[OOC] Recruitment for RP

Tokarev
05-06-2008, 07:35
[OOC: My nation, Tokarev, has existed for a while, but was deactivated for disuse. I ony recently reactivated it, and the population as it stands is around 4 billion. I am hoping to start an RP soon, and I am posting this preliminary thread to see if anyone is interested in following up on it. It will, of course, be open to anyone, but I would like some definite interest before I start anything.

Anyway, I want to do something slightly different with my RP. Essentially, Tokarev is in political purgatory. There is, technically, a central government based in the capital city of Agibna. However, Agribna has become a bit of a city-state. It only directly concerns itself with internal issues, and exerts only nominal influence on surrounding regions. Several other power centers exist scattered around the nation, but for the most part it has disintegrated into isolated localities:

Western cordillera: coastal fishing villages entered into economic relationships with higher altitude farms (providing tubers and cereals) and mining communities (providing bauxite, iron, limestone, phosphate, salt, and some precious metals). In terms of infrastructure, there is extensive irrigation and water treatment systems, mining facilities, thermal and hydroelectric power generation, and a few major ports. This part of the country is more economically and political independent than others.
Eastern tropics: loosely populated mangroves, swamps, and tropical forest in which subsistence-level hunter/gatherer populations eke out an existence. Timber, rubber, fruit/food products, freshwater fisheries, tobacco, tin, and petroleum desposits are available, but are largely untapped. Very little in terms of infrastructure, except for one minor port and some oil pipelines. This is the poorest part of the country.
Northern plain, river valleys: dense population centers contest with each other for resources. Much of countries fresh water reservoirs in this region, other resources include beef (a lot of ranchers), food (large-scale farming of wheat, beans, and other major cash crops). In terms of infrastructure, there are some airports and extensive railroad/highway systems, as well as several large cities.
Central wetlands: the semitropical center of the nation, where the capital is situated, is heavily populated. The Agribnazote River, by which the capital is named, flows from hear to the east. It is bordered by savannah and dry forest. Sugar is its major export. In terms of infrastructure, the city of Agribna is large and modern, with electricity and telecommunications systems, airports, highways, public transportation, etc. The surrounding area is the industrial center of Tokarev (notable industries include steel, cement, automotive, with some textiles and petrochemical). This is also the richest part of the country.

The military is largely confined to the central wetlands near the capital, with a few bases to the West. The east is more or less doing its own thing. The north has cordial relations with the central government, but growing urban poverty is breeding dissent.

The premise of the RP involves the death of the long-time president of Tokarev, General Dobauron. He held the country together, politically and economically, largely by force-of-will, and with his death the different parts of the country largely drift away from each other (except through what transactions are mutually necessary). With Dobauron's death, the military seizes control of the capital, and the north breaks out in civil strife. The West is more or less complacent, although nervous about token military presence, and the East is too unsettled for much of anything to happen.

Essentially, Tokarev dissolves. However, there are a wealth of natural resources to tap, and a large population (4 billion) for labor. So, some countries out there want to annex parts of the nation for their own uses. I am hoping, then, to start an RP in which various nations invade Tokarev and try to set up little fiefs here, coming into odds with each other and local parties, while trying, also, to negotiate alliances and whatnot. So, essentially, I am giving my nation over to whoever wants to RP having a big-ass war, here.

This is a basic overview (when the RP starts I will go into more detail about geography and demography, etc., and I will include a map). Anyone interested?

EDIT: And ignore my signature, it is four years out of date]

I'm interested. I will also involve Greal's biggest companies which are usually known for colonizing land.

I'll have one of my men and send them to colonize the wetlands. Some competition would be nice

I'm game, my navy could support an effort to secure the western coast. For the good of the locals of course, although Artican businesses won't be refused permission to start carrying out business in the region. In fact we'll have to get them interested to help maintain the area. We could cooperate with local military units or not- its up to them, but we certainly won't tolerate any piracy or banditry.

I might be interested in taking part. It might depend upon the details and whether or not I can find an appropriate IC 'in' to invade and whatnot. So you could mark me down as interested.

I'd be interested in sending an expedition to establish a colony. I could set up shop in the eastern tropics.

Allright, I will bump this thread up a couple more times, then early next week I will start the RP. Thanks for the interest.

The North sounds like an idea area for "Aggressive Missionary Activity"...large population centres and good infrastructure for rapid expansion, plenty of food supplies and a significant population to be converted (very politically popular in the Imperial Faith Union) and potentially drafted into the Seventh. The terrain is also broadly similar to northwestern Isam.

Not to mention that food supplies are always helpful to a nation of Isam's population.

There's also always the possibility of expansion to the south.

Why not I might join in, I am kind of new to NS but I think I know what I got to do. Count me in!

I'd definately be interested, but ICly, I think the German Empire (MT me) would be most concerned with holding Tokarev together. Is that okay?

I'm game, Greywatch is kinda a PMT nation in many respects but I can do MT too if that's what this is supposed to be. My nation will prolly come in from the east and slowly expand from there with military forces.

I might be interesting in sending my Navy to show the flag off the Western cordillera.

You have a map we could use? Just wanted to know.

How about a joint intervention Tolvan- to ensure the security of this economically important region- where we each have our own sphere of influence? We can decide on the details later, when the map comes out, but if we go as close to fifty-fifty as possible and agree to defend each other's bases and personnel if a third party attacks them we could have a good thing going.

I'll have to look at the map and see what the lay of land looks like. I may just deploy a small force and support them via UNREP rather establishing an actual base.

I was going to sign up, but then I saw all the noobs, and I figured the thread would devolve pretty quickly. So, sorry, but no deal.

Looked interesting though. I was going to set up a few fortress trading posts on the west, emulating a New Amsterdam type approach.

Who would be 'all the noobs' of which you speak?

If we go strictly by join date then most of the nations posting so far have been here longer than you. That would make the "noob" in this thread.

'cept for me of course. Hey, when is this thing going to start properly anyway?

My nation is quite interested in the petroleum reserves in the East. Having our own supply instead of depending upon import would be hugely beneficial. Count me in for a relatively small scale expedition.

Map would be nice.
