History

The Founding
The nation from which Rasthor International was created, Rea Dan, was founded at least 1000 years ago when the numerous tribes of the Rea Dan islands united against a great foe whose name is lost to history. The tribes remained united after this foe was defeated and created a republican system of government where the elders and other electors ruled the nation semi-democratically.

The Empire
The Rea-Dan republic, however, was unwieldy. The mob rule that characterized the young democracy was strife with oppression towards minorities of all sorts and incredibly inefficient. It was only a matter of time before a charismatic leader made the archipelago his own. That leader was Sakon Rannos, who could trace his line to a great warchief from ancient times who was named Rannos. With the fervor of revolution on his side his followers swept across the nation and soon Sakon Rannos founded the Empire of Readania five hundred years after the formation of the republic.
From his throne in his capital of Liadon, Emperor Rannos ruled as a Philosopher-King considering himself to be enlightened (as the fashion was for the day.)

The Great Unrest
The Empire was very short lived, lasting only four generations. To be fair, it might have lasted longer if it were not for Sakon Rannos' great-grandson, Emperor Rannos IV, who ruled tyrannically and zealously tried to convert the entire nation to a fanatical religion that worshiped something that its opponents called 'octopus overlords.' Being a naturally pragmatic people, the Readanians did not take well to this conversion at gunpoint and revolted against their king and the increasingly greedy nobility.
The revolt was incredibly violent and resulted in the regicide of almost anyone claiming noble ties. The end result of all this bloodshed was a more parliamentary, multi-partisan government called the General Assembly.

The Coming of Rasthor
The General Assembly, in an attempt to rebuild their nation more rapidly, avoided any sort of market regulation, even to the point of letting CEO's hold office in government while still retaining their private sector careers. Conflicts of interest soon become common place and parties were permanently fixed to a company (so much so that they eventually took that companies name.) Monopolies soon took hold of both the corporate and political worlds. Soon the nation was divided between a few corporations: Heiliost Enterprises (an energy company,) Xeron-Belast Incorporated (a telecommunications company,) and Faurun International (a health care company.)
These three companies eventually became so fixated on destroying each other and gaining dictatorial control of the nation that none took notice of a rising arms manufacturer called Rasthor International. This small company quickly rose to become an economic superpower when a violent dispute broke out in a nearby region. Demand for weapons skyrocketed and so did Rasthor Int.'s influence. It was not until Xeron-Belast was bought out by the company that, too late, the other major corporations took notice.
It took Rasthor International only three more years to buyout the other two companies and a few months after that the companies CEO, Sakon Rasthor, was elected president of Rea Dan and, for practical purposes, turned the nation into Rasthor International property.
