[OOC: For some of you old-timers, you might remeber Hrstrovokia and it's failed invasion of it's smaller neighbour Boroglia (which had never attained nationhood) about 3 years back. The invasion came to a halt following intense pressure from the international community and several threats of force to backdown and pull out, and eventually I buckled and refrained from sending in forces. However there still remained a large minority of Hrstrovokian's living inside Boroglia who wanted to be a part of the Hrstrovokian Union. It was decided that a multi-national force of peacekeepers deploy to the region to oversee Boroglia into holding a national referendum to decide it's future.

However, Al Anbar, one of the states which committed peacekeeping forces to Boroglia, refused to co-operate with other members of the multi-national force once it had established itself with Boroglia and closed the borders over which it had control. It soon became evident that Al Anbar was inside Boroglia purely for the reason of territorial aggrandisement.

Following a successful attack by Hrstrovokian forces, Al Anbar was defeated and forced to comply with the multi-national force, eventually pulling out of the region. It seemed that Boroglia would become an independent state and peace had returned. The international community eventually forgot about Boroglia. So too did Hrstrovokia, moving quickly to distance itself from the shame and humiliation following it's failure to flex it's muscle on a international stage. The promised referendum never materialized, and over 5 and a half million people who claimed Hrstrovokian ancestry felt robbed of their right to vote for union.

Boroglia eventually became an independent state, moving away Hrstrovokian influence. The Hrstrovokian community there felt incensed and abandoned. Desperation turned to flames as the Lion's Roar - a Hrstrovokian terrorist group, formed from the poorest elements of Hrstrovokian society, began a campaign of sectarian violence directed against Boroglians.

The Lion's Roar recieved support from the Hrstrovokian security forces, in the form of weapons and training, albeit this was very unofficial. The Hrstrovokian Government, under the leadership of Premier Miolytan, considered restoring to the Greater Hrstrovokian Union as an imperative objective, one which might take away the public focus from the governments failed interpretation of Socialism and it's increasing levels of dire poverty.

Eventually the Lion's Roar dedication to violent resolve and it's murderous results stirred the Boroglian's into response - the Boroglian government began a series crackdown of Hrstrovokian communities and internment without trial. Premier Miolytan used this as his excuse for intervention, the mistreatment of Hrstrovokian people, to began a possible invasion of Boroglia.

So....this is semi-open, but fully-open if you have had some involvement before with me or this story. I will wait til I have one or two other people involved before I begin the story. PM for details]

This is how desperation exploded into flames...]

Kaerosovir was a small town of rustic charm , nestled in a valley that is the gateway to the passage through the Khaldirm Mountains, which links Hrstrovokia with Boroglia. Once it was a prosperous place, the local economy thrived on the steady flow of travellers and traders heading south for Boroglia whose last major settlement would be Kaerosovir, and the strong logging industry, for the forests around Kaerosovir were extensive and teeming with wild deer and bears. It’s population was a unique mix of Hrstrovokian and Boroglian, and for decades these two communities co-existed peacefully without any notice of the differences between them.

But that was a long time ago. In 1997, Boroglia declared it’s independence after the failed annexation by it‘s behemoth neighbour (under President Aleksander Mirosov) stirred it‘s people into political and national awakening. With a nationalist leadership at the helm, Boroglia plotted a new course in international affairs, moving very quickly to distance itself from aggressive Hrstrovokia, which it eyed with much suspicion. It was that same year that the Supreme Council of Soviets, the highest level of legislative assembly in Hrstrovokia, unanimously voted to boycott Boroglia, refusing to acknowledge it’s independence.

The Greater Hrstrovokian Union Party, an ultra-nationalist force comprised of fiercely vocal opponents of Boroglia ‘succession’ (a telling use of language, some people - but not all, have always seen Boroglia as part of Hrstrovokia as it was once historically and culturally and the country has a very large Hrstrovokian population - 5,300,000,) called for an immediate use of force against Boroglia, though this was not wise or possible considering a multi-national peacekeeping force remained there and the eyes of the world were still on Hrstrovokia.

The GHU was the same party that had called vehemently for the boycott of Boroglia. It’s influence was beginning to increase in the SCS (Supreme Council of Soviets). Hrstrovokia is not a one-party state like many Communist regimes‘, but a one-ideology state and only Socialist, Marxist-Leninist or Communist parties are permitted to form, stand for election and hold seats in the SCS. That is, those who were approved by the government.

The GHU had many supporters in the region around Kaerosovir, peoples whose passions could be easily ignited. Sectarian violence spread quickly amongst the Hrstrovokian communities inside Boroglia, whose paranoia and sense of encirclement did not lend itself any favours in the new Boroglia, and their refusal to participate in the building of a new and inclusive Boroglia was a smack in the face.

Resentment was rife amongst the Boroglians who had been angered at the privileged position enjoyed by the Hrstrovokians previous to indepdence. For that reason, Hrstrovokians found themselves excluded from all government jobs, the army, the police - everything. The locals around Kaerosovir felt enraged that they could do nothing to help their brethren.

Kaerosovir’s fate was sealed in that summer of 1997. The borders between Boroglia and Hrstrovokia were sealed by the Armed Forces in an effort to bring Boroglia to economic collapse. The road through it became a collapsed vain and nothing flowed into the town, only out. It was those years, the late nineties, that the worsening situation of Socialism in Hrstrovokia really stood out.

Large tracts of forest around Kaerosovir were felled to use as firewood of millions of Hrstrovokians during the bitter winter of 1997, who could no longer afford such luxuries as coal, gas or oil. These materials were being traded desperately by Socialist Hrstrovokia in order to gain some foreign currency and stave off the ravages of inflation - 200% at the start of 1997 and looking set to increase.

Eventually the forests around Kaerosovir were gone, stripped away. What was left had already been destroyed by 40 years of acid rain and state neglect of the environment. It lay at the feet of the great Khaldirm mountains, naked and spent. It’s people remained however. It’s not surprising then, that in 2008, Kaerosovir is a bastion of GHU support. With no industry or trade, with no jobs, people there turned to the only thing they could have an affect on anymore - the Boroglia question.

When the GHU took total control of the SCS in 2006 with a huge majority, it's leader, Serb Miolytan, prepared to take Hrstrovokia in a new direction. Upon his succession to the Hrstrovokian Presidency, he made an impassioned speech in the town of Kaerosovir.

It wasn’t their fault that Socialism had failed in Hrstrovokia. It wasn’t their fault that Hrstrovokia had been humiliated on the worlds stage. But they would take action. It was here, in Kaerosovir, that the Lion’s Roar was established. This organisation , which had originally set itself the task of restoring pride in Hrstrovokian culture and was non-violent, was soon infiltrated by ex-soldiers of the Armed Forces and other embittered locals.

The government, police and military looked the other way as the Lion’s Roar began a campaign of xenophobic intimidation. Anybody could have guessed that the Lion’s Roar had received support from the GHU party, many of it‘s members held membership cards for the GHU.

In 1998, following an arson attack on the home of a Boroglian in the Kaerosovir area which resulted in the death of 7 members of one family, the Borogolian President Helmark, harshly criticized the Hrstrovokian Premier Miolytan, for doing nothing in the face of rising sectarian violence.

Miolytan's desire to "reunify" Hrstrovokia was well-know. His response was more of a provocation to the Boroglian's, which ran something along the lines of "Yeah? And? So What?". But eventually, fearing an international response and possible intervention, Miolytan moved Hrstrovokian divisions into the Kaerosovir region to "increase security".

It was from this point on that the LR (Lion's Roar, which was banned in Boroglia as a terrorist group) began recieving direct training and weapons from the Armed Forces.
