CERC Opens Defense Contract for foreign battle Tanks

The Royal Code
25-05-2008, 14:57
The Parliament of the Colonial Empire of The Royal Code has passed legislation to take advantage of the recent 2 Trillion Franc surplus in the defense budget to begin acquiring additional military equipment.

The first order of business is a new battle tank. The Royal Army is looking for lightweight-to-standard weight tanks with reasonable firepower and good defense systems. Of many things taken into consideration, fuel efficiency is a big concern for this year's defense contracts. As provided by DMG, the huge Behemoth II and Behemoth III super heavy battle tanks suck up fuel like no end. Though the CERC has the logistical means to keep the fleet fueled and ready, it has it's price due to the fact that after every Army deployment, gas prices rise on average $.02

The Royal Army is looking for a fast tank with reasonable firepower and good defensive stopping power.

The Royal Army in-total is looking to award at least 5 contracts of 3,500 tanks each to the top candidates.

Let's see some entries.

Communiqué to relevant staff, The Royal Code

Greetings,

We would like to present the Nakíl 1A3 main battle tank (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13708530&postcount=2102) to the tank tender. The Nakíl 1A3 is a modified version of the original Nakíl 1A1, which through the years has been modified to 1A1U/1A1+ & 1A2 standards. The Nakíl 1A3 is the most advanced version of the Nakíl currently offered for export, other than the Nakíl 1A3HA which is for a limited amount of customers (and its 'superiority' comes only through a larger gun and more armor, which will add weight - although it also has an electric transmission). The Nakíl 1 is the most widely produced tank in history, with over twenty million tanks produced to date for a stunning amount of nations. Before we present its advantages (and we hope that you take the time to look over the linked brochure) we would like to point out that the fact that it has been so widely exported is not a disadvantage, due to the fact that only a limited amount of nations have to date chosen to upgrade to 1A3 standards. Current trends prove that as new modification packages are introduced fewer and fewer nations will have th more up to date Nakíl tanks. Regardless, in the end the choice is yours.

The Nakíl does not cut corners in either firepower, mobility or protection and in some ways goes around the 'consructor's triangle'. In terms of survivability, it is one of the most well armored tanks in its weight class, introducing new armor technologies that guarantee its position as this. Most other tanks simply cannot compare in the quality of the engineering, and in fact many other tanks just use Macabee technology in their main battle tank designs (such as the MAD.V, which uses Imperial explosive reactive armor on their tanks, from the Nakíl 1A2 package - the 1A3 uses superior hybrid panels). Despite this level of protection, the 1A3 does not surrender firepower, introducing a new gun with much more muzzle energy - this gun is currently also used in 125mm form by the MAD.V and in 120mm version by the Lariat 1A1L Long-Arm upgrade program. Although this brochure (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13718442&postcount=2125) is for the 125mm version - the CB.125 - the technology is exactly the same. In terms if firepower the turret also mounts a compact 25mm autocannon, to offer enhanced coaxially firepower at a reduced volume and weight to other 25mm autocannons - as a consequence, the coaxial cannon can now puncture light armor, without having to use the main gun.

Perhaps the most questionable area is mobility. Not for its lack of mobility, as the vehicle has a maximum velocity of 74km/h, but due to its gas turbine. It should be noted that Turboas' TA series 600 gas turbine is not the gas guzzling hog of older gas turbines, such as the AGT-1500, as the TA series 600 uses a recuperator to reuse heat and increase fuel efficiency to the level of the best diesel engine (it is based on the real-life LV-100-5), and uses new component technology to raise combustion temperature to increase efficiency even further - heat is not an issue due to the use of the recuperator. The TA series 600 is around five times lighter than its diesel counterpart and has a volume of under 1m^3.

Please, read through the brochures; if you have any questions or doubts ask us and we will give all the information necessary to make your procurement much more well informed.

Some of this technology might seem strange and I have written 'Informatives' on the NSDraftroom, if you're interested in reading them. Insofar, here are the ones I've written in regards to tank technology:

Backround
The M-78 Kilgore Main Battle Tank is the first domestically designed MBT in Binarian history. Designed to replace the current MBT in service, the LY4 Wolfhound, which is an exellecent tank, it has been decided recently to phase out as many forgien designed equipment as possible with in 10 years.

Engine
The M-78 Kilgore has a powerful 18 cylinder 3000 hp deisel engine in a "V" configuration.

Armament
The M-78 Kilgore's primary weapon is a 130mm/65 cal ETC smootbore cannon. This weapon can place rounds with high accuracy out to ranges of 4200 meters. The long rod penetrator will still be able to destroy or disable medium tanks and heavier IFVs and ACPs at 5000 meters, although, agianst other modern main battle tanks, the chances of killing nuts, are significantly reduced. The High Explosive Anti-Tank rounds use a tandem warhead intented to reduce the effectiveness of Explosive Reactive Armor(ERA). Because HEAT rounds don't need to have as much speed at impact, the killing range against modern MBTs is increased to 5400 meters, although accuracy suffers at this range considerablely, a fair amount of luck is needed to deliver a kill.

-Secondary Weapons
In addition, the M-78 has a considerable secondary armarment with a 14.5x105 mm hatch mounted machinegun manned remotely by the commander, and a 9x76mm coaxial machinegun.

Bismarck Armor Scheme
The Bismarck armor scheme is the result of several decades of research into armor materials and their applications by The Peoples Freedom government and private agencies. The program originally started in 1970 with the introduction of the 'Nova' Main Battle Tank which was the nations' Principe MBT up until the adoption of the Nakil. The result of lessons learned with fifty years of Nova was put into a multi billion dollar program called the Enhanced Protection Scheme or EPS. The primary contractor of this scheme was the Army's Advance Research and Development Lab. Later companies to join was Blitzkrieg Land Systems and Krupp Industries. The Imperial General Staff was the primary funders of the project, with generals reportedly spending personal money and being the primary lobbyists for earmarks.

General Scheme
Bismarck armor scheme in its basic form is designed to reduce the threat of the modern kinetic penetrator to the tank as well as other threats such as mines and shaped charges. The design is also meant to be modular, with easy replacement of perforated plates and high updatability. In fact, while the design was originally introduced in 2022, it would served until 2045 ending with the Mark V scheme. Thus, the armor would continually be updated for two decades.

The first layer of armor is a specially designed Heavy Explosive Reactive Armor set [HERA] which is meant to provide high levels of protection for the tank with little gain in weight. The HERA, named “Rainbow”. “Rainbow” uses a system of operation whereupon the offending projectile in engaged by the “rays” of the HERA and thus deflecting the projectile or in some case managing to actually slice LRP in half thus drastically reducing penetrating ability. The system is composed of “bricks” making each “brick” easily replaceable once used, in addition the “bricks” are lightweight at around 3kg and this allows them to be positioned on all areas on the tank, albeit Bismarck Mark I only uses them on the frontal arc and turret sides and mantlet.

Passive armor consists of a ceramic mix backed up heavily by heavy metals. Bismarck relies on Boron Carbide sandwiched between layers of Improved Rolled Homegoues Armor or IRHA. This system, being physically the thickest on the tank at around 400mm in actual thickness, [At least on the Kilgore] allows for the defeat of shaped charge rounds and long-rod penetrators. This is not one large plate but rather a series [3] large plates interlocked to support each other and provide mutual protection. This also allows for somewhat easy replacement of shattered or cratered plates. This layer is also angled at 45 degrees, this helps to “deflect”long-rod penetrators along another flight path and disrupt shaped charge jets.

A second layer of passive armor is located in the rear of the first armor and consists of a variety of “bricks” which consist of depleted uranium encased by IRHA. This would most likely stop any surving long-rod penetrator or plasma jet due to the decreased speeds from the previous layer and the hitting of hard metals. All of these bricks also interlock and provide mutual support while remains separate blocks.

However, the armor scheme along the frontal arc of the tank and along the turret and glacis is very heavy and cannot be expected to continue along the sides and rear of the tanks. Thus, the side of the tank uses the side variant of the Bismarck scheme. In this variant, the primary protection is provided by IRHA which encases fiberglass or “S-glass” which is a lightweight solution that offers significant protection. Behind this layers is the same depleted uranium bricks as the frontal arc but fewer such bricks. A final layers is Light Explosive Reactive Armor which is also lightweight and used in the same brick format as Rainbow. However these bricks are not as thick or lengthy and thus do not offer the same protection. Despite this, Bismarck retains excellent protection against side threats.

The rear of Bismarck cannot offer very much protection due to the weight constraints, and thus most protection will have to rely on the interior of the tank it is used on, such as whether or not the tank has a engine, fuel tanks, or electronics to block the entry of a round. The basic Bismarck scheme provides protection against small arms fire, but additional protection against 30mm autocannon fire is provided by non explosive reactive armor bricks and a 40mm plate of IRHA. The NxRA bricks also offer multiple hit capacity.

Spalling is a perhaps the most dangerous threat and this is countered to a great extend by a thick [15mm] of Spectra, which provides significant protection against such a threat.

Top-attack rounds and mine threats are always of serious concern to the designers of armor protection. For top-attack rounds, any tank must rely heavily on its APS, but additional armor is provided by the Bismarck with NxRA brick mounted on the turret roof. These thick bricks allow multiple hit capability against threats such as explosively formed penetrators, and thus is the most effective lightweight solution that can be provided. Against mines, Bismarck uses two 15mm of IRHA thick plates on the floor of the tank. These plates are separated by a spaced layer consisting of air, gear storage, or an additional “S” glass layer. The inner plates are also lined with Spectra. Bismarck recommends that tanks users also install shock- seating and a plate on the bottom of the chair to further protect crew against fragments.

Not really. All you have to do is hit the track, and you've got a mission kill until they can get a repair crew to switch out the wheels you've annihilated - unlikely when you're in the middle of a battle. Modern top attack missiles can also reliably kill even the most powerful tanks, and upping roof armor is extremely difficult.

As for owning the air, it's usually not a good strategy to rely on air supremacy in every battle you're planning. After all, this isn't the real world, where every battle will be fought against a third world opponent with an air force that's fifty years out of date. Generally you'll be fighting someone whose air power is at least equal to yours, if not superior.

We would like to enter the Main-Heavy Divine Tiger tank. It is designed to fight much larger tank forces and offers a few variants.

Usually, they are armed with two cannons ((OOC: Don't ask, all the designing and whatnot was thought out by me. No, I don't play C&C)), but three of the five variants offer other weapons. The Tank Killer variant sports a 200mm cannon instead of two 120mm or 125mm cannons. The Infantry Killer sports two 5.7mm miniguns, and the Experiment Missile variant simply has a wide array of missiles and rockets.

If you wish to acquire more information, please respond.

I'm not going to defend every last note of the battle tank. I for one, dont send in tanks by themselves, SAMS and mobile AA (not to mention the AA missiles on the tanks themselves) as part of a combined arms assault.

Also, Behemoth III's have 4 sets of tracks. Can operate on two.

If DMG is claiming their tank can stop missiles (which they do), and they cant, then you guys should be talking to him, not I.

The Sino 2A1 Stealth Main Battle Tank (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13702061&postcount=18) is a fast, mobile armored fighting vehicle which emphasizes information, mobility, active protection systems and a low profile over armor, armed with the MTIS-M120 ETC L55 120mm gun (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=3632&view=findpost&p=3143712) which has a superior rate of fire thanks to its autoloader and ammunition configuration and can fire APFSDS rounds at muzzle velocities exceeding 2.1 kilometers per second, with a coaxial ZM300 30mm portable autocannon (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=2606) capable of firing both air-burst(including the infamous white-phosphorous), gyrojet and conventional ammunitions, by a pair of remotely operated AA-70 7.62x54mm machineguns (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=2605) and by two 50mm grenade launchers which also serve as smoke dispensers. It has limited indirect fire and anti-air capabilities and can track targets through "Eyeball MK-II" optical targeting of 5 driving/aiming IR cameras and of 4 IR cameras integrated with its protection systems, a low-range passive radar, a low-range AESA system and through third party feed from its low probability of intercept datalink. It is also an upgrade over the original Sino 2 to match new caliber standards of the Confederacy and to improve its mobility and information awareness rather than its armor.

Its design principle is, rather than be heavily armored to stand continually in less mobile maneuvers and direct engagements, to come "fast and sneaky" through flanks or rear preferably, hit first, fast and precisely before the enemy forces even know what hit them, and if the worst come, be able to get out fast to avoid major concentrations of enemy forces when direct engagement is not wished, and have its active protection systems rather than armor as primary means of protection during battle. All while being mobile enough to climb some hills, provided they are not too steep.

- Grenade launchers aiming is fully automated through an INDFire module to allow the gunner to worry only about controlling the main gun and its coaxial.

- Commander can contact and receive transmissions from infantry directly through their CPI-300 Information and Protection Combat Helmets (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=3104), receive transmissions from aircrafts, naval vessels and many others through the Low Probability of Intercept Datalink to integrated combined arms or amphibious assaults effectively, while its tank automatically processes the feed of UAVs, AWACS, recon vehicles and alike given through the same datalink.

- You can make some extra funds by renting it to X-files or whatever conspiracy thriller is successful in your country's next season. They will definitively want something that looks like it to film some episodes. There is nothing that looks like it in external appearance*

To the Colonial Empire of The Royal Code

First, we would like to thank you for adding one of our products to your armed forces procurement, and will offer aggregated services to satisfy your tactical needs and support your military logistics personell and infrastructure if any changes are necessary to adapt to the new technologies.

As our homeland is current at a state of war, we(MilNet, Cotarm, TdC and Engesa among other united cooperative companies) are at our maximum production capability in both it and in confederated industries of the allied communes of Algeria, Tuninisia and Brazil, and thus far such capability is fortunately exceeding the need of our frontlines: we can assure a minimum capability of manufacturing 50 tanks per month exclusively to fulfill the contract, or of a maximum of 100 tanks per month, meaning that the deadline for the products of this contract to be delivered will be between roughly 2 and 4 years, and unfortunately our nation is already too developed to have space for enough additional manufacturing plants to drastically reduce this time, while the other ones are restricting further expansion to allow their own fully indigenous industry to grow.

As we are aware this is a somewhat long time, for we do not give to our consumers false expectations based on dishonest deadlines, believing that honesty is the first and foremost aspect of any sale, we offer you a manner of accelerating the process: if you were to allow us to establish 100 cooperative industrial units in your nation, we could reduce this period to an estimated time between 1 and 2 years, besides helping your own tank industry to develop.

Thanks to firmware and electronics commonality with other research projects, each tank market value is only of 9 millions of US dollars, although due to the scale of the offer, we are offering you a discount of 5% per tank, leading to a contract which total value will be of US$ 21.375 billions. We will accept two manners of payment, with different discount conditions. By Paying it all in once, besides from the 5% discount you will win three years of free maintenance services*.

However, we could also offer a payment system that would put less strain in your funds, where you will be able pay the individual price of each tank that arrives to your nation during the period of the contract rather than paying all at once. Thus, whenever a batch of freshly manufactured Sino 2A1 MBTs arrive to your nation in accordance to the contract, you will pay only the total cost of the ones that arrived, where with the discount the individual cost of each one will be of 8.55 millions of US dollars, until the last tank of the contract arrives, also totalizing the sum mentioned before.

We hope that we can provide your tanks in time, as unfortunately attempts to fully implement the just-in-time method our automobile cooperative TdC uses for its civilian products has only worked to an extent for lightweight armored vehicles, although our flexible lines of production and lack of bureaucracy help with the overall speed of production.

*Promotion is limited for peacetime routine maintenance services.

Complying with your order ((OOC: On the Divine Tiger thread)) of 2,500 Divine Tigers MHBTs, the total price will be 21,750,000,000 Neutral Currency Points/Universal Standard Dollars.

This can be paid over a 10 year period, but know that if you select to pay at intervals, you will also recieve your Divine Tigers at intervals. However, we believe that you will most likely be able to afford all 2,500 units in one bulk payment, recieving the vehicles every day for a month.
