Squatter's Rights

Crimean Republic
09-05-2008, 01:26
The rights of squatters to possess lands on the eastern fringe of the city of Sevastopol are hereby revoked, in preparation for the creation of a new commercial airport in that area. The airport will be the largest in the Black Sea region, and will be approximately ten miles square, and will be able to handle a variety of commercial, private and industrial air traffic. It will include within its grounds five separate terminals and three principal runways. The government will take all measures necessary to assure that the acquisition of the land and the construction of the airport remains on schedule. The airport is expected to begin construction in March of 2009 and be completed in December of 2010.

Protests in the eastern shanty town of Vladimir began today, in response to government's recent notice to the squatters that they would be forced off the grounds, in order to build a new airport to help drive the push to modernize the nation's economy.

"This is my land, it has been in my possesion now for the past twelve years, and I have build every single inch of this house." Yelled one soon to be homeless resident.

Others from shanties across the city joined the protestors, who attempted to march on the city proper, only to be corralled by the local police, dressed in riot gear, before they could leave the area. More protests and demonstrations are expected to commence tomorrow, as many of the commuters are unable to leave the area.

The government has refused to comment on this matter.

The Republic of Ruccola wishes to propose an alternative solution. Our government is willing to grant the Crimean Republic an interest-free loan to construct an offshore airport on reclaimed land off the coast of Sevastopol. Such a location would allow for round-the-clock operations and would solve the land acquisition issues the project now faces. More importantly, future urban development will not be a threat to the airport's expansion due to its location on the Black Sea. We would be glad to provide engineers, architects and equipment for the project if your government so pleases.

The Crimean Republic would rather not have to accept your offer of military police within our nation. THe nation has always been subject to treacherous invasions and attacks upon her soverignity, therefore, do not hold your breath for your offers to be approved of, unless the situation gets much worse.

would your nation be against the prospect of "giving them jobs"?
By way of moving them off in trucks to some place where they could
dig / fill in holes and lay roads ect...

The protests in Vladimir transformed into riots today as the first of the bulldozers came to begin clearing the way for the new airport. The demolition was forced to a hault by the protestors, however, as they began to throw rocks and pieces of concrete at the oncoming drivers.

Regrettably, the Sevastopol police were forced to use force against the rabble, billy-clubbing and tear-gassing the group into submission. They then carted off most of the belligerents to jail, under charges of attempted murder, disturbing the peace, vandalism, and trespassing on government property.

Our company has heard about the construction of Sevastopol's new airport, and wishes to offer its expertise in airport services to the Crimean Republic. We would like to incorporate a new company, Sevastopol Aviation Services Group (SASG), which will consist of the following divisions:

Sevastopol Air Terminal Services (SATS) - Charged with check-in and boarding services, baggage handling, ticketing and passenger information services, auxiliary services (e.g. wheelchairs and electric carts), and loading and unloading services
Sevastopol Air Catering Services (SACS) - A flight kitchen charged with the creation and delivery of high-quality inflight meals for flights departing Sevastopol International Airport
Sevastopol Air Freight Services (SAFS) - The cargo and mail handling arm of the company, based at the future air cargo terminal
Sevastopol Aircraft Engineering Corporation (SAECO) - The aircraft maintenance division, charged with the repair, cleaning and retrofit of aircraft based at Sevastopol

Air Ruccola is also highly interested in commencing operations to Sevastopol International Airport once construction is complete and the airport is formally opened. We look forward to your response, and thank you for your time and kind attention to this matter.

Yours faithfully,
