Kikoskriat

It was like any other day in the newsroom, the blonde haired, blue eyed woman smiling into the camera, sitting behind the desk with her papers in her hands, about to read off the small script in front of her eyes being shown to her on the screen the cameras wouldn't let you see. The end of the news channel theme, the only news channel - after all, it was government run - tailed off and she took a deep intake of breath. She had only one chance at this.
"Good morning," She began in a soft, gentle voice, "I am Sanendra Fern and this is the news at zero-eight-hundred hours," So far, so good, she mused in her mind. Her director was smiling, always a good sign, "Official sources have stated that just under an hour ago, an attempt was made on the life of Porthos Arenan, the president of our nation and prime mininster of the Kikoskriat Holdings. The attempt occured moments after he had left his office and moments before he was to enter an armored car to take him to his first official meetings of the day. We have Simon on the scene to give us more. Simon." She said, turning her chair to the large television screen that, a moment later, displayed the dark and gloomy scene of the entrance of the skyscraper in question. A distinct red smear was on the pavement behind the middle-aged reporter, who was holding a microphone and wearing a dirty brown alamac.
"Thanks Sanendra," Simon said in a slightly rough, yet clear tone, "I'm here outside the Penandra Hotel where Porthos spent last night and where the attempted assassination took place," There was a large concentration of armed troopers in the cordoned off area and one of them, shotgun in hand, was now standing a little behind Simon. Simon didn't seem put off by it at all; in fact, it was quite natural after such events, "There isn't too much that has been released yet for us, but there are some things that I can tell you. Porthos left this hotel just before seven, his armored limo not ten metres away from the hotel's main entrance. As soon as he stepped through the glass doors, what has been described as 'a sharply dressed man' barged his way through the daily crowd, holding a pistol firmly in his left hand. Apparently, without saying a word, he aimed his gun at Porthos and opened fire on him. The shots were taken by Luitenant Golbern, the man in charge of the limo escort who had been walking beside Porthos and who had jumped out at the sight of the gun in the way of the assassin and the president. One bullet is said to of hit Porthos before the troopers on scene turned their shotguns on the assassin and killed him. An ambulance was called for and both Porthos and Golbern were rushed off to be treated at the nearest hospital while additional troopers were summoned to secure the area."
"What can you tell us of the situation of Golbern and Porthos?" Sanendra asked Simon. A moment's pause for the delay.
"The hopsital issued a simple statement about ten minutes ago. It stated that Golbern's situation was serious, but stable. Porthos is said to be in good health and only sustained a minor shoulder wound. The doctors are apparently recorded to of said that had Porthos not been wearing a second-chance armor vest under his suit, he could have taken an injury to the chest from a bullet that hit him before Golbern had got in the way." Simon said then, still calm.
"And what of the assailant? What do we know of him?" She then asked.
"Sadly, not much," Was Simon's reply, "Not a lot was left of him after the troopers opened fire on him, but forensics are attempting to identify him based off the national DNA database. Nothing has been confirmed about the man's idendity by any official sources, but there are a few theories," He looked back a little at the trooper in the background who had a stern look on his face, "One is that he is a member of the group 'Bread for Citizens', a radical group who are trying to get laws enacted to make the government hand out food to those who cannot afford their own," The trooper in the background spat on the ground then, seemingly disgusted by that, "Another theory is that he has been hired by a political rival to attempt to eliminate him, or perhaps that he is simply a man linked to a general terrorist organisation. We also can't outrule the chance that he was working alone." Sanendra was getting a thumbs up from her director, making her smile a little.
"What measures, if any, are going to be taken to make sure this doesn't happen again?" She then asked. Simon smiled.
"From what I understand, none," Simon said simply, "The military are quoted to of said that they are already doing as much as possible to protect the lives of important political figures and that this event was an unfortunate moment that couldn't of been avoided. They have commended Golbern for his bravery and quick thinking and I think that there are words spreading that there will be a promotion and possibly a medal for Golbern after the smoke has cleared. The military have issued a reward of 1,000,000 ultimacs to anyone with information leading to the discovery of the motive and planners behind this assassination attempt."
"And Porthos?" She then asked.
"He is taking this is good spirits," Simon added, "Naturally he is a little shaken, but considering the precautions hew as taking, it can be presumed he was expecting this to happen at some point. All that he is quoted to of said, officially, is that he is sorry to the oil buisnessmen he has had to cancel his appointment to, for obvious reasons. The representatives for him say he will most likely be up and about by tommorow, buisness as usual."
"Simon, thank you," She then said, turning back to the desk. Wow, that wasn't something you reported on everyday, she mused to herself as she looked at the other things on the list she had to report on, much more trivial events luckily. Fun was over, she sighed in her mind, now for the rest of the work ahead, "In other news, a recent skyscraper fire claimed the lives of ten people earlier today..."
