Following telegrams to Prycuse on this and the addition of district 91 to the map I am pleased to post for the attention of all members the opening of FRIC.

...................................................................................................

The Forestry Research Institute of Ceripel (FRIC) has been established within the first stage of the international city project in order to fill several mandates.

FRIC seeks to provide Prycuse with an internationally respected institution of tropical forestry research which it can use as a template for safe guarding the future of its eco-heritage.

FRIC is managed by experts from Sarrowquand’s own Dominion Forestry Research Initiative under joint jurisdiction of Sarrowquand’s 4th Speaker Sky Blue and Prycuse’s Department of Wildlife; the institute will be funded by Sarrowquand.

FRIC maintains several key aims:

1). Safeguard the local environment.

FRIC wishes to promote sustainable management of the Ceripel preserve and to minimise the impact of the international city.

FRIC personnel will patrol Ceripel preserve; Staff will initially be sourced from Sarrowquand but places will be opened later for forest wardens originating from Prycuse proper in order to pass on experience and techniques and from the international city to provide a source of employment.

FRIC will also work in conjunction with the Dominion’s aerospace intelligence net (which will provide satellite time) to monitor logging and poaching within Ceripel preserve.

Given the potential of the City to grow into the yellow zones FRIC will also seek to generate impact reports for The Department of Wildlife and to help to reduce damage to the environment during periods of expansion.

2). Conduct research.

The second priority of FRIC is to conduct research within the Ceripel preserve; to learn about Ceripel’s ecosystem and the bio-resources of the area. The aim of this research will be to not only enhance the knowledge of both the Federation and Dominion but to prove the commercial value of the sustainable use of forest land.

3). Promote environmentally friendly ecotourism.

The rich ecological heritage of the Ceripel preserve should be enjoyed and promoted to the people of Prycuse and their international guests. Tourism can be destructive if conducted without safeguards but it can also be used to raise awareness among the population of the symbiotic relationship between civilization and the environment that nurtures it.

FRIC will offer guided tours of the forest and create observation stations within the preserve. There will also be an outreach program connected to the International University and the international city sector university/colleges of Prycuse and Sarrowquand to educate students.

The blue zone space of district 91 will also be developed to provide picnicking areas, jogging and cycling routes and to promote public education around the FRIC research centre’s local grounds; To compliment this a natural heritage market will be opened in district 31 and will encourage all member states to establish market shops and stalls catering to eco-tourists and focusing on selling the traditional cultural crafts of their people and plant specimens of their lands.
....................................................................................................

Our next step is to negotiate rights over research findings with Prycuse and to open up spaces in the the natural crafts market.

Karats Envirmental Society and League fully supports this idea and would like to offer all the help it can give. We also agree upon the selling of each nations planets as this would make the city look nice with the mix of diffrent plants.

The Natural Crafts Market:

Region 31 will be host to an, international natural crafts market, located directly to the south of the Forestry Research Institute we hope that this will be a major draw for future eco-tourists and city residents alike.

The market place will consist of a central green area for cultural acts (plays, national oddities, etc). Two half-rings will surround the green. The north ring will be favour regional foods; the south ring will favour national and historic clothing with an empathises on sustainable and natural clothing styles. Outside of these initial rings will be four more quarter rings which will be open to plant and natural craft stalls. Between these four rings will be four booths.

There are currently 34 spaces available. Each space can hold several stalls and booth spaces can be developed into small businesses i.e. cafes or bars.
