Lady Aniska plants one more invitation (FT introductory, open)

(OOC: First try at roleplaying. I hope you'll like the species, culture and technology I made up. No attacks by large numbers of ships please, cause then my only choice will be to flee and disappear, which would make a really boring story ending)

---

Lady Aniska studied the displays in the small cockpit of her Angel class ship, the Elegy. She didn't have quite the amount of screen real estate she would like, but that was a reasonable price for getting to fly the fastest type of ship made on Fir!n. Less weight meant faster acceleration. Anyway, she had managed to divide all interesting data over the four small screens in a convenient way. Right now, all relevant numbers read "100%". Gods, it had taken a few boring hours of programming to get everything set up just right, and one more hour for everything to be assembled, but it was worth it. This was the last "invitation" of the mission, and she thought it would be right to make it the most fun one. A few taps at her keyboard, and an encrypted weak signal was sent from her cloaked ship. 500 km away, just within range of that signal, a buoy came out of cloak and started transmitting a primitive signal. "PING... PING... PING...". Aniska felt slightly disgusted by the low tech appearance of the buoy and its signal. Unfortunately these were necessary, to avoid scaring away ships owned by civilizations with less advanced technology. Invitations were meant for everyone friendly out there.

---

Sir Jonathan noticed the encrypted signal and the appearance of the buoy on the displays of his own Angel class ship, the Snowflake II. "Finally! I wonder what she's up to this time." He had noticed that Aniska had chosen an area with exhaust signatures of many different ships, which was risky because it meant this place could get really crowded real quick, possibly getting them caught in between civilizations at war with each other. He didn't worry about it, by now he had learned that Aniska always knew what she was doing.

Invitation missions were always assigned to teams of two persons who hated each other, and who after the mission were to report about each others behavior. They would fly identical, fast but unarmed ships, and take turns in talking with other civilizations and observing the other executing that task.

Jonathan had done all his turns exactly by the book: send out a signal, wait for someone to investigate it, agree on an uninhabited planet to meet on, create the beginnings of diplomatic relations, exchange data about known agressive civilizations, disappear. Aniska had done things a little... differently. She didn't seem to care about the rules. One time, the crew of a ship that had come to investigate one of her buoys had almost been captured by a freighter owned by an infamous slave trading civilization. Through some clever maneuvers, she had managed to make that freighter crash into a moon. This was violating more rules than he could count, but he only could respect her for doing it. He would not report any of her creative "mis"behaviors.

Back on Fir!n, he had hated Aniska with a passion. He had thought she was extremely arrogant. Now, he understood she simply knew what she was capable of and behaved accordingly. He was happy the mission was almost over, soon he could meet her in person again.

For now, both stayed in cloak and only had a very general idea of where each others ships were.

---

(OOC: If it's not too much to ask for, I hope to be joined by one or more friendly ships, as well as one or two agressive ones. Please note that although I'm unarmed, that doesn't mean I can't misuse the one special technology I do have - if you don't want your ship damaged, don't fire at me, but if you want to see something interesting, then do :) . Also, note that my cloaking technology is no joke - this culture invested all research in evasive technology rather than weapons. It is very unlikely anyone would be able to see through my cloak when I'm not transmitting a signal.)

Aniska noticed the message from the Kewen appear on her left main screen. She smiled, these looked promising. She also read a message from the AI of her ship, telling her one really, really, really big ship as well as four really big ships had appeared in a weird way (OOC: these are not cloaked, right?). Also promising, these appeared to have technology not yet known to her civilization. But while they weren't talking to her, it would be better to focus on the ones that were more willing to talk, and keep an eye on the ones that weren't talking.

A few more taps at her keyboard, and the buoy stopped transmitting and disappeared back into cloak. Two seconds later, a big ship appeared five meters next to where the buoy had been. It was one kilometer long, one meter wide at one end and two meters wide at the other. It looked like translucent silver.

---

"What the flying **** is that?" thought Jonathan. He let one of his cameras zoom in on the narrow end of the new ship. It wasn't translucent, but rather mostly made up of empty space, like a spiderweb. The parts that weren't made of empty space were arranged in elaborate floral patterns. How could something that fragile ever fly? Then he noticed the name on the front end of the ship: Elegy II. Jonathan cursed, evidently Aniska had put her hands on some very advanced alien technology. He would have no choice but to report it, and she would be in big trouble.

---

Three seconds later, the fragile looking ship began to transmit an unencoded message: "Greetings, friendly aliens. Do not be afraid. I am ambassador Aniska of The Free Priesthood, child of the planet Fir!n, looking to learn about your culture and to forge alliances. If that is alright with you, please transmit your public key so we can agree on a meeting place."

Aniska frantically typed at her keyboard, and half a minute later another message was transmitted: "The invitation just transmitted is extended to both the Kewen and to the aliens who have not yet identified themselves."

"Granted, RC2 bring all scanners online."
"FC1 charge all Main Mass Driver cannons, prepare for hostile engagement."
"EC1 activate warp tunnel generator."

Captain Hugo Aurélie - named after an ancient emperor Aurelius who ruled a vast empire over thirty thousand years ago - wandered across the deck in his room. He was an aged man, with scars crisscrossing his pale and hard face. But somewhere in the furrows in his face there was kindness and understanding - and this was exactly why he had been chosen for this mission.

A thin line of blue-ish light appeared above his standardized steel-grey desk, and as he leaned forward and touched it the light flashed and formed into a rectangular shape displaying a picture of another uniformed man.

"Captain, we have picked up some sort of primitive signal. It could be a distresscall from one of our early ships, probably pre-imperial."

Hugo faced the now fully colored display.

"I see you actually have learnt something at the academy. Take us a bit closer to the source so we can do an energy and gravity scan, just in case of..."

Another day at work, he thought. His job wasn't exciting in any way and although he sometimes hated it, he knew how important it was. He was the captain of the New Republic Ship Dion, searching the old imperial worlds for survivors.

The universal communication device of the Elegy picked up a weak signal, just strong enough to be noticed at all. It was encrypted to her public key (OOC: for those who don't know about cryptography, this means only Aniska can read it, it will look much like random noise to everyone else). Aniska opened the message on her right main screen:

Jonathan: Aniska, what IS that thing you have there?
Jonathan: I've let you get away with a lot, but keeping alien technology for yourself is against the rules, y'know, and this time I can see no reason for your breaking the rules.

She sighed, and started typing.

Aniska: Keep your shirt on, man. I only reprogrammed some of my nanos and fed them this rock I found floating about.
Jonathan: Oh.
Jonathan: That's clever.
Aniska: You have seen nothing yet, I'm half hoping we'll meet some hostiles that will fire at my "little" decoy. It will be interesting.
Jonathan: When things get "interesting" with you, I usually want to be as far away from it as possible ;) .
Aniska: Now shut up before they notice our signals.

---

Jonathan felt amazed. In between diplomacy and flying away from fights at maximum acceleration, Aniska had managed to invent a new use for a technology nobody ever gave much thought to. The hulls of Fir!n spaceships were covered in a layer of nanobots, that would both provide cloaking and serve as light self-healing armor. Nobody had ever thought of building a construction out of nanos only, in the gravity of Fir!n it was impossible. But in space it wasn't...

(OOC to Imperial isa: you'll notice there is something missing from that rock of yours ;) )

(OOC: "public key" is not from a show, it's a concept from 20th century computer science. It's the information you freely give away to everyone so they can create messages that only you can read (by using your "private key"). I imagine that in the far future, secure communications would still start with an exchange of public keys, although of course the actual cryptographic algorithms that use these keys will be different.)

Aniska switched on the voice command system of the Elegy. Normally she preferred to type, because her species had weak vocal chords. However, she knew she would soon have to do so many things at once that she would need to use both voice and keyboard. "Elegy, what did the big ones just send us? This file looks too small to be a one time pad, never mind that it would be foolish to send a one time pad in cleartext anyway." "It's a public key certificate, standard type, labeled to expire at end of session." "Elegy, don't you think people shouldn't use technology they don't understand?" "Well I'm happy to have someone who understands me." Aniska smiled, she was quite proud of having added a sense of humor to her ship AI.

"Elegy, we need to give the big ones a reason to want to talk with us. What do we know about them?" "They just picked up the rock from which you used the ore to make the Elegy II" "WHAT???" "I don't understand, what do they want with a rock that doesn't contain anything useful anymore?" "It's their rock." "I don't understand, why would anyone want to own a rock?" "I'll explain that to you later, OK?" "Agreed."

This was bad. If she didn't give the big ones their material, they might accuse any of the ships present of stealing it, which could lead to a fight. On the other hand, if she changed the Elegy II back into raw materials right under everyones noses, she would lose face, and worse, she would lose the only thing that she could use to defend herself against any of the huge ships nearby. She decided that the safest thing to do would be to cloak the Elegy II, change its shape, disable the nanos it was made of, give it back to the big ones, and pretend the Elegy II still existed. Cloaking might alarm any of the aliens, though, so she needed to find an excuse to do it. The right story to play started to take shape in her mind.

She sent a message to the big ships:

Meeting in person is the only truly secure way of exchanging information. I take it you're not interested in sharing information just for the sake of it. So be it. You appear to be miners, perhaps you might be interested in buying the ore purification technology of my people. By the way, sorry about using all the ore from that rock, I didn't know it was yours.

"That should at least keep them from firing at the others", she thought.

The voice of the AI sounded somewhat alarmed: "Aniska, someone new is scanning!" "Don't worry about it, Elegy, you know they can't see us." "They fired ECCMS!" "Evasive maneuver!"

At the same time, the reply from the Kewen came in. Aniska quickly read it, and replied:

Sorry for confusing you with the old-fashioned descriptive term "public key". Using words like that is necessary to be understood by primitives, they get all confused and sometimes angry by receiving something like the following...

"Elegy, can you guess what I want you to do?" "I think you want me to start meeting place negotiations with the Kewen in your name, through a standard secure connection. I'll use the Elegy II as a relay." "Correct. Do it."

The Elegy AI sent the following encrypted message to the Kewen:

This is Lady Aniska. Although I appreciate being invited on one of your ships, I'm afraid regulations force me to decline in the present situation. I would prefer to meet on an uninhabited planet with a type 4 atmosphere, that is nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide in typical amounts and pressure. Attached to this message is a list of suitable locations on nearby planets. You pick one. To the best of my knowledge there aren't any carnivores larger than 0.2 meters on any of these planets.

Meanwhile, the message from the Ziolis appeared on screen. Aniska successfully tried to open a secure connection to their ship, and sent a message:

Never mind about public keys. I am currently negotiating with the Kewen about a meeting place on a planet. If they are allies of yours, or unknown to you, maybe I can meet you there too. I'm afraid I'll have to decline your offer to come aboard one of your ships. Maybe sometime in the future.

If they don't care about the ore, then what could possibly be interesting about a rock? They don't seem very talkative, so we're not going to find out. Pick up the buoy, we're going to visit a planet and won't be coming back here."

To Imperial isa:

Understood. Good luck with whatever it is you're doing, and farewell.

She had been lucky, they let her get away with taking the ore. But she didn't know half how lucky she was that the Ziolis were friendly. They had seen through the cloak immediately, evading the ECCM was unnecessary.

(OOC: to Ziolis: which two of my three ships did you see? I have two Angel class ships out there (Elegy and Snowflake II)and a really big needle shaped decoy made of nanobots (Elegy II). One of the two Angels is staying at a distance and not interfering, so I assume you didn't notice that one, but it's just as possible that you don't consider the decoy a ship. Please clarify.)

(OOC: skipping the boring negotiations about a planet to meet on, if anyone disagrees we can revert this and move the following scenes to some later post)

After receiving a message from the Kewen addressed to both her and the Ziolis that specified a planet from her list, and confirming that message, Aniska cloaked the Elegy II, and commanded it to change into a solid cube. It would have been quite beautiful to watch if it had not been cloaked, but she preferred the safety of not showing the thing was just a decoy over showing off. Next she ordered the nanos to decompose, to avoid giving away the technology to random aliens who might stumble upon it. Slowly the cube became visible again. Now all that remained of the Elegy II was a big block of very pure ore, with a large inscription in it in several languages on each of its sides: "For the lucky finder. With compliments, Lady Aniska of the Free Priesthood". She forwarded the coordinates of and on the planet to Jonathan, and left.

About an hour later Aniska landed. There was still an hour and a half left before the meeting, plenty of time to eat. The Elegy had unintentionally been inaccurate in its communications with the aliens. There was one large predator on this planet. Her.
To her delight, there was a large patch of high grass near her landing spot. She could hear small things move around in it.
A 170 centimeters tall humanoid, she could only just see over the grass. About 10 meters in front of her, something was moving, she could tell from the movements of the grass. An estimate of direction and speed, some quick calculations, a jump, and she caught it - a furry creature similar to a large rabbit. It didn't even get a chance to scream.
She ate the raw meat, thanked the soul of the animal for bringing her a tasty meal, and offered the leftovers to her god. The rest of the time before the aliens arrived she spent relaxing hidden in the tall grass, combing her long dark blue hair.

(OOC: Human? I guess not! :D )

Unfortunately the systems of the Elegy had already discarded the single session public key created for the Imperial isa to talk to Aniska. All that was received was random gibberish, that was assumed to be cosmic noise and ignored.

(OOC: The sensible response to a single session key is to return another single session key. The session has been closed by Aniska, so...
BTW, you can replicate that block of pure ore that once was my decoy if you wish.)

---

Jonathan landed two kilometers away from the location Aniska had sent him the coordinates of. He strapped his hunting rifle to his back, took his binoculars, carefully memorized the location of his cloaked ship, and started climbing a small hill. He had a good view from there: one group of aliens had arrived, and Aniska was nowhere to be seen. She probably was hiding somewhere, or waiting inside her ship for the other aliens to arrive.

(OOC: The rifle is no threat to anyone. It doesn't have a two kilometer range, and if you'd fire it at something human sized, chances are you would just annoy that creature and get killed by it. It's meant for catching food only. For now I'll leave it to you to figure out why Jonathan needs a rifle to catch food, whereas Aniska can hunt with her bare hands without effort. It will make sense soon enough.)

(OOC: For clarity: Aniska didn't reply to the explanatory message from IISA. That was a comment from the "storyteller")

Due to the small size of their ships (if you're unarmed, speed is everything. Angels are not much more than engines with small cockpits attached to them), the only way for Free Priesthood diplomats to stay alive was to eat whatever they could find on the planets used for meetings. Jonathan had found a tree with large fruits. He picked one, took one of the pins that were stuck through a pocket on his uniform, and stabbed it into the fruit. A little green light blinked at the end of the pin: edible. He put the pin back in his uniform, and took a bite... only to spit it out when he noticed the Ziolis landing.

(OOC: intimidating indeed... to Jonathan. The only thing that will impress Aniska is to beat her in an unarmed fight, which is unlikely to happen because she doesn't like to hurt sentient beings and she is rather fast and strong, too. Oh, and of course she is rather arrogant, like was mentioned before, which also helps in making her difficult to intimidate)

---

Aniska emerged from the grass, took a short sprint, jumped, and gracefully landed in the middle of the area between the two groups of aliens. "Trying to impress?", she thought to herself, "sorry, doesn't work on me, I use that strategy all the time myself. Besides, being an impressive species like mine is way more impressive than having some big machines."

She didn't know what the aliens could throw at her, but anything either side tried would surely hit the other side, which neither side could afford because it would start a war with an ally.

---

Jonathan watched through his binoculars, and nearly dropped them. "Gods! Why does she always have to pull stunts like that?" They were supposed to use their cloaked ships as a shields until they were absolutely sure aliens were friendly.

---

Aniska switched on the small amplifier and universal translator she wore on a leather collar, and began her speech:

Welcome, ladies, gentlemen, and possible other genders. I am ambassador Aniska, I represent the three sentient species of the planet Fir!n. To give you some idea of who you're dealing with, I'll give you a summary of our history and a description of each species.

The first sentient species on Fir!n were the natives, the Fir!nans. I am not one of them. They are solitary predators, and masters of nanotechnology and biotechnology. They use the same cloaking technology that you will have noticed my ship uses, on their bodies. Their only interest is the stability of the ecosystem that feeds them. For many millennia they wiped out all alien invaders, for exactly that reason. They look not quite unlike me (when visible, anyway), but their hair is a lighter shade of blue. We don't know how many of them there are - it's difficult to count invisible beings that want to be left alone - but their population seems stable. You don't have to worry about Fir!nans leaving our planet, they simply don't care about the rest of the universe as long as it leaves them alone.

The second species, also not mine, were the humans. Perhaps the Fir!nans gave them a chance because they looked similar. Anyway they were tolerated because they didn't disrupt the ecosystem. The origin of these humans was the Earth, perhaps you have heard of this planet. On earth there was an organization called the Free Priesthood. Its members were tolerant pacifists who worshipped many different gods. In the great religious wars, the free priests weren't tolerated anywhere anymore, and chose to leave Earth. There are only a few thousand of them, but their numbers are stable. They have some difficulty surviving on Fir!n because almost all life there is poisonous to them. Most of our diplomats are human, I am an exception. The Free Priesthood still exists, it is our world government.

I am a member of the third species. Almost 200 years ago, a Fir!nan who we call Mother figured out that both Fir!nans and humans had flaws that would eventually cause them to fail in defending Fir!n against invaders. Fir!nans lack the ability to cooperate - their brains simply aren't wired for it. On the other hand, humans are weak, and have no talent for technology (at least our humans don't, since they descend from priests). So Mother created the hybrids. We have complete sets of both Fir!nan and human DNA, as a result we are a combination of the best of both species in some aspects, and the average of both species in others. The mission of my species is to keep Fir!n safe, and my mission as a diplomat is to create alliances that will help keep it safe. Since our creation, the numbers of my species have been exploding, and I honestly have no idea how many of us there are except that we clearly are the majority on our planet - but don't worry about our population growth, we can easily stop it before it becomes a problem to ourselves, so it will never be anyone elses problem. Besides, if we would let it become a problem, the Fir!nans would probably wipe us out.

She paused for a moment. Invisible hyperintelligent predators, humans, mixing of species, uncontrolled population growth... all these were subjects that some aliens would respond to with violence.

Thank you for your attention. It would be nice if you would be willing to provide similar type information about yourselves, and then we can see how our species can help each other.

Hook... in!

A tiny wink appeared above the planet. Inside the flash was a single man, whistling happy, protected by a bubble of thick air.

"I knew it'd work. Just triangulate FTL signal positions, run it through your algorithms, and bam. New empty space to occupy near all interesting parties."

He paused for a moment, noticing for the first time that he was now in free-fall.

"Unless you're unlucky enough to jump near a planet."

He closed his eyes briefly, attempting to feel the level of power he had left. He'd used most of his antimatter reserves on the initial jump, and there wouldn't be much left - not enough to get outsystem, certainly. He'd just have to land.

He plummeted through the atmosphere, his airshield lighting up with heat, disgorging massive amounts of heat around him - while he could easily sustain burns, he didn't want to have to cook just to conserve energy.

Faster and faster now, he rocketed towards the landing sight. Looking down, he pinpointed the ships, and saw the Kewen.

"Oh. Kewen. That's just great. Now the whole Circle gets to know of my screwup."

Screaming towards the ground now, a flare of red-white energy, he slowed suddenly, most of what was left in his generators spent to prevent him hitting
the ground at top speed. He swooped up, and then descended slowly to the ground, looking around as he did so.

"Kewen. Hey, guys. I'm a Cyprian. Nice to see you out here."

He looked over at Anika.

"You'd be some sort of transhuman, I'm guessing. It's nice to see others out here. Can you understand me? If you can, well, I'm a Cyprian. Not at all violent, unless someone starts shooting at me."

Depends on what you consider superior, I guess. Your species doesn't seem to be very good at being stealthy, and being a bit taller won't help there. And consider your dependence on technology... Take one clone and one hybrid, take away all technology that is not integrated into their bodies, and see who will survive on a random planet full of unpleasant lifeforms. Hint: Fir!n is exactly that kind of planet. Primitive and advanced are a matter of perspective.

Aniska used the moment the Kewen was speaking to instruct her blood-nanos to start fixing her now over-stressed vocal chords. (OOC these are different from the nanos on her ship - she doesn't need to eat iron ore :) )

"Very interesting. I'm sorry to hear the humans treated your kind so poorly. I assure you our humans are not like that. They are friendly beings that would be quite helpless against hostile aliens without the Fir!nans and us. But I'll have to admit that some of them are better diplomats than I am." She quickly added: "That doesn't mean I'm not a top qualified diplomat of my planet, though."

She knew what some of the alien humans were capable of, on her missions she had heard plenty of stories. It was hard to imagine that such savage evil creatures were the same species as the humans she knew. All that injustice done by alien humans... Quick, she had to change the topic of her thoughts, before the sadness would show on her face.

"Could you tell me what kind of name 999C is? It doesn't seem to express anything, unless it simply cannot be translated. We hybrids use human names modified to have a meaning in the Fir!nan language. We choose our own names when we receive our titles. For example my name could be roughly translated as 'plays with fire'."

(OOC to Kewen: there you go, question asked.) (OOC: yes, Fir!nans do have a language, but being solitary they don't often have a use for it. Aniska inherited their weak vocal chords that aren't built for being used a lot.)

(after the appearance of the Cyprian...) "Oh my, it's raining species. Yes, I do understand you. As a top qualified diplomat I speak all languages of the species that are our allies, as well as galstandard and a number of ancient Earth languages like English. Furthermore, this little box on my collar is not just an amplifier, it contains an AI that can have a good guess at the meaning of sentences spoken in any language."

(OOC: the box thingy compares what it hears to lots of known languages, detects emotion, and keeps track of context - rather simple really, but effective enough)

"I assure you I am here for peaceful purposes, I am a diplomat representing the three sentient species of the planet Fir!n. You just missed the beginning of my speech. "Thank you (Ziolis). The Fir!nans have been masters of biotechnology and nanotechnology for many millennia before the humans arrived. Please understand that my simple fabric clothing does not reflect a lack of technology, we simply consider it unnecessary to carry weapons and heavy armor. We rely on our diplomacy, tactical talents, speed and stealth, both on land and in space. I would wear the more impressive Fir!nan covering if it wasn't inconvenient for a diplomat to be invisible or the tight fit in uncloaked mode wouldn't distract male humanoid aliens so much.

We have no need for your biotechnology, but we are highly interested in acquiring some sort of teleportation technology.

I can make the following offers to all of you that wish to become our allies:

If you are religious, we will be happy to build temples to your gods on our planet, provided, of course, that you supply priests. Please note that this does not mean your priests will become part of our government.

You may also open an embassy on our planet. Many other species have done so, it could be a convenient way to make many contacts for you.

Third, we can trade. Fir!n doesn't have much mineral resources, and we don't really need those either, but we do build very high performance spaceship engines and have skilled engineers that you might want to hire. Our imports consist mostly of foods suitable for our humans. Trade of biotechnology and nanotechnology is currently restricted."

(OOC: in other words, we don't need much, but we'd like you to put some civilians on our planet so you'll get angry at anyone who might attack us)

(OOC: if you want to make Aniska nervous, start asking specific questions about hybrid reproduction. "Oh. Well, I'm sure I could rustle up a few interested xenobiologists and xenologists out to Fir!n."

In fact, the notice had already been posted to the 'net, and, so far as he was aware, quite a few ships were being rustled up quickly to come and meet this new species.

"New species are always a fascination to us - and you say you're a hybrid? I mean no offense, but are you the result of genetic splicing, or actual intercourse between your two parent races?"

A breath.

"I can hear radio, yes, if you'd choose to send your message that way. And, in all honesty, we're idly curious about a few things - mainly biological information of the Fir!n and Fir!n-human hybrids, and we'd be willing to trade a few technological trifles for them. Aniska had to hide her disappointment when she saw the walker. Such a crude thing. "Actually, we don't mind walking. After hundreds of years on Fir!n, the humans have gotten used to it, and my own species considers it the best mode of short distance transportation. Also, these "walkers" would never fit on our ships and I'm pretty sure the Fir!nans would... disassemble them if we tried to use them at home. But I appreciate the gesture. And this teleportation technology is very interesting..."

She studied the holo-prints for a while. "Very interesting, but not quite what I meant. Perhaps I was using the wrong word... You see, although our ships are very fast, they need to be traveling at a quite high speed before they can go faster than light. Our engines use a difficult to explain principle from our own extended relativity theory that makes the universe appear compressed in the direction the ship is traveling: from the perspective of the ship, it is going much slower than light, but its effective speed is way faster than light. You can imagine all this acceleration and deceleration often leads to accidents. We have noticed many aliens have a technology that lets them disappear from one place and reappear in another, without moving at dangerous speeds. Their engines must be based on completely different principle, otherwise the g-forces would certainly kill them. This is the technology we wish to acquire, we call it teleportation because that is what it looks like to us."

She gave back the holo-prints. "Thank you for showing me these prints. With what I just learned from them, we could have similar technology in ten to twenty years, and since we have no use for it now it is unlikely we will buy the designs. But it would be unfair if I didn't give you anything in return for helping the progress of our science." She gave the Ziolis diplomat a small data storage device. "This is a textbook on Fir!nan extended relativity, including a simple engine design. That will save you the trouble of taking apart one of our more complicated engines and trying to figure out how it works. Furthermore I give you my word that should you wish to open an embassy on Fir!n, you will be assigned a top location. If there's anything else you want, just ask, and if reasonable and possible, you will get it."

Aniska turned to where the invisible voise had come from. "Welcome, invisible alien. I am ambassador Aniska of the planet Fir!n. Would you be willing to identify yourself? Because I don't know anything about you, I have no idea what kind of offers to make to you. I could tell you about all the technologies and other assets we have, but this would be bad for strategic reasons, never mind that it would be a waste of everyones time."

"Intercourse with a Fir!nan?!!!" She laughed so hard it hurt. "I wouldn't recommend that. One does not **** with Fir!nans, in both meanings of the phrase. But of course, you missed my introduction. Transmitting the recording now."

"No, the Fir!nans created us using biotechnology. We have a full set of genes of both species, although possibly our Fir!nan genomes have been slightly modified for compatibility. We know that children without two copies of each Fir!nan chromosome won't hatch, anyway, so your suggestion wouldn't work."

(OOC: good job, by asking a ridiculous question you made her laugh and give away information she shouldn't. For those without knowledge of biotech: she gave away that humans and hybrids are at least somewhat compatible, as well as that hybrids lay eggs)

"Trading technology for biological information... that is an interesting deal. Would your people like to explore our planet? I have to warn you you can't bring any big machines, weapons, chemicals or anything else that could potentially be harmful. This isn't because I worry about you hurting the fragile nature of Fir!n, but because I worry about the nature of Fir!n hurting you. You'll need protective clothing, and you will be accompanied by hybrid guides at all times. Anyone who goes exploring without complying to these conditions will definitely die. That said, anyone interested in biology will have the time of their life."

(OOC: Think of the Amazon. Add hyperintelligent and very strong invisible predators (Fir!nans). Add that the Fir!nans have genetically engineered all creatures to be even more mean and poisonous than they already were. Now imagine that it covers a whole planet. That's Fir!n.)

An illusion. Right. She turned her head so the alien would only just be in her field of view, and waved her hand in front of her eyes to distract herself. She could indeed see the alien clearly now. Perhaps she could sell them cloaking nanos to become even less visible... no of course she couldn't. Strictly forbidden. The council would make sure she would never see daylight again if she did that.

"Nobody is likely to give away technology, but you're making it very difficult for me to figure out what to offer to you. Say, do you happen to be allied with some aliens I met earlier, that were flying around in enormous ships, picking up useless rocks for no apparent reason?"

(OOC: the "crude" comment was a thought. It would be very unprofessional for her to say something like that aloud. You don't read minds, do you? If you did, you probably wouldn't be so friendly.)

"Oh I'm sure you could improve on the engine design. It's an educational design, meant to explain the principle our engines use. The engines we use in our spaceships and also offer for sale are much more complicated. We know everyone who buys our engines tries to reverse engineer them so they can buy similarly efficient engines themselves. I'm saving you that trouble. You let me see the principle behind one of your technologies, so I show you the principle behind one of ours."

Aniska buried her face in her hands for a moment. What do you give to someone from a planet where there are Fir!nans that destroy everything that changes their ecosystem? Why, you give them an invasive species of course!

"I'm sorry, but it seems you do not quite understand what I am and what kind of planet I am from. That carnivorous slug looks really interesting, but I am sure it couldn't survive outside our cities. And what good is a hunting pet in a city or on a spaceship? Furthermore the only thing we need to hunt is our bare hands anyway. And let me be honest about my planet: every single thing that happens on Fir!n doesn't happen because the humans and hybrids want it, but because the Fir!nans allow it, and the Fir!nans are rather, shall we say, conservative. Last but not least my ship is simply not built to transport gifts."

She tapped a few keys on her wrist-mounted computer, and a short distance away the Elegy uncloaked.

"Look at that. She's pretty, and possibly the fastest thing in the known universe, but she's not a freighter. An engine and a cramped cockpit that's all."

---

"What the hell does she think she's doing? Showing off her ship???" said Jonathan to himself. "Has she ever read the rules at all?"

---

"I'm sorry I have to keep refusing your gifts, and I'm really sorry if that offends you. If that is the case, I'll make sure a larger ship will be used for the next meetings of our kinds, and that we will bring some gifts ourselves. The only gifts that I bring and that I can accept here and now are friendship and information. Which reminds me... As a gesture of goodwill I will give all present here the intel we have gathered on hostile groups. Mostly 'stay away from ships that look like this' type stuff. Transmitting... now."

"Ah. I was merely curious about their alien origin."

A sigh.

"If we were to explore your planet, I suspect that our very nature would be somewhat antithetical to your restrictions. With the slightest modification, a Cyprian has, through the use of hyperminiaturized antimatter reactors, enough power to level a small town. When one counts my natural ability to synthesize most chemicals, and the rather complicated biofactories I contain, composed mainly of nanites, I can breathe in almost anything, although, of course, it's far simpler to wear protective suits. I'm assuming basic xenobiology labs would be fine, however? We can, if needed, shed most of our protections and abilities, though you would find few but the most dedicated biologists willing to do that."

He then remembered that the two shocks - the rather poor arrival, and the discovery that there were new, interesting people to meet, had seemingly managed to do away with his manners.

"I'm Ktek, by the way. Citizen Ktek of the Cyprian Authority, if you want a formal title. No actual diplomatic authority, though I'm arguing for temporary powers to be given to me right now. I assume the Authority will probably want to exchange diplomats, and, of course, there are quite a number of interested biologists just itching to leave. Apparently-"

He paused for a moment, blinked, and smiled.

"-there's already five ships commissioned in a capacity to go to Fir!n, one that's outfitted with a full AI and biology lab. Thankfully, I don't know where your homeworld is, or there'd be a bunch of xenologists in orbit already incessantly begging to be allowed to land ."

Another pause.

"And I've just been granted permission to trade away those technologies I outlined previously on behalf of the Authority. Although I don't actually have hardcopies, I could either transmit myself, or put in a request for some proper data storage from Cypria, though that could take minutes - hours, even."

He laughed. "Enough of business, however. How long have you been exploring the stars? And, more importantly, what's the most interesting thing you've seen so far?"

all OOC:

Last thing I'm ever going to say about rocks.

My general impression of the IISA is that they're the kind of very advanced civilization that has no interest whatsoever to do any kind of business with a civilization that has only just begun to make contacts. They're not curious, and they already have everything TFP could offer to them. The first post makes it quite obvious from the huge ships and things said:

let not worry about them till they try something, for now lets try and find that rock with the ore we picked up

Role playing implies interaction, so obviously TFP has to "try something". Being unarmed, the only option is to make the rock useless by removing all ore. At first IISA seems to be interested in ore:

program the Replicator with scan of the iron ore from the recon drone and stand by to join the fleet at rondayview point

Fat lot of good that's going to do with there being no ore in the rock anymore, it might even cause the boss to be annoyed. Excellent for RP. Maybe fire a warning shot at that visible decoy or something. But no. Scared by my nanos I guess. By the way I read this as the drone having brought the rock to the ship for it to be scanned there, I now see it can be read another way.

A moment later, the IISA doesn't care about ore anymore, but rather about something else inside the rock:

"miner's ha if she only knew what was inside"said the Captain
"it's now locked up in the safe sir"said a Clone

I just assumed a really big ship would have a really big safe. Why not? But the point is, how am I supposed to RP against someone who completely changes their motives to remove the only thing about which I could interact with them in a meaningful way?

It seems like the only reason the IISA is in this thread is to tell how incredibly superior their species is. What's the point? Of course it is! To make things interesting I gave my species and characters serious weaknesses (no weapons, no serious armor, problems with their engine technology, a preference for ships that can be destroyed by a missile that other species would refer to as a "fart", etc etc) and character flaws (animal instincts and inflated egos for the hybrids, humans being bureaucratic sissies). Yes, your species is without flaws. We know that now, no need to repeat it.

And then on top of that there's the godmoding. Sorry, but I don't accept anyone telling me what my species can and cannot do without a somewhat sensible explanation why that would be so. I mean, what's the difference between me claiming that anyone who makes Aniska angry will spontaneously explode and you claiming you can always escape to a dimension where noone can follow? Except for the fact I make no such claim...

Sorry, had to get that out of my system. Back to roleplaying.

not every thing need a big safe you would have find this out
the drone having brought the rock to the ship for it to be scanned there, I now see it can be read another way
i said it was a Recon drone Recon short for reconnaissance that all it dose and it was sent out way before you came up with this idea of taking all the ore

"Perhaps it was unwise indeed. This sort of thing is why most of our diplomats are human, we hybrids have a bit of a fiery character. On the other hand, the humans wouldn't try to talk with multiple groups of unknown aliens at once, and would leave talks when uninvited guests appear."

One moment, it looked like she was going to make the best deal ever made, the next it was almost gone.

"Antimatter reactors would indeed be a problem. Your ability to synthesize chemicals less so, if we can find a way to contain it. I think the protective suits could be adapted to protect both sides. By the way, our atmosphere is of the same type as the one of this planet, you wouldn't need protection against it. I'm mostly worried about all the highly poisonous small life that could get under normal clothes or through the joints in normal armor. I suggest we supply the protective clothing, considering there will be lots of walking and you would likely bring something more heavy than necessary because you don't know what exactly you need to be protected against. I'm not sure what you mean by xenobiology labs. You can bring portable instruments, small nets, jars and the like, and are welcome to set up any kind of lab in our cities under the condition that any kind of accident that might happen in them will not affect anything outside the lab. There are two threats we need to protect you against: on one hand there are the small lifeforms, on the other there are the Fir!nans that will get angry if you break anything or disrupt the ecosystem. Even harmless bug repellents are a bad idea."

"Welcome, Ktek. Don't worry about your lack of introduction. Politeness appears to be unknown in most of the universe, I'm quite used to not being told names. I am Lady Aniska, top qualified second level diplomat of the Free Priesthood on Fir!n. If anyone is offended about me being second level: the top level ones don't make first contacts."

"About those technologies, there is no need for you to hurry to pay us. If you trust us to keep you alive on Fir!n, I believe we can easily trust you to pay a reasonable price." (her thoughts: "Who cares if you want to pay us for being allowed to explore our planet at all. Your biologists will want to make sure the ecosystems of Fir!n are protected, which happens to be exactly what we want. What more could we wish for than a powerful natural ally? The tech is just a bonus.")

"How long 'we' have been exploring the stars depends on what you mean by 'us'. As far as we know the Fir!nans never left our planet. The humans obviously already were exploring when they arrived, but after their arrival they never went very far anymore, until the hybrids were made. There is no clear moment at which we truly started exploring again, my guess is about 120 years ago. We have seen many things, the weirdest I have personally seen is a planet that its inhabitants call 'Schllfup'. Literally everything there is made of goo, and unfortunately the locals insist on greeting you by hugging. Imagine being introduced to their parliament... They are good philosophers, very hard to beat in rational arguments."

Quick summary:

TFP offers temples and embassies on own planet, as well as trading of technologies (especially their efficient fast engine tech that has the unfortunate downside of not allowing jumping straight to superluminal speed). They want to buy tech that has that feature, presumably so they can make ships with both types of engines: still very fast, but fewer accidents.

Attempts to trade are made, but not very successfully.

The Cyprians seem interested in tourism/research in exchange for tech, while TFP actually can't wait to get scientists of a powerful civilization to visit as it would presumably mean protection. I guess the Kewen could visit too, if we can figure something out to protect the joints in their exoskeletons from small poisonous lifeforms.

That's about it. Did I miss anything?

The Gondaoda (http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa218/Boico101/7-20-071.jpg) was a scientific vessel that was sent out, deep into unknown space to discover new life and new habbitable planets. The Solean Union had only discovered other intelligent life around a hundred years ago, and were eager to discover more so that the Union could learn from the other, hopefully more advanced, cultures and species. Zaid was making his way down the long corridor that ran the full length of the ship when he noticed a display screen was showing some unusual readings. He started to scan the area. He found what seemed to be a gathering of ships.

"Anila! Anila look!" He shouted to his fellow crew member. She came over and looked at the readings.

"I think we ought to tell the captain about this." She was a lot warier than Zaid, and was worried that the more races and species they find, the more potential invaders the Union could have.
The two made their way to the bridge. After a long disscusion between the captain and the two ambassadors on board, the descision was made to contact the unknown ships, the ship sped up towards the position of the gathering and a message was sent to each one of the ships.

To unidentified vessels, we are the Holy Empire of The Solean Union, we come in the name of peace and science. we would like to learn more about your race, culture and science. We have only defensive weapons aboard our ship and we mean you no harm.

Aniska received the message on her WMDA (Wrist Mounted Digital Assistant). "Hey everyone, it looks like we're going to have yet another uninvited group joining the talks. Gotta say it's getting quite crowded here for an uninhabited planet!"

reply:

Am ambassador Aniska of the Free Priesthood. Here for reason like yours. Other aliens here armed, I am not. Everyone seems friendly. This area of space quite crowded, expect high probability of hostile encounters. Because of your modest weapons, suggest landing whole ship if possible to enable quick departure. Hope to see you soon.

(OOC: no my English didn't just get very bad, WMDAs are inconvenient for sending text)

Crowded... high probability of hostile encounters... It was getting too crowded here, and they were attracting attention from random ships. She had a bad feeling about this. Aniska flipped a switch on her collar box. "Elegy, scan for ships near this planet." "Lots of them. Heavily armed and locked onto Ziolis." Not her lucky day after all. "Elegy, cloak and park in a different spot."

Jonathan ran back to his ship. Now where exactly did he put it? He had memorized the location, but being under some stress now his memory didn't work as perfectly as usual. *DOINK!* ... Ow! There it was.

---

"Elegy, start the space compressor and send your location to Jonathan." A low rumbling noise came out of an entirely different direction than the one in which the Elegy had last been seen. "See you guys in a bit!" She ran towards the sound and got aboard her still cloaked ship.

Moments later another cloaked Angel landed near hers. "What was that plan against hostiles you had earlier?" "Never mind, not possible without the Elegy II. Are you coming with me?" "There's someone up there who sounds similar to us. I guess I'll have to do what I would want them to do if I were in their situation. Also, I'd rather be dead than captured." "Good. How about uncloaking to draw a bit more attention to ourselves?" "Why not." "Second to make a scratch on a pirate ship buys me a drink."

Attention everyone, please enjoy the demonstration of our engine technology.

The rumbling got twice as loud when the Snowflake II started its own space compressor. It changed to a high pitched noise and then became inaudible. Thrusters hissed, then the two small ships silently shot up into the sky at a quite insane speed, without even leaving a trail.

(OOC: if you compress the space in front of you, your actual engines can be very modest and you'll still go fast.)

"Who do we annoy first?" "How about the one following that lighter ship that seems about to land?"

IM conversation. Aniska: black. Jonathan: blue.

You don't think they will fall for it again? What makes you think these pirates know what a relativistic slipstream is?

Well, we just showed it to them, didn't we?

That's true. Better wait for an opportunity for a different trick. Still I would be surprised if they had any clue what just happened to those two ships of theirs. But I'm even more surprised that you're up here with me. What about your rules?

Rules should be changed when they're wrong. You're right, when we invite aliens to talk with us, their safety becomes our responsibility.

I'm happy you see my point of view. That's why I brought you here, after all.

What do you mean?

I don't actually dislike you, I told the council that I do because I wanted them to send you with me, so you could see me work and learn to understand me.

... ... ... What?

Say, how would you feel about going to Purple Bay with me?

You're asking me for a date in the middle of a spacefight???

I'm pleased you think that, but no. Some aliens will probably want to give us technology in exchange for the privilege of studying the nature of Fir!n. I plan to manipulate the council into making me the guide for these aliens. I need a competent diplomat with me to convince them I'm not trying to kill them.

This is too crazy. Aliens who are clearly completely out of their minds, manipulating the council... what other insane ingredients does your plan have?

I don't work for the council. I work for Fir!n, and it's in the best interest of Fir!n that someone more powerful than us will appreciate the planet.

Do you have any idea what would happen if I reported what you just said?

Yes I do. Maybe you didn't notice, but you passed my test for deserving my trust a few minutes ago. Now, do you have any ideas for things to do about those pirates?

Pretend to surrender, ask permission to come aboard, then ram their airlock?

And you say I'm crazy! What if you get stuck? Please don't try that.

"Alright, deploy solar sails at the back of the ship, it'll at least slow us down a little."

The silver square of reflective material unfolded out the back and the Razgriz II slowed down a little.

But by now they were entering the atmosphere and the sails would burn up in reentry.
The Free Priesthood
03-06-2008, 10:09
Aniska moved her ship to a few meters behind the Razgriz II, and switched the "space compressor" to full reverse for a few seconds to give the Ziolis ship a little more effective distance to slow down on, then moved back to orbit to at least save herself. If the Razgriz II had had any active method of braking left, this maneuver would for sure have slowed it down a lot, now it only allowed the solar sails to stay intact a little longer. She hoped it would be enough.

(OOC: That was very dangerous: space compressors shouldn't be used in orbit or descent because a steering mistake or compressor failure would surely lead to a crash. In this case the risk of crashing into the ship in front would be quite high, too. Add that these things aren't normally used in reverse mode... A quite insane thing to do, I had to think for a while to decide whether even Aniska would take such a risk.)

(OOC on pseudophysics involved: the effect of a reversed SC on passive braking would be none at all, since the "stretched" atmosphere would appear less dense and therefore slow down the ship just as much as it would have been on the equivalent unstretched trajectory. However the solar sails would have more time to dissipate the heat caused by air friction during the maneuver, making them less hot after the maneuver than they would have been without it. That means they can provide braking for a little while more after. Makes sense, right? But what about the gravity of the planet? Wouldn't that get more time to pull the ship down and move it to more dense atmosphere where the sail will burn up more quickly? Answer: no. Gravity is an attribute of spacetime, and SCs don't actually "compress" space, they modify spacetime to make it seem so. Therefore the gravity would appear lessened to still have the same effective effect on the ship as without the SC.)

"Damage report!" "Main turret offline. It looks a bit bent, but there is no evidence of an explosion. We must have hit a cloaked ship."

(OOC: "cloaked ship" - just my two ships trying to make the pirate a bit less dangerous by trying to disable its weapons. I'm writing the FP actions against the black sun from the perspective of the pirates now, I think it's more amusing.)

The Black Sun ship landed about 100m away from the crashed ship.
"Damn, it's muddy here. Do a soil scan to find the safest route for our troups to surround the Ziolis."

A somewhat short, blue haired figure appeared from the shadows, threw a ball of grey goo at the Black Sun ship, and disappeared again. The grey stain it made on the ship was only small, but it started growing, slowly at first, then faster and faster. After a few minutes, parts of the ship started collapsing.
"What the... Evacuate! Hey, why aren't you in uniform?" "Some of that stuff that is eating our ship hit my armor, and turned it to dust, sir." "My god. Abandon ship! Do not touch the grey stuff! Take any undamaged weapons near you and get off this ship ASAP!"

All pirates safely got out of their ship before it collapsed completely, although a few of them lost their armor.

(OOC: Destructive nanobots. How evil :) )

The Black Sun pirates walked off in the direction of the Ziolis ship. Aniska ran to the place from which she had heard the scream, and found Jonathan barely alive. She counted his wounds and exit wounds. Ten and ten. At least there was nothing stuck in him.

"Listen. I can let you die now, or I can fix you up, but then you will die a much more painful death if none of the aliens can provide the right medicines. What do you want?" "I'd like to go to Purple Bay with you." "Okay, fix and pain it is then."

She took the knife from his belt, made a large cut in each of her hands and pressed them against his wounds.

"Stay awake... I'll talk to you to make you stay awake... So, Purple Bay eh? Are you looking forward to showing the aliens around, or are you asking me for a date?" "Yes." "Oh is that so? Look, you're bleeding less now, hang in there. Sorry you're going to have some really ugly scars."

A few minutes later, the nanos had closed the wounds, but his immune system started responding to the other components of her blood. She dragged him into the cockpit of the Elegy (which really wasn't designed for two people) and flew to the meeting location on the other side of the planet.

"Ktek! Ktek! Are you still here? Anyone? This human needs immunorepressants! He lost lots of blood, too."

To hide who we were, we traveled in a small ship without cloaking or significant weapons. When we found Jonathan's beacon, Xani insisted we would talk to him. OOC: I know I know, how the hell does a ship morph? Well as I said, "were almost legends for their role in some wars. "
So now you know why.
But the ship-cannon only has 1 shot because of the massive power it has, they miss 50%

(OOC: Such cruelty... What has the Bloody Dawn ever done to you?)

The remaining Bloody Dawn ships launched two bigger missiles each. Four for the Crusade, and two for the Fifth Empire. Having learned that their shields wouldn't stop the bigger missiles, the FE ships gracefully evaded them, then started "defending" themselves again. The laser defense system of the Bloody Dawn leader was disabled.

(OOC: Things that morph are both scary and potentially fragile, so I fire at them)

Meanwhile, down on the planet...

"Ouch! This "tea" drink is hot! By the way, have you seen the Solean shuttle? It should have landed nearby a while ago."

IC:

"Point Defenses online. Charging Pulse Cannon 75%."
"Gunships taking off now..."
"PDS have destroyed three missiles, T-minus 2 minutes to impact."

But by chance the missile hit one of the departing VP-6 gunships.

Bloody Dawn:

"Our Ziolisian adversaries appear to be charging an enormous energy weapon."
"My recommended course of action would then be to launch the maximum capacity of larger missiles at said weapon."
"I find myself in agreement with your proposition."

Six large missiles were launched, aimed at the pulse cannon.

OOC: Sorry! I`ve not been able to reply for a while.

IC:

The missile from the Bloody Dawn ship hit the Warbird and knocked its sheilds down to just 10%. At the order of the captain, the warbird started to fire its Mark 4 phasers, and poleron torpedoes. It also prepared to cloak so that they were ready if they took too much damage.

(OOC to Solean Union: any clue about how long it will take for that really slow shuttle of yours to land? I'm getting a bit bored of shooting at pirates and bringing new ones when they run out while we're waiting for everyone else to reappear.)

The laser defense systems of two (of three) Bloody Dawn ships were now disabled. The poleron torpedoes caused large explosions on these, but the armor wasn't breached yet. One Bloody Dawn ship remained unharmed.
A larger missile was fired at the Warbird, but it missed.

OOC: WTH is with the forum downs!?

IC:

3 missiles impacted the Crusade with a sickening crunch and the portside of the ship had a hole in it, inside alarms rang off the hook, emergency airlock doors sealed off the area.
"Shit! Deploy Mobile PDS."

4 small pods flew out of the damaged hangar bay and formed a perimeter around the ship.

The 3 other missiles flew off course.

88% Pulse Cannon Charge......

On the lead boarding transport...

"Captain! Boarding now, get your men ready!" yelled the pilot.

"Go go go!"

OOC:

I more or less expected that you would say the missiles evaporated when the pulse cannon fired... they were aimed at that after all.

You can bring in anything you like, but why would you if you can ask the FE to do more than just defend themselves. Also, you could send the Kewen a wake up telegram.

IC:

Are you sure you don't want us to help?

Time to call in mah colony, we is prideful sorta people.

IC:

To Fifth Empire
No we're fine.

Pulse Cannon Charged...

"Fire on the remaining Black Sun."

The cannon charged and particles of light began gathering at the tip of the cannon.

"3...2...1...Firing..."

A pulse of purple light speared the remaining Black Sun.

Meanwhile the Marines on the Bloody Dawn ship rigged a few maintenance vehicles with C-10 explosives.

OOC: Somebody find out a bout boarding party...

I'm confused. You say there are Ziolisian marines on board of one of the Bloody Dawn ships already?

(OOC: I thought they were still busy leaving, as I did not know I actually had maintenance docks. Also, I have maintenance vehicles? The BD doesn't do maintenance in space, when a ship is too broken to land for maintenance they just abandon it and make it fly into an enemy. Hm... now what could the Ziolisians have mistaken for a maintenance dock?)

Bloody Dawn:

"Camera 217 shows some humanoids applying packages to our ship."
"217...? I do not immediately recall what sector is under the surveillance of said camera."
"It is the portal to our sewage system. What response do you advise we send to these humanoids?"
The Bloody Dawn pirate in command shrugged a tentacle. "Our laser defense system has been disabled, therefore we cannot use it to remove these humanoids of which you speak. Perhaps we should lock our toilet facilities."
The second in rank pirate sent one of his tentacles far into the ship, and locked a door.

(OOC: You can hate me now :D .
By the way, I will be away for a week or so, sorry.)

23-06-2008, 00:49
OOC: It's ok to be away :)

IC:

"Sir, you smell that?"
"Uggh yeah, smells like alien crap, so I guess this isn't maintenance?"
"Probably not. Captain! Look I found a tunnel, ewww and it smells, I guess this is sewage."
"Whatever lieutenant, just turn on your air filters."

The boarding party climbed into the hole and started climbing in the sewer.
Not far ahead a sliver of light penetrated into the tunnel.

"Looks like a sewer cap or something."

Note to self: add info about Fifth Empire and Bloody Dawn to my factbook, as well as those slime aliens I mentioned somewhere.)

---

"The humanoids seem to have entered the pipeline to the sewage facility."
"Please start the cleansing program, if you would be so kind."
"Your suggestion fills me with glee."

The second in rank flipped a switch. A door closed behind the boarding party, and a strong stream of water spun along the walls of the pipe.

The boarding party crawled as fast as possible towards the cap but the water washed them away and the whole team was separated.
