Absentee Voting, Vote Inside! (Wide Open|MT)

Brutland and Norden
14-05-2008, 03:51
This is now CLOSED. Thank you for your interest, though. ;)

OOC: Yes, I am actually allowing you to vote and have a say in my elections. However, you will not vote using your government, but using my citizens. Simply put, you are going to RP Nord-Brutlandese voters living in your nation. They will be voting for the newly-created parliamentary seat for the Nord-Brutlandese abroad (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13313168&postcount=8). So, you RPers will get to vote for a deputy!

Mechanics:
This is open to all MT nations. It is advised that you visit the Election Hub (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=553517) for more information.
Voters in your nation. You are RPing Nord-Brutlandese voters, right? Just how many are you RPing?

I’d be relying on your postcount here in jolt. That means that the number of voters in your nation is your postcount as of the day you will post your results. As a bonus, there will be several modifiers/multipliers to it:

Diplomatic relations – of course if we have some sort of diplomatic relations and we have visa-issuing authorities, then expect to have more Nord-Brutlandese in your nation – more people/voters to RP!

So, if your nations have some sort of contact (previous RPs, etc.)/diplomatic relations (unilateral diplomatic relations, i.e. there is no reciprocal embassy exchange) with Brutland and Norden, you will multiply your postcount by 2. Nations qualifying for this multiplier are:
Achae-Ottonia, Ardchoille, Atleus, the Beatus, Bloumany, Caer Rialis, Chernobl, Cyruum, Exetonia, Free United States, Greal, Greater Gouda, Kampfers, Kloister, Lorkhan, Mathism, Midlonia, Minbaric Federal Zones, Napieria, Nilpnt, New Norden Island, Pablicosta, Pan-Arab Barronia, the Scandinvans, ShogunKhan, and Third Spanish States.

If your nation has full diplomatic relations (bilateral embassy exchange: we host your embassy and you host ours) you will multiply your postcount by 4. Nations qualifying for this multiplier are:
Abu Omar, Alfegos, Ambrose-Douglas, Candelaria And Marquez, Cookesland, De Vliggenplaat, the Genoshan Isles, Hamilay, Imbrinium, Kostemetsia, Kurona, Magdha, Mokastana, Northern Rangeria, Neo-Ixania, Nightfalcon, Omigodtheykilledkenny, the Philippiniada, Pinguinum, Ruccola, Snefaldia, Somniloquence, the Stone Temple, Tokyoni, Tsrill, United Kingdom2, Vanek Drury Brieres, Van Luxemburg, Visayan Peoples, ViZion, Wyneries, Yanitaria, Zinaire, and Zwangzug.

The South Pacific – of course if you are in Brutland and Norden’s home region, you are nearer, and expect more of my population within your borders. So if your nation is located in the South Pacific (the feeder region), multiply your postcount by 3, on top of other multipliers. TSPers also have the option to vote over at the regional forum and use your postcount there, ‘cause I’m putting this thread there also.

So for example:
Kylesburgh: (jolt postcount) = number of voters.
Imbrinium: (jolt postcount) X 4 = number of voters.
Tsrill: (postcount) X 4 [diplomatic relations multiplier] X 3 [TSP multiplier] = (postcount) X 12 = number of voters

Posting your results. There are five parties running their candidates. See them here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13585090&postcount=2). Basically what you need to fill up is this: (Copy and Paste the code)
Country Name:
Number of Voters (as computed):

Votes
Popular Party of Brutland and Norden: (# of votes)
Social Democratic Party of Brutland and Norden: (# of votes)
Green Party of Brutland and Norden: (# of votes)
Communist Party of Brutland and Norden: (# of votes)
Nationalist Party of Brutland and Norden: (# of votes)
Abstain/Did not vote: (# of votes)

You can add stuff of your own, such as RPs, news reports, etc, which will be very much appreciated. Also, please be realistic. A single party cannot win all or most of the votes from the voters in your nation. Otherwise the Royal Election Institute may smell fraud and conduct an investigation, and worse, invalidate your returns.

Deadline. You can post your returns until 4:00 pm UTC, May 30, 2008 (RL time), but we’ll assume that all of the returns arrived on May 31 (IC time).

You cannot edit your returns once I've acknowledged it already by including it in the results post below.

I will only RP nations mentioned above in #2, but did not submit their returns, excluding those that CTE’d. Afterwards I will tally the votes and announce the winner – the deputy for the Nord-Brutlandese abroad.

PS. And oh yeah. No puppetwanking, please.
Brutland and Norden
14-05-2008, 03:51
OOC: These are the final results. The entry under "Nazioni Ontra"/Other Nations include everyone else I said I will RP (see second to the last paragraph in above post) but I added them such that they will not change the percentages each party gained. (In short, with or without that entry, the vote percentages will still be the same - so it's still your decision, only that I added votes which did not affect the outcome whatsoever. ;)

And also, thank you to everyone that voted. Hopefully you will also participate in the next election (most probably four years later, haha.))

Nord-Brutlandese in Other Countries Start to Vote
May 14, 2008
by Rina Stangello

KINGSVILLE – Nord-Brutlandese citizens living or staying abroad can now officially cast their ballots, in accordance to with the Absentee Voters Act of 2006. The absentee voters will also elect, for the first time, a special MP to the General Court to represent the Nord-Brutlandese abroad. Additionally, Nordeners living abroad will also cast their votes for provincial legislators and grant councilors.

Voting
Citizens of Brutland and Norden can cast their ballots by courier, by personal appearance at the nearest embassy, or online. A registered Nord-Brutlandese voter can request for a paper ballot from the nearest Royal Nord-Brutlandese Embassy, which will then mail it to the voter. The ballot can be marked and mailed back to the Embassy starting today. Alternatively, the entire process of voting can be done inside the embassy, which is technically a voting precinct.

Nord-Brutlandese voters in some jurisdictions can vote online at the embassy website. These jurisdictions include Cookesland (http://www.brutlandandnorden.csl) and Van Luxemburg (http://www.embasciatornb.vl). Voters in other jurisdictions (even those without Nord-Brutlandese representation) can vote at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (http://www.fdae.gob.nem), but the process is more tedious and the verification process more stringent and difficult.

Results
By law, the votes should be tallied in the embassy in the presence of the ambassador or the charge d’affaires. The results should then be sent to the Royal Election Institute in Kingsville for integration with the domestic results.

“We are ready”
Officials are confident that the absentee elections will go ahead smoothly in Brutland and Norden’s 40 overseas missions and on the Internet. “We will ensure that the voices of our countrymen living here will be heard,” said Marcello Bracciolini, the Royal Nord-Brutlandese Ambassador to Tsrill.

“Our networks will be constantly motored to ensure their security, safety, and the authenticity of the results,” said deputy Foreign Minister for Citizen Services Lamberto Pulchella.

First Vote
The first recorded vote for this year’s elections was cast from the United States of Cookesland, reported the deputy ambassador for citizen services in Cookesland, Derrico Dragonetti. The vote was cast online at the embassy website.

Tolvan
14-05-2008, 04:42
Though Tolvan had no formal relations with Brutland and Norden there were 787 Nord-Brutlandese citizens recognized as legal residents of the Commonwealth. Most came to serve as crewman for the Commonwealth's massive merchant marine or in search of prosperity in Tolvan's booming economy.

It didn't take long for word of the new Parliamentary seat to spread throught the Nord-Brutlandese community and for most of the expats to go online to cast their ballots.

The following is the break down of votes cast by Nord-Brutlandese residents of Tolvan:

Popular Party of Brutland and Norden - 376 (47.78%)
Social Democratic Party of Brutland and Norden - 204 (25.92%)
Green Party of Brutland and Norden - 62 (7.88%)
Communist Party of Brutland and Norden - 5 (0.64%)
Nationalist Party of Brutland and Norden - 3 (0.38%)
Abstain/Did not vote - 37 (17.41%)

Given that many of the Brutland and Norden citizens in Mokastana have been influenced by local cultures the votes have been also effected. Many left wing thinkers will often visit Mokastana to see a balanced mix of capitalism and socialism, read up on the theories and understand how it works. Learn how the capitalist concepts such as free trade have survived the working class desire for a better life. With a strong political culture and peer pressure to vote in their homeland it was amazing that some at all did not vote at all.

Nord-Brutlandese citizens in Van Luxemburg vote

LUXEMBOURG - For the first time, Nord-Brutlandese abroad can now vote in their own homeland elections: The population abroad in Van Luxemburg went to vote today, while they are able to vote by internet until May 30th.

Van Luxemburg was one of the nations in which it was possible to vote online via the website of the Nord-Brutlandese embassy in Luxembourg. Next to this, it is possible to vote at home (by mail, essentially), or by paying a visit to the embassy.

The (most recent) results of the Van Luxemburger election show a very normal pattern, even though a low number of votes for the Green Party may be blamed on the Nord-Brutlandese that have been infected by the Grand Duchy's petrolhead society.

You're listening to statewide public radio. Who needs nationalism when you can have the liberal media?

"Nord-Brutlandese citizens worldwide are casting their ballots for a special parliamentary seat. Although the winner of this election will not be able to vote in the parliament, he or she will be able to sit on committees. Almost three thousand Nord-Brutlandese residing in Zwangzug have voted. We interviewed a handful of voters who were willing to share their thoughts on the elections."

A middle-aged man speaks in Nord-Brutlandese: a translator overlaps several seconds in. "There are a lot of parties with a lot of strong positions, I guess I'm a bit worried they'll split the vote!" He laughs merrily.

"I wanted to vote for the Green Party, but I don't think they'll have enough support," says a younger woman with a melodic accent. "So I voted for the Partide Democraziellía Scaglia."

"My wife voted for the Communist Party because she believes in republicanism," gripes an older man, "but she's been away from home too long, I think. When you oppose the monarchy, you're opposing a symbol of our country and our people."

"The Popular Party, certainly. The others are too polarizing: these are moderates, they are able to get along, govern...get things done, they've been doing very well so far."

"I like the Social Democrats' positions, but they can't even agree on a leader! How do they expect to manage the country? I voted for the Greens."

"I didn't vote. I live in Zwangzug, I'm not living by the laws of the Nord-Brutlandese Parliament-I don't deserve a say in making them. Let the people govern themselves."

Back to the studio. "The results will be announced on May 31. In news from Albrecht...aw, you don't care, do you?"

Nord-Brutlandese Go To The Polls

SAYENNA - With the December creation of a seat in the Parliament of Brutland and Norden for expatriates of that nation, the time has arrived for Nord-Brutlandese around the world to cast their votes. Hamilay has a small but active Nord-Brutlandese community, with the bulk of citizens eligible to vote in Sayenna, 18,000 strong. Despite moderate showers, over a thousand people braved the rain today to queue outside the embassy of the United Kingdom for voting. Similar numbers are expected for the rest of the week, most of the other ballots being sent by courier.

The centre-right Popular Party (Partide Populoddía) has been slated to gain much of the Hamilayan community's support, with exit polls showing the PP with approximately 45% of the vote. However, the Social Democratic Party (Partide Democraziellía Scaglia) follows close on their heels. In a surprise result, the Nationalist Party (Partide Nazioneddíttúa) has gained nearly 15% support, which has unnerved many observers. The Nationalists are considered to be a far-right organisation, and are allegedly on the Federal Security Directorate's so-called 'Fascism Watch List' monitoring far-right political extremism.

TRNM Morning News - English
First Returns Come In
“The Royal Election Institute confirmed today that the first results in this election’s absentee voting. The Institute would not release the partial, official results, but did say that the count presently included votes from ten jurisdictions.”

“Turnout was quite high in the returns we received,” an assistant director of the Institute said. “We’ve got a few surprises, too.”

“The assistant director would not elaborate on the details, but TRNM News had tracked down the jurisdictions which had submitted their returns. Among them were the countries of Mokastana, Yanitaria, ViZion, Van Luxemburg, Zwangzug, and Hamilay. Also posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Website are the countries from which votes had been tallied. Among them are Tolvan, Bergelland, Greal, and Itinerate Tree Dweller. Citizens in jurisdictions without Nord-Brutlandese representation can vote on the website.”

“Turnout was robust,” said Royal Nord-Brutlandese Ambassador to ViZion Bruno dB. Canellotti via streaming. “In fact, Pannondrio-like* turnout.”

“Royal Nord-Brutlandese Ambassador to Yanitaria Jeric Arbuckle praised the Nord-Brutlandese in the country for exercising their right and duty to vote. Mr. Arbuckle also said that the turnout in Yanitaria was high. Both ambassadors declined to comment on the result.”

“The Nord-Brutlandese election also made news in other countries.” Footage from other news sources was shown. “In Sayenna, Hamilay, the weather did not seem to deter turnout from the expatriate community there. Deputy Ambassador for Citizen Services Marinella Quigentole said that the voting is running smoothly in the embassy and they expect a high turnout.”

“News sources in other countries also hinted about the possible results in the expatriate communities in their nations. Statewide public radio in Zwangzug interviewed voters about their votes. RTVL in Van Luxemburg said that the ‘result show a very normal pattern’ but implied that the Green Party fared poorly among the Nord-Brutlandese in the nation.”

“The Royal Election Institute is expecting more returns to be submitted.”

*The Brute grant of Pannondrio maintains the distinction of high turnouts in every Nord-Brutlandese election and referendum, primarily due to their tradition of direct democracy dating centuries back. Pannondrian turnout is usually >98%, and if it dips below 98% it is usually a harbinger of low overall turnout in Brutland and Norden.

Transcript from Radiotelevisione Ruccoliana (RTV) Evening News:

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/6735/rtvts0.jpg

Newscaster: Today was a special day for the Nord-Brutlandese community in Ruccola. For the first time in history, Nord-Brutlandese citizens abroad could participate in legislative elections, thanks to a newly-drafted law that creates an additional parliamentary seat to represent Nord-Brutlandese expatriates. Sarah Cheung has the story.

Reporter Cheung: The day began with a flag-raising ceremony at the Embassy of Brutland and Norden in the centre of Arugula’s diplomatic quarter. After a brief speech by the Nord-Brutlandese ambassador to Ruccola, Uldarico Iannuccelli, supporters of three of the five parties contesting the election, the Popular Party, Social Democratic Party and Green Party, held political rallies across the street around Independence Monument. Municipal authorities temporarily closed the intersection of Independence and Republic Avenues to allow the rallies to take place, as voters chanted party slogans and held up campaign banners. Once the polling booths opened at ten o’clock, long lines formed outside the Nord-Brutlandese embassy, and voters cast their ballots with excitement and fervour. The crowd had dispersed by noon, and after the votes were tallied, I got the chance to speak to the ambassador about the events of the day. Good evening, Ambassador Iannuccelli.

Ambassador Iannuccelli: Good evening.

Reporter Cheung: What were your thoughts about the election process today?

Ambassador Iannuccelli: It went very smoothly, just as planned. There’s not much I can tell you, as I’m sworn to secrecy, but the turnout was incredibly high. More than ninety-eight percent of registered voters in Ruccola came out to vote.

Reporter Cheung: Wow! That’s quite amazing! What were your expectations beforehand?

Ambassador Iannuccelli: To be honest, I didn’t quite know what to expect, as we’re quite a new community in this country, and this was the first ever election extended to overseas Nord-Brutlandese. I was pleasantly surprised by how politically active my compatriots are here, despite the small size of the resident population.

Reporter Cheung: Small, yes, but it’s the fastest-growing expatriate community in Ruccola, isn’t it?

Ambassador Iannuccelli: Mmmhmm. (Nods)

Reporter Cheung: May I ask you a more personal question, Ambassador Iannuccelli?

Ambassador Iannuccelli: Sure.

Reporter Cheung: How did you vote?

Ambassador Iannuccelli: (Laughs) That’s a secret. (Grins)

Reporter Cheung: (Smiles) Well, I’m afraid our time is up. Thank you for having us, ambassador.

Ambassador Iannuccelli: My pleasure.

Reporter Cheung: The results will be released after the election on May 31. Until then, we won’t know how the Nord-Brutlandese of Ruccola voted, and whether they were part of a wider trend encompassing all Nord-Brutlandese abroad or Brutland and Norden itself.

Mere days after the Candelariasian elections, over seven-hundred Nord-Brutlandese flocked to Albrecht yesterday to cast their votes in their own national contest – many of whom for the first time.

For plenty of those who had made the trip to the South Pacific Kingdom’s Irish Street embassy this was primarily an issue of age. Jenny Sassanecci, a nineteen year-old fine arts student and waitress from Le Thipp Judek nr Clotaire, told the Herald that she had last visited the country of her parents’ birth eleven years ago. “We don’t really have much to do with the Old Country much,” she admitted, “but when all’s said and done we’re Nord-Brutlandese same as anyone else back home… it is still ‘back home’, even though I’ve spent all my life in Candelaria. It’s important that our voices are heard, but to be honest I’m not really sure of all the issues at play. I’m probably just going to vote the same way as my dad.”

Many others took the responsibility with rather more care. Guiseppe di Sombreto, a sixty-one year-old restaurateur who has lived in Melin for the past thirty years, hails originally from the small Asernia town of Tinnurra. “I haven’t had the opportunity to vote for so many years,” he told the Herald, “so this is a tremendous, patriotic opportunity for me… for all Nord-Brutlandese in C&M, to be honest. I haven’t always been in love with my homeland, but you can’t ever forget who you really are.”

di Sombreto settled on Marquez with his Edward City-born partner in the Seventies. “The Kingdom’s a different country now, I accept that. Gloria would certainly be a lot more accepted. We went on holiday back home only lasted year, and you can see that while it’s still the same old Normark inside a lot has changed, and for the better. For all that, and call me a sad old lefty if you must, but I’m still going to be supporting the Social Democrats.”

Supporters of the country’s major opposition party were the most vocal when we spoke to them, though most admitted their likelihood of victory was minute. One man, who did not wished to be named and like around forty percent of his community lives in Melin, explained that many of his friends would be treating the Partide Democraziellía Scaglia almost as a protest vote, believing that the Kingdom has become dangerously close to being a one-party state. He himself was more enthusiastic over the party’s chances. “People go on about needing strong leadership, but ultimately I don’t really care who ends up Prime Minister as long as their policies are right. The PDS are exactly what we need right now… and, more to the point, it would really get up Brutland’s collective nose.”

For his wife and, doubtless, for many other Nord-Brutlandese in C&M, domestic Candelariasian politics cast a shadow over the poll. “I’m a regretful half-hour voter,” she told the Herald, in reference to the many thousands of Candelariasians who opted to cast their ballots only in the final half-hour of the twelfth’s official polling after the news of the horrific terror attacks in the capital had filtered through. “I always intended to vote for our Soc Dems, or your Soc Dems, you know what I mean, if I chose to vote at all, but once I’d heard about the attacks I rushed right out to vote for the Modern Liberals. I’m not really disappointed they actually won; they’re nowhere near as right-wing as everyone makes out and I think President Morton will do a much better job at keeping this country safe than any of the other candidates, but when it comes to the Kingdom my allegiance always has to be with the left.”

For many of those assembled at O’Neil and Farreira’s opposite the embassy, the centre of attention over lunch was Gina Carozza, the new Modern Liberal MP. Despite declining to nail her colours to the mast, the Viledenno-born, Clotaire-raised Carozza was happy to enthuse over Ambassador Sigonella’s efforts to get as many Nord-Brutlandese in Albrecht yesterday as possible. “It’s a difficult city to be in at the moment, but the embassy must be delighted with the turnout here today,” she explained. Buses, trains and ferries had been laid on to encourage potential voters in the large Melin and Clotaire communities to travel to the capital yesterday, despite the horrors of the previous week. Elderly voters had also been given help in travelling into the city.

“There’s a real feeling of defiance among these people here, that reflects Albrecht as a whole, I think. And a real community atmosphere too. There are young dual passport-holders here who’ve barely been back home and struggle with the language, there’s people from the big communities who pretty much live in Little Norden, and there’s pensioners who came to the Candelarias to find work after the Civil War, and who haven’t seen one of their countrymen for decades, in some cases. And obviously there’s plenty of disagreement about who to vote for. But it’s been great being here with these people today, I think about a third of all the registered Nord-Brutlandese in C&M have turned up, one way or another, which is just wonderful, particularly at a time like this.”

The embassy has considered cancelling the day, following the 12/5 attacks, but Carozza believed they made the right decision. “I know some people have opted to stay at home, but I’m not sure any self-respecting terrorist is going to be interested in blowing up a couple of hundred Nordlanders… Given the availability of the internet here, and the problems we saw with online voting last week, this really was the only way that hundreds of voters could have made their voices heard, so I’m very pleased they went ahead with it.”

The bubbly blonde certainly turned a few heads herself. Enrico Tibbone, who is currently employed as a barman in Hanlon, admitted he hadn’t heard of Carozza before but claimed his delight that ‘one of our girls’ had made the executive chamber overseas. “I’m only passing through and don’t know much about politics here,” the Popular Party supporter admitted, “but it’s nice to see her successful, she seems a nice girl. The embassy here and Ambassador Sigonella deserve the most praise, though. I don’t think I would have been able to vote if they hadn’t arranged to get us all down here.”

Analysts suggest that the opposition PDS may just pip the PP for the vote in C&M, but the Popular Party are still in line to take the seat for Nord-Brutlandese expatriates.

With no Candelariasian community of note in the South Pacific island kingdom, there was no similar arrangement in Kingsville earlier this month. Official figures released yesterday show that four completed ballots for the Candelariasians Overseas Constituency were handed in at the C&M embassy in the Nord-Brutlandese capital.

*oddly, three chimes are heard in the background, as the reporter begins her report*

As expected, The Popular Party takes the most votes, at 35%. The Social democrats surprised most observers, capturing 34%. The Greens take 10%, Communist Party capture 4%, and the Nationalist party take 3% of all the votes. 14% of all B&N citizens chose to not take part in this vote.

SD votes were expected to be lower percentage as the demographic of B&N citizens residing in Mavenu indicated that they were leaning towards PP. Weather or not that the 14% would have contained PP supporters remains, for obvious reasons, uncertain.

Nord-Brutlandese Expatriates Hit the Polls

http://images.usatoday.com/news/_photos/2006/11/07/colo.jpg

With the passage of the Absentee Voters Act of 2006, Nord-Brutlandese expatriates can now vote in their homeland’s elections more easily than ever.

Coricas, F.D.C. – Capitoline Boulevard was lined with voters heading to the United Kingdom’s Embassy in Coricas, many in the city choosing to vote the traditional way rather than the very easily accessible embassy website ( http://www.brutlandandnorden.csl). However the embassy page, offered in both Nord-Brutlandese and Cookeslandic English, has still seen a fair amount of voting turnout from the rest of the community living outside of the capital.

2008 will certainly be remembered as the year of three elections in years to come, with the ’08 Presidential Election, the Antarctic Oasis Delegate Election and now for Nord-Brutlandese citizens, their home elections for the new overseas seat all in the same year. With the confusion of the many elections some have called for Cookesland to change it’s laws concerning Absentee Balloting. “As we can clearly see by Nord-Brutlandese elections effectively taking place all over the world, why can’t we change the outdated laws preventing us from internet voting or sending votes via the mail?” asks Senator Isabella Wu (V-Saria Island).

The polls will officially close at Eight o’clock tomorrow evening, when they will be tallied and sent to Royal Election Institute in Kingsville. So far CBC places the Popular Party with a huge lead over the Green Party which is closely followed by the Social Democrats.

Popular Party Wins Seat for the Nord-Brutlandese Abroad
June 01, 2008
by Rina Stangello
KINSVILLE - the Royal Election Institute certified Prime Minister Mariana Cortanella's Popular Party to be the winner for the seat of the Nord-Brutlandese abroad. The PP candidate for the position, Liliana Guarino, won over candidates Armando Ramunni (Social Democratic Party), Ferrandina Urso (Green Party), Guglielmo Elci (Communist Party), and Giovanni Gismondi (Nationalist Party).

Ms. Guarino is a Brutlander expatriate currently residing in Coricas, the United States of Cookesland. She will take her seat when the General Court convenes on June 30, 2008. She is not required to be physically present in the General Court; the lower house of Parliament can and will provide her with a high-speed Internet connection straight to the General Court so she can partake in debates and vote in committees (but not in the floor) without leaving Cookesland.

"I am very honored that the expatriate community chose me to represent their interests back in our homeland," Ms. Guarino said in a video posted in her website, "and I will do exactly just that."

Prime Minister Marianna Cortanella of the Popular Party also sent a congratulatory video to Ms. Guarino, which was also available from her website.

Absentee Voting
The absentee voting proceeded quite smoothly over the past two weeks in embassies and on the internet. 22 jurisdictions sent in impressive results.

In the Federal Republic of Hamilay (http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13696304&postcount=20), voters braved rain in order to cast their votes at the embassy in Sayenna. The expatriate community in Hamilay boasted a 92.41% turnout.

Supporters of three of the largest parties in Brutland and Norden held rallies at Arugula, the capital of the Republic of Ruccola (http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13700978&postcount=23). They courted voters lining up at the Royal Nord-Brutlandese Embassy. Nord-Brutlandese in Ruccola had a Pannondrio-like turnout at 98.04%.

The spate of election day bombings in the Republic of Candelaria And Marquez (http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13705695&postcount=27) did not deter the Nord-Brutlandese from voting in the absentee elections. Ambassador Nilo Sigonella and his staff provided transportation for voters living in other cities in the country, particularly in the communities of Clotaire and Melin. A newly-elected member of the House of Representatives of Candelaria And Marquez, Gina Carozza of the Modern Liberal Party, also came to the voting. Ms. Carozza was born in Dennville.

Voters formed a line along Capitoline Boulevard in the capital of the United States of Cookesland (http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13718040&postcount=32), Coricas. Even though the expatriates in Cookeland are among the lucky few to have a dedicated webpage for voting, many still preferred to cast their ballots personally. Voters in Cookesland had the second-highest turnout in any foreign jurisdiction, at 99.22%. Most of the voters here showed up to support candidate Liliana Guarino of the Popular Party, who is an officer in the Brutland and Norden - Cookesland Friendship Society. Indeed, it is in Cookesland where the Popular Party achieved its highest share of the vote, at almost 72%.

Low Turnout Plagues Other Areas
Despite the stellar turnout in some countries, other jurisdictions suffered from poor turnout. In some, only the embassy staffers cast their vote.

In the Thrill of Tsrill (http://z1.invisionfree.com/forums/theSPacific/index.php?showtopic=8168&view=findpost&p=2693020), the turnout was at a low 31% in one of Brutland and Norden's largest expatriate communities. "What can we do if people did not want to vote? We did everything: placed ads in newspapers and radio and TV, arranged for transport for the voters, informed them about the election, did the registration for them... but only a small proportion turned out to vote," said Royal Nord-Brutlandese Ambassador to Tsrill Marcello Bracciolini, shrugging his shoulders. "The individual parties even had their get-out-to-vote programs!"

Nevertheless, votes from Tsrill are the second most numerous (after ViZion) in the 22 jurisdictions that were able to cast their votes. Also, Tsrill had the biggest number of registered Nord-Brutlandese voters, with more than 118,000 registered to vote, thanks to the embassy's tireless efforts at registration. The problem is that only a few bothered to vote.

Other jurisdictions fared worse: not only that few bothered to vote, but few bothered to even register. In the Republic of Zinaire, where there are approximately 2,500 eligible Nord-Brutlandese voters, only a thousand registered and less then a hundred cast their votes. In the Neo-Prussian Dictatorship of Kampfers, out of the 10,000 estimated Nord-Brutlandese voters in the country, only a few hundred registered, and the only votes that came from there are the votes cast by Ambassador Cristina di Castanelli and her staff.

It was worst in the Federal Republic of Omigodtheykilledkenny, where nobody registered and the embassy staff weren't old enough to even vote (http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13119505&postcount=233)!

All in all, the turnout for registered absentee voters was at 66.64%, but the Royal Election Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimates that the turnout for all eligible voters is much much lower then that. But they take hope in the result. "It just shows that this project is feasible," said Lamberto Pulchella, deputy Foreign Minister for Citizen Services. "It can be done."

Results
The results of the absentee voting was somewhat expected, according to political scientist Dr. Lorena Contini of the Royal University of Brutland and Norden at Kingsville. "The Popular Party was ahead of others in establishing a network for our expatriates. They had this organization, the Popular Party Abroad, even before absentee voting was introduced. So we can say that the many of the expatriates are PP-leaning."

Indeed, the PP won in 13 of the 22 jurisdictions. The PDS won five and the Greens three.

Demographics also played a part in the results. Many of the expatriates in Candelaria and Marquez are from Norden, a marginal province, which can explain why the the vote is almost tied between the PP and the PDS.

The recent dispute over the Social Democrat leadership may had also turned people away from the PDS., contributing to the PP's impressive win. The expats voted 2-to-1 for the PP against its main rival the PDS.

Minor parties also got a greater than normal share of votes. The Green Party won more than 10% of the vote even with the high abstention rate, thanks to the votes from the three jurisdictions voting from them and to the votes from Greal, Imbrinium, Kostemetsia, Ruccola, Tsrill, and ViZion, where they outpolled even the Social Democrats. The Communists won a large share of the vote in Kostemetsia and Yanitaria, while the Nationalists showed their strength in Greal, where they got one-fourth of the vote.
