Based on the RPK and with some components borrowed from the AS-VAL, this light machine gun, The AR-9s, chambered in the New Izhevskian 11.43x54mm Subsonic round, is a modern, Silenced Light Machine gun. Despite its slower round, it is still quite accurate, and is effective against body armor at 500 meters, and is designed for a source of high firepower in special covert operations.

The round is based on the 7.62x54 Russian round, used over the 7.62x51 NATO due to the larger case diameter of the Russian cartridge, which allows for standard 7.62 casings to be necked out to 11.43 (.45). It is a subsonic round, so when silenced with a suppressor it creates almost no sound at all.

The sight is a collimating red dot sight focused between a split post near the muzzle. 60% of the barrel is composed of the non-removable silencer, underneath which is an accessory rail on which can be fitted lights, GP-30 grenade launchers, etc. The bolt is a standard Two-lug rotating bolt, similar to that used in the RPK, and due to the somewhat small (for an LMG) size, the gas operation is provided by a short-stroke gas piston. Firing is accomplished by a hammer and firing pin in the bolt, and ejection by a small blade opposite the ejection port. The weapon can be set to Safe, Fully Automatic, and Semi-Automatic, but Fully-Automatic is the intended purpose of the weapon. An AKM-style selector switch is located on the right side of the gun, which on safety hides a red dot. At its highest point the switch is on safety, its lowest on Fully-Automatic, and the middle position on Semi-Automatic. The Stock is a vertically folding stock which can serve as a crude bipod when folded, although an accessory bipod is recommended. The magazine is a two-column 45-round magazine, but higher capacity drum magazines can be used. A new feature developed by Izhevskian Arms Devision is the "Quick-Release" Guard, Where the trigger guard is disconnected from the pistol grip or receiver, and has a special notch on it which holds the magazine in place. When the firer's trigger finger presses against the trigger guard, it disengages from the magazine and the magazine falls out. However, this can only occur when the magazine follower exerts force on the release sear, located above the release. This makes it so that in normal combat, the recoil of the final round of a magazine will almost automatically release the magazine, greatly decreasing reload time. However, if for other purposes the magazine must be released, an auxiliary release switch is located on the receiver side.

I recommend you post this, and any future designs, on The Draftroom (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?act=idx), for review by its members.

Also, why are you not posting in our thread? :D

Would anyone be so kind as to re-do the image? I suck at lineart :\ If anyone could polish it up I'd be grateful.
