Advisory to martime commerce in immediate Hineveyan vicinity: rumors of pirate attack

A few hours ago, there was an unsubstantiated rumor that a ship of unknown design and flying no flag attacked and destroyed a small commercial Hineveyan vessel carrying precious cargo. We do not know if this report is true or not, but our nation does not have the naval projection power at present to secure our own immediate waters. But it would make sense that piracy would flourish in a rough-and-tumble environment where the immediate territorial borders have not been secured and the job opportunities are somewhat lacking in Hineve.

Therefore we put out this advisory to all commercial vessels operating within our territorial waters: use extreme caution. This is a rumor only at present, but this alas is not without precedent. We just put several thousand people out of work when one of our companies went under, and maybe some of them have a grudge against this nation. It is possible however unlikely that some of them have taken to preying on maritime commerce. We are building up our navy as fast as we can, and hopefully we can at least drive the alleged pirates out in the deeper waters.

Off the Coast of Hineve

The Beatusian Freighter Klingon was passing by Hineve when the advisory was made. The ship decided to be cautious, and reduced it's speed to 15 knots. Lookouts were posted, to ensure the safety of they're precious cargo. They had been way from the Beatus for a while, long before the outbreak occurred, so there was no chance of spreading the infection.

RE: Suspected Pirate Activity

This an alert to Tolvanic flagged civillian vessels operating in the vicinity of Hineve. We have received unconfirmed reports of pirate activity off the coast of Hineve. Be advised that MEC does not currently operate a convoy system off Hineve and that Hineve lacks sufficient naval power to secure the area. We recommend all Tolvanic vessels avoid the area if possible. Report any pirate contact to MEC immediately. There are currently no plans to deploy Tolvanic forces to the region.

Good to hear. I am ashamed to admit that piracy is like a opportunistic plague itself, and so I doubt this will be the last time this problem surfaces. We just don't have a navy nearly large enough to patrol our maritime borders. Hopefully this problem will stay confined to just Hineve.

Ominously we cannot actually find any trace of the Hineveyan ship that was reported missing. Which either means it was somehow lost in a freak accident, or it was destroyed and the remains towed away. We don't have any evidence to really substantiate either theory, just wild rumors.

*Patching Data transfer to Admiral James Fox*

In the past, previous pirate attacks have overpowered individual vessels or even poorly defended convoys on occasion. Customary ship armament has been at best large support machine guns. Attacking ships small but fast. Pirates usually plain-clothing with minimal identifying marks, traditionally equipped with small arms of varying power and the occasional grenade. Uncommonly (though not as uncommon as I'd like) have even been known to wear stolen or off-the-shelf body-armor. And this has been the case usually off traditional Hineveyan waters with regard to piracy. Benefits of having a poor navy.
