Bulgislavian Coup
Bulgislavia

The General Secretary Alia Prekov was sitting in his office in the Hall of the Party in central Terevesti.
It was a cold crisp morning. A couple of days ago a grand parade took place on Provoçe square below to celebrate May Day and the new reformist leadership was up on the balcony looking over the parade. Only a small handfull of hardliners remained in the party. but even they were under surveilance by the Cigouriva (The secret police)
The rest were either imprisoned, banned from the party or placed under house arrest. Alia thought he had the country and government under his control but the cult Provoçe had built up in his 46 year reign was not hard to erase and many party members still held some loyalties. Though the majority of people welcomed the new relaxation of laws some people missed the order and discipline.
Elements of the Cigouriva, Military and party still thought the reforms had gone too far. they thought Alia would stop at economic reforms but when he started to allow for independent news papers and new independent radio and TV channels and stations the hardliners saw this as the threat to the Bugislavian Workers Party rule.
.................................................................................................... ...
General Ion Milencu was a 58 yearold military career man. He was also a Party member though not a powerful one. He did however have respect from his soldiers and the military.
He was disgusted with the new reforms Alia was pushing through and feared the regime would collapse.
In a military base on the outskirts of Terevesti
There was a secret meeting going on Between some of the remaining Hardliners in the Party, Military and Cigouriva. General Ion Milencu called the secret meeting.
"We must have a return to true Party Rule! If Alia is allowed to rule any long this government will not survive past this decade! He has to go!" yelled out one Hardline Party member
"I understand the concerns. I share all of them. I dont want to see our economy sold off to foriegners. I already hate this new emerging culture imported straight from the west! Its disgusting which Is why I called this meeting in the first place"
"We all know what this is about Milencu! You want to topple Alia in a coup, yes?" said one of the Cigouriva hardliners
"Correct. The general mood of the governent and ruling structures of the country feel nostalgia for the Provoçe era. we all want a return to stability, order and discipline not this mad zoo Alia has created. Its the people I'm worried about" said Milencu
"Yes Alia is popular with the people they wouldnt stand to see "Their Man" toppled by us"
One of the party members stood to his feet
"Why dont we just assasinate him!"
"What are you mad! That would be too obvious! and it would be wreckless and senseless! The soldiers are loyal to me It would be no problem to order tanks to take Terevesti and take down Alia that way but it would be the fallout" said Milencu
"Put him under house arrest, tell the people he has to stand down for health reasons, leave the Fall out to the Media. As long as the military is with us we will have full power and within a decade people will forget about this period"
"Ok the coup will take place this week sometime. By the end of this week we WILL have this country back on the correct path. In the meantime I will travel abroad to find support and say its just for "Holiday" By Wednesday we should have the plans for the takeover"
.................................................................................................... ....

Party meber Lomeçau who was a 69 yearold hardliner who was currently in house arrest in Teresvesti. Military soldiers stood guard all around his modest house
(His villa had been confiscated in accordance with Alia's wishes to eliminate corruption in the party)
Lomençau then recieved a phone call
"Hello?" said Lomençau
"Comrade Lomençau, the coup is underway it will begin sometime this week"
"Are you fucken mad! dont talk on this line Cigouriva is listening in!" panicked Lomençau
"Cigouriva is on ourside, you dont need to worry we got them to end the tap for this phone call"
"My trial begins tomorrow you want me to just act normal what are is Comrade General Milencu's orders?"
"Refuse to recognise Alia's regime and his courtroom and deny all the charges as false, by the end of this week you will have your position back in the party. By the end of this week Bulgislavia will return to its correct path" said the mysterious voice on the other line then the phone hung up
.................................................................................................... ..
In Terevesti there was a small demonstration of about 60 people chanting
"Why is my life not improving!" and "Alia, listen to the people!"
this was becuase despite the country's growing economy becuase of the economic reforms. Inflation was beginning to kick in, prices were rising and unemployment was also slowly creeping up. The majority of people were content.
The police stood along the street keeping a close eye on the small demonstration making its way to Provoçe square.
Large numbers of people together always made the regime nervous even the reformers.
.................................................................................................... ....
"Alia cant you see what this experimentation period has done! the people are starting to speak out against us! is this what to wanted! to see our party ripped to shreds!" yelled General Milencu to Alia
"The people have a right to be out on the streets. For the first time ever the Bulgislavian people can freely communicate in the open with the party"
"Do you really want to see the government toppled! you want to see a revolution like the one in Romania in 1989!? cause that is what you are forcing Bulgislavia to do!"
"The poeple trust and love the party now that there is more freedom. No party member wants to see the end of Party rule! this system will not fall. It had to change otherwise it would of collapsed! Finally I have everything moving"
"Just think about your actions properly, Comrade General Secretary. I will not see this government toppled!..... Alia, I'm leaving the country for a while I dont want to be in your presence for a while!" Said Milencu storming out of Alia's office.

The problem is they are Reformers who want some light brand of communism with a mixed economy and more freedom which could eventually lead to the destruction of our system like it did in Hungary and the USSR before. We want to replace these dangerous reformers with a more stable system of communism much like Former Comrade President Provoçe's style)

OK I will prepare to arrive in Kashingrad in three days time.
Thank you once again. We may not need something so drastic as an airstrike but on the day of the coup you could fly and circle around the Hall of the Party wich would stop Alia from fleeing by helicopter. We plan to have the coup happen when Alia is inside the Hall of the Paty.
The secret underground tunnels can be easiy blocked by soldiers so he will basically be stuck inside. Killing him would be highly unpopular so we just wish to depose him and then force him to resign then we will decide what to do from there.
OOC: Is there some kind of group against the communists? I would love to support them.

Actually we have no problem going through with the coup. the soldiers and secret police are loyal. But what we need more then anything is international support. After the coup many countries will most probably condemn the coup. If we could have international recognition and support and security assurances that is what we will need most.
Thank you

OOC:This is the situation
The Former Comrade President Provoçe was a harsh hardliner stalinist communist who kept an iron grip on the country for 46 years. the country has been communist since 1946 and survived the collapse in 1989 and 1991 and only managed to survive barely and there was a famine becuase of a lack of allies becuase of the collapse of all of our aid donors.
Provoçe died in march this year and a young fresh reformist came to power.
He is initiating new reforms and relaxation's on the laws.
The surviving hardliners, stalinist and people loyal to Provoçe hate these new reforms and want a return to stalnism and Provoçe style communism. They want to topple the reformers.
General Milencu is heading the coup and wants to get rid of Alia and the reformers he is secretly looking for internation support for the coup and assurances and recognition when the coup happens
so basically its the reformist communists against the stalinist communists
OOC: Reformists it is then

Alia thinks he has complete control. most of the hardliners in the government are under house arrest or expelled from the party. BUT JUST TO LET EVERYONE NO. I WANT THIS TO END IN A STALINIST VICTORY AS THE END RESULT)

Just to let everyone know. This week is very important for Bulgislavia
On the 8th of May the entire nation in frozen in VE Day Celebrations for the 63rd anniversary of the defeat over Nazi Germany and end of World War 2 in Europe. On that day there will be mass parades, military parades, great propaganda peices. A parade of veterans and dawn parades.
If the coup were to fall on this day the military would already be in the Capital city of Terevesti and the leadership will be on the balcony of the Hall of the Party.
However the bad news is that many civilians will be out in the street. it could end up with a lot of casualties or the people might turn against the coup and they will have us outnumbered
calling off the VE day celebrations is out of the question. We dont have that authority. Any advice? do you think we should avoid a coup on the 8th of May or prefer it on that day?
To all the supporting comrades
From General Milencu
Celebrations? I suggest you attack tomorrow when everyone is tired and exhuasted. However, that is up to you.

We have a mountain range which seperates Bulgaria and Bulgislavia to the south. To the north is the Danube River and past the Danube River is Bulgia (A very close friend) and Romania. We have a coast on the black sea.
Running off the Danube is the Dobrok River which runs east through the center of the country. and ends up opening up into the black sea. Its mainly a flat country. the onnly hills are the southern hills boarding Bulgaria
Its population is 5,487,000

United Balkania
06-05-2008, 06:01
(OOC: I just have to introduce a new plot element here...)
Queen Dragana IV of the Kingdom of United Balkania looked nervously out the eastern window of her palace. She had received reports that Alia's government, an ally of United Balkania, was about to be toppled by hard-line Stalinist elements in Bulgislavia.
The well-meaning but ineffective Alia had been attempting reforms, but they had all gone wrong, leaving the people of his country worse off than before. The Bulgislavians were fed up. They had given up on Alia, and Provoce seemed to show them the way forward.
But Dragana feared revolution in Bulgislavia, not due to any ideological differences (reformist or stalinist made little difference to her) but for its repercussions in her own country. Balkania too was rumbling with discontent. The monarchy was crumbling from its very foundation--not only had Dragana produced no heir to the throne, the very concept of monarchy and autocracy was losing ground in Balkania. Modernization had brought with it new ideas of liberalism, democracy, equality, even socialism. Dragana's spies assured her that there was at least one main underground revolutionary group plotting her overthrow, with half a dozen satellite groups also planning insurrection. The lid was still on the pot for now, but if a coup in Bulgislavia were to be successful, the Balkanian rebels would be emboldened....
Dragana rang a solid gold bell and called in her most trusted noble minion, Count Zoltan Kovacs. A strikingly handsome dark-haired man of medium height, intelligent, cultured and refined, he was Dragana's advisor, confidante, right-hand man and chief diplomat. (OOC: if we want to do some nice literary character development here, he's also been Dragana's secret lover, off-and-on, for years.)
Dragana finished writing a piece of parchment and affixed her royal seal to it. "Send this message post-haste to the president of Bulgislavia," she instructed Zoltan. "Inform him that the Kingdom of United Balkania stands firmly behind him, and our soldiers are ready to fight to defend him and his people from these Stalinist rebel dogs."
Zoltan bowed obligingly and took the parchment, making sure it was delivered safely to the postal couriers.
But later that evening, as the moon was rising, Zoltan slipped away from his government office in the palace and crept down a back street and into a seedy tavern. He winked at the proprietor and surreptitiously gave a secret hand sign--the proprietor responded by quietly opening a door at the back of the establishment. Zoltan went down the hidden staircase and into a musty, candle-lit room....
"What news from the palace, Zoltan?!" said the rebel leader, Kostadin Vlahov. He was young, wide-eyed and idealistic, a poet, philosopher and radical.
"The Queen has thrown her lot in with Alia," said Zoltan morosely. "She's committed our army to fight the coup-plotters. She's going to keep her man in Bulgislavia at all costs."
"But with Alia still in power we'll never be able to get rid of this rotten monarchy!" exclaimed Kostadin.
"Yes, I know," said Zoltan gloomily. "That's why, as much as it pains me to throw OUR lot in with such despotic tyrants, we must join with Provoce's forces. He will isolate Bulgislavia from the rest of the region and sever these economic ties holding Dragana in place against the will of the people. The future of Balkania depends on this one moment in Bulgislavia...."

SECRET DOCUMENT
COUP PLAN!
Senario One: If the coup were to happen during the VE day Celebrations on the 8th.
On the 7th of May 10,000 soldiers will be transported into Terevesti to take place in the VE day Celebrations the next day.
We will make sure to supply the soldiers with real ammo.
On the 8th of May the celebrations for VE Day begin (the 63rd anniversary of the defeat over Nazi Germany). All the leadership, Alia and the reformers will be occuping the Balcony of the Hall of the Party in Central Terevesti overlooking Provoçe square where the parade is to be held.
The Parade begins at 9am beginning with civilians in red clothing and some floats passing by. At about 9:10 am 100 Young Pioneer children parade across the square.
at 9:25am the Terevesti Peoples Militia parade which consists of volunteers with old rifles and rubber bullets. They have no idea about the coup.
9:35am the Tanks begin to parade down Workers Party Victory Boulavard on thier way to Provoçe Square.
The Soldiers then begin parading after the Tanks at about 9:50.
At 9:20 we will order some soldiers to block off the secret underground escape tunnels below the Hall of the People which will block Alia and the reformers from escaping that way.
At about 9:30 we shall give the order for Cigouriva agents loyal to Comrade General Milencu to take secret positions on the rooftops overlooking the parade, boulavard and the Hall of the People.
Should ordinary people stand up against the coup the Cigouriva can take them out from thier vantage points.
When the tanks begin parading an order will be given to the tanks to halt and stop. If the reformers ask what is going on they are to tell them the Tank is having techinical problems. Then after a couple of minutes and everything is secure we give the order to aim the guns at the Hall of the People.
We will also order Cigouriva to begin firing thier weapons from the rooftops into the air to scare off the civilian's.
Soldiers and Cigouriva agents then storm the BNA (Bulgislavian News Agency)
that way they will have control of the news papers and TV Station.
and the Radio station will also be stormed.
Immediatly on the Radio they are to announce nothing instead play the emergency broadcast. and a Martial law announcement
On the TV they are to only play the "Emergency Broadcast Logo" and nothing else.
Teams of Soldiers are to patrol all the street forcing people to return to thier homes. anybody that refuses are to be rounded up and thrown into the Cigouriva vans and taken to the Cigouriva HQ.
Roadblocks are also to be put up around major streets and intersection.
All foriegners will be collected up by Soldiers are escorted to embassies or to the trainstation or Airport where they will immediatly be sent out of the country or held until such arrangements to get them out of the country can be made.
The Leadership of the Reformers and Alia are to be detained in the Main Banquet Hall inside the Hall of the Party where they are not to leave. The dangerous ones will be shot in the cellars of the Hall of the Party. Alia will be transported to his home and held under house arrest. The same will apply to the others with some being detained in the Cigouriva HQ in Terevesti.
At about 4pm the new Government will officially state the situation.
(The coup will not be easy to lie about. hundreds of thousands of civilians would of seen it and so the government will state the situation)
We will anounce that there has been a reversion back to true party rule and that Alia will stand trial for undermining the constitution
Bulgislavia
06-05-2008, 06:31
SENARIA 2: On the event the coup does not take place on the VE day Celebrations.
It would be easier to stage the coup when no one was on the street for possable in the early hours. anytime between midnight and 4am.
The Military will not be inside Terevesti. Only Cigouriva and the police force patrol the cities. For the first act the military out in the bases are to arm the soldiers and order them into all the cities and to block all the major highways.
The Cigouriva are to arrest the reformers and leadership in the early hours at thier very homes. Alia is to be kept under house arrest.
Once everything is secure in the countryside the soldiers are to make thierway into the city. Becuase this coup would of happened with basically no eye witnesses the Media under the control of the new government can create a story about Alia having to stand down for health problems or a story like that.
Immediatly the new consitution and laws are to come into effect and the glorious power of the party will be restored.

Thank you for the 20 Billion dollars. However we have one small request. Instead of recieving the 20 Billion all at once can we have it fed slowly to the country over years like $500 Million each year.
Thank you for your support in helping us to stop the degeneration of Bulgislavia any more. I'm glad we can count on your support and recognition after the coup takes place. When true party power is restored we will take steps to ensure this never happens again.

Prime Minister Lubmila Kronyatensko and President Grigore Istok were surprisingly enthusiastic about events to the south. For them it seemed to present an opportunity. Their attempts to roll-back Costel Nechita's years of disasterous liberalisation, which had created unemployment, inflation, homelessness, emigration, and even a new food crisis, may be coming to a head thanks to the awkward little kid next door.
The Securitat is careful to vet General Milencu's communiques and prepare security for a response, perhaps wasting valuable time, perhaps making sure that no slips are made depending on one's perspective.
The long and short of it, though, is that Milencu and his cohorts have not only the support of PM Kronyatensko but also of the ultimately more powerful President. Now the Bulgislavian conspirators have a better indication even than most Bulgians that Istok, who ruled even throughout Nechita's reform era, is at heart an ardent Communist, glad to see the back of the capitalist business magnates.
Whether they like it or not, forty-five million Bulgians in the Popular Republic are behind the Bulgislavian coup. And they're likely to get more of the same.
The Army even forwards a formal request to send a force to join the VE Day parades in Terevesti or elsewhere in Bulgislavia and champion togetherness in contrast to the divisions of the Great Patriotic War that turned nation against nation. Both sides of the simmering conflict in Bulgislavia will no doubt hear of the request, but each may draw its own conclusions as to the Bulgians' intent...

To the Bulgian Comrades.
The are extremely happy, very ecstatic to have your backing. The period immediatly after the coup will be dangerous for the Party. we will have to restructure. backtrack on Alia's awful experiment with liberalization. If your military could occupy some of the cities to "Help with the VE day Parade" in Bulgislavia it would be much appreciated. Infact for the sake of security we might be able to arange an agreement to host your soldiers to stay in our country for a longer stretch of time.
Do you have any sugesstions when the coup should happen? whatever is good for your soldiers
From Comrade General Milencu.
.........................................................................................
Milencu was extremely happy to have the support of the larger northern nieghbor of Bulgia. The one country Milencu thought that counted the most was Bulgia.
Milencu walked into Alia's office
"Comrade Milencu? I thought you were leaving the country for a while?"
"I'm going to delay my trip. I want to stay for the VE day Celebrations"
"Ah yes, should be a big event this year, our first VE day celebrations in the reform period"
"Um... Comrade General Secretary. Our Comrade brothers to the north in Bulgia are good friends. In a show of co-operation how about allowing some Bulgian soldiers to take part in the parade. This should streagnthen relations and let the people know creating awareness of out friendship with Bulgia"
"Take it up with the Parade Director but not me. Sounds like a good Idea though I'm sure it will be approved I dont see why not. Look Milencu I Know you disaprove of the reforms but we all have to work together if we want Bulgislavia to prosper. The world isnt as ideologically driven as it was before 1991. The Bulgislavia I am creating has a place in the modern world, that cold war fossil under Provoçe did not. I hope in time you can understand what I am doing"
Milencu just stared annoyed by Alia's words, then he turned and left the office.....

Notquiteaplace wishes you all the best and support of your new reformist government would like to offer a single float for this parade. There will be no advertising or tackiness as per usual carnival floats, but instead we'll throw out scratchcards, with a 3 one week holidays (in our capital city's popular tourist area) for some las vegas partying and even some free spending money and gambling money. The float will be a dragonfish shaped vehicle with 4 people all throwing scratchcards, and our flag in the middle.
We wish to be seen as a friend of your people.
Is this acceptable?

Comrade Milencu! I speak on behalf of the citizens of United Balkania, oppressed by a heartless and frivolous queen! Our people are suffering! Poverty and sickness are everywhere, our lives are being strangled by meaninglessness and oppression. Dragana's minions are terrorizing the populace, and every day innocent lives are destroyed.
We, a small group of democratic-republicans, have received word that a coup is in the making in Bulgislavia. We throw our full support behind you! If Alia's government is overthrown, it will show the good people of Balkania that it can be done, and our own revolution will not be far behind! To Notquiteaplace
From: VE day parade organizer. Sali Radiç
The Day is to celebrate the defeat over Nazi Germany. These parades always have to serve a political purpose to make the people support the Bulgislavian Workers Party. We adress them with idea's, messages and slogans.
The main message the workers party wants to put out is to Support Alia and his reforms as well as remembering the worlds victory over fascism and the Nazi's in the Great Patriotic Liberation War (WW2)
These are the Idea's that a float has to contain that are acceptable for the parade
Heroic Millitary winning over fascism
Co-operation with our Party and Bulgislavia
The New Oppourtunities emerging for ordinary people under Alia
Greater Freedom thanks to the party
Our great ideology winning and going from stregnth to stregnth
Currently your float idea contains
The New Oppourtunities emerging for ordinary people under Alia
and simply having a presence in the capital contains the
Co-operation with our Party and Bulgislavia
and so we will accept you float idea
TAG -- I'll be helping the Stalinists shortly.

Provoçe square was filled with 40,000 regular citizens. They were dressed in Red Clothing and all held a card. They were rehersing for the VE day parade.
Soldiers were already being transported from the Military bases on the outskirts to the city to Bunkhouses in the Center of Terevesti. Ready to participate in the parade tomorrow.
Milencu and Alia were standing on the balcony of the Hall of the Party to inspect the rehersals.
A great band was also rehersing playing militaristic music and the Bulgislavian National Anthem.
The 40,000 civilians would at once lift up the cards on the order of a conductor speaking through the mega phones and as soon as they were held up they contained the worlds
"CORIMAUS WAR OMAU FAÇIMA
63"
(Victourious war over Fascism 63)
The 63 to represent the anniversary number of 63 years since the deafeat over Nazi Germany
Then when the conductor shouted out another command the cards would all flip over and create a picture of a herioic soldier's, workers, scientists, farmers all lifting thier fists in the air. It was a great picture.
Tomorrow Alia would be toppled.
He had no idea what was coming He had thought he had eliminated all threats to his reforms but he didnt count on the remaining Hardliners. Alia had arrested and expelled all the wrong stalinists from the party not the ones that counted like the ambitious, charasmatic Milencu
Pavlik Gregori trudged through the thick undergrowth just inside the border of Bulgislavia, every now and again he saw the piercing beam from a spotlight and maybe the bark of a distant dog, but after gaining good ground they faded into the distant night. He would have to make contact with Terevesti by the night's end, which meant he would have to make miles on foot to the nearest town and hope his accent didn't give him away.
His orders were simple, his secretive and mysterious contact in the Államvédelmi Hatóság (Andaras State Protection Authority) had given him two words: Terevesti and Milencu. Terevesti he discovered was the location, and he could only guess Milencu was the contact of the Államvédelmi Hatóság source.
Gregori had always worked into the dark, he had worked for the old bourgeois secret police during the old regime, but was a double agent for the Andarasan Communists. He personally ordered the summary shooting for over 5,000 suspected counter-revolutionaries after the revolution. His mother was Bulgislavian, so he knew enough of the language to get by, but his accent was off.
Gregori's source, when pressured regarding his backers, said only one word, Polit, which in itself was enough for Gregori and his handler. He had guessed that the Party were edgy about Prekov's revisionist clique, and it's potential to wind back socialism in Bulgislavia.
His orders were simple, make contact with Milencu in Terevesti and then try to coordinate help from the SPRA to Bulgislavia. At the moment Andarasan involvement was unknown, but Gregori guessed that the Party would have little qualms about open intervention.
At the Friendship Tunnel, as many Bulgians called it, soldiers of the newly-titled Popular Army were massing along with the best examples of Bulgian hardware (though most of it was licence built technology originating in the CSSR, SFRY, USSR, and elsewhere), and a vanguard element had already crossed, waving Bulgian, Bulgislavian, and plain red flags and waving to Bulgislavian border security as they passed into the little nation.
Bottles of Bulgian clear brandy were handed down from armoured vehicles and cigarette packets thrown to curious locals as the Bulgians began to file by, heading for various parade sites around Bulgislavia. Here was a battle tank based upon the Soviet style but sporting an extra road wheel in the Romanian fashion and superior night-vision aparatus of Yugoslavian origin, there a self-propelled gun marrying a Serbian Nora-C 152mm piece to a Czechoslovakian 8x8 truck body, its tyres all white-walled for parade duty.
Bulgian soldiers had AK-derivative rifles polished to a high luster. The domestic variant took cues from around the old Soviet Bloc, with forehand grips based on Romanian AKMs and stamped receivers a half millimetre thicker than the standard AK to reduce vibration, as with Yugoslavian M70s.
The Popular Republic's technology was a halfway house between Bulgislavia's obviously dated base and the west's fierce modernity. Bulgia refused to allow itself to be flooded by entirely new, uncompatible western systems, but went to pains to get the absolute most out of tried and tested Cold War Soviet technology by adapting it to suit modern needs and the particular Balkan situation.
The BCP felt that Bulgislavia's reforms ought to be in this fashion, rather than the brash reformations favoured by men like Alia and Nechita.
Still, while Kronyatensko and Istok plotted with Milencu, opposition leader Costel Nechita of the Bulgian Socialist Workers' Party acted on his President's advice and paid a visit to Bulgislavia. The former Prime Minister hoped to attend the VE Day celebrations and meet with Alia, whom he saw as a kindred spirit and wished to advise based on his own years of reformist struggle and his ultimate failure at the last elections.
If all went well, Istok mused, that troublemaker Nechita would be implicated and discredited along with Alia in some grand intrigue against the revolution.
Bulgislavia

Alia was keen to meet Costel Nechita, former Primeminister of Bulgia.
Alia did not want a multi party democracy in Bulgislavia but he was prepared for a regime change if it ever happened. He wanted the Bulgislavian workers party to rule for as long as it possable could. Talking to his inner circle he talked about what would happen should the regime collapse in which he said
"Nothing would really change that much, The government would change in name but we would still be in power, it happened after 1989 and even now former communists are still in power in those countries so its not like we would actually lose in a regime change"
His inner circle agreed with him in thinking that a regime change would not be a bad idea. Alia also once said
"If we 'liberated' Bulgislavia from the 'Opression' of the communist rule that would buy us at least another 10 years in power after the regime changes"
He seemed to speak as if it was inevatable.
When Milencu heard of what Alia had said it basically led to Milencu forming this coup in the first place.
..................................................................................................
Alia still suspected nothing about any coup or plot.
"I cant wait to meet mr Costel Nechita, I get this country moving in the right direction" said Alia to one of his aides
"Wont that upset our friends the Bulgians? we are supose to support them"
"no, no. Mr Nechita acted on orders of his president, this appearance will show how open the Bulgislavian Workers Party is becoming" said Alia

that's all.

Notquiteaplace your float moderfications have been accepted and is already being prepared for the parade taking place in a few hours.
(OOC:Within 3 hours of this post that I just posted)
The city was being decorated by the local government.
Flags and banners holding the sickle and hammer. Portraits of Alia in the middle of a golden star were also being hung in area's
People were also coming out ready and waving small mini Bulgislavian flags. They were all ready walking and heading out to the Hall of the Party.
As people walked in large groups they were holding Alia portraits shouting Long live the Reforms, Long live Alia.
(OOC: Despite the emerging new hardships or rising cost of living, slowly growing unemployment and inflation Alia still had a very large following)
The soldiers were starting to patrol the major cities around Bulgislavia ready to participate in thier own parades
Milencu was extremely nervous though very excited too. The soldiers underneath the Hall of the Party were already in place to block the secret underground escape tunnels.
Milencu had also orderd airforce jets to be ready and prepared for when the coup happened so they can fly over the Hall of the Party to prevent Alia from escaping from the air.
.................................................................................................... .
(OOC: things we need to adress before the coup can happen.
The Civilian floats where Notquiteaplace will attend, Former Bulgian Primeminister is also going to attend has be to rp'd We will just get a government escort o pick him up and the Terevesti International Airport where he will be transported to the Hall of the People)
...............................................................................................
Ivan Començau was a regular civilian. He loved Alia as a leader. His recent purchase was a western imported Camera which cost one month of his wages.
He wanted to take it to the parade where he would take pictures to keep as a memory
"I'm gonna stand as close to the Hall of the People as possable! I will be able to take pictures of the comrades! All of them!" He said to his friends on their way to Provoçe square.....
Bulgislavia

Ivan Començau was standing between dozens of Bulgislavian civilians all cheering and chanting in the middle of Provoçe Square just below the Hall of the Party He was taking pitcures of the leadership standing on the Balcony. Alia and the central leadership were standing on the balcony looking down on the crowd of thousands of people. In the very middle of the Square were the 40,000 citizens wearing the red coloured clothing and holding up the cards to form the slogan.
Alia began speaking
"Today is the 63rd anniversary of the deafeat of Nazi Germany. the 63rd Anniversary of the end of our Great Patriotic Liberation War! Long Live the Reforms, Long live Bulgisavia!"
after that the crowd began to all clap in unison while chanting
"Çela Nuya Le Reçesne! Çela nuya le reçesne!"
(Long live the Revolution! Long live the revolution!)
"Let the parade begin!" said Alia with the crowd erupting in applause
The Militaristic music began sounding all over the square at the band began to perform. First a float went by with a model of a Bulgislavian soldier bayoneting a cowering Nazi soldier. the next float was a long train like vehicle with the words
OMUIST CORIMAUS! (Happy Victory!)
running down both sides of the vehicle sticking up with Bulgislavian civilians dressed in red waving the flag of the party and the Bulgislavian flag.........
Comrade General Milencu was not in the Hall of the Party. He was standing outside the Cigouriva HQ. Vans were beginning to leave filled with plain clothed Cigouriva making thier way to strategic buildings to make thier way to their vantage points on the roof's.
Small patrol of soldiers were also heading to the TV stations, Radio Stations, printing presses for "Security Reasons" and they were let in by the unsuspecting workers where they waiting for the signal to sieze control of these key buildings.........................

the float sent by Notquiteaplace was the last float in teh civilian section of the parade.
The Crowd saw it. There were Bulgislavian's riding on the float too. A float from a democratic capitalist nation like Notquiteaplace symbolized the rest of the world for the Bulgislavian's and when they saw the float they began to chant
"The world is with us! The world is with us!" (Meaning the world now supported Bulgislavia and the reforms instead of condemning the Bulgislavian Workers Party.
Then came the tanks closely behind. the Notquiteaplace float made its way out off the square and carried around the other streets of the city following the other floats.
When the tank neared the endge of the square it suddenly stopped. Tha band continued playing. Alia hardly noticed it and continued waving down to the crowd.
Then the tanks began to line up closely behing the stalled tank and Alia couldnt ignore the delay
"What problem is going on down there!?" said Alia
"I dont know, Technical problems?" replied one of the aides.
The crowd began to chatter wondering what was happening. most found it amusing that the tank apparently broke down in a militaristic victory parade. Tha band still continued playing.
The soldiers and infantry section of the parade had now caught up with the tanks and all of a sudden jets could be heard in a distance.
"This is a disaster!? get the parade moving!?" yelled Alia, he then walked up to the Microphones
"Well Comrades it seems there are some Techinical difficulti........." Alia was cut out and his speech ended abruptly. Milencu's forces had disabled the microphones. the crowd then started to get confused and some were beginning to wonder about, chatting and talking
The tanks's guns then began to turn and aim the Hall of the Party. then gunfire could be heard. The Cigouriva began firing into the air from the rooftops
It caused a massive panic
"Shit what the hell is going on!" Yelled Ivan Començau who was wedged between the panicked crowd. He aimed his new camera up at the rooftops and snapped up some photo's. He captured of a plain clothed Cigouriva agent holding a sniper rifle on one of the nearby rooftops.
"A coup! its a coup!" shouted a man in the crowd.
People began to scatter in fear and panic.
Alia and the leadership fleed the balcony and retreated inside the Hall of the Party as soon as they heard gunfire.
The order had been giving on all military communications.
Soldiers would without warning turn thier guns on the TV studio staff, Radio staff, news printing staff and the staff of other major public services and wer eheld hostage.
TV went completely off the air and the Radio broadcasts were also disabled.
Ivan ran for cover on the sidewalk where he ran into a state owned store. He took some photo's out the window.
A shot of some tanks aiming thier guns at the Hall of the party on a desolate public square with some citizens in the backround cowering and running for cover in fear.
.................................................................
"Where the hell is Milencu! Its him! he's the military man! he's the one responsible!" yelled Alia.
By this stage Airforce jets were flying over the Hall of the Party.
"General Secretary Prekov, leaving the Hall of the Party by helicopter is out of the question we will be shot down for sure!"
"What about the tunnels, we can leave Terevesti through those!" yelled back Alia
"No Milencu knows about those tunnels. The basement doors have been sealed and their passwords have been disabled, Milencu must of blocked them off"
.......................................................................
a dozen citizens declared themselves "enimies of the coup!" and were walking around chanting
"Save the Reforms!" and "Down with the coup!"
they were a small number of people. it was the first and last attempt against the coup as Cigouriva and soldiers ruthlessly shot them down in the street.
..............................................................................
Ivan Començau caustiously ran out of the shot.
The soldiers on Provoçe square were erecting barbed wire blockades on all the roads leading into the square. pointed his camera to the Government Offices window inside the hall of the Party. Alia was standing at the window. He was looking down on the square.
That photo would be the last peice of material evidence of Alia last seen alive?
.............................................................................
"Get away from the windows! the Cigouriva can take you out!" said one of Alia's trusted political allies
"They would never get away with killing me, the people would eat them alive if they did that!" said Alia
Roadblocks were quickly being erected all over the city
Ivan ran towards the Workers Party Victory Boulavard
"STOP! STOP! WHERE ARE YOU GOING!" yelled a soldier at Ivan
"Please! I'm harmless I have to get home!"
"Stay off the fucking streets! your lucky I didnt Kill you!" yelled back the soldier
Ivan was hiding his camera in his coat. It certainly would of been confiscated and destroyed if they had found it.
"Yes sir I will go home straight away!" replied Ivan
Ivan stayed close against the walls of the buildings taking short cut routs homes trying to avoid anybody he saw.
By this stage the streets were completely deserted. It had been 2 hours now since the coup had begun
There were 4 bloody bodies lying in the gutter. They were against the coup but were taken out by Cigouriva on the rooftops
Ivan quickly took some photo's when he heard a small whimper
"h...he..help me" said a woman lying in the gutter. She had short black hair and had been shot in the arm and stomache.
"Dont worry i'll get you out of here!" said Ivan. Then a gunshot echoed over the street. the Cigouriva were now firing around Ivan to scare him away from the Dissident.
Out of panic Ivan gripped the womans arm and dragged her around the street corner she was screaming in pain.
Ivan then carried her in his arms. She must of been in her late 20's.
Ambulances were blocked off by tanks so they couldnt leave the hospital on call outs but people managed to make their way to the hospital.
Typical of Bulgislavia it was a backwards service with never enough beds, medicine and doctors and nurses and so the hospital was quite ineffective at the best of time.
When Ivan arrived with the woman in his arms the hospital staff were frantic and overwhelmed. Calling on volunteers to help out. The unfortunate victims were covered in bloody sheets while the survivors were seated or lying next to teh dead.
A doctor used Ivans help to get the woman on an old bench and wrapped her up in a blanket.
"How did so many innocent people get caught up in this!?" asked Ivan to the doctor
"Its the Cigouriva! they were firing arbitrarily into apartment blocks and down streets and buildings. I dont even know if they were following orders they just went on a rampage or got trigger happy, I dont know but it was them!... Now we need your help, Use this to put pressure on the wound, dont let her bleed to much ok? i'm going to leave you with her, we are besieged here!" said the doctor leaving.
"Your going to be ok, do you hear me?" said Ivan
The woman was silent. she was alive but had passed out.
.................................................................................................... .
"General Secretary the lower levels have been breached! the military are storming the Hall of the Party!"
"Get to the upper levels quickly!" yelled Alia
They began to move out of the room except for Alia
"Your not coming? are you mad they will kill you!"
"I'll die by my hands rather then face thier torture and execution!"yelled Alia slaming his office doors behind them and locking it. From the other side her heard his allies
"wait Alia dont do this! we need you! Bulgislavia need you!"
Alia went and sat at his desk.
.................................................................................................
Soldiers flowed through the halls and rooms of the Hall of the People. Milencu rode into Provoçe square in a military jeep...........

Surrounded by Soldier Milencu walked up the front steps of the Hall of the Party. Then enerted the grand structure.
In Alia's office be began to hear shouting and stomping of boots as the soldiers were running down the Hall.
Alia grabbed a small handgun in his desk, placed it in his mouth and pulled the trigger. Blood splattered a bit on the floor behind his seat where his body rolled on his seat and then fell onto his desk where his body lay slumped over the desk.
The soldiers immediatly bashed the door down with ease and surrounded the dead Alia.
"Seal this room! nobody touch anything!" yelled one of the commanders
.............................................................................................
In the upper floors the rest of the reformers had baracadded themselves in an old Baquet hall. The soldiers quickly shot down the door and killed Alia's low ranking aides immediatly and then led the rest of the reformist leadership from the Banquet Hall.
"Comrade General Milencu, We have the remaining reformers what do you want us to do with them?"
"Get rid of them, take them down to the cellars and shot them"
"what about the international community? They wont stand for this"
"I wanted a bloodless coup but that would never of happened. we have to cut all ties and start from the start beginning with the cleasning of the government. Those that profitted most from Alia's experiement will be next!" said Milencu
The remaining government leaders were led down into the cellars
"This is rediculous! the whole world will know what is going on here!" yelled one of the reformers
"Not my problem.... Turn around!" yelled the commanding soldier
The 20 reformist leaders faced the Cellar walls. A hail of gunfire shattered the back wall and the reformists causing them to collapse with bullet holes and blood all over the back wall.
.................................................................................................... ..
Ivan was still at the hospital. He managed to take some pictures of the state of the hospital and the suffering of the victims of Cigouriva.
By this stage Cigouriva in civilian cloths were patroling the streets. Anybody caught out was taken into a discreet area, questioned and if thier story's werent good enough they were shot in the head.
"What do you think will happen to us now" asked an injured man who had been shot in the leg and was next to Ivan
"We all revert back to life under Provoçe.... I guess" said Ivan
"What do you think will happen to you?" asked the man
"I have to get these photo's out of the country! I have a camera and I've been capturing the events ever since Provoçe Square this morning the whole world will know what is going on in this country!"
"First you have to find a foriegner, there all being escorted by soldiers and Cigouriva to the border and to the embassy's" said the man
.........................................................................................
Milencu walked into Alia's office
"Shit, start a clean up of all the bodies, round them up in the trucks and take them to the graveyard and bury them all in simple graves immediatly" I have to be taken to the TV station immediatly we have to announce to Bulgislavia what has happened" said Milencu walking out of Alia's office.
Minutes passed and Milencu was transported to the TV stations and within 20 minutes TV came back on air. All Bulgislavians that were deprived off all information all day were stunned by the emergency broadcast.
It opened with the Bulgislavian National Anthem.
Then Milencu standing center surrounded by soldiers were facing the camera. Milencu began talking
"Dear Comrade Bulgislavian's. We all know that our nation was in danger. in danger from every direction, Foriegners were poisoning out national identity, it was being watered down. Our party was undermined. People were losing thier jobs and our national assests were being sold off to the foriegners. As loyal Bulgislavians it was out duty to act. we could not stand by and see our country degenerate any more. Unfortunatly there were casualties today. Our Comrade General Secretary committed suicide. But this is a fresh start for Bulgislavia, co-operate with the party and authorities. Cerfew will be imposed. Martial law is ineffect....."
Milencu began reading out the points and rules in the Martial law. then the Broadcast ended

Within 30 minutes of the broadcast 1,000 citizens had banded together and had rushed the board, the boarder guards were in a state of fear they fired on the fleeing refugees but they were overpowered and by the end of it 940 people had ramed through the fences and gates and had made it into neighboring Romania. a simple outbreak also happened in the south fleeing to Bulgaria but only 80 fleed.
.............................................................................
Cigouriva then began to drag people out of thier homes. They were the people who had profitted the most out of the reforms. Small business owner, people in free, private industries and dissidents.
By the end of the round up 8,000 people were transported to Provoçe Statdium in central Terevesti where they were placed in the middle.
Soldiers were standing on the seats of the stadium and fired down on the crowd of dissidents and they were never seen again.....
...................................................................................
Ivan handed his camera to a foriegn journalist who was there to do a report on the reforms in Bulgislavia and to coincide with todays VE day celebrations.
"Your leaving the country?" asled Ivan
"yes" said the Journalist in harsh Bulgislavian. It was obvious the Journalist was not from Bulgislavia, where he was from it was anybodies guess
"You have photo's?, proof?" said Ivan
"Camera.... Taken by soldiers" said the journalist again in rough Bulgislavia
Ivan handed the journalist his camera
"Get it out of the country and keep it safe!"
.......................................................................................
They were at a border crossing.
Earlier that day a couple of hundred people had rushed the border to get out of the country. Lena wanted to get out of the country too.
She put on a fake Romanian accent hoping to trick the authorities into thinking she was a Romanian and would let her leave the country.
Many others were also doing this at other border crossings
"Name, Age, Country of origin and passport please" said the Border guard
"Lena, 26, Romania and I lost my passport in the chaos" she said
The Border guard shot her a look of disbelief
"Take this form, just leave, if you get caught I've never seen you before!" whispered the man
Lena took the form she felt extremely stunned and made her way with the leaving form over the border to a train waiting to take her to Bucharest..

All the hardliners that had been expelled from the party under and Alia were now allowed out of house arrest, out of the prisons and thier party status was reinstated. Alia called an emergency party meeting to adress a constitution change.
The Chamber seats were only 67% full as all the reformers were now either under arrest, dead or had fled.
"Comrades, this is a victory for the people, I wish tings could of gone more nicely but unfortunatly it happened this way. This is Bulgislavia's new start. Under Martial Law I will hold the post as Transitional General Secretary. within the coming weeks the party will be restructured and restored to its glory where it will elect a new President and General Secretary. This country will revive and we will restore it to true party power"
The party leaders then began to clap in unison in support of Milencu

Cigouriva began to enter the hospital as plain clothed civilians. They were easy to define. Unlike everybody else they looked calm and uncaring. They were taking over the hospital.
The doctor Ivan met at the beginning walked over to him
"Doctor whats going on?" asked Ivan
"The Cigouriva are taking over the hospital. We have all been giving orders to co-operate"
"Are they going to kill us?" said Ivan
"I dont know..." said the doctor in despair.
Cigouriva talke with the doctors asking about each patient and how they were brought in. Then they instructed the doctors to ask the patients how they ended up here. If they were injured demonstrators they were collected up.
"Dont let them take me..." said the injured woman weakly
"Your awake!?" whispered Ivan
"They will kill me"
"Dont worry" said Ivan
One of the Cigouriva agents walked over. It was a tall woman with tightly tied back black hair and she had hard stern voice
"What happened to her?" she asked
"She is my sister, we were at the parade and a Bullet hit her" said Ivan
The interrogation continued until the Cigouriva lady finally believed him and left. the Rounded up patients were then taken into the central hospital courtyard and shot. the patients and doctors all whimpered and screamed in fear. then the Cigouriva left.
"This a madness!" said Ivan
"So is this what we are going to have to live with under Milencu!" said the Doctor.

It was beginning to get dark. Bodies from all over the city were now being rounded up and placed in the Provoçe Stadium and piled up where they were set on fire and burnt. Smoke began to rise out of the roof.
Ivan stayed at the hospital. He volunteered to help out the doctors who still had a number of injured.
"Thank you for you help" said the Doctor
"Well I want to do my bit, besides I dont feel safe to walk home now" said Ivan
"What do you think Milencu will be like as out new ruler?" asked the Doctor
"Another Provoçe, but after today... maybe worse then Provoçe" said Ivan
"I heard Martial law has been declared so in 30 more minutes you will have no choice but to stay here for the rest of the night".......................

Milencu a luxurious guest bedroom in the Hall of the Party cleaned out. It was to be his new Presidential Office. he did not want to take over Alia's. he thought of it as "Tainted" as someone had died in it.
"Comrade Milencu you called me" said a short, old man
"We need to let the people know that everything is under control and that they are not to worry. As organizer of the VE day Parade and the May Day Parade I want you to choreograph and new parade to occur as soon as possable to boast moral of the party and country. To show the country and the world that we are suported. Ivite all countries that recognize us to attend the Parade. the Parade will that place next week sometime if possable. we need this for the sake of the people" said Milencu
"Yes Comarde It will be done"
...........................................................................................
Back at the hospital Ivan was still sitting with the woman. she was still alive.
It had calmed down more. 10 more people had died with thier injuries since the Cigouriva inspection.
"If only we had the right facilities and resources to actually help!" said the doctor in frustration. He was a tall man aged 38 with dark hair and tanned skin.
"How are the other......." The entire hospital went completely dark and cut into Ivans sentence.
It was a city wide powercut. Theses were always common in Bulgislavia
"Dont you have a backup generator? this is a hospital" said Ivan
"Were not western europe... Were Europes black hole, didnt you know that?" said the Doctor
"Whats that supose to mean?" said Ivan
"Ah nothing, just an Article I read once from a Journalist I met"

:mp5::sniper:This is very sad and pathetic. Why would any person do such a thing to their citizens who will one day get rid of YOU!! You are a low person Milencu. Very low. Alia was and will always be a better leader than you. Change in government is always bound to happen. Alia's change was better for your country and everyone knows that counties sometimes go through problems with economy and numerous smaller situations. We are very dissapointed in your judgement and your actions. So far you are the first leader I will not talk to happily. If you don't put the Reformers back in power or leave what has changed in place, expect a war.

"Sir, we got a call from Bugislavia"
"So? the parade goes well?"
"No, not exactly
Albert knew this wasn't good, he sighed, "well? What happened? The float broke down? Remember, we don't shoot the messenger"
The aide sighed, "well sir, it seems there's a coup by the hardliners... Our people managed to get a message to us on their mobile, but basically it seems the reformists have been overthrown".
Albert froze, he could see the headlines "holiday stopped, Albert is angry" mocking him, but this was about a country who had a choice to enter the rest of the world and had it stolen from under their noses. Notquiteaplace could lose a trading partner, several citizens and worse. They had run so quickly to support the reforms and couldn't just turn on a dime, especially given that the notquiteaplace military overshadowed Bugislavia's own armed forces in numbers many times over, let alone in terms of bleeding edge technology and training. They could ensure democracy happened, and had a duty to now.
Within hours the telegram was ready.
"Notquiteaplace condemns this coup. If your regime is supported by the people, it will win a democratic election. Notquiteaplace is offering you one chance to return our people unharmed. We will help oversee and fund a fair election if you allow the people a fair say here. If not, we will be forced to ensure your coup is ended.
A task force is already on the way and will be arriving in a few days. It will be called off if you renounce this coup and restore democracy.
Notquiteaplace was a good distance away and the navy was not the fastest, but it was heavy and being an island people, notquiteaplace navy was powerful, escorting thousands of men, supplies, armour and support, as well as some supplies to make makeshift bases and more, the fleet was huge, in groups several miles apart, each with whole fleets of escorts.
OOC: Notquiteaplace military literally outnumbers yours by about 30 to 1, and has a HUGE budget, cutting edge tech etc, (check my nation page, we're loaded and militaristic :P) however the distance means that if your allies show in force, we could concievably be beaten off, or at least face huge resistance as we can't send everyone and are based in the Carribean.
Telegram me if you're set on a certain outcome by the way. Otherwise we'll attempt to steamroller you. And given our number wankery, we're pretty hefty compared to a small poor communist nation and should do effortlessly...
I'll RP briefings and stuff in the next post I make...

It was the day after the coup. Soldiers and plain clothed Cigouriva still patrolled the streets. The road blocks were still up. ID checks were everywhere and travel outside of each city was forbidden just as travel into the cities were banned for country dwellers.
"Comrade General, As we suspected the outside world has not taken this well. Some have even threats of war" said an aide to Milencu who was sitting in a brand new desk in his new presidential office
"Maybe we acted a little to soon, but I have the support from a number of nations. We just have to cut ourselves off completely. I hardlythink a small nation of just over 5 million really matters to people. its not like we have any natural resources either"
"They say if we hold an election they will leave us alone"
"Well thats exactly what we are going to do. After the country is restructured the Workers Party will vote to elect a President and General Secretary. I dont know what they are complaining about"
"I think they mean an election where the entire population votes"
"What? The Bulgislavian Workers party is the voice of the people and representatives of the working class. the Workers party is the people. and so as representatives of the working class and of the Bulgislavian people they will vote. This is fair. why cant the west see that!?" said Milencu
..........................................................................................
Ivan was still in the hospital. the city wide powercut lasted all through the night and with no heating and run down facilities not equiped for the patients 2 people died that night.
"I'm glad we had you hear. I appreciate everything you have done. You can volunteer anytime you like here" said the doctor to Ivan
"What about the woman?" said Ivan
"We will take care of her. she should be fine"
"Ok well thank you and goodluck" said Ivan leaving the hospital
Upon walking out of the hospital the tanks were still parked in the front blocking an exit by ambulances. Soldiers were also stationed out front.
Ivan didnt make eye contact. It didnt take long before he encountered the military.
Around the deserted street a gang of Soldiers surrounded Ivan
"Where are you going, Give me your ID card!" ordered one of the Soldiers
Ivan pulled out his wallet. A soldier pushed Ivan to the wall and took the wallet looking at his ID
"I just want to go home... Please I've been volunteering at the hospital all night"
The soldiers handed back Ivan's wallet where he walked off.
Ivan was walking past one of the cities libraries. it was smoking. it had been set on fire last night and purged of all the Reformist era books. all western literature rbought in during the reforms had to be destroyed.
Ivan eventually reached his house............

Message to the Government of Notquiteaplace
We have your citizens who participated in the parade. They are safe and were unharmed. They are being held in a guest room inside the Hall of the Party. We will transport them to the Terevesti International Airport where a helicopter will fly them across the border to Bulgaria where they will be taken to Varna, the coastal city. If this good enough? they would of made it out of Bulgislavia unharmed.
As for the elections the Bulgislavian Workers Party will vote to elect a General Secretary and President and as the Workers Party are representatives of the working class and people of Bulgislavia this vote will be as good as any other election.
Just keep in mind a size of an army has nothing to do with who will win in a war. If you were to invade sure our army would be defeated but..... well hows that working out in Iraq for the US eh? so I'm sure you dont want your military to be bogged down in what could turn into an unpopular war for a puny country of only 5.4 million with no natural resources to make it strategic in anyway.
And one last word. To show you just how popular we are with the people we can send you footage of the celebrations for the support of the party to be held sometime next week if you like...
From Transitional President and General Secretary Milencu
..........................................................................................
Among other people held up in the Hall of the People was former Primeminister of Bulgia, Nechita.
He was being held in a guest room also. When the coup broke out Nechita was escorted to a seperate area of the Hall of the Party away from the former reformist leaders and held in a guest room for security. when the soldiers finally stormed the parliament building they continued to detain him in the Guest room. The government is waiting on Bulgia to decide what to do with him.
.............................................................................................
THE SITUATION SO FAR.....
The coup has finished. The hardliners led by Milencu are in control of the country.
Travel in and out of the country for ordinary people is banned. Travel in and out of the cities is also banned.
Roadblocks and security checkpoints are everywhere
Soldiers and Cigouriva are also patrolling everywhere.
We have Bulgian troops stations in some of our cities
Most foriegners have managed to leave the country.
Currently the Government is being restructured. Old party members are having thier old positions re-instated. and new hardliner members are being recruited and promoted into the party.
Currently there is calm. No one dares to oppose the coup. most people are staying indoors as the government has declared that work is optional today.
All private businesses have been closed down and occupied by soldiers with thier earnings and assests being turned over to the state.
Most of the streets are deserted except for the teams of Cigouriva and soldiers patrolling.......
Bulgislavia
While Bulgislavia's 5.4 million citizens counted amongst their number just a few tens of thousands of military personnel, not even an especially high ratio, possibly explained by much higher numbers of intelligence, secret police, and internal security staff, neighbouring Bulgia's 45 million were protected by over 400,000 defence force regulars.
It now appeared that the Popular Republic's protective wing was being extended over Bulgislavia. As many as 18,000 Bulgian Army personnel were presently in the People's Republic, many having arrived for the parades while some further had crossed to, officially, render assistance after violent riots. For how long they would remain, and in what strength, was yet to be made evident.
Locked in his room, Costel Nechita, just a few years ago dashing, handsome, squeaky-clean leader of the first elected government in the modern history of Bulgia, was now visibly destroyed. His hair was losing its colour -once a famously golden blond uncommon in Bulgia- and his previously captivating eyes seemed sunken and dull. He offered no resistance, hardly a whimper of protest, and sat silently, apparently unable to come to terms with the scale of his recent fall from grace or the brutality of the Stalinist coup unfolding around him. He had seen himself as not only the man who would save Bulgia, but also the hero who would reach out and drag Bulgislavia into the twenty first century, and imagined himself internationally famous. What a turn life had taken!
[OOC: I have to go, but expect the Popular Republic's official reaction in coming days. If there's a foreign attempt to over-throw Bulgislavia while I'm away, either wait, or assume that those 18,000 Bulgian personnel are acting on orders to support Milencu. If people really want a war, and Bulgislavia isn't keen, perhaps Bulgia can shoulder the weight of it, since it will soon become clear that the biggest obstacle to regieme change in Bulgislavia is actually perhaps the Bulgian Communist Party and the Army that is loyal to it.]

Ivan lived in a grey block apartment on some large avenue.
His flat was on the 8th floor and consisted of one bedroom, kitche and lounge and a bathroom. He was only 24 and shared the flat with his Brother and his wife and 2 children. His brother was 28 years old.
"Ivan where the hell were you!? we were all worried!" said his brother
"I was at the hospital all last night" said Ivan
Ivans brother was Turi, his wife and 2 children were sitting in the lounge. The children slept in the lounge with Ivan while Turi and his wife Milla slept in the one bedroom.
"All shops are not to be open past 5:30pm from now on to preserve electricity" said Milla listening to the radio (The 2 hours TV) was yet to come on as it came on at 5pm and went on till 7pm.
"We should get down to the shops quickly before all of the goods become scarce again!" said Ivan
"It might be dangerous the government has told the people to stay indoors today" said Turi
"Look we should stock up on as much as we can before we have to deal with the empty shelves that we all dealt with under Provoçe!"
"Fine, Milla we will be back, we wont be long"
Ivan and Turi walked out of the flat and onto the street.
"We are going to have to get rid of our phone" said Turi
"What!? we only just got it a couple of weeks ago!"
"Government order that all western technology or goods brought during the reform period must be handed back, apparently out phone is 'unregestered' and we have to order a Bulgislavian phone" said Turi
"phones are shit anyway, everybody knows Bulgislavia's telecommunications lines are some of the most unreliable in europe!"
As Turi and Ivan came closer to some of the shops they noticed an increased police and military presence.
A line of people snaked around the corner of the road. Apparently there was a rush of people trying to get the goods before the country returned to the frequent shortages
"Shit! I guess we will be here for a while" said Turi
Then a supply truck full of groceries and goods came around the corner
a rush of people began to form around the truck blocking it from driving to the store it was going to supply
Th police and military just stood back and observed making sure no riot broke out.
The truck driver stepped out and opened the back of the truck.
"Its foodstuffs! 90 Urmi for Carrots! 50 Urmi for Lettuce and 80 Urmi for milk!" yelled the driver
"What are you mad! thats four times the usual price!" yelled a voice from the crowd
"You can line up for hours at the store for nothing or buy it fresh off the truck!" said the driver
People decided to pay four times the price then wait in lines for hours at the store. This was not an unusual practice. It happened often in Provoçe's Bulgislavia though Ivan and Turi were disheartened that this practice had returned already. it usually resulted in an almost empty truck arriving at the store with very little to help resupply the already empty shop.
Ivan and Turi walked back to thier flat with a bottle of milk, a loaf of bread and 200grams of butter and some sugar. Already they had obtained more then the rations set by the government.
They returned back to the apartment and stored the goods away.
they all huddled on the sofa and listened to the radio broadcast from Bulgislavian's state radio station
"Transitional leader comrade Ion Milencu has stated the new export drive will help make the country rich and prosperous in the long run. He went on to say that foriegn loans had crippled the country thanks to Alia's dream of making Bulgislavia a westernized nation and that all loans would be payed off by the year 2015"

United Balkania
10-05-2008, 06:07
Kostadin Vlahov sat in front of the television, his blue eyes wide and his lips trembling. News was just trickling in from Bulgislavia: the coup had taken place, and by all reports it was successful.
This is the beginning of it all, he thought. At last all the corrupt tinpot dictators and cobweb-covered monarchs will be driven from the Balkans. The citizens have prevailed in Bulgislavia--certainly it won't be long before they do here in Balkania...
But for all his optimism, something troubled Kostadin deep inside. Something didn't seem right about the glowing reports of peace and prosperity and the will of the people that were coming out of Bulgislavia. He had been hearing whispered rumors of state violence and massive casualties, even of an outright return to the brutal oppression of the Provoce era. But no, that could never happen....and in any event, all that mattered was the perception of the citizens of Balkania. If they saw it was possible to topple a repressive government, they would take matters into their own hands.
Suddenly seized by a bout of restlessness, Kostadin walked out onto the rain-drenched street. It was spring, the skies were soft and grey and the city was perpetually quiet and soggy.
But yes, he noticed, something was different on the streets today. Everywhere he looked people were huddled together talking in low, worried voices. Newspapers had all sold out. He even saw a small group of students subtlely dressed in the national colors of Bulgislavia. Everyone's mind turned eastward, across the border, to the unknown land in which something extraordinary had just happened.
It rained all over the whole country that day, the cool and peaceful rain embracing the land one last time before the inevitable....One last day of peace before the conflagration, thought Kostadin.
Suddenly Kostadin was overwhelmed by a nameless sadness and bitterness. The regime had to topple, revolution was not only inevitable but necessary, and the good of the Balkanian people depended on it....but looking at the quiet city in the rain, the glistening wet cobblestones in the old town, the mist over the river, the birds flying overhead and sounding their lonely call.....Kostadin ducked into an alleyway and began to weep.

OOC: The US army flattened one of the best armed armies in the world like it was a group of 5 year olds with pea shooters. Notquiteaplace would do the same to the US with a fraction of it's forces, but it was the after effects that were the problem.
Unlike the US, notquiteaplace *has* had a war on it's own soil, and very recently, so they're very very sensitive to the consequences apon civilians. Their main enemy in invading you is that they'd rather retreat and come back later than risking large civilian casualties.
IC: Notquiteaplace would like it's people flown out the country or escorted to the nearest neutral territory as soon as possible, we will be leaving a military presence in your area for the near future but it's mobilisation or otherwise will depend on how your regime change unfolds, and how our hostages are handled...

The attack had halted for now due to the risk of civilian casualties, but first, they needed to debrief the carnival attendees and find out what's going on.
Notquiteaplace's forces in the region will be cut back considerably, we will be patrolling routes between the two nations and keeping a small fleet present, but that's it for now.
Papers all over notquiteaplace this morning are covered in headlines "Notquiteaplace guns don't go off", "Notquiteplace afraid to use it's huge weapons" and various other knob gags. While the military await results of the debrief before they act further.
Albert Narth himself is waiting with them, waiting to see if he can sleep tonight or will be up discussing attacks.
