ANN News Announcement - 12:32am

"In the last thirty minutes, we have just received word of a discovery that could land the owners of the island of La'ilos billions of Aureus."
"Yes. According to a statement released by the La'rai family, the owners of the island for over a century, the island which is located in the centre of a prime shipping lane has been found to hold, in addition to copper deposits, large amounts of the rare earth metal Europium. At a cost of $36 000 per Kg of refined ore, it is believed that from primary survey the island may yield tens of tonnes of this material. We will go over to our business correspondent now, who is currently offshore the island. Abra?"

"I hear you, studio. As you have heard, Europium is a very valuable element, found on this island by a hired survey team in the form of Monazite. This mineral contains alongside surprisingly high concentrations of Europium other more abundant rare earth metals such as Cerium.
Now whilst you may be wondering why on earth Europium is such an important element, I can assure you that many of you at home will be looking at it right now: it is the major component in blue LEDs, which can be found in all sorts of electronic apparatus. It also used in LASER lenses that you may find in the latest Blu-ray DVD players, as a counterfeit prevention additive to the ink in our bank notes and in the diagnosis of many genetic diseases and syndromes. So, a very important element. And with surveys suggesting that there may be many hundreds of tonnes of this element both in the island and offshore in the surrounding area, alongside viable amounts of copper ore and many other rare earth elements.
Now, while we heard minutes ago that the Alfegos Rare Earth Metal corporation put forth an offer to purchase the entire island for an undisclosed amount, we have heard rumours that the owners, who reside on this private corner, wish to sell only the mineral rights to prospective foreign buyers.
Back to you in the studio."

________________________________________________

To who it may concern,
As you doubtlessly are aware, we have recently paid a mineral survey team to provide us with details as to what minerals lie on our property. The results that came back with the land containing many rare earth metals. Whilst all of these were found to be in high abundance, we found especially that Europium is present in particularly high levels.

As such, we wish to make you, the mineral company we have sent this to, an offer. We are willing to sell the mineral rights of segments of our land to prospective buyers. These are the conditions:
1- All companies must abide by the Alfegan Government laws whilst present at the site.
2 - All companies must provide their own transport to and from the island.
3 - Rights given are for the minerals only, and not for the land itself: as such, all proposals for building must be allowed by our family.
4 - When mining operations have ceased, the company must restore the mined area to as near its former state as possible.
5 - Workers must be housed by the companies.
6 - All personnel are expressively forbidden from stepping on the Alfegan mainland, 40km to the east, unless prior notification is given to the government and all documents for the workers are provided.

The land, shown on an attached satellite photograph, is divided into 8 zones. Each company is able to bid for a single zone, which may or may not contain the highest levels of rare earth metals. Note that companies may wish to send their own survey teams in to provide more detailed analysis of the land they wish to bid for, in order to detect levels of minerals. The survey conducted by the family, in the central area, found small deposits of copper ore in addition to large amounts of the ore Monazite, and some Xenotime, at depths between 0 and 200m from the surface. Below that, no knowledge is there as to mineral deposits.

We note to all that the island is on a major shipping lane for both conventional and air shipping. As such, it should be relatively easy for you to transfer resources to and from the island.

Yours faithfully,
Ii'soi La'rai

Dear Ii'soi La'rai;

Dear sir,
We apologise for not making ourselves clear, but we are only selling the mineral rights of the island, and only single zones to single companies. That way, we can ensure we receive the best overall price for these mineral rights, and stop a single company from monopolising the entire deposit.
We thank you though for your offer.
Yours sincerely,

Ii'soi La'rai

ANN News Update

"In the past hours, we have been informed that the La'rai family have received an offer for the entire island from a Kenavt company, the Youtron Corporation. For now, it appears they have been refused a place, an insider informing us that the company possibly failed to stick to guidelines in a letter issued to all possible interested parties.

In other news, the family have been seen to have hired a private security company to protect the island, after it emerged that there have been at least 20 instances of successful trespass upon the island since the announcement of the minerals. We have been asked by a family representative to warn all those thinking of landing on the island that, for their own safety, they should go through the family first before setting foot on the island. The security company, we have been told, are a high-level mercenary organisation that is government approved, and as such can be expected to be armed and dangerous to all those attempting to land illegally."

We at the Helmsson Manganese Corporation pride ourselves in our ability to maintain environmental awareness whilst ensuring efficient and reliable mineral extraction operation.

Naturally, the release of mining rights to a rather substantial amount of Europium is an extremely interesting opportunity for investment, and it is with this in mind that we wish to request permission to send a Surveyance Group to the island.

Yours,

Dear sir,
We again wish to point out that you are attempting to purchase more than the possible land allotted. However, we will save paperwork by assuming that you will purchase the area "Golf", for the sum of £1.09425 billion, or approximately $500 million.
Thank you for your custom: the deeds for the minerals in that zone will be transferred to you on the next flight out of Alfegos to Kenavt, via secure cylinder. The password to open the padlock on the cylinder is 2BA912E4. Your security code to send to the security organisation when contacted during approach by aircraft or sea is Echo Bravo Bravo Whiskey Hotel Niner. We have increased security to prevent incursions by unfriendly groups wishing to gain the minerals.
Once again, best of luck with the minerals that you find.
Yours sincerely,
Ii'soi La'rai

Dear Sir of Helmsson Manganese,
We are delighted at you expressing interest in sending a surveying party. The party may arrive by any means, and will be catered for in the family castle for the duration of their stay. When contacted by the security organisation, please use the code Papa Alpha Bravo Hotel Foxtrot One. This will help prevent any confusion with other groups.
We are thankful that an environmentally aware corporation has decided to show interest, and as such hope that you fufill these demands we have placed before you should you find the sector of land you are exploring is satisfactory.
Yours sincerly,

Dear Ii'soi La'rai,

We are sorry for any mistakes caused. We are willing to purchase the "Golf" section, and we will be arriving at La'ilos once the deeds are received to begin excavation. We ask for the permission of making a mine, with a dormitory, on the "Golf" section.

Dear sir,
We thank you again for your purchase. We will allow for the construction of a dormitory area for the miners to stay in, as well as the mine itself. Please remember to stick to regulations provided at all times, including the security measures that you are asked to take by our guards.
Please note that a pre-existing airstrip exists in the central section about 1km south-south-east from the family castle, which has been enlarged and resurfaced to allow for the security forces. Alternatively, transport by sea is recommended to be done at Di'an Landing, in the bay west of the family grounds. We ask that you set up facilities of your own in your area as quickly as possible, to prevent hassle with the purchaser of the central zone.
Yours sincerely,
Ii'soi La'rai

We would like to front for a coalition of Artican mining corporations and the government. For $500 million we will purchase the mining rights to the Hotel sector of the island. We would like to construct a barracks for our security forces and workers, a dock and airstrip for transport and erect a mobile phone mast for communications. As soon as we've analysed the area for the best site actual mining facilities will be built.

The Rabbidian Mining Corporation (RMC) wishes to purhcase the Alpha area of the Island. We request permission for building a small airport and small port for exportation of minerals extracted. We will be primarily mining the copper, as Europium is always attached to other minerals anyway. We do further request the ability to build a laboratory and ore processing plant on the island in order to be able to separate the Europium from other minerals before exportation and to create pure europium. We will pay $750,000,000 for the Alpha section of the island.

Kind regards,
Tsiang Mao, CEO RMC.

Ii'soi lar'rai looked over the top of the dark red battlements of the main castle, his home. Light shone from the west behind him, this dying light from a setting sun casting deep shadows from the steep landscape. The strong winds meant that no forest could grow here, and the soil was unable to sustain much life, except for the flock of sheep that idly grazed across the mountains. Despite this, it was a beautiful island, that now was showing him the true potential. Not wishing to lose this land, he had decided to sell mineral rights to the island. Still owning the land, he would generate enough money to keep the family in wealth for the next century, without having to concede the land below him.

He turned around as he heard a call from below, snapping him from his reverie. His son calling him to read a story, the words drifting from a small window cut into the mud walls. Pacing away from the wall, he listened to the swallows singing from underneath the eves, nests built around the curving overhangs of the towers. He soon crossed over at the bottom to this tower, climbing up the internal stairs past pictures of his family hung wherever the wall was flat enough. His footsteps on the wooden staircase echoed inside the tower, reverberating continuously as he eventually reached the top floor. He smiled at his 6-year old child lying underneath the iron-wood eves, before forgetting about the complicated business temporarily.

With permission to move ahead with the project, Mr. James began making phone calls, and allocating resources to begin mining operations on the island. Within hours, planes were in the air, inbound toward La'ilos Island.

Over the Foxtrot Section of La'ilos Island

4 C-141Bs flew in over the island under cover of night. Once they were over the target, they began airdrop operations, dropping 336 people, and equipment to a predetermined landing site. Jimmy James was the first person to jump, as he always likes to directly oversee new projects.
