Death in the Warp

Some time in the past, a rock, black as the night, covered in strange runes, not any larger than the fist of a fully grown man, had somehow entered the red space of the Warp, the so called Immaterium, the place which was the home of the so called "Chaos gods". As time passed, the black rock seemed to disappear into a dark void which slowly grew from it, seemingly consuming the red essence which surrounded it at a very slow pace. So slow, that after many, many years of it having existed within the Warp, it was just three times the size of the rock which had started it.

But it was large enough to attract attention, nonetheless.

A ghostly apparition appeared from the dark. It lingered there for a few moments, and then it disappeared back into the darkness as suddenly as it had appeared.

But shortly after, something even stranger happened.

A violent explosion of darkness took place as the area it covered suddenly grew to cover an area which would engulf even a gas giant. Then, as suddenly as this explosion had happened before it, the darkness began to shrink.

But it did not shrink to its earlier size, no.

An object the size of a small moon had materialized in the middle of the darkness which at this point had retreated close to the surface of this object. This planetoid was covered in the same runes as the rock which had been in its place originally, but none would ever actually see them. Beings walked upon its surface. Beings composed of shadows.

A single spectral creature hovered amongst them, almost invisible with the fluctuating darkness reacting with the red essence of the Warp. And it was content for the time being. Its search was complete.

It had found a way into the Warp.

And this would only be the beginning.

The shadow creatures had mostly left by now as the more spectral elements of the Empire had begun flooding onto the planetoid. Several fortress-like structures had appeared on its surface as well as below it. The first spectre still remained there. It was now stationed in one of the fortresses, putting its vast knowledge to use in this realm the undead had finally managed to reach. A realm which was contaminated by Inferno.

They did not have any "conventional" shielding of any sort to protect them against the powers of the Warp, but as it were, they did not even require it. The black mist which came from the ever growing planetoid and clashed with the red of the Warp high above the planetoid's surface was protective enough. That, and their state of existence was not very... Susceptible when it came to the Warp itself. They could not be mutated.

There was nothing the locals could really do against them, especially as long as they stayed within their own territory - even if it was highly unlikely that the Warp would affect the spectral legions to begin with.

With an Ermorian presence secured within the Warp, certain elements within the Ashen Empire had begun to see whether or not it would be possible to traverse the place without demonic intervention whilst not protected by the powerful, unholy runes which the planetoid was imbued with.

Progress was slow, but it was to be expected. At least now they could bring in starships to the place, even if they had to remain in close proximity of the planetoid so as to not be attacked by Infernal forces. They had found ways to bring their vessels into the Warp even from the realm of the living - but it was useless knowledge for the moment. They would have to create more safe havens for themselves within it to have any use of their findings.

As things were, utilizing and/or neutralizing the Infernal presence within Warp was not high on their list of objectives... Which would be very difficult in the first place due to the presence of near-godlike beings.

But still, their presence within the Warp persisted.
