The Ohsahn Confederation

Race: Ohsahn: Children of Ramius, Lord of the Forests

Traditional Ohsahni Warrior (http://drakonis.org/albums/monster/thumb_mons51.jpg)

History:

The Ohsahni have always been fiercely independent, and have asserted their right to empire. They have never sought further than their current borders, and retain only what is necessary for survival. As the Elven race subjegated the rest of the western hemisphere, the Ohsahni fought bitterly for their jungle-home.

This jungle home, was once part of an ancient empire. It is filled with temples and pyramids that pay homage to nothing in particular. The Ohsahni do not inhabit these places, but the Elves sought its treasures and the Ohsahni slave labor. As the Elves tried to take the jungles, the Ohsahni set traps and unleashed many troubles on the invaders.

More of a victory for the Ohsahni spirit, the Ohsahni say that they have never been conquered. They continue this tradition to the day, remaining very suspicious of outsiders and explorers. They have declined ambassadors from many nations, and remain more mythological to most outsiders. While many have tried to decipher their archaic traditions, most have failed. Recently though, with the Elvish rebellion and the acquisition of the Highlord, the Ohsahn have begun to be a little more belligerent.

Population:

c. 905,000

Capital:

Bas

Slavery:

Non-existant, although the caste system does breed some prejudice of 'lesser beings.'

Area:

The jungles of Sahlus. These jungles are dense and filled with towering canopies and thick underbrush. They are filled with hundreds of species of plants and animals, that serve as prey for the Ohsahn gatherers. The jungles are also home to an ancient civilization that once hewed a colossal empire. The jungles are filled with tributes to these people, pyramids and monoliths that give adherence to dead kings and prophets.

The jungles are also filled with many treasures, which lure many human and elven adventurers. The Ohsahn do not take kindly to intruders, especially ones that are plundering their home. The Ohsahn capital is located next to a large tributary, and it is a large canopy city. This city, called Bas is made entirely of tree-houses that overlook a deterorating pyramid-city. The Ohsahn palace is also here, and is regarded with as much splendor as many elven courts.

Natural Enemies:

The Celuio (http://drakonis.org/albums/userpics/thumb_minotaur-45.jpg) are a tribe of creatures that live in the dark crevices of the jungles. Although known for their thick skin and hairy manes, the Celuio have a unique respitory system that allows them to survive in the humidity. The Celuio live in jungle caverns, and emerge only to hunt for meals. Using primitive clubs they climb trees into Ohsahn communities, mostly at night.

The Oklo (http://drakonis.org/albums/monster/mons47.jpg) are a mysterious group of monsters that usually guard the former cities in the jungles. They are extremely powerful, and use tools to eradicate the Ohsahn. Using long roped rakes, they pull down Ohsahn tree-bridges, and claw at Ohsahni homes. This provocative behavior has enraged the Ohsahn, and the two have viewed each other very warlike for hundreds of years.

Physical traits:
The Ohsahn are four armed and usually gray skinned. They have thin eyes that slant upwards toward their forehead. Most are muscular and corpulance is not often found. The Ohsahn are agile and can quickly climb trees, but they are not as fast when on solid ground. For hair colors, younger Ohsahn have black hair, and it gets gray and white as they age. The Ohsahn do not live for more than two hundred years, and only sages and other magic users live for that long. The only facial hair that they sport are long beards, and again, this is only for older Ohsahni.

Government:

Confederation of tribes with simplified caste system

The various tribes of Ohsahni have unified recently under the banner of Highlord Elauyei, who proclaimed a message of brotherhood. The Highlord has brought together the largest tribes, and has made many improvements to the Ohsahni infrastructure. He has also called for a genocide on the Celuio, and has significantly raised the number of active Ohsahni troops. The Confederation prides itself on its tribal communication, defensive structure, and coalition mindset. The greatest aspect of the confederation is its emphasis on the individual and its role in the larger racial spectrum.

The caste system on the other hand, has been in place for as long as any Ohsahni can remember. It stresses the belief that some tribes are above others, and that there are some types of Ohsahni that are 'untouchable.' The caste system though, is deterorating, and many youths denounce its practicality.

Religion:

Ramius, Lord of the Forests

While the Ohsahn are not a theocracy, they still are extremely religious. Their rites are very secretive, and most common Ohsahni do not understand them. Masses are spoken in a very old language that only the priests utilize, and most of the priesthood are just as old.

According to the Ohsahn, they are descendents of Ramius, who they depict in their own image.

Military:

The Ohsahni military is said to be made up of every single person, since each is willing to defend their homeland to the death. The military though, revolves around outdated weaponry that most cultures would not use.

The Ohsahni have no formal infantry, prefering to use ranged weapons from the safety of their perches. The Ohsahni also do not use traditional tactics, instead using guerilla warfare and constant hit and run. For the most part, the Ohsahni military will use their special bases.

When the military hears of an invading force, they will go to the approximate area, and begin hollowing out the trees. These gargantuan trunks will usually hold upwards to hundreds of soldiers. When the invading army enters, the Ohsahni will poke holes through the bark and shoot a volley of poisoned arrows and javelins. When the army tries to enter the tree, the Ohsahni will evacuate from their upper level tiers and then retreat farther back.

The Ohsahni also use a unique type of spellcaster. Their mages, called Shapers, will disguise the forest when invaders attack. This causes the entire forest to seemingly change, which disorients invaders. Shapers can also create certain weather patterns that will accomplish the same.

The military as of now, looks like this:

Situated at Bas
100,000 active soldiers
20,000 shapers
5,000 guardians (ground level infantry)

The Ohsahni do not use any ballistic or siege weaponry, as it is rendered ineffective in the jungle climate.

Culture:

The Ohsahni culture remains a mystery, but there is much pride in elders and in age. The Ohsahni are also not extremely martial, but still hold their warriors in a very high esteem. Village life revolves around the family, which is usually made up of hundreds of Ohsahn living in one tree.

Language:

Ohsahni, a very complex language that is made up of screeching and clicking. It is very hard for any other race to master, and it is much easier for the Ohsahni to learn other languages. Many Ohsahni, especially the elite are bilingual, having learned it from acquired texts.
