What is the Kingston Pact?

Welcome!

The Kingston Pact is an alliance founded in the Praetonian capital, Kingston, by the Kings of Praetonia, Questers and Willink. It does not take the form of a supranational government with ministries and courts (as other alliances have and do, for example the former NATO) or even a binding treaty as such. Instead it is a collection of broadly similar countries stating their intention to co-ordinate their actions for their mutual benefit, and the promotion of individual liberty worldwide.

What does the Kingston Pact stand for?

The Kingston Pact stands first and foremost for the collective interest of its memberstates. The Pact only acts to further its members' interests and an action need only gain the support of the membership in order to be carried out under its Banner. Beyond that, the Kingston Pact stands for Parliamentary Democracy, the rule of law, free enterprise and the safety of the individual from the power of the state. The Kingston Pact supports a strongly armed and well defended free world of nations powerful enough to counter and defeat where necessary the forces of tyrannies around the world.

As well as co-ordinating military action between the memberstates, the Kingston Pact is also a tool for placing strong economic and political pressure on countries which deny their citizens their basic rights to life, liberty and property. The Kingston Pact sees in the expansion of the free world of liberal democracies the best chance for lasting peace, prosperity and freedom for all the peoples of the world.

How can my country join the Kingston Pact?

Any country may apply to join the Kingston Pact, or a country may be invited to join. If a country is applying to join the Kingston Pact it is be expected to meet the following minimum requirements for a reasonable chance that its application will be successful:

• The applicant country must have an independent working judiciary.
• The applicant country must not place any significant restrictions upon the personal and economic activities of its citizens, including strong property rights.
• The applicant country must have reasonably good relations with existing memberstates.
• The applicant country must have a geuine ideological commitment to individual liberty, free trade and co-operation with other members to further these aims.

Please note that these requirements are a guideline, and any country is eligable for membership provided that its application is approved by all existing memberstates.

What is expected of Kingston Pact memberstates?

All members of the Kingston Pact are expected to have an independent wish to support the causes and objectives of the Pact beyond treaty obligations to do so. These include:

• Mutual defence of other Kingston Pact states, their subjects and their property.
• Promoting free trade and free societies in tryannical foreign countries.
• Spreading the influence of Kingston Pact memberstates to foreign countries and uninhabited lands.

Memberstates that do not engage sufficiently with the objectives of the Pact may be subject to removal upon a vote of the membership.

Greetings from the Free Commonwealth! Our nation, noting the similarities between the Kingston Pact and the Sovereign League, and that the Vante was once a member of the Sovereign League, was at first more than willing to join the Pact. After all, after the Vante-Gholgothic War, many refugees fled to safehaven nations, such as Questers and Praetonia, were some remain to this day. And it is, of course, true that the Vantanian Free Market holds some thirteen trillion in investments in Questers, as to recover their economy after the Questo-Gholgothic War. With Havenic issues evaporating along with the Londinian landmass, there is nothing but brotherhood between us.

However, the Vante is not what it once was. Even with a massive empire of foreign investments built up, we have not the military, elite though it is, to commit to the Kingston Pact. So, alas, alack, we cannot join in full this mighty Pact.

Instead, the Vantanian Capitalists for an Invisible Empire have come to me with an idea. The Vantanian World Corporation is willing to merge the Kingston Trading Co. and the London Trading Co., as well as opening operations in Willink and future member nations. This new company, the Kingston Pact Trading Co., would ship goods between the Vanteland, her colonies, her invisible colonies, and the Kingston Pact nation. In addition, we would like further economic integration, in the form of investments, with Praetonia and Willink, if acceptable. Godspeed!

The Federal Republican Duchydom of Franberry, long the only bastion of western civilization on the southern border of Haven, by way of this statement, makes its formal request to join the Kingston Pact. After careful deliberation, we have come to the conclusion that the Kingston Pact shares with Franberry many common views and values. As the President of the United States, I approve the commitment of the Kingston Pact to the ideas of life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. There is nothing more Allanean than the love of liberty. We have grieved when the Sovereign League fell apart, leaving behind mere partisan bickering between alliances like APOC and NATO, unprincipled, unbound by any sense or truth or justice or morality.

Now this dark age is behind us, but we are, so far, not able to directly join the Kingston pact as of now, due to various internal factors. I would not wish to criticize the KGP – it is surely a wonderful alliance – but at the present, Allanea cannot commit to full membership.

That said, I would do my best to ensure that Allanea, for one, will protect the peace and liberty of all Havenic nations, and will assist the KGP at least in some, if not all, of its future operations.

Official Announcement of the President of the United States

Many were the days of the English-speaking cultures. We have been divided by politics, by economics, by various false interests. But above all, more important than anything else, remains our common dedication to individual liberty, the free market, and the unalienable rights of all men. **OFFICIAL STATEMENT**

The Commonwealth of Tolvan has long been a bastion of freedom and democracy. We are staunch believers in the free market with only the most necessary of regulations and tariffs imposed on Tolvanic business. Our nation has enjoyed 268 years of unbroken democratic rule since we threw off the shackles of Ocic oppression in 1740. Our military, while small in relation to the size of the Commonwealth, is equipped with the finest equipment available and is among the best trained in the world. While the Commnwealth has taken little interest in internal affairs of other nations in the past, we can no longer ignore the desperation of those suffering under the yoke of tyranny.

As a result I have petitioned Parliament to authorise the Commonweath's application to the Kingston Pact. Despite opposition from the leftists and isolationists the measure passed by a margin of 623 - 377. Should your noble alliance wish our company we will stand with you in efforts to foster freedom around the world.

The Aequatian Republic has, in decades past, been a historical opponent to many of those on your register due to the maintenance of a system meant for sustainability of the nation as a whole. Now that the nation has matured and completed its growth, it has begun to involve itself on the international scene, the time has come for the nation and its citizenry to take on a new ideals of individual liberalism and free enterprise dynamics for itself and align itself with like-minded nations for the advancement and protection of not only national interests, but of liberty itself, against those that would see it destroyed for personal gain.

It is at this time, with the official sanctioning of the National Senate, that the Aequatian Republic officially applies for full membership into the Kingston Pact at this point in time.

The Government of Kahanistan has historically enjoyed good relations with a majority of Kingston Pact members, and currently has at worst neutral relations with all members. While Kahanistan does not stand for unrestrained capitalism in the sense that many member states do, we do trade with several members - in defence alone, Praetonian and Questarian warships serve in our fleets, and Aequatian small arms equip a majority of our foot soldiers.

In addition, our nation has significant ideological commonality with Allanea, and as the K.G.P. leadership is aware, our love of liberty has gotten us into numerous wars with the Doomani imperialist tyrants.

However, while our government at this point is willing to issue a statement of support for the Kingston Pact, there is still much controversy over the prospect of a full abandonment of our socialist principles. I could build a case for future consideration, but it would require serious changes in the internal political climate for our government to consider full membership.

• There are no major restrictions on personal liberty. On the economic side, it has never been illegal in Kahanistan to set up a private business. However, under the old order, the wealthiest businesses paid heavy corporate taxes and as a result were very few. Environmental, public safety, and wage regulations were the norm.

• Our relations with the majority of KGP members are neutral to good.

• Our ideological commitment to individual liberty has manifested itself in conflicts that have devastated our nation. Certainly no stronger proof is required than that. Our position on free trade has always been that an economic system should not aggravate existing poverty or make it harder for the poor to sustain themselves.
