printed in three columns: One in Coscivian, and the other in Nanish. She also brought two pens with deep violet ink.
"This ink is derived from a plant that grows in the province of Njaska, just north of here. We use it to officialise our highest orders and treaties."

"This document is excellent" the chief said, reading it quickly, "as for the ink, we are honored you used such a rarity in your nation. I can't wait to see the outcomes of this agreement."
'Thank you. Neither can I. It shall bring great benefits to both of our peoples," said Emperor Seawind as he signed the treaty.

When the treaty was passed to him, Chief Arnook signed it with a smile, "Now, it's official", he said happily.
"Excellent. Now our two nations can move forward together. It is an honour, Chief Arnook."
A quick photograph was taken, and a steward entered with a bottle of champagne. Seawind decanted it, and gave a glass to Arnook, "To a prosperous alliance," he said, raising his own glass.

"Yes," the chief said, raising his own glass, "May our agreement be prosperous and inspire other nations throughout Nova, and the world." And they drank.
