Background
For now, the thread is completely open for anyone who wants to join in. This is an RP for potential suitors to attempt to court the Princess. I tried an RP (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=465724) like this a couple years ago, and for a while it went great, but for numerous reasons I essentially quashed it before anyone got to her. This time is going to be a little different and people will be able to get to her - the true difficulty will be in actually getting her to like your character. The previous RP was a bit of a mystery and me trying to keep people in the dark; I will not be doing that this time. Most things will be very blatant (except how to get into the party).

The Setting
The year is 2014.
The entire (foreseeable) story will take place on the Royal Colony of Eborall. It is the Dominion's first and largest colony with some fifty million residents. It is an island a considerable distance from the Dominion, so no part of the story will take place on the mainland. The island, though a colony of the Dominion, is ruled by the Royal Family. The Royal Family consists of Princess Cordelia (the Mother), Crown Prince Ali (b. 1985), Princess Elisa (b. 1989), and Prince Lawrenzo (b. 2007). The Crown Prince is the official ruler of the colony whereas Princess Elisa has little official to do except attend formal events. Marrying her does not grant her spouse any official position or power in the Dominion.

Eborall is quite warm and pleasant with an average temperature in the mid seventies (Fahrenheit). The majority of the island is covered in rolling grasslands, save for one tall mountain in the north and the sandy beaches that surround its coastline. It is quite a tourist attraction as the beaches and plains have been described as some of the most beautiful anywhere in the world. There are a many of resorts, casinos, hotels, and other entertainment venues, making tourism one of its two biggest (and virtually only) industries. The other major industry is exporting rare jewels and elements that are found in the deep mines of the island.

The capital of the island is Tia'Dar Dieux, a metropolis that sits on the beautiful southern shore. However, unlike the Dominion, Eborall has many little towns scattered about the island where people can be much more secluded if they want it so. Tia'Dar Dieux is the main port of Eborall by both air and sea.


The Story
The RP will begin one week before the Princess' 25th Birthday. In honor of her quarter century mark, there is going to be a regal celebration (a blowout party) with a very tightly controlled invitee list. The whole island is going to be preparing for the big party, whether or not they're invited to the main gala. They'll be using it as an excuse to have their own festivities. Best way to meet her? Get into the party. Ordinary citizens won't be on the list obviously and even foreign dignitaries aren't really invited. What happens in the lead-up to the party is up to all of you. Your characters should probably all be figuring out ways to meet her. She will be around town doing things, but who knows if you can find her and approach her.

Here's one of the key pieces of information though: the Princess isn't actively seeking a husband (or boyfriend or anything really). Hundreds if not thousands of people a year come to the island to try their luck, so your suitors aren't going to be very different (just perhaps a bit more clever in getting to her). Even getting to her doesn't ensure anything, nor does all the other suitors in the RP failing. Most likely the RP will continue after the gala, but it is the best bet of getting to her.

Your Character
I don't require any specific character template (you don't have to provide anything really, as most of the information should come out in your description and posts in the story). However, if you wish, you can use the one I have below (with the Princess' information). The only real vital pieces of information are name and age (doubtful she'll be going with a senior citizen), though a picture or general description of his appearance is appreciated.

Now, about your actual character. The suitor does not have to be royalty, nobility, rich, or anything else. Now, she probably wouldn't like a street bum without anything going for him, but this isn't an attempt to marry royalty (though that is not saying such cannot happen). Her actual preferences in a man are mostly unknown, though I'm sure the average shmo would be willing to offer his two cents as to what he thinks they are.

I would be interested in offering a suitor for Princess Elisa. He would be royalty but not the stuck up kind, he's more of the down-to-earth fellow who respects people regardless of class. I'll post some info on him but for now I can say that's he one of my Empress' cousins.

He is often seen riding his horse or jogging in the early morning and he aspires to meet the Princess who, after seeing her picture, must probably have many people already want to meet her. He is also a down-to-earth prince in that he refuses to be a snob just because he was born in a higher station than everyone else.

OOC: When should we send our prospective suitors? I know he's a royal and all but my character is not your average stuck-up royal. He's a goodhearted person who cares for everyone regardless of class.

As for characters themselves, I'm not going to say that any "aren't fine." Just know that if everyone is "I like adventure, cars, guns, swords" just because that's what she is like, they're all going to seem pretty similar (i.e. boring).

A bum character, on the other hand, would be funny and interesting. Not ordinary or repetitive.

Pretty much everything is legal at any age.
Exceptions:
-Driving is 18 (+1 year of training)
-Firearms are 18 (though still highly restricted)
-Minors must suborn themselves to their parents' rules

Well, he is only the crowned head of the Royal Colony of Eborall... Laws such as this one would have to deal with other government forces (i.e. the Cabinet).

When he dies, another of his family will ascend. Then again, this is the first generation of Royalty and nobody said their had to be a second one :P

Actually, no. Adulthood is 18. As stated, though, the only differences between adulthood and being a minor is the ability to drive, the ability to own a gun (still highly restricted), the ability to be fully prosecuted, and freedom from parental control.

About responding to people's posts: obviously, if there is nothing to respond to, I cannot respond, and thus you'll have to move your character arc along by yourself for the moment.

@Tanara: I have to figure out if/how I will respond to yours. Not sure yet, so post again if you want.

@Oblivion: I'll send an e-mail response soon enough giving him permission to land.

I'll assume you meant "no idea what to post" or something along those lines. It's really up to you, it doesn't have to be something terribly interesting or different like Tan's snakes.

If you want some help, just ask. We could always toss out some random reasons for why he was there and then hearing about the news is not really that difficult (it's everywhere - everyone will be talking about it).

Random Ideas:
-He is SpecOps, so they could be on a joint training mission that ends sometime during the week (or even Sunday).
-He is an adventurer, so maybe he has heard of the tons upon tons of gems and rare metals found underneath the northern plains (and wants to mark a claim for himself).
-He likes cars, so maybe its just a car show or specific vehicle that has brought him to Eborall.

@Tan: Interesting opening story. I'm just slightly confused on whether you want me to respond somehow or if you're going to just continue with your path. I'm fine either way, I just want to make sure I don't neglect your posts if you want a response or vice versa.

Car show it is. I'll chose a car from the list of Executive Motors.

Well, let's lay it out.
For some reason, your character is in Eborall (you've decided it's for a car show). Somehow, he is going to have to hear about the Rose Gala. Then, considering your in this thread, your character supposedly wants to meet the Princess and something more. So, then the question is how to get in and meet her.

A) Why is he there?
B) How does he hear?
C) What does he think?
D) How does he get in?

Now you have to figure out answers those questions. Just be creative.

There are lots of ways to potentially get in. I'd rather not just give out answers (because either they're right and that's boring or they're wrong and I've intentionally led you down the wrong path), so ask others if you need some detail help.

My characters are pesky journalists, and they would like to ask permission to cover the event, who would be the right person/agency to approach?

Either you can contact "Universal News Enterprises," which handles all the news in the Dominion, or you can contact the Royal Service, which deals with all things Royal. (Or you could try the government itself)

DMG, could you specify where the car show is in Eborall?

Well, you made it up, so I'd say its's entirely up to you. But if you want a location from me, let's say in the suburb of Cielo Rico (a very rich and private suburb just eastward outside the gates of Tia'dar Dieux) at the Grand Piazza (big stone/marble open area) at its center.

OOC: I'm trying to have Pharamond occassionally see Elisa in the hotel before he attempts to talk to her and so forth. I hope that is alright.

Sounds fine, though you may want to expand it to more than just the hotel. Up to you really, but I don't know how much time I'm going to spend with her at her hotel suite. She has lots of homes around Eborall and she travels to them as she pleases... she may only be in the hotel once this week or maybe every day. I suppose there will be a couple more times she can be seen there, but its not like she'll be wandering through four times a day.

No problem at all. I have no problem with people RPing my NPCs, especially if its just for a moment because its not really important. The only times I would get upset is if you [read: anyone] RPed them unnaturally (i.e. doing something I wouldn't have them do, like letting Joe Schmo past security with a gun) or RPed characters that aren't really NPCs even if they aren't my main character in the thread (e.g. Prince Ali or the Governor of Eborall). Best to leave important characters up to me, anyone else, feel free to use.

No no no. It's not dead. Apologies to all. I've been away for the last two weeks on a boat without internet access. I should be back Thursday or Friday (if I have the energy then) and hopefully not every thread I was involved in will have died by then. I'm sorry I didn't inform you before I left, but I was cramped for time getting everything together so I didn't get around to posting...

I hope to get this running when I get back, because then I will be all settled down for the summer until it comes time for me to head off for college.

As usual, I disappeared for a month or two (went on a long trip, started work, etc.) and killed most of my threads. Summer slow down and all.

Unless I get a large number of the people involved attempting to persuade me otherwise, I'm going to probably retire this thread.

Oblivion2 I swore in another thread to take harsh reprisals agains the first perseon to show utterly no taste and call them Deagle (s). Every one in that thread has shown the common sense to know they can't get away with it.

Well, I was out all last night after work celebrating my friends birthday. Consequently, I got no sleep (because I had to wake up for work this morning). I'll probably fall asleep in a couple of minutes, but when I wake up I'll try to drum up enough will power to begin a post. I'll shoot for a post at the latest tonight, but then if I were you I wouldn't rely on what I say.

EDIT: I just checked on the IC thread and I wanted to make mention of one thing. @Greal: If you'll notice, I timestamp each section of my post. Yours is stamped for 1:50 PM on Sunday, while the limo leaving the hotel part (the part Tanara described in her post - I took the time she had outlined for the timestamp) is 1:00 AM Monday... about 11 hours apart.

Well, currently I'm having tapas at a high class restraunt, happily oblivious that we've tripped some ones trigger...Interaction is nice but not absolutely necessary... We'll finsih dinner soon and be back on the road back to our penthouse, if you want to spot us and pull us over then thats fine, if you just want to surveille thats fine too.

No doubt there will be a car following you as well as other assets in place to keep tabs on you.

Sure, they're both on the shore, only a couple miles from each other.
You can try other hotels, try to rent someone's home, live out of a car, on the beach, try to meet the rich and famous, etc.
