Outbreak in the Beatus (Open MT)

The Beatus
02-06-2008, 08:02
Site 227, Beatusian Archaeological Dig
2:17 AM Local time

Professor David Stetson held his battery powered lantern up to what appeared to be a stone tablet of some kind. He brushed some of the dirt off of it, and recognized the script as an ancient Beatusian writing. An hour later, he had finished the translation, it read,

The Great Bob's will is great, only those whose heart is pure shall find the secret they seek. All others shall parish at his hands, for they serve the darkness. Only those who have followed the Path shall see the Great Bob's treasures. Stop now if you have strayed towards the distractions along the path, Gluttony, Lust, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, or Pride.

Professor Stetson wrote the inscription off as hogwash to scare of grave robbers. He dug around and found the edges, he pulled, and the stone moved outward, reveling a new cave. The batteries on his lamp were dying so he ran down to his truck to replace them. When he returned, he entered the cave. It was more like a small, and damp. There was pools of water in some places. The walls were smooth, and the tunnel was rectangular. There appeared to be what looked like holders for torches on the walls. The professor noted everything in his journal, which he had used to decipher the tablet. The tunnel began widening as it approached a room. He caught sight of a reflection of light as he neared the room, and the closer he got, the brighter the reflection got. When he reached the room, he nearly dropped his lantern. This was the largest archaeological find in the Beatus. There were gold statues, silver dishtware, ornate carved tablets. Even some scrolls and glassware. Finally he had found something. He had be conducting dig out in the mountains for years, and turned up nothing. He rushed back up the tunnel, past the stone tablet, back down to his truck. If he hurried, he could be the first person in the dean's office back at the university. With any luck, he would be coming back with a whole team, and some university grant money to fully excavate the site. He got in his truck, and sped out down the mountain road. Sunrise was at 5:47 AM, and the Professor was passing through a small town, when the visions began. He started seeing things that weren't there. While attempting to convince an imaginary six foot tale rabbit in the seat next to him, that the earth was indeed round, his truck ran off the road into a ravine. He was found about an hour later by a passing motorist, who noticed the broken guardrail, and called emergency response. When the police and paramedics arrived, he was already dead. They removed the body from the car, and drove him to the hospital anyway, doing CPR all the way. He was pronounced dead at 7:15 AM. It was obvious that he had died from the car accident, and it was assumed that he had simply been going too fast in the dark on the winding mountain roads. No autopsy was preformed. At 12:02 pm, the two paramedics who had worked on Professor Stetson were admitted to the local hospital. They were suffering from hallucinations, inspiratory chest pain, cough, chills, shortness of breath, and a slight fever. By 2 pm they're fevers were near 104 degrees F., they're breathing had worsened, and they had lost consciousness. At 6:05 pm the fevers were around 106 degrees F., causing death. By that time, many more people were in, presenting the same symptoms. By the next day, 142 were dead, and the disease was spreading.

Official Statement from the Beatus

To the Citizens of the Beatus

An epidemic is sweeping the Beatus. All Military personnel within the nation are being called up to defend National Government Institutions. All Government Personnel are to stay and they immediate families are to seek refuge at they're offices, which are equipped with safeguards to ensure that they are safe from biological, chemical, and nuclear attacks, which will ensure your safety in these times. Be sure to have your id cards, as the military will be working security, and will not allow you or your family in with out them. All other citizens are asked to remain calm, and stay in your homes. Local police forces are to coordinate with provincial law enforcement agencies to attempt a quarantine at this time, and to prevent panic, and rioting.

To the International Community,

The Theocratic Republic of the Beatus requests immediate assistance in the form of both medical and law enforcement personnel. We have a currently unidentified infectious disease running rampant in our nation. Initial symptoms that have been reported are hallucinations, inspiratory chest pain, cough, chills, shortness of breath, and a slight fever. Within approximately two to two and a half hours of the presenting of the original symptoms the fever rises to approximately 104 degrees F., breathing worsens, and they enter a coma. With in approximately four hours they are dead. The cause of death varies from Asphyxia, due to Pleurisy, as illustrated by the initial symptoms, or they die from an extremely high fever, in excess of 106 degrees F. We also fear that there will be a breakdown of civil order, and that there will be a need of assistance with law enforcement duties. Currently Provincial, and Local authorities are attempting to enact a quarantine around the infected areas, but it may already be too late, and National authorities are currently ensuring the safety of national government offices and the employees within them. We request assistance immediately. We have stopped all traffic from leaving the nation, which includes diplomatic traffic traveling from embassies. All flights currently in the air are being recalled, and any flights that have recently landed in your nations from ours should be quarantined immediately. We are also enacting a travel warning to any, and all persons attempting to enter the Beatus that they do so at they're own risk.

This was a problem, Greal bordered The Beatus. Greal authorities began closing the borders, but it was too late.

----------------

Outbreaks were reported in small towns bordering the Beatus. Greal quarantined the towns, but it may have been too late. Plenty of people ran for their lives from the outbreaks, deeper into the countryside. Greal police were ordered to watch out for any outbreaks.

To The Guyvers,

All ships and planes have been ordered to turn back. If they choose to disregard that order, we are currently in no position to track them down, and stop them. We suggest you begin patrols, as we have not yet accounted for all ships and planes that have left the Beatus today, and if they plan not to return, they would most certainly not go to they're scheduled destination.

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CONSUL, GAIUS JULIUS CAESAR

Greetings, Government of The Beatus. I sincerely sympathize with your imminent destruction at the hands of deadly viral agents. May I recommend burning all infected towns and villages? It worked for me in Gaul... I am afraid I am unable to risk any Roman citizens to aid your (thankfully) quite distant nation; but let it never be said that Caesar is an heartless leader! On the contrary, out of compassion alone, I am sending 50 of my finest (and I mean ugliest) slaves on a plastic-wrapped barge as we speak. Or rather, as I write. They were destined for the Colisseum anyway, so feel free to place them in any kind of danger, as long as they may be of use to you.

Warm, yet distant regards,

~Consul Gaius Julius Caesar

P.S. Please reply by electronic mail...it is...cleaner. I may be reached at: Gaius_Conquers_You@gmail.com

To Dr. Thomas Spyridon,

Your aircraft is cleared to land at Edwardo Listless Air Force Base, just out side our capital, the City of the Blessed. Your team will be met by a group from our Department of Public Health, what they lack in they're woefully underfunded budget, which comes completely from corporate grants, and private donations, they make up for in know how, and determination. They should have all the information you want, at least all that we know at this time. We have recalled all of our ships and aircraft, but have no course of action at this time, if they chose not to obey such orders. We still have 5 ships, and 7 aircraft unaccounted for. They have not arrived at they're scheduled destinations, and we are unsure if they are still out there, as they may have already been infected with the disease, and those on board may be dead. We have been burning the dead.

Orbath
03-06-2008, 04:58
Off The Western Coast Of Orbath - 13:46
The Anasyrma Class Corvette made by Yanitaria, known as the ONS Interceptor was on patrol as part of a larger group which ensured no ship that wasn't registered or scheduled to enter Orbathian waters was allowed to do so. The ship's crew had a rather easy task, it wasn't often they had to board a ship. They saw relatively little activity. Things picked up when the little corvette received a message.

Attention - A Beatusian Cargo Ship designated Alpha 001 is headed towards port. There is a chance that this ship may contain those infected with a new virus recently found in Beatus. The government of Beatus has attempted to contact the ship, however these attempts have been unsuccessful. That ship needs to be located and quarantined. NBC gear is to be worn, however, no boarding party is to enter the ship.

Commander Reg Osgood brought his crew up to speed, holding an emergency officer's meeting. Meanwhile, all weapons were brought up to standby and all personnel donned NBC suits. The ONS Interceptor would coordinate with it's other four corvette counterparts, the ONS Excellence, a Lyran made Hatchet Class Frigate and of course, it's patrol aircraft, two SH-60 Seahawks.

The task was certainly not an easy one. They had a large plot of Orbathian water to search. The ship was supposed to travel through their patrol zone, but if it didn't, it would likely be caught by the other patrol groups.

One of the SH-60 was patrolling far ahead of it's frigate, when it detected a blip on radar. The blip was quickly cross referenced, after all, it could simply be another ship. However, no ships were scheduled to pass through that particular zone at that time. The pilot was sure he had found the ship. He radioed the ship on many frequencies, attempting to raise a crew member. If that failed, he would have to get a visual on the ship.

Off The Western Coast Of Orbath

The Beatusian Cruise Ship Hyperbole, which had diverted from it's scheduled course, drifted towards the Orbathian helicopter. Records showed that there had been approximately 1,500 passengers on board, and 600 crew, and servants. It was difficult to see on the dark water. The ship was devoid of any sources of light, and it's engines were off. It was simply drifting in the water.

Off The Western Coast Of Orbath - 14:23
The pilot, having failed to raise the ship by radio, moved in, attempting to get a closer look and confirm the ship was indeed the one they were looking for. He hovered high over the ocean, looking down upon the ship.

''That ship doesn't seem to have any power, no lights, no engine, nothing.''

The copilot responded.

''It makes it hard to tell if it is the ship we are looking for, we need to get closer, pull along the starboard side, I'll get Axon to shine the spotlight on the ship.''

The pilot reduced altitude, coming even closer the ship but taking care to ensure not to get close enough that if the ship rocked, he would be hit. The man in the back, Axon, shined the powerful light onto the hull of the ship, seeking out a name. Once found, he checked it with the name of the Beatusian ship in the log. Sure enough, the Hyperbole sat below on the waters.

Axon turned his spotlight to the deck of the ship, searching for signs of life. Meanwhile, the pilot radioed the ONS Excellence, informing the group commander of their find. Within minutes, two of the four Anasyrma Class Corvettes sped towards the ship.

Off The Western Coast Of Orbath

The deck was deserted. Towels lay on deck chairs, and inflatable chairs floated in the many pools on board, but no sign of any life, no people. No signs of life. No movement but the rocking of the boat. All the life boats were intact, and in they're proper storage area.

Axon couldn't believe it, nor could the pilot or co pilot. There was no sign of life anywhere and the lifeboats remained in place. They were looking at a ghost ship. The pilot wondered if perhaps the entire crew and passengers had somehow been rescued before they reached Orbathian waters.

14:56

The ONS Interceptor was the first corvette to arrive on scene, positioning itself so that if need be, it could use both of it's 85mm cannons on the ship.

15:10
The second corvette, the ONS Capture, arrived, positioning itself on the other side of the ship, aiming it's 85mm guns at the hull.

15:32
The ONS Interceptor received a message from the ONS Excellence. They had been authorized to allow a boarding party to enter the ship.

In the armory, a section (8 men) of Orbathian soldiers grabbed everything they would need, ranging from AY-143 rifles to body armor, to be worn over their NBC suits of course. Meanwhile, the corvette pulled alongside the Hyperbole. Because the ship was so large, they would have to use grappling hooks, climbed by the soldiers to gain access to the ship.

One by one, the soldiers climbed up the large naval ropes and upon reaching the decks, took up an all around defense, pointing their various Yanitarian made weapons into the unknown.

They stood on the main deck, Deck C, which was painted in large black letters on the wall in front of them. Windows into guests rooms lined the wall they were facing. To they're right, toward the stern of the ship, was an open area, where the main pool was, and beyond that was the Main dinning room. To they're left toward bow were more passenger cabins, and eventually the video arcade. Just to they're right was a stairway down to the lower decks. This was all explained by signs on the wall with arrows pointing left or right near the stairway that came from below.

Unfortunately for the section, they had little knowledge of the layout of the ship. Luckily for them, their orders were not to clear the ship, merely seek out living survivors. All they had to do was find one, and their mission would be completed. If none were found, the ship would be torched.

Fire team Alpha headed forward, stacking up along the wall allowing Cpl Wilson the chance to shine the flashlight mounted on his rifle barrel into what appeared to be guest rooms.

Bravo fire team headed left, towards more passenger cabins. Instead of the windows, however, they came across a door that lead inside. The team stacked up outside the door while the team commander, Master Corporal Howard, prepared to boot in the door.

''1...2..3!''

His shiny black combat boot connected with the door, easily throwing it inwards. He raised his rifle, a shortened AY-143 and rushed in, two of the three remaining fire team members rushing in behind him, leaving the Grenadier to cover their rear.

The Corporal was clearly freaked out. Everything was in place as though someone had been in the rooms, but nobody could be inside. The Alpha fire team commander pushed the mouthpiece on his headset a little closer to his mouth, allowing him to speak into more clearly.

''Shark One (ONS Interceptor), this is Alpha, we've come upon a set of passenger cabins, we didn't make entry but there is no sign of life through the windows. The luggage and everything is present though, over''

''Roger that Alpha, continue your search, there is a possibility that the passengers were moved, check larger areas, maybe a dining hall or auditorium, out''

The Corporal had remembered an arrow and the word ''dining hall' pointing right. They headed in that direction, stacking up outside the dining room doors. The team leader rushed in through the double swinging doors, followed by two of three teammates, weapons at the ready, casting the light from their flashlights into the very dark room.

Howard found himself skidding across a slippery floor, into and over a railing, onto the deck below. He let out a cry of pain seconds after hitting the deck. He wasn't dead and he quickly, without moving too much, checked himself over for injuries. He felt pain in his right leg and when he looked down, he noticed his leg was bent off to the side at a very odd angle. He swore to himself, knowing it was broken.

The first team mate behind him, a rifleman, also fell, though not over the railing, merely onto the floor before it. He quickly rolled onto his stomach, pointing his rifle in all directions and scanning for any sign of life.

The Gunner behind him stopped short, managing not to fall on the slippery floor. He remained standing, pointing his rifle in all directions, searching for any sign of life.

Admiralty House, Spoletium, Anselmus

Admiral Bill Lawrence, Imperial Navy Chief of Staff, frowned at the orders which had just come down from the Council of Ministers. After the Directorate of Foreign Intelligence delivered satellite reconnaissance images to the Prime Minister which showed Orbathian military vessels intercepting a drifting ship of Beatusian registry just off the Orbathian coast, it was decided that the Anselmian Imperial Navy not only intercept all Beatusian vessels entering Anselmian waters, but also that the Navy would put any ship, Beatusian or otherwise, that did not respond to radio communication on the bottom of the ocean. There were no reported outbreaks in Anselmus, and PM Jacques Delacroix was determined that that remain the case.

HIMS Blackfriars, 200nm SW of Massilia

The new guided missile destroyer HIMS Blackfriars had only just arrived at her new home base of Naval Station Massilia after her first operational cruise when orders came in from the Admiralty to turn around and head back out again. Orders, her crew were told, would be provided en route.

And so here they were, 200 nautical miles off the Anselmian/Orbathian coast when the promised orders arrived. Commander Martin Dainville, captain of the ship, passed the printout back to his executive officer and sighed.

"Another stupid mission, XO. Looking for Beatusian vessels that decided to keep going to their destinations despite orders to the contrary. Intel from the Admiralty suggests no Beatusian vessels were inbound to this part of the country, but we're to keep a look out, just in case. Every ship we find we are to hail, and if they don't answer, we are to shoot first and ask questions later. Sounds like a fun way to start a diplomatic crisis if you ask me."

The executive officer grinned and nodded.

"Agreed, Skipper. But now that we've just ironed the kinks out of old Blackie here, I see no reason why we don't take her for a spin."

"Good, good. Let's get this started. Our backup on this one consists of Shortlands and Chatelet, both of which will be operating in this area. We'll coordinate efforts with them if we find anything."

"Aye, aye, Captain. Let's do this."

The light from fire team alpha's flashlights landed on empty chairs, and tables with half eaten meals on them. There was a stage, on which was a microphone, a drum set, and some guitars leaning against the wall.

The any light from the open door on C deck did not reach Howard down on D deck, which was also quiet, and had no apparent signs of life. On C deck, Bravo Fire team found no signs of life. There was equipment used to wax the floors next the the stairwell, apparently left in the middle of the job. The hallway continued to the other side of the ship. Nearby was room marked crew only.

"I understand. What can you tell me about this disease? How is it spread?" the radio crackled. He was hoping to get this done quickly. Having grown up in a colony in Africa, he has seen first hand what viruses can do to populations. In the distance, he saw the landing site. He would have to refuel the plane there in order to make it back once he got the sample.

"I'm just a pilot, not a doctor," the voice crackled again. "You'll have to wait for us to land for that info. We are approuching the destination, so we will be breaking off. The airport is straight ahead, go low, and look for the lights, you should be fine. There's no air traffic but the three of us so you should be fine, no need to radio the tower, your cleared for landing."

As you know, the Federation Province of Tungsten directly borders The Beatus. Thus, it is of concern to me that an epidemic has broken out in your nation. We have initiated a state of Semi-Lockdown, as well as started up curfews and travel restrictions. No transports are being permitted in or out of Tungsten. We have had no cases of this disease yet.

However, as your neighbor, I am willing to dispatch officers from the Tungsten Civilian Control Unit as well as the soldiers of the Provincial Protection Garrison that are not Federal troops to help keep the order and manage the quarantines. Currently, I am vying for permission to deploy Federal forces to further strengthen the aid being sent. We also wish for permission to obtain live subjects infected with the disease whenever needed, without resistance from Beatusian doctors.

Alpha
The dining room gave off a very eerie feeling. There was certainly something very, very strange going on. Alpha's commander, Master Corporal Robinson couldn't believe his eyes.

''What do you make of this?'' He asked, keeping his rifle trained into the dining room, despite the fact that there was no immediate threat.

''It's like we are on some sort of ghost ship. I'm starting to think this ship may have been abandoned,'' the Corporal replied, he to kept his rifle at the ready.

''Without lifeboats, either they went into the water, or they were rescued.''

The team remained silent, fanning out and checking through the dining room. The team leader sought out some sort of map, he figured there must be one posted on the wall.

Bravo
Howard looked around him, shining his light in all directions. He was in complete darkness, except for the light mounted on his rifle. Although he'd never admit it to his comrades, he was actually afraid. Not the kind of fear one might get from bullets flying over your head, but a lot like how a kid might feel when watching a scary movie alone. He needed comfort, and he knew that would come from hearing his comrades' voices. He spoke through his headset, a hint of pain in his voice.

''I'm still alive, but it's kinda dead down here. I think I broke my leg''

The man who had been covering the rear, walked slowly into the waxed hallway, closing the large door behind him. The rifleman, gunner and grenadier conversed about their next course of action. They were almost entirely sure the ship was empty and now their leader needed treatment. The 2IC, Corporal Walker switched frequencies, now speaking to the ONS Interceptor.

''This is Bravo, Bravo One is injured, broken leg. Requesting permission to return.''

In all normal circumstances, the team would have typically been allowed to return. The problem was, nobody actually knew if anyone on the ship had the disease, nobody had any idea how it spread and nobody wanted to risk bringing it back to Orbath.

''Bravo One, permission denied, you are ordered to remain on that ship until more is found out about the disease. You are effectively under quarantine.''

In most militaries, there would have been complaints. Not in the Orbathian military, service members knew better. The team knew they were stuck.

''Acknowledged, permission to recover Bravo One, move to secure location and discontinue search?''

''Affirmative and Alpha, I'll see if I can have a doctor flown in, out.''

The members of Bravo checked the walls for a sign that pointed the way to stairs which would lead to the lower deck, so they could rescue their fallen comrade.

A think fog drifted over the ship, making any helicopter flights impossible, and blocking out the light from the moon, and stars.

The stairs down to D deck were directly opposite where from where Howard had landed. They were steel, with non-slip padding on them, to ensure that people didn't slip when they used them.

There was a folded map at the Hostess's podium near the doors to the dinning room. It noted the locations of the crew quarters, engine room, bridge, sickbay, generator room, among many other things.

Robinson studied the map he had found, checking out the overall layout of the ship before deciding the team's next course of action. He decided that there was no possible area the entire ships' crew and passengers could fit. He did notice an area of interest. Perhaps if they made their way to the generator room, they could restore power, making the ship easier to search. He ordered his team to move out, tactically moving through the halls, passing a sign marked ''crew only'' to a massive metal door that lead into the generator room. The team stacked up outside the door as Robinson pulled it open, tossing a flare inside, hoping to light up the room. He rushed in, followed by the rifleman and gunner, armed with a shotgun and submachine gun.

Bravo
The three healthy members of Bravo team made their way to the stairs. One member, the grenadier remained on the above deck, covering the team's rear while the other two began the climb down the stairs. Both made their way over to Howard, who was more than happy to see them.

''Finally decided to show up,'' Howard said jokingly, with a slightly feeble voice.

''Good to see you, Howard,'' Corporal Walker replied, noting the slight weakness in the man's voice.

He paused for a moment, pulling a small first aid kit off of his tactical vest. He checked Howard's leg over quickly. The break was just below the knee, so luckily, it didn't require immediate attention. The problem was transporting the man. His leg was bent at an odd angle, so it couldn't be splinted. He thought back to his various first aid classes, trying to think of a way to carry the man without injuring him. He decided not to risk hurting the man's leg trying to carry him piggy back style, instead, he would require a blanket and hopefully, a long sturdy object. He asked his team mate to go search for one.

Private Adams wasn't happy, after all the ship was rather creepy. He moved down a nearby hallway, searching out guest or crew rooms.

20 miles south of New Klim

Quarantine officials managed to halt the spread of the disease, temporarily giving Greal Disease Control Agencies time to prepare. The disease had left four hundred and sixty people dead in a town of one thousand people alone. The death toll was growing, steadily. There was no mention of it in the newspapers because the Greal Government was afraid of panicking its population. Meanwhile, roads were closed, for unknown reasons to the public.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Quarantine workers were assembled and sent to the disease areas. They had quarantined several towns and villages already, and stopped people from heading to New Klim. Anyone with early symptoms were stopped immediately.

The Generator room was small. There were many gauges and switches in the room. The generators showed no apparent damage, and it appeared as if the generators had been shutdown.

Some of the rooms Private Adams attempted to enter were locked. Others had the chain on the door, allowing the door to be opened only slightly. Halfway down the hallway, he found a housekeeping closet with brooms, mops, sheets, blankets, and pillowcases.

''The doors locked with the chain could only be locked from the inside. There had to be someone inside those rooms.''

He knew his other team mates couldn't help him, one was providing cover from above, the other was treating the injured. He would have to check out the room himself. He ran back towards his injured friend, but kept an eye out behind him, ensuring that nobody could leave the rooms without him noticing.
He threw the supplies beside the injured man, speaking with excitement.

''Those rooms back there, locked from the inside, there has to be someone in them!''

His two team mates, thought about a course of action, just like he had.

''I'll go back and kick open a door, I'll be fine.''

The men were reluctant to let him go alone, but they knew that if he found live, uninfected people, their injured comrade could get treatment.

Adams stood outside one of those doors, pointing his rifle towards it. He counted to himself, kicking in the door, shining his light in, sure he would find someone.

Alpha team had a long way to go from the Generator room, to the bridge. The door to the bridge was locked, and bulletproofed to prevent hijacking attempts.

We have, however boarding parties have not found any sign of life, except for a dog. Upon arrival, the ship was motionless, with no power.

Alpha
The men stood outside the door marked bridge, but realized the door was locked, and bullet resistant, after all, nothing was truly bullet proof. There wasn't room to employ a rifle grenade or a rifle fired door breaching charge, so instead, C-4 would have to be used. The C-4 was placed on the door, hopefully just enough to blow it off its hinges. A detonator was hooked up and the team made their way around the corner.

''1...2...3''

The button was pushed.

Bravo
Walker noticed they had passed a room marked sick bay. He and Adams set down Howard and he went back and tried to open the door. It was locked, so he gave it a good boot.

A blip appeared on the RADAR screen of the Orbathian ship. Eventually, the old North Carolina class battleship drifted out of the fog.

As the C4 detonated, the bridge door's hinges were ripped out of the wall, and it fell into the bridge area. The cruise ship appeared rather old, as all of the bridge equipment was. Nearby a record player was playing into the microphone of the PA system.

The door to the sickbay flew open. There were cots, and cabinets with medical supplies. There was also a refrigerator and pantry with food and drinks.

"This Aissur Transport 001, Roger that." Said the Pilot as he nosed the Aircraft down.

The Large Transport landed onto the Runway. The doors opened up and the Troops began to unload the supplies.
------------------------------
"Search for a name." Said the Captain.

"Roger that. Coming alongside of it. Turn the spotlights on." Said the Sailor.

Spotlights illuminated the hull of the ship as the Men onboard attempted to find the name.

Understood, however at this time, no personnel from the Beatus will be allowed near Orbathian military personnel without full NBC gear. Furthermore, we would like more information regarding the virus. We need to know anything you do.

Alpha
The team rushed into the bridge, and cleared it. After doing so, they took the needle off of the record on the player.

''This is Alpha, we have located the bridge.''

The ONS Interceptor responded, piggy backing a message sent from high command.

''Beatus' Navy is going to provide support. You are to remain in the bridge, ensure the radio is working. We may need you to pilot the ship. For now, search out any logs, the captain may have left something that will tell us what happened.''

The team heard their orders and one man checked the radio while the others searched for the captain's log.

Bravo
The team rushed around the corner and entered the room, weapons held high. Upon finding the room empty, they brought Howard in a put him on the cot. They checked the cabinets for medical supplies and the fridge for food.

''We have transported Bravo One to a safe location, please advise.''

''Sit tight Bravo One, we are in the process of getting more information about the virus.''

At that time, all long range communications equipment on the Orbathian ships went dead. They were no longer receiving singles. As did the GPS equipment. Communications with the teams on the ship was still intact. Then a radio transmission from the BNS Prometheus was received. "This is the BNS Prometheus. We are here to assist in the recovery of the Hyperbole. We are preparing a launch to send troops over to the ship now."

The radio equipment on the cruise ship was not operational. The casing was broken open, and clumps of wiring rested on the floor below the radio equipment. The weapons locker, which was off the bridge, was empty, though record sheets showed that it should contain 5 M14 rifles, and 20 colt M1911 pistols, and ammunition for the above. The captains quarters was also off the bridge. The door was closed, and apparently locked from the outside. Someone had put in a crude lock device over it.

OOC: I don't mind, I'm pretty sure he is trying to set a mood and make things ''mysterious''.

The ship's crews attempted to restore communications but could not. Then they got a message from the Prometheus. Since they couldn't respond, the ropes on which the men had climbed onto the cruise ship were removed and the two corvettes headed a little farther away from the ship. They wanted to prevent any interaction with those from the Beatus.

Alpha noted that the radio equipment was broken. Upon searching, they located a weapons locker and the Captain's quarters. The weapon's locker was locked with a crude lock, so one of the fire team members pulled out a crow bar and began hitting it, attempting to bust it open. Meanwhile, another fire team member aimed his shotgun at the crude lock and fired, then at the doorknob and fired.

The door to the captains quarters glided open from the force of the shotgun. There were scribbled pictures of indiscernible objects on the walls. They use allot of red in them, and some appeared to have vague human shapes. The captains body was crouched in the corner. He was clearly dead, and had been for some time. He held a pencil in his hand, which appeared to have been used to gouge out his own eyes. There were scratch marks on the door, and fragments of wood under the captains finger nails. The captains logs were no use, as the paper from them was hung all along the wall, and the writing was illegible through the crude pictures.

Military teams in NBC suits greeted the Imbrinium teams at they're planes, and assisted with the unloading process. The suits were not needed, at least not that they knew off, but the order was, all military personnel, outside a sealed, structure with an air filtration purification system, were to be in full NBC gear until further notice. Dr. Lindsay Taylor from the Department of Public Health waited on for the medical team from Imbrinium. He was not wearing protective clothing, as there was no known case of the disease for miles. He was an elderly man, with white hair, which he dyed black, except his mustach, which was still white. He wore a pair of thick glasses, and walked with a cane.

Alpha
The members of Alpha team checked out the room. The Captain was clearly dead and the room was a complete mess. The most interesting thing was the fact that it appeared the Captain had been locked inside, which would explain the crude locking device. They wondered if perhaps it could have been the disease that had caused the man to go insane. They were thankful to be dressed in full NBC gear, despite the fact that it was quite uncomfortable.

''This is Alpha, we have located the Captain, dead, suicide by the looks of it, gouged his own eyes out. It also appears he may have been locked in his own room, perhaps he went insane?''

''Understood Alpha, you are to proceed at full alert, as though you are in conflict. I want you to link up with Bravo team in the sick bay.''

The members of Alpha team collected the weapons, slinging them on shoulders or the pistols were tucked into various locations on their tactical vests, uncomfortable but they couldn't be left lying around.

"Well, we have never seen this disease before. We have not yet pinned down a point of origin but we have a general area. We also do not have information on who was first infected. All we know is that it spread, and spread fast. It also caused a panic as it spread. Shortly after an area was infected, general panic usually led to a breakdown in communications. We also don't know about who was exposed but did not get sick, or if anyone has contracted the disease, but did not die. For this info, we must go into the field, we were waiting for you before going. This may be dangerous, as, depending on the source, there may be a threat of infection if we go looking for it, and those people will very likely shoot at us when we get to an infected area.
