O.U.D. Seeks Freelancers!

Morrdh
17-06-2008, 15:34
In a statement earlier today, the Morridane Office of Urban Defense (part of the Ministry of Reclamaton) has put out a call for freelance hunters.

The scheme has been devised to help the overwhelmed soldiers of the Morridane Deathwatch in tackling the hordes of zombies that roam Morrdh's wilds and ravage its cities. All persons seeking to be employed in such a fashion by the OUD will be subjected to background checks and must have their weapons checked over and recorded by officals.

Though in exchange for their efforts, freelancers will be able to claim bounties on their prey, be entitled to discounts on supplies and after 5 years be able to claim visas for perament residence in the Unified Republic of Morrdh.

Details on bounty payments are currently under going debate and will be released at a later date.

The Cute Bunny Security Forces and the Greenwater Corporation would like to deploy their mercenaries in your country. Would this be possible?

Yes mercenaries will be welcomed, though payment will only be paid on bounties collected and licenses will be issued subjected to a yearly renewal fee. We are only authorized to pay bounties to licensed persons whom must present an identification card in order to claim a bounty.

Though details on the bounties have now been finalized and released;

Bounties

Bounties paid are based on the creature eliminated. A hunter who brings in 'living' specimens that have not been destroyed recieves five times the normal bounty. The OUD generally remands such specimens to the care of research facilites.

Animate: 50gc
Vampire: 100gc
Thorpe: 120gc

Bounties given in Morridane Gold Crowns.

Bounties on other creatures are paid by the case, depending upon their threat level.

A small airship rocketed over the land below, thrusters propelling it far from its home vehicle. It was a small 140m-long zeppelin, black envelope painted with flames that shimmered in the heat from two large engines, props changing angle as it came to a slow over a road. Now at a 20km/h slow cruise, the side door on the gondola at the front opened, allowing a man to swing his legs out. He was Captain Ya'sa, a mercenary operating from the Neo'los colony, acting as a mix of bounty hunter and hired gun. The airship soon slowed to a stop as it began to drop slightly, the captain now aiming with a large rifle at the creatures moving about below. A .50cal ASF sniper rifle, chambering hand-loaded rounds. All hollow points, filled with phosphorous. Hopefully enough to get a few kills.

His first shot blasted one of the creatures to pieces, ripping a hole through its torso. The following shots hit others moving about, leaving bodies sprayed across the ground below. Happy with his fill, the airship gunner opened up with the autocannon mounted on the underside. 35mm HE rounds ripped through the ground and surrounding buildings, blasting anything organic nearby to pieces, and showering the area with shrapnel. The craft flew off after half a minute, leaving a row of buildings and street smoking. The infra-red camera had said 31 creates. At least $2400 for that.

OOC: Is this PMT?

IC:

Greywatch will send in Forbidden Ministry forces as well as the Council of Dragons. Both of which are highly trained. The FM is a secret 'black weapons' group who would take great pleasure in exterminating these creatures, the CoDs are a group of mercenaries who have got nothing better to do.

We'd like to put forward a professional force of volunteers from our airborne assault and marine divisions. They'll come fully equipped and organised and the government will keep them completely supplied- but perhaps it would be possible for you to cover their costs instead of their collecting bounties? Judging by the quality of the volunteers you'll be making a profit. There are 2,100 organised into two battalions. We've designated them as the Artican Paranormal Reaction Unit (APRU) - the 'Inhumers'.

OOC: Up to you tech wise, though nothing overboard. Morrdh would be best discribed as being stuck in a time warp of sorts, it hasn't changed much since 1905. It appears some *history* (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=554572) would be in order.

As stated the OUD is only authorized to pay bounties, however it may be possible that the Ministry of Reclamaton might consider your proposal.

We'll await the Ministry's decision before deciding on a final course of action then. Parliament has approved sending a team of our top medical scientists to study this unique disease- with the obvious intention of developing a vaccine or cure. A budget will be fixed soon. We invite other nations to join in this scientific effort to deal with this blight.

The carrier Zeppelin slowly dropped down, just above the trees. "Alright men, we don't know what's gonna be out there, so keep your guard up! They *Claim* zombies and vampires, but I doubt there's anything that can't be 'cured' by a full dose of lead!" "Get 'em sarge!" "Let's kick 'eir asses!" "Give them what they've got coming!"

Each man, one by one, dropped down into the thick wooded area below. "No sign of hostiles yet. Wait, there's some movement over there. I can't quite see what's-AH!" "THERE THEY ARE! OPEN FIRE!!!" Gunshots rang out from all sides, laser sights dashing from one target to the next. Explosions felled trees, making a small cleared area. "GET TO THE TREES!" Sargent Antony yelled, then into his radio "Zeppelin carrier codename "Lead", we need cover fire around the clearing, create a perimeter!" Man after man would fall, his closest friends making sure with a full dose of lead. "We can't take this! Get to the trees men, ready your grappling hooks!" Every man left ran up towards the trees, climbing to the top, and launching their grabbling hooks towards the cargo bay. Some fell short, some broke on the way, few made it back.

"Captain. Circle around. We still have to collect the bounty." Sargent Antony said grimly. "What?? You aren't sending them back down there, are you?!?" "Of course not, we just need to count what bodies we can. Just the ones in the clearing, we still need the bounty, yes?" Counting silently and quickly to himself, he managed to calculate a total of 5500 gc. Hopefully that'd be more in tiosles. "Captain, set the net." Firing the net down, the Zeppelin slowly struggled upwards under the weight. "Let's get back, before anything else can pop out towards us. we've about forty or fifty of those zombies in there, let's hope they don't feast on each other in the time it takes to get to the research facility."

Cheers:

We were members of an organization once known as The Bloody Cossacks, and we would like to take up your offer for freelance work. In the spirit of honesty, we would like you to know that we were implicated in a terrorist attack against our own country, and that cost the lives of twenty soldiers. We are not sorry for this, however the leader of our group was executed, and we served five years in the labor camps; we were paroled on the condition that we leave the country.

We feel that we could contribute to your struggle. My three colleagues were marines in the Siapian Navy, my wife was a medical corpsman, and I was a sniper in The Community's intelligence services (Detachment Aleph). If you are willing to let us into your country, we will do our best to be upstanding citizens and assist in your fight against this menace.

The room was dimly lit. In the corner sat a man, lighted only by the cigarette he was smoking. He exhaled smoke slowly. On the table next to him lay numerous equipment, including NVG's, an M4 Carbine with a silencer, grenade launcher and scope, and a computer.

The computer lit up his face as a message came through. He lazily moved his arm to the computer and clicked a button. It displayed the message;

--TO: CODENAME WEREWOLF--
--FROM: WOLFHOUND COMMAND--
--MISSION AREA: MORRDH--
--THREAT LEVEL: SIGNIFICANT--
--MESSAGE ENDS--

He threw the cigarette into a bin on the other side of the room, closed the laptop and slowly moved over to the equipment on the table.

Two dropships headed for Morrdh, aboard them were multiple CoD and FM soldiers who had been briefed on their special mission. In total there were four squads of CoD mercenaries, seven men to a squad, not including the commander. The FM squads consisted of five men to a squad not counting the leader, there were three sqauds of FM Black Guard and two groups of FM specialist groups. The specialists were well trained but could only carry light weapons with their equptment, their leaders however were actual FM soldiers often used as Black Ops by Greywatch.
The dropships had an eerie way of lighting up the sky. They were covered in a special material that appeared silver in daylight but went solid black at night. The only indication they were there were softly glowing blue lights on their hulls.

Our organization known as Nightwatch can send in a team of highly trained former deadbolts, the Kyan ultra-elite. These particular individuals are also trained in dealing with the paranormal, and the leader of the group, Xavier III, has personally killed over a dozen Artemian vampires. Xavier III is in fact quite a character. He has served in the Kyan civil war and the Kroandon war, he is the rightful heir to the now defunct Kyan throne, and his status as an ex-deadbolt and war hero has propelled him to the status of a national icon. Therefore we would like your permission to keep a blackhawk helicopter trailing the group at all times in case of emergency, because it would be rather unfortunate for Xavier to be killed.

A heavily modified blackhawk helicopter carrying the 4 man squad began lowering in altitude. It was dropping the 4 man team in the middle of the Morrdhian wilderness. The helicopter was decked out with an obscene amount of machine guns. The normal 2 M134 miniguns were clearly visible, as well as half a dozen M240's sticking out in every direction. The helicopter was also visually modified, the team had took it onto themselves to give it a row of teeth, as well as an engraving of crossed M16's.

The helicopter let the 4 man team drop down from ropes so that creatures wouldnt attempt to run onto the chopper. As soon as the team hit the ground they drew their weapons and stood back to back. 2 team members held standard issue AVIR assault rifles. One held a ZM-06 MAN portable Laser dazzler. This would serve to blind the approaching undead so they would not be able reach the group. Unless they have a good sense of smell, that is.

Xavier, the team leader, held a AA-12 automatic shotgun in his hands. These guns are normally given to members of the Kyan army for urban or close quarters combat. He also had an expensive DR-84 sniper rifle strapped to his back. It was the same rifle that Xavier had killed over 25 Kroandon soldiers with in the war.

At first there was quiet, and then, in the distance, Xavier heard a roar. Before they knew what was happening hundreds of zombies began running at them through the mist. The man with the laser dazzler quickly went to work, shooting it in all directions to stave off the zombie attack. At the same time the two men with the AVIR's were shooting wildly into the crowd, vaguely trying to obtain headshots. Xavier was being much more accurate, taking careful aim before blowing away each zombie. Before long over half of them were dead and the rest were wandering off into the mist, unsure what to do upon losing their vision to the laser dazzler.

It turned out that the big PMC's were not interested in the contracts the Morrdhians have offered – they had no interest in pay that was merely bounty-based. But several smaller organizations were interested. Several thousand Allaneans – adventurers, big-game hunters, and gun enthusiasts have begun applying for visas to Morrdh.

One of them was the newly formed Chrysanthemum Security Company – realistically, a group of about twenty range buddies out for some adventure- and reward, too.

Their vehicles included a DREAD surplus M113, painted white, with the words Jim Gavin painted sloppily across the front, a pair of Sandstorms (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12760734&postcount=2), and five DAA-2 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12760802&postcount=3) vehicles bought especially for the trip.

Sitting on the roof of “Jim Gavin” was Mike Ronson (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v42/allanea/characters/company/mike.jpg), the leader of the outfit, holding a DRS-84 rifle with an oversized scope. His other hand was laid around his girlfriend, Melissa Santoros (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v42/allanea/characters/company/melissa.jpg), who toted a brace of giant revolvers. Down below were other young women – formerly the Ferina County Shooting Club, (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v42/allanea/characters/company/company.jpg) also known as “some of Melissa's friends from high school.” Why they joined the adventure, nobody knew. Driving the vehicle was Melinda*, and Sandra (the sniper), Anita, Natasha, Consuela and Miichelle** were seated behind her in the vehicle.

Petr Fistashkin – a work buddy of Mike's – drove one of the Sandstorms, loaded to the brim with AT launchers and explosives. Another friend of Ronson's – Pavel Bezukhov – drove the other Sandstorm. He was a paramedic, and so he sort of passed for the team's doctor.

Finally, the DAA's were in the rear, driven by a variety of Sudanese-Allaneans. Chief and most prominent among them was Wani Gara (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v42/allanea/characters/company/wani.jpg) – again, a friend of Ronson's. He loved the idea of a zombie-hunting trip, and rounded up half a dozen of his friends to come along. Of course, they barely knew English – so Wani had to act as an interpreted. But hopefully, everything would work out.

And so on one bright day, the CSC arrived in Morrdh.

“So... where do we find us some zombies?”

Somewhere in Morrdh

The zombies have long devoured anything remotely looking like a human being in the area. Still, however, the animates shambled listlessly around what was once an old-style shopping mall. Most of them were near the old mall or inside it – but still, some had wandered out pretty far – and a person accidentally driving here at night could take them for humans and brake to avoid running one of them down.

Melinda was not a random person. So when she saw an animate in front of her vehicle, she just pulled on the control levers. There was a terrible squelch as the formerly-human was dragged under the white track and turned into fine zombie-paste.

The other zombies turned their heads towards the vehicle, but where unable to even slow it down as the enormous white hull sped right past them. Inside the vehicle, Melissa raised a field radio to her ear. “This is Airborne. Target clear. Proceeding to stage two.”

The vehicle turned, and sped away, stopping a mere hundred meters from the mall. The zombies, by their nature, shambled slowly in its direction.

Five hundred meters away, Mike Ronson was the first to flip the cover off his rifle scope.

This was nothing like regular sniper work, he mused, catching a zombie in the crosshairs.

He knew that his rifle would shoot about an inch below the aim point at this range – he hadn't had time to zero it again. So he just held at the zombie's forehead and knew that the bullet would hit it right between the eyes.

This was, again, not like regular sniper work. You didn't need to shift positions after every shot. You didn't need to hide the glint of your scope.

And you, and all of your buddies, can fire at once.

The entire Shooting Club broke out in a flurry of rapid-fire rifle shots. They didn't hit “every” time – but the ground around the mall was becoming covered with zombie bodies.

“FIRE IN THE HOLE!”

The Sudanese, with Wani Gara at their lead, started firing their weapons. The clatter of Wani Gara's machinegun and his friends' automatic rifles was almost deafeaning – and then Fistashkin joined in.

There was a powerful explosion as one of the anti-tank rockets hit inside the mall itslef, collapsing a roof section.

The Company continued plinking away at the zombies, who simply could not cross the 200 meter distance fast enough.

When the grounds around the mall were safe, they approached the building and waited for more zombies to waddle outside – only to be promptly executed.

After that they claimed reward for several hundred undead. They kept the pelts, too.
