Its finally time for new elections in The People's Republic of Zayland! Elections take place every year here, and last year the Republican Party won. The results were as follows:

-Republican Party: 43%
-Democratic Party: 24%
-Independent Party: 18%
-Libertarian Party: 7%
-Green Party: 5%
-Ban Elections in Zayland: 3%

Alexander Frost of the Republican Party won the last election, and has since done and amazing job raising the economy and both political and civil freedoms, along with lowering taxes. However, since his election crime has risen. Overall, he has a high approval rating for Zayland, up at 61%.

So now, countries of NationStates, it is up to you to decide the next President of The People's Republic of Zayland.

After polls closed at 10:00 PM, EST last night, there was an unbelievably surprising small turnout. Now as the polls reopen early this morning, we expect a lot more voters trying to beat the polls by not going in on opening day. We encourage all to vote for the good of The People's Republic of Zayland and those surrounding the country.

"I am Kyle Janson with Zayland Today, Zayland's most popular news station. Today, as usual, the main point of focus is on the elections of our great nation. The Kiravian Empire has asked the candidates a few question to deliberate on who to endorse, and the candidates have such released statements based on the questions asked. Here are their responses:"


Republican Nominee Alexander Frost:
"I will gladly answer these questions from the Kiravian Empire, and I'm very heartened to know that people care enough about this election to actually ask about the candidates rather than vote by party. While in office, I have increased the economy of Zayland, along with the Civil and Political freedoms of the people who live in this great country. Obviously I am a capitalist over communist, and I am in very strong favor of states rights in Zayland although there are only 3 states. Zayland was recently classified by the World Assembly as an "environmentally stunning nation" and I take great pride in this fact. Under my rule Marijuana has been illegalized during my term due to its harmful and addictive properties. Slavery, as long as I am the strong Christian and morally-strong man I am, will never take place in Zayland, and I'm happy to say it never has. Although I just mentioned I am Christian, I do not persecute by religion and Islamic's are welcomed in Zayland just as anyone else is. Foreign relations is very important to me, and trade with the friendly Kiravian Empire would boost both of our economies and I would take the first steps to make such transactions occur. I have also made abortion and homosexual marriage illegal during my term. A woman has a right to do what she wishes with her body, but the baby fetus is not part of her body and is a living human with the same rights as the mother. That babies rights will not be sacrificed. Homosexual relationships are immoral and have also been made illegal during my term. Thank you for your questions and I hope I answered them efficiently.

Democratic Nominee James Wilthorn:
Capitalism is very important to my campaign, and I would be lying if I said the incumbent Alexander Frost did not run the country well by that standard. However, the president has made both abortion and homosexual relationships illegal! A woman has control over her own body, and a baby should not be considered living independently until birth. Until that point, the baby is literally a parasite and, at the mother's wish, can be killed. Homosexual marriage should also be legalized. Marriage is created by love, not from some guidelines a book written thousands of years ago states. Although the environment is very important, it is not a priority for me. Priorities include increasing civil liberties and political freedoms. The incumbent even put cameras in public areas in attempt to lower crime rates. This is infringing on our civil liberties and needs to be stopped. The military needs to not receive too much more funding, because war is only a last resort and money should be going to more important things such as universal health care. Those who can't afford health care in Zayland seem to not be able to live as long due to the health problems they get. They need to have the same health car options as any one else, and raising taxes will do just that. Marijuana should stay illegal, Islam should be accepted by any who wishes because of freedom of religion, and trade with the Kiravian Empire is good for our economy and should be pursued. Thank you.

Independent Nominee Henry Smith:
I don't like to talk much, and I'll get right to the issues. I agree with Mr. Wilthorn on the issues of Homosexual Marriage and Abortion, and both should be legal. The Environment really isn't that important, and only a small portion need be preserved. The expansion of corporations and urban areas is more important. Slavery should never be accepted, and Islam should be allowed but those who follow it kept a close eye on for suspicious behavior, because problems have occurred in Zayland by those people. I believe marijuana should be legal both as a medical drug and a recreational drug. It's effects aren't much harmful as a normal cigarette, and who's ever heard of a person committing a crime while under the influence of Marijuana? I would like to separate Church and State, because religion is very dangerous when mixed with politics. Anyways, I must be going now, I have a big rally planned in Vykeria today!

Libertarian Nominee Sarah King:
I'm sorry, but I really don't have time to talk. I'll answer the questions, but I'm sorry to say I don't have time to go into great detail. Abortion should be fully legalized, and Homosexual Marriages should be allowed but not literally called a marriage. The environment needs to be protected, but the animals in the environment itself are far more important to protect, such as our precious Bengal Tigers. They need not be hunted, or even eaten for that matter! As a Jew, I would be cautious around Islam followers but would not make their presence in the country illegal. Trade with other nations such as the Kiravian Empire are important and need to be followed. I'm sorry, but I must be going now.

Green Nominee Kenneth Grant:
The most important issue to me would be the environment. With all the greenhouse gases we are releasing are breaking up the ozone layer and destroying the earth. I could rant on and on about civil liberties, political freedoms, moral issues, and other such nonsense, but how much would that matter if we were no longer living when the environment gets destroyed? We need to take funds from the military and roads construction to preserve the environment, immediately!

After hearing the positions of the Zaylandic presidential candidates upon the issues most important to us, we have chosen to endorse Sèr Frost. As a capitalist, anti-abortion, environmentally conscious Christian, he is the most similar in ideology to ourselves, and the best choice to rule a section of the world that we all cohabit. We officially donate $12,000,000 to his campaign.

Also, as soon as a President is chosen, the Kiravian Empire would like to invite either him or a diplomat to Kartika, our capital city, to discuss a possible trade and alliance pact.

May the best man (Alexander Frost) win.
