OOC: Economy
Friuli-Venezia
20-05-2008, 13:59
Hello!
As a new member, I would like some help building my economy. As such, I would like some investors in my nation. To help you along, I will give a bit of information about my nation's location, economy, government, people, and infrastructure. I will also be compiling information in the coming days to put up an official factbook, so I won't be giving total details here, but if there's anything you need to know, go ahead and ask.
Friuli-Venezia (often referred to simply as "Friuli", or "Venezia") is an island off the western coast of Italy. It's a relatively small island, with a population of roughly 6 million (May 2008 est.), however despite that, it is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. It is an absolute monarchy ruled by King Pietro Candiano and the "Famiglia Reale". The king is mostly benevolent, and encourages international commerce for its economic benefits.
Friuli-Venezia's economy is largely agriculturally-based, because of it's large amount of arable land. The agricultural sector mostly provides wool and lamb-skin, as sheep are the main livestock, and an assortment of agricultural goods such as wheat, corn, and fruit, produced mostly for domestic use. The island is also renowned for its world-class cheeses, called "pecorino" in the Kingdom (meaning "sheep's milk"). However, because of its excellent location in the Mediterranean, it has benefited from ports established all along the island's perimeter, and is often a crucial landing point for ships trading with others in the region.
Also, the economy has benefited greatly from gold, silver, and mineral deposits found in the north and west of the island, which has increased the national GDP and greatly improved the economy.
Fruli-Venezia is largely a maritime culture, however, and most densely-populated settlements tend to be around the coastlines. The people of Friuli-Venezia are moderately tribalistic, with focus on family businesses and regional influence. As such, the people of Friuli rarely travel, and there is little inter-regional infrastructure. Many have spoken out against the king's decision to invite foreign commerce.
The center regions of the island are less hospitable than its low-lying coast, alternating between rolling plains and jagged mountains through the center of the island. There are a few settlements in the valleys the mountains provide that the government is aware of, but these people tend to be isolationist. However, the plains to the north of the island are arable, though settlement has yet to reach that far inland due to the higher prosperity of the coastlines.
All in all, I'm searching for private and public contractors who will bring Friuli-Venezia into the 21st Century. The nation is somewhat rustic, though modern technology does exist to some degree (mostly in the realms of the fishing and mining industries.) Interested parties will be reviewed by the King and sent a letter of confirmation.

To: Friuli-Venezia
From: The Grand World Order Office of Foreign Affairs
The Government of the Grand World Order has some ventures into economic activities. While most of these are reserves for our nation's vital industries (Used to make sure companies don't challenge the government), we export military technology.
We can supply the armed forces of Friuli-Venezia with equipment that has proven its effectiveness in the GWO Armed Forces. A close business partner of ours in this industry, the Emorden-Geist Arms Manufacturing Corporation, should also be contacting you. While this may make us seem like a barbaric nation, please note that all nations need military equipment for self-protection and control.
We will supply statistics on various items if you are interested. Government-produced items include:
-MI-8 Assault Rifle
-GIPU Protective Undersuit
-MI-P57 Sidearm
-FHASAW Heavy Squad Automatic Weapon
-Divine Tiger class Heavy/Main Battle Tank
-HPACV Urban Warfare Vehicle
-FSIAAS Automatic Shotgun
The Government also sells modified versions of infantry equipment made by [RL] manufacturers.

Greetings. We are the CEOs and owners of the Emorden-Geist Weapons Manufacturing Corporation. We have supplied the GWO Government with many weapons over the years. We are interested in setting up a Corporate Headquarters within your nation and beginning an Arms Manufacturing industry. Even if firearms are illegal in your nation, IF they are, the economy can benefit from Friuli-Venezia exporting them to other nations. We also can help supply your military with weaponry. While some of our weapons may not be as advanced as the GWO Government's creations, they come with lower prices. Examples of our equipment:
-The Geist Rifle
-The L-150 Emorden Advanced Sniper Rifle (Primary sniper rifle of the GWO)
-The GI-MG33
-The Emorden Compact Submachine Gun, "Dagger"
-The E-G Mobile Armored Missile Platform (NEW!)
We can supply statistics on each of these weapons upon request.

Subject: Arms dealings
Greetings,
Thank you for your interest in my military. I am very interested in your offer. We have a small national police force that keeps order in our nation, but as of now, we have no active standing military. Please forward me information on the equipment you have available, including statistics and pricing, and I will review it and decide on the matter. The Famiglia Reale looks forward to future dealings with the Grand World Order.

Greetings,
Thank you for your interest in setting up a headquarters in Friuli-Venezia. Please forward me information on your corporation, as well as statistics on the products you will be manufacturing, and I will review the offer. Firearms are not illegal in Friuli-Venezia, and we would be more than happy to have you. We are interested in weapons for our Armed Forces, domestic use, and international supply. We are very interested in hosting an Arms Manufacturing Industry, and would like you to spearhead such an operation.
We do require that any international corporation or business residing in Friuli-Venezia hires locally from our population. As our economy is weak, it benefits our economy by supplying jobs, while simultaneously benefiting your corporation by requiring lower pay rates than more economically sound or technologically advanced nations.

Thank you for your interest in Friuli-Venezia. We are intrigued by your offer, and wish to discuss it further. Please forward me more information regarding the details of your offer; what kind of IT products do you deal with? What kind of purchases will we be required to make in exchange for free tech components?

King Pietro Candiano,
As the head of State for Economy, the merchantile companies of Zoingo are very eager to set up in your country of Friuli-Venezia. What our merchantile companies do is sell goods produced in other nations, and buy goods from your nation and distribute them through our chain of merchants. We have several different companies that have signed on board, and I believe that going though each one is a bit time consuming, so I have included the names of the merchantile companies for your convenience. I am very excited for our country, as well as yours, the ports of Friuli-Venezia seem to be suited for our market.
Thank you,

We welcome the Kingdom of Friuli-Venezia onto the world stage, and would like to place government investment in the KFV's mining sector. Also, we would like to allow Kiravian buisnesses to set up a wine industry, for which we find your climate and terrain most suitable.
Also, we see that your Kingdom does not have a standing military. The Empire would like to offer you defencive services as a Imperial Vassal. As a vassal, we do not mean a sattelite state or anything of the sort, simply a close ally that depends upon the Empire for defence.
Regardless, we would like to invite a Venezian diplomat to discuss relations in our capital city, Kartika.

Makaar would be more than interested in investing in your economy. We have reviewed the particulars of your nation and we intend to provide the following services, should you approve the deal:
1. The Makaarian government will invest S"5 billion (8.8025 billion USD) into your commercial sector through small business loans, both to those businesses which are already established and to those people who wish to establish a business. The loan will have an annual interest rate of only 2.5%. This will mean that they are extremely easy to repay.
2. The Makaarian government will approve an annual defence subsidy of S"3 billion (5.2815 billion USD), which your government may use to purchase arms (2 billion Sovereigns must be spent on arms provided by Makaarian companies - catalogue to follow). The Makaarian government will also base a small carrier fleet near your island to provide you with defence, and enter into a mutual defence pact with your nation. No Makaarian troops will be based on your soil at any time, unless you request it - we will operate from off your shores.
3. Makaarian companies such as Kylarin Computers and Royal Machinery will set up operational headquarters in your nation and provide your population with their services, giving your people jobs and providing a basis for the modernisation of your nation. These companies provide cutting-edge machinery, both for the general public and, for a larger fee, produce bespoke computers and electronics.
4. We will pay S"250 million towards the upgrade of your mining industry, in return for a 5% cut of profits each year, for 25 years.
As you will see, Makaar is by far the most capable of nations to invest in and grow your economy (OOC: http://nstracker.org/index.php?nation=Makaar - my nation's stats according to NSTracker).

Not that I think Chinese companies would be particularly welcome in a moderately isolationist Italian country, but you are certainly free to consider Jeunese investments in pesticides, farming equipment (tractors, combines if you'd like, dedicated lime/zinc sprayer trucks, other smaller pickups, the like), and offers for farmers to rent their fields for crop testing. Unfortunately, I still have yet to detail all of this equipment, since I don't deal with it on a daily basis.
Small fishing boats—and probably yachts, if there's a class of people that can/will buy them—can also be expected.
Though Jeuna is not largely agrarian itself (it only accounts for about 10% of the GDP and around 20% of the labor force, though large tracts of land in the inner country are devoted to farming), it has lots of experience in ag engineering, and you can expect Jeunese products to be very rugged, if not quite so advanced and shiny as others.
Just as something I've believed, at any rate: the service sector offers the most opportunity for growth for the least size, but depending on schooling (and I can help with technology and educational diffusion—not just Jeunese coming to the island but Friuli-Venezians—is that the right demonym?—coming to Jeuna).

Though we thank the Jeunan government for its offers in the agricultural and maritime sector, we must respectively decline. We are not in need of those kinds of services at the moment.
However, we are very much interested in working with you on the educational aspect of things. As our population is mostly rural and coastal and devoted to sustenance of its family, we have an almost embarrassingly low literacy rate and our educational facilities are, shall we say, not entirely up-to-par. We would be very interested in the opening of Jeunan educational facilities in our nation, either as public or private institutions. Our only concern is with the integration of Jeunan culture into our youth through the education. Venezians (proper denonym) have a very rich culture, and we look to preserve that.
