Alright, RP sign up for a thread I’ll start tomarrow or a few days from now. It takes place in a solar system just outside the galactic disk that, from afar, doesn’t seem to be to unique. However, extensive scans/massing the star reveals that it is ultraluminescent, meaning that it is releasing to much energy/light for a star its mass. Further more, once someone gets into the system, a remarkable find is that the entire place - planets, asteroids, and comets, are radioactive.
Misc info is that its 5.6 light years away from a neutron star.
Basically what happens is that not to long ago a Sertian patrol stumbled upon this system and discovered an exotic material they named Z3 that’s responsible for what seems to be most of the phenomena of the system. They’ve discovered that Z3 is most likely a form of baryonic matter that, after a certain point, absorbs energy and releases it as quantum particles that show a remarkable ability to quantum tunnel past electron clouds and destabilize atom’s nucleons. So far the Sertians plan to utilize the Z3 in fusion applications, for it proves to be a reusable substance that can enhance fusion reactions from 400% (their current level of refinement) to 1000% (weapons grade, 99.99% pure Z3), and plan to utilize Z3 for their new wave of ships.
What I’m hoping for this RP is for various races to come, including members of the UGF and/or Hermes Alliance, Cybrian Circle, etc etc. Any ships in the area would be forced to sign a diplomatic agreement to respect the Sertians unrestricted control of mining within the system, or be forced to leave.
Idealy the ships would remain neutral as the Sertians get to explain and show off what Z3 is (after they’ve got agreements from all ships in the area that prevents them from swooping in and taking it for themselves), but then it can go into two different ways.
A) Everyone leaves peacefully, perhaps trying to acquire trade agreements with the Sertians for samples of Z3.
B) Everyone bursts out into fighting, wither to gain the system (and the Z3) for themselves, or because they can’t stand the sight of one another. If this happens, as I’m actually expecting it to, the Admiral in charge of the facility will be alerted by a scientist who had managed to purify some weapon’s grade Z3 in secret, and design an enhanced Star-Fusion Bomb to utilize a Z3 core. This would, be in essence, a super weapon with potentially devastating effects if used on a planet.
Of course, I believe everyone should have a chance to influence an RP, so depending on the outcomes the Sertians might be wiped out before they can engineer the Z3 Fusion Weapon and utilize it, or it could go in a completely unexpected direction. But given we could all use a bit of action, it might help if you send a fleet with a relatively unimportant/unknown commander in case an all out brawl erupts, or have ships fast enough to get the fuck out of dodge when the weapon detonates.
