RULES
Claiming Nations and Set-Up
I've simplified this a little bit. Rather than any sort of points system or classifications, you may now claim any three (3) nations that are close to each other, provided that two are not in the global top 5 for either their RL Gross Domestic Product or Population. Want France and Switzerland? Go for it. Norway, Sweden, and Britain? Sure. Spain, Morocco, and Libya? K. China and India? Negativo.
The reason for the stipulation is that I don't want someone to come in and absolutely dominate with a major supernation. Now, you can say that the US has a leg up on the competition that way - but that's why I have the US No but fo'real, it is in stability's sake.
That makes sense because of this: while you will be incorporating just about everything NS-style into whatever nation you make (including designing the history of your nation back to 1950, as well as incorporating your own leadership, culture, demographics, and the like) - you will incorporate the RL GDP, Population, and Land Area for your two nations chosen. This is to prevent everyone from having 6 billion-person nations and multi-hundred trillion GDPs. RL scale, NS style.
Mind you, when setting up your history - if you involve nations besides your own (and they are claimed), please consult with the other nation owner to collaborate, otherwise we'll have conflicting histories.
Conversions from NationStates
As this is a flexible Earth, in designing your military (everyone's favorite topic to make) or other aspects, you may use more advanced equipment than what said nation has avaliable. However, I do ask that to keep things on a RL scale, make a conversion - ie, if you have South Africa and its fighters and you want Su-35s, go ahead and switch 'em up - but reduce the number (on a proportion that's natural - honor system there) to compensate. In reverse, if you have F-22s and you want Mig-21s, you can definitely inflate the number of Mig-21s.
In the vein of that, everyone will be required to have a factbook (doesn't have to be giant, just with info) to allow other players to access their nation.
In addition, you can have custom or NS tech into your military/commerce/whatever, but if you do, please incorporate basic stats so the other players can figure it out.
Activity
The bane of all long-term RPs. I understand some situations arise, and as long as you tell me or another ESR mod about a situation arising, we'll gladly clear you for an absence. However, unannounced inactivity can't just go unmandated - if you're absent for more than 15 days without comment, ESR modship will have to open your countries for expansion/claim.
If you know you won't be the most active, than don't pick a major player like China - maybe go for Egypt or Algeria instead.

Actually we still don't know what's happening in Cyprus. MedFed still hasn't addressed my concerns. In fact I've not seen him around for a couple of days, nor the British Empire player, in fact. MedFed suggested that Cyprus was his, but I was under the impression that it was only so pre-restart. Since then he hasn't said anything, which makes it rather difficult for me to know whether or not there are any British bases there for me to over-run in the first place.
Oh, just a note, of course Australia is also in the British claim.
Anyway, yes, come on, people! Things are a bit slow at the moment, but we've got a few interesting stories unfolding.
In the Middle East, the Ba'ath Socialists have essentially challenged the Xaristani imperialists and won, radically altering the balance of power.
In Asia, the East Asian Commonwealth and the Mongol Empire have surprisingly allied themselves in an attack on NPC North Korea, which is fighting back desperately despite having almost no support. India, under Anarchism, is becoming interventionalist in the wider world and friendly with the Ba'athists.
In Europe, the USSR is still alive, all be it in reduced form, and is building a new Communist bloc with the greatly expanded German Democratic Republic, while the British Empire has been attempting to impose itself on the world once again.
In the Americas, the US is in the middle of a potentially historic election with the Republicans looking at a humiliation, and in the extreme south of South America an insurrection is under way, while everything from Brazil and Paraguay to Bolivia and Colombia remains up for grabs, as does much of Central America.
In Africa, last time around we had loads of activity and some of the best RP, but now nearly the whole continent is there for the taking!
Somebody could build the Portuguese Empire... Portugal, Brazil, and Angola, for example! Or what about Gran Colombia? Greater Syria? An expanded South Africa? A new Songhai Empire? A new Khmer Empire? Yugoslavia, since I'm not using it this time around? Czechoslovakia? The Austro-Hungarian Empire?

The population though, I think, has to stay the same, or at least believable. You can't claim China - for example - and say their population is 50 million, or claim Iceland and say their population is 50 million. But all in all we stretch the rules a bit.
