Fraedon
05-05-2008, 10:58
Skyhaven International Airport, Lamoni.
6:05 AM
"Ah, Sir? You can't come in here. This hanger's the property of the Government of Fraedon, and I must ask for-"
The stranger paused, then let out a chuckle.
"Of course you'd say that. Of course."
He pulled an ID from his pocket, and in a fluid motion raised it and quickly put it away. The soldier managed to catch a glimpse of the words "Level 10" before the ID disappeared back into his pocket. He stiffened visably.
"Smart boy. I assume you know what this means?"
"Y-y-yes sir!"
"Good. In ten minutes a jet will arrive, by 06:30 it will be gone. You and your men will be on it. You may not ask questions; all that I am entitled to tell you is that this hanger is being seized to assist with a government project. You may not ask the name of the project. I was never here."
With that, the man turned on his heels and disappeared back into the morning gloom.
Government House, Fraedon.
6:35 AM
Captain Medion pushed open the doors of the President's Office and strode in. Normally the room would have humbled him, at least made him a little nervy, but today he didn't have time to appreciate his surroundings.
"Sir, I must protest! If news of this gets out-"
"News of what, Captain?"
The President's tone was icy.
"You know what I am talking about, sir. Project S."
The President laughed
"That old fable? My, oh my."
His eyes suddenly flashed, and the joking look disappeared hastily from his eyes, which flashed, menacingly.
"It does not exist. I would not dream of establishing a highly classified research project in the homeland of an ally, especially without telling them, am I clear?"
"But sir!-"
"No, Captain, that is all. I would advise you to steer clear of 'gossip' in the future. There is no Project S."
The Captain understood. He was lucky to make it to the door, and he knew it.
The doors closed behind him. The President turned back to his desk, and pressing a concealed button on one of the draws spoke into his coffee mug:
"Major? Continue the research. And make sure it stays silent..."
