War with the GWO (OOC thread)

So as not to clutter the IC thread with OOC chatter. Which I dislike within RPs, and here seek to avoid :)

In response to your points on 1) AA systems and 2) Number of ships;

1) Lyran AA/ABM systems are heavily upgraded versions of projected results from the Russian S500 series, with a dash of Arrow 2 and Patriot thrown in for good measure. If you really want to have a look, the LY471 'Skyguard' is linked in via the Lyran Arms storefront.
The radar itself is based on US ICBM detection systems, modernised (from the 1970s/80s) in Lyras, and amalgamated with the above mentioned missiles. Really, check the LY471 on Lyran Arms... I don't fancy going into it.

2) The modern USN has 280 ships and a budget of 127.3 billion per year. If I presume a naval budget of NS$10 trillion, that would give you a navy of 21,995 ships. My saying that I'm using 3,000-odd isn't much at all. I could quadruple it comfortably...

IC post soon-ish. I do apologise if the post sounds grumpy... I think I am a little, but it's not directed at you...

I'lWhat does GWO stand for? If I find that I can handle the situation, I'll join the fight.

AA Systems are similar to Lyran's own AA Systems

Naval and Aerial warships: 160 naval warships (at the most) and 6 support aerial warships and two aerial aircraft carriers.

GWO is the country 'Grand World Order'... and to join this particular war, it being semi-closed, you should probably telegram ThePeoplesFreedom (over NS telegram, not jolt).

Can I ask why war is being declared? And the nation isn't coming up in NationStates or do you mean yourself?

War was declared (OOCly) 'cos all sides felt up or it. ICly, the GWO is seen by Lyras and TPF as a nation that conducts itself dishonourably, and the suppression of dishonourable tendencies in such a prominent state is deemed conducive to good order.
Or something like that.

You're always welcome to join in the fun on our side... bring some soldiers. Plenty of ships around.

True, the USN does have that many ships, but most of them are logistics.

Quoting the thread, "What Logistics Is"-
Now let’s look at Navies. Back in the 1980’s, the US Navy had 600 ships. 12 of those were aircraft carriers. There were approximately 30 submarines. Toss in two classes of destroyers, three classes of cruisers, three (count ‘em- 3) battleships from World War II, two classes of frigates, for a grand total of around 150 combat ships. Yep, you read that right. At the height of its post-WWII military power, the US Navy was 75% support vessels.

That would mean that even with a fleet of 3,000, only 750 would actually be combat vessels.

You claimed your radar systems can pick up airborne objects as small as golf balls. If that was true, the radar screens would be so filled with signatures that your operators wouldn't be able to notice a plane flying in. Birds, flying fish, civilian ships and planes, fleets belonging to other nations, and more would be picked up, along with potential threats.

I've already gotten premission to enter the war, I'm prepared to provide airbases and logistical support for The PeoplesFreedom in their blockade against Magna Polis, as some of my holdings are within 200 miles of Magna Polis.

I am unable to post until this gets sorted out, so here I am, sorting :)

For detection, picking up small objects is actually quite possible, just rarely of use. Likewise here, where, of course, filters would be in place so as to avoid that very clutter. Golf-ball moving at 100kph? Probably nothing, or a hailstone, or something. Golf-ball moving at 600kph? That's worth displaying.

If I grant you the one in four combat to logistics ratio, that's fine. As I stated earlier, I could, based on budget and population, comfortably quadruple my deployment.

US, 1980s, 250 million pop (thereabouts). 600 strong navy. 150 warships.
Lyras, now, 5300 million pop (thereabouts). 12720 ships. 3180 warships.

These stats are, further, based on equal expenditure, which is not the case. Lyras is a very unique state... but I'll let that one slide. That discussion is not relevant to further establish the point.
