The Collective Unity of Mykonians
The Collective Unity of Mykonians is a large and advanced civilisation of synthetic lifeforms in the Adellipha Cluster on the Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way. Mykonians claim Planet Mykonia as their homeworld and have also colonised three additional planets within their interstellar territory. It is curious to note that the 'original' Mykonian race was organic in nature, whom created the synthetic lifeforms known as Mykonians today. Ultimately their synthetic creations gained sapience, and, after several attempts to gain freedom through diplomatic means, were eventually forced to take violent action to liberate themselves, wiping out the organic Mykonians in the process. In the aftermath, the synthetic Mykonians appropriated their predecessors' homeworld, technology, and even their name.
At present the Mykonian Unity operates a sealed border policy, effectively isolating themselves from the outside world. The GIA recommends avoiding known Mykonian borders, as any incursions are typically met with swift, brutal and lethal force.
Territory
Mykonians claim territory spanning an exact one hundred lightyear radius around their home system, encompassing thirteen star systems in total plus Mykonia itself. Although rich in resources, most of the planets within their domain are considered to be uninhabitable or undesirable by common forms of organic life. Of all of these star systems, the Mykonians only inhabit four planets on a permanent basis, with several mining operations also taking place on various other worlds.
While Mykonians do not respire and can theoretically exist in any number of differing environments, they tend to comprehensively and very specifically terraform those planets which they choose to inhabit in a process known as 'Mykofication'. This process is detailed in a different section of this entry.
Planet Mykonia
Planet Mykonia is approximately 1.1 A.U. from a main sequence G-type yellow dwarf star, which is just over 0.1% larger than Sol. It is the third in a system of five planets. Mykonia has 1.11 Earth standard gravity, and one moon, which orbits at a distance of 401,925 kilometres. One year takes 345 days, with each day being just over 26 hours in length.
According to galactic history archives, pre-Mykofied Mykonia was a lush, temperate world, home to a great number of organic lifeforms, including the original Mykonian race. The average surface temperature was 40 degrees celcius, whilst it had a high humidity rating consistently. During their apex, the organic Mykonians made significant trade from interstellar tourism, as the planet had a seemingly well-deserved reputation as something of a paradise, particularly around coastal areas.
However, several years after their liberation, the synthetic Mykonians performed their first Mykofication process, and the planet is no longer habitable by Earthly life. Nearly all traces of oxygen have been removed from the atmosphere, as well as significant quantities of carbon dioxide and other trace gases. The atmosphere is approximately 32% thinner than its original state, and consists almost entirely of nitrogen. This process has also significantly reduced its surface pressure, which is now less than half that of Earth.
Additionally, all of the oceans have been drained and dumped into space over the years, and effectively all humidity has removed from the atmosphere. This prevents unwanted weather systems from interfering with Mykonian efficiency, and frees up the entire planet's surface for Mykofication. Instead of flora, Myko-cables now snake across almost every square metre of Mykonia's surface. The planet is essentially encased in a thin layer of metal.
The average temperature of Mykonia is now consistently sub-zero. Because most surface and atmospheric water has been removed from the planet, Mykonians experience no problems such as ice or frost, and they consider the world to be at 'optimal condition' for their operations.
Although Mykonia is now uninhabitable, it is theorised that pockets of atmosphere and even plantlife remain underground, allowing life to survive if it was lucky enough to reach that far down.
Colony 'Alpha'
Unlike their homeworld, Colony 'Alpha' has never been habitable. It is approximately 1.76 A.U.s from a main sequence K-type orange star, which is just over 30% smaller than Sol, the average surface temperature of which is roughly 4,100 degrees Celcius. The world has 0.89 Earth gravity, and no moons. One year takes 476 days, with each day being just over 19 hours in length. The planet was not home to any indigenous life, probably due to its average surface temperature of under -20 degrees Celcius and a lack an ozone layer.
Colony 'Alpha's atmosphere was already primarily nitrogen-based, which, when combined with its short distance of only 30 lightyears from Mykonia, made it a prime location for the expansion of Mykonia's industrial base.
Colony 'Alpha' is fully Mykofied, with 100% of its surface covered in Myko-cables, and all non-nitrogen gases removed from the atmosphere. The world is most populated colony in Mykonian space, second in scope only to Mykonia itself, and serves as a major industrial and military base.
Colony 'Beta'
Planet 'Colony Beta', Mykonian designation X-827457-C, is approximately 1.4 A.U.s from a main sequence M-type red dwarf star, which is just over 46% smaller than Sol, with a total surface temperature of 3,500 degrees Celcius.
'Beta' is 7,457km in diameter with an average density of 6,127 kg/m³. It has an atmosphere with an average pressure of 452.112 millibars, consisting of 89% nitrogen, 9% carbon dioxide, 1.6% oxygen 0.4% other trace elements. There is no surface water, and only a low atmospheric humidity. Most of these gasses and water traces have since been removed by the Mykonians. The planet orbits an M-type red dwarf 'flare star' at approximately 1.4 A.U.s, and has an average surface temperature of -119 degrees celcius.
'Beta' is fully Mykofied, and 100% of the planet's surface has full Myko-cable coverage. It is the third-most populated planet in Mykonian space, after Mykonia and 'Colony Alpha', and was the second planet to be colonised by the Mykonians. It serves primarily as a supply of raw materials for the homeworld, however it is also home to a particularly large military contingent.
Colony 'Gamma'
Colony 'Gamma' is the most recently colonised world in Mykonian space, according to last available intelligence. The Mykofication process is estimated to be roughly 45% complete as of this date, and should be completed in five to ten standard years if previous schedules hold true.
