Cold Light

The sun rises slowly in a new dawn, starting a new day and giving birth to a new state. These are the first signs of a new country rising and a beginning that will be marked in history. This is the start of Cold Light.
The streets were being cleaned and final preparations for the parade that was to mark the first day of Cold Light's existence. The passover for independence had gone surprisingly well and peacefully with the Kingdom of Lizantra who's powers were slowly eroding away. Cold Light had wanted independence for centuries, but had never fought for it. Instead the inhabitants of Cold Light had waited for generations and the waiting was finally over.
The new government was settling into it's now independent Senate and the new President, Nathan Mathers, was getting settled into his new office, preparing for the days celebrations.
"I see a new Cold Light today, one that is no longer a dependent on Lizantra, one who has awaited this day for centuries, generation after generation hoping to see this day. It is this patience and resolve that makes the people of Cold Light who they are. How was that?", President Mathers said turning to his wife, Bridget.
"It was perfect darling. The people will love it and love you for it. A fitting speech for the nation.", she replied.
"So it was good? Good. I still can't believe this has happened. Cold Light, independent for the first time in 1500 years and I am leading it. Many have dreamed of this. I just hope the rest of the world recognises us as a legitimate nation after so many of the former Lizantra provinces have failed in this bid."
Thee thoughts had kept him awake for the last few days as the deal that brokered Cold Light's independence.
"It'll be fine.", replied Bridget, "It's also time to leave to give our speech to the nation, Mr President.", she finished with a smile. Both the Mathers were in their early 30's, many thinking Nathan to young to be in charge but the people had wanted it and so it was done.
In the main city of Cold Light, named Dawn, the parade and festivities were underway. The scene would be duplicated in every town and city of Cold Light. People were waving the Cold Light flag and cheering as floats of entertainment passed with fire jugglers and musicians. President Mathers stepped onto the Podium to address his people, scenes which be broadcasted all over the country.
" My fellow Cold Light residents, we are now a nation. I see a new Cold Light today, one that is no longer a dependent on Lizantra, one who has awaited this day for centuries, generation after generation hoping to see this day. It is this patience and resolve that makes the people of Cold Light who they are."
He waited for the cheers to die down before continuing.
"Today we start our real history of independence and our first step onto the world stage. I would like to publicly extend the hand of friendship to other nations. And now my countrymen and women, let us celebrate!"
Applause was extraordinary and the cheers were almost deafening. Cold Light was finally free and all was well.
"How about we retire to our quarters for our own private celebration?",Bridget whispered into Nathan's ear.
All was well indeed.
