Operation Wounded Snake (NU Only)

Orbath

The training of Orbathian soldiers, and thus, the Royal Orbathian Foreign Legion was one of the most important things a military officer could ever focus on. A great Orbathian General once said, ''Give an Orbathian a bolt action rifle, he'll fight with it like an expert. Give him modern equipment and an assault rifle, he'll be unstoppable.'' Every Orbathian was rigorously trained throughout their career making them highly effective, highly disciplined and highly respected fighting force. When the Royal Orbathian Foreign Legion was first created, there were worries that they wouldn't stand up to the usual types of training and more importantly, the more focused training given to them. Essentially the ROLF were to become experts a delivering relief to civilians, often in war torn environments. This made convoy defense a top priority.

Present Day, 11:00
A very small column of vehicles consisting of a two Lyran made LY83 Fox light vehicles (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=13386801), one in front, one in the rear, both armed with Yanitarian made HMGY-147 Hag heavy machine gun bumped down a dirt road. Between these, but not too close, was a military transport made in The New True Cross. It was up armored, featuring steel plating and a roof ring mount on the roof of the cab allowed a soldier to provide firepower. The truck held only a few soldiers, but more importantly, construction materials.

The convoy snaked along the roads, they were approaching an area where they were to link up with the Yanitarian Foreign Legion.

Order of Battle
Soldiers - 20 including 7 combat engineers
Vehicles - 2 LY83 Fox Vehicles, 1 Military Transport.

Participants
Orbath - Convoy
Yanitaria - Convoy

Greal - Ambush
Stoklomolvi - Ambush
HOB - Ambush

Anselmus - Observer

Note - Because the convoy is hopefully going to have a really hard time, their goal will either to be escape, or hold on until reinforcements arrive. Reinforcements will likely be in the form of another convoy and will arrive ICly 30 minutes after the ambush.

Others from NU welcome!

Ahead of the convoy the countryside rose on both sides of the road. To the left of the convoy limestone cliffs abutted the route, to the right large foot hills gave way to highland moors.

The rebels lay in the rubble of a rocky outcropping on the foot hills. Their once white robes were now tattered and grayed from the years of national conflict, but they aided the men, helping them meld in with the desolate landscape.

Their stolen pickup truck had been left on the far side of the hill, in a shallow valley, behind a large boulder pile.

The men watched from their position as a column of dust rose from the roadway as the convoy drew nearer. They went about their business of checking their Type 56's, and loading the PKM machine guns. Then the group split into two and one unit moved down the road approximately 70 meters.

The road spikes and explosives had been set earlier. Now the men would wait until the convoy reached them, their wheels were blown out, and the rock slides triggered.

Order of Battle
Soldiers - 9 soldiers (2 PKM's, and 9 Type 56's)
Vehicles - 1 crappy Toyota pickup truck.

OOC: Couldn't we made the convoys bigger? Like 500 men or something, they are moving through a city and get ambushed and have to fight in urban areas....

When it comes to this type of RP, I like using smaller units because I can make things more personal. As the units and the battles become larger, the death or injury of a soldier becomes much less significant.

As for both scenarios, that is a good idea. As I stated in you-know-where, I've done this type of thing before, only in an urban setting, so I wanted to try something a bit different. Perhaps after this, we can get another going, this time in an urban setting.

OOC: [Insert smart comment here. So, might I be part of the second convoy?]
Do you mean reinforcements? Since I want the attackers to have a bit of an edge, perhaps you could join that side. If your really keen on the convoy, reinforcements is certainly an option.

So, shall we get this going then.

IC:
The crappy dirt road on which the convoy had been bumping along turned paved as they linked up with the Yanitarian group, one sign that perhaps they would soon be reaching the city. A brief glance at the GPS by the commander, told the true story. Not only did they still have quite the distance, the area they were about to go through was a superb area for ambush, though earlier UAV patrols hadn't spotted anything.

ROLF Transport Truck
Pte Shuck sat in the bed of the transport truck, helmet pulled low, gripping his rifle and looking out into the distance, checking for any signs of a threat. He broke the eerie silence, explaining his feeling about the mission to his comrades.

''Another boring mission by the looks of things.''

They kept their eyes locked in the distance, but a Yanitarian ROFL legionnaire replied back in a thick french accent,

''I had more fun in training.''

The convoy continued along the road, approaching a high cliff on the left, and many rolling hills on the right.

OOC: One more thing, Yanis, are we going to mix our convoy together, I was thinking something like this.

Y will represent your vehicles, O will represent mine. F will represent an Orbathian Fox vehicle. I hope you can actually understand it :p.

Y-O(F)-O-O(F)-Y

This way we have the stronger, more blast resistant vehicles taking the lead, so if an IED were to hit, hopefully your vehicle could take it. In the event of a road block on either the front or rear, you could plow right through it. Even if your lead vehicle was disabled, my Foxes could likely still drive around it.

"You ready?"

"I'm ready."

"lets go people." said the leader. The group moved silently and was now at a road. They could hear sounds of a small convoy nearby, so the group quickly crossed the road and took up positions on the small hills overlooking the convoy.

"Lets show them who's boss." said then leader's second in command. He aimed his M16 and waited.

As the enemy convoy went along the small hills the group was on the leader signaled the machine gun to open fire.

The machine gun opened up on the front vehicle. A frag grenade was rolled down the hill toward the convoy. The leader loaded his m16 and opened fire. The rest of the group did the same.

Orbath, that's fine. Just a note, though while many Yanitarians speak with a french accent, the poorer Yanitarii, who are most likely the ones to join foreign legions, speak with a Norwegian accent. Just a nitpick, though, and you shouldn't edit your post, because there are probably Arkadians that would have joined for one reason or another. Especially since I think I sent some officers from my legion or army or something, who are very likely to be Arkadians.

The guerrilla leader watched as his co-attackers began spraying the convoy with machine gun fire. In its opening seconds, the small battle seemed to be going as planned. He and his men were positioned farther down the road than the initial attackers, and were tasked with stopping the convoy in the kill-zone, a task to be completed with a recently-acquired SMAW and a few HEAA rockets. The lead vehicle was Yanitarian-made and robust, but certainly no match for what was about to come.

The leader looked to his left at the two-man SMAW team lying prone and nodded. They remained lying down and went through the motions of loading and firing the weapon at the lead vehicle in the convoy, preparing to rise up only when actually firing. The process complete, the two men jumped to a kneeling position and unleashed the rocket, which flew straight and true to its target.

Vasili, Hans, Albrecht, and Vladimir sat behind a rocky crag, staring down at the road below. They were surrounded with sandbags, and Commissar Vladimir's MG sat deployed but with no bullets loaded in. Albrecht, the scout, was on the other side of the road, in a tree, staring down the road with his rifle. Vasili had broken his leg in a battle against the Siberian Natives a few weeks ago, and had been sent to intercept a convoy. He stood next to the MG, and loaded the gun with a large strip of bullets as Vladimir sat behind the MG, watching. Hans watched them work with the gun as he held his AK-108 in his hands, and after the gun was loaded they sat there, silent. Hans pulled out a pack of cigarettes.

"Well, enjoy it while it lasts, I suppose."

Vladimir and Vasili both took a cigarette. Hans pulled out a lighter. He clicked it, and Vladimir took a puff of the cigarette. The wind picked up, and Hans could not light Vasili's cigarette. He shook it around, and Vasili placed his hand around the cigarette, and it lit. He also took a puff. They sat in silence. Vladimir smiled at the thought of being with his comrades, but it faded into a frown as he thought about how this would be the last "battle" he would ever fight. Hans leaned against the sandbag.

"I wonder how they're doing back on the eastern front."

Vladimir shrugged.

"Well, Siberian Natives live primarily underground, so they're just going to starve them to death."

"How evil."

All of them snickered. Albrecht raised his hand and formed a V with his fingers. Vladimir pulled out his binoculars.

"Enemy in sight, he said."

He readied his gun.

OOC: Why the MG-42 clones? Are RPKs too good for you? Also, Anselmus, I am going to RP the events leading up to the rocket attack, since there is a moment.

Lance Corporal Hans "Bunny Ears" Bjerring was, quite frankly, bored. They had almost reached the city, and it wouldn't be long before he could relax, and maybe listen to some decent music. At the moment, the driver was playing a song from a band named Tool, and while he liked it, it simply wasn't the sort of band he'd listen to back home.

A song about the callous, vicarious thrill that people from more capitalistic nations attained from watching the evening news started. The opening lines only seemed out of place in this beautiful forest, where he could hardly believe anything bad could happen.

"Killed by the husband"
"Drowned by the ocean"
"Shot by his own son"
"She used a poison in his tea
and kissed him goodbye"
That's my kind of story.
It's no fun 'til someone dies

The clouds parted a bit, and the warm sun poured down on his helmet. The sights on his gun glinted, sending a sharp glare right into his eyes. He shifted the gun from the up position to the firing position, and grasped the handles firmly.

Cause I need to watch things die
From a distance
Vicariously, I
Live while the whole world dies
You all need it too - don't lie.

The convoy entered an area of small, rolling hills, that was less heavily forested. The Lance Corporal's training had told him that this is an excellent area from which to fire a rocket. His ears perked, and he scanned the hills.

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit,
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'
Neither the brave nor bold
Will write us a story. So,
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'

As Maynard James Keenan sang the syllables, they seemed to have been matched by the roar of a machine gun. 5.56mm rounds plinked off of the armour of the heavy SLT-31, causing the convoy to grind to a halt. The Legionnaires shifted towards the back, getting ready to exit the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Bunny Ears was opening up with 14.5mm machine gun, using his superior training to stay calm and aim his weapons heavy rounds. The next words of the song were almost Ironic.

I need to watch things die
From a good safe distance

The rocket, a High Explosive Anti-Armour, rocked the vehicle, slamming into the engine at an angle. Bjerring caught a glimpse of the SMAW team, just before swinging the gun around. The hot air rush up and out of the turret hatch.

The HEAA round was itself the problem. While it was excellent at destroying heavy armour, it was a victim of it's own narrow scope. The minimal blast of chemical explosive pierced the engine block, melting it's way forward and breaking through into the crew compartment, killing the driver, and making the vehicle unbearably hot. However, while the vehicle and driver were both out of commission, the troops in the back were, for the most part, unharmed.

Bjerring, realizing that the rockets were an extreme threat, brought his gun to bear and started attacking them directly. Meanwhile the troops in the back jumped out and executed their stand by emergency ambush tactic. From early on in basic training, every Yanitarian soldier is taught that the only way to successfully counter ambushes, consistently, is to immediately charge forward and close with the enemy.

The reasoning behind this is that in order to hide oneself adequately, and set up an ambush, one often has to place themselves in dense brush, which often limits mobility. Further, in any situation, it is hard to shift a unit's base of fire, and therefore a charge at the enemy, while yelling a battle cry is often disheartening, and downright scary.

And finally, it is certain death to sit in the kill zone of an enemy. Anything is better than simply sitting there. And so, with their bayonets fixed, and with the Yanitarian battle cry echoing through the forest. The troops from the vehicle charged the enemy position. Although they were not with out losses. The Sergeant and a private had already been taken down, and in addition to the death of the driver, there had already been 3 losses to the convoy.

Meanwhile, at the end of the convoy, the second SLT drove to the side of the road. Lance Corporal Daren Smyth, of Errikland, opened up on the troops in the hill, as the soldiers in the back exited the vehicle. With another yell, they charged the forces firing the M16s.

The guerrilla leader watched the two men of his SMAW team get cut down by the heavy machine gun fire from the immobilized Yanitarian vehicle with detachment. No stranger to death, the man had been fighting against Anselmian forces in areas of Mariana torn apart by violence for years. He knew that more malleable youngsters would take their place. Now, that task at hand.

The insurgent turned his attention to the road, from which a group of the remaining Yanitarian soldiers were now charging his men, lying prone and entrenched in previously-prepared shallow fighting positions. He briefly admired their courage before aiming coolly down the sights of his SLR and opening fire. Not needing any encouragement, his men followed his lead. The M60 gunner unleashed his hail of lead, accompanied by the grenadier's lethal M203 rounds. A couple of the riflemen cooked off a pair of frag grenades and lobbed them in the Yanitarians' path.

The guerrilla leader did not know precisely why he and his men were in this land, killing men who posed no direct threat to his beloved homeland, only that he had to follow instructions. And he would to the death.

The calm serenity and beauty of the surrounding landscape as well as the peaceful silence were quickly broken by the sounds of gunfire, apparently directed towards the lead vehicle, a slightly worn, YFL SLT-31. The bullets bounced harmlessly off of the armor, but it was still as cause for concern. They were being ambushed. The Orbathian vehicles quickly came to a halt, gunners turning and preparing to engage the threat.

Just then, a rocket was shot from somewhere on the hillside, soaring quickly towards its target, the SLT-31 and smashing into it. From his position, manning the HMGY-147 on his LY83 Fox, not only could Cpl Matthews see the rocket smash into the vehicle, causing it to rock and by the looks of things, entering right into it.

Luckily Matthews had his weapon trained towards the hills, so he immediately brought his weapon to bear on the area where the rocket had come from. The noise of his weapon soon mixed with a 14.5mm gun from the SLT-31, creating quite the racket. As this happened, he watched as the troop compartment opened, soldiers exiting and charging forward.

In certain situations, the Orbathians would have done the same, however, with valuable supplies to protect and those ahead that might possibly be injured, doctrine changed. The commander in his vehicle broadcast a message over the radio, feeding each vehicle and its occupants instructions.

Immediately, soldiers burst from the vehicles. The fire team that had been in his vehicle, used it as cover briefly. The Gunner put down suppressive fire, while the other three members rushed forward, charging through the open and reaching the SLT-31.

Behind, the man using the Hag on the truck opened fire on the hills, taking care to fire over the Yanitarian's heads. This was made easier by the fact that most of the enemy positions were located on the hills. Although the fire wasn't necessarily accurate, even if it didn't hit anyone, it would certainly suppress them.

The troops which had been riding inside the truck dismounted. Those with heavier machine guns charged forward to the edge of the road, down into the ditch and lay prone, adding their fire power to the mix. The remaining soldiers split, some rushing forward behind their Yanitarian counter parts, yet instead of crashing through the brush, put some distance between themselves and the vehicles before laying down fire on the men that had begun firing at the Yanitarians, some taking positions nearby, scanning the cliffs for activity. The last group, was a fire team plus a medic which, rushed towards the SLT-31, using the vehicles as cover.

Behind him, the other LY83 Fox gunner laid down more fire, unleashing round after round.

[OOC: I want to use MG42s because they're cool looking and I haven't designed an MG thing of my own yet.]

Vladimir heard gunfire and rumbling in the distance. He motioned his hand.

"Listen."

They sat and waited. After a while, Albrecht stuck a fist up and pointed forward with two fingers. Vladimir stuck up a rock. Albrecht did the thumbs up. He peered down his scope, and laid it on what appeared to be a corporal in the distance, with his hands waving around and the contour of his lips moving erratically. He made sure the crosshair was above the target's head by a tiny amount to compensate for bullet drop, and fired a single shot. He pulled the bolt, and peered again.

The two rebel fire teams melted deeper into the scrubby brush and rock scree that littered the hillside. The fighting had broken out about 250 meters down road from their first position. 300 meters up road of the convoy the spike strips and explosives lay in wait for any vehicles attempting to flee.

The foremost fire team watched the battle while the posterior team watched up road for any reinforcements from the city that might have been called in.

''Crack!''
The sound of rifle fire echoed throughout the hills, louder than the weapons of the soldiers that were currently locked in battle.

Pte Jackson saw the man go down. He was a Cpl and he just gone down on his knee, raising his rifle to take aim at an ambusher and at the same time, yelling and pointing out the attackers presence to those around him. Pte Jackson aimed at the CPL's targets' head and fired, hoping to put a round between the mans eyes. The Cpl may have just saved his life, now it was his turn to return the favor, should the man still be alive. Before that though, he needed to inform the unit about the sniper. He pulled his headset closer to his mouth,

''Oscar Whisky Sierra, we have hostile sniper fire coming from an unknown location, I say again, hostile sniper fire.''

As Pte Jackson crawled towards the Cpl, the unit commander heard the message. Motioning to the trucks' driver, he instructed the man to pop smoke.

The driver, rushed to the truck, opened the door and staying low, flipped a button which caused smoke grenades on the sides of the truck to fly out and detonate.

As the smoke began to pour out in billowing clouds, the medic and the fire team reached the SLT-31. Climbing into the back, the medic could see that the driver, or what was left of him, wasn't alive. This time it was the medics turn to get on the radio.

''Sun ray this is Starlight, I've checked out the SLT, the driver is dead, over.''

The unit commander responded.

''Understood, Starlight, out.''

It was now up to the unit commander to make a tough decision. On one hand, he could stay behind and fight, hopefully taking few losses and assisting his Yanitarian comrades. On the other hand, he could flee, heading for the city. He would likely take less casulties and would be able to deliver the much needed supplies. The Yanitarians were still in pretty good shape, and reinforcements would hopefully soon be arriving.

He decided to consult the Yanitarian commander.

''YFL, this is ROLF, I'm not sure whether to continue to provide support or head for the city. What do you recommend? If we flee, I may be able to get some of your injured into the truck.''

Albrecht looked at the three men sitting behind the camouflaged sandbags. He stuck his index finger in the air and pointed it at the general direction of the enemy, and then stuck a fist in the air. Vladimir shook his head.

"They've spotted him."

Hans groaned.

"Great.

Albrecht peered down his scope once more, only to see a big cloud of white smoke. He quietly climbed down from his tree and crouch-walked across the rocky soil to the large rocky hill ahead of him. Looking up, he saw heavy tree cover in one area and light tree cover in another. He climbed up a tall tree that was covered in leaves, and noticed that he could see the firefight again instead of smoke. He aimed down his scope at another ranked man, and took another shot. Immediately after firing, he climbed down the tree and sat on the ground. He pulled the bolt. Then, he crouch-walked down the slope of the hill to a small stream, where he set down his pack. He went prone and crawled over to an area where he could see the firefight from eye level, pulled out his rifle, peered down the scope, and took a shot. He crawled away to his pack, and put it back on. He ran into the woods and climbed another tree.

Back at the sandbag entrenchment, Vladimir sat, fingers tensing. Vasili was shaking, knowing that he would likely never again see his wife or his children back at home. Hans wiped his gun, covered in his sweat, with a rag.

OOC: Sorry for the crap post, I have designing to do.

The M203 grenades landed near the SLT, with one exploding on the crew compartment ravaging the seats that had once contained 6 soldiers. The cargo, which consisted of two crates of rations and ammo broke, with a few bullets igniting and ripping apart the interior. Bunny Ears was badly wounded by shrapnel, and by bullets to the legs. Unknown to him, a grenade fragment had severed his spine.

"MEDIC!" He cried, as the music continued to play, alternating words with static. Outside the Captain watched from the ditch as his men charged up the hill near his position a grenade detonated, the sound quickly followed by a second grenade up the hill. One more man had been lost to enemy fire, leaving just two legionnaires to charge up the hill, himself providing fire support with his rifle, and the men of the second vehicle.

Over his head set, he heard the Orbathian speak. 'YFL, this is ROLF, I'm not sure whether to continue to provide support or head for the city. What do you recommend? If we flee, I may be able to get some of your injured into the truck.'

In his thick Stoklomolvi accent, the former criminal turned legionnaire hurriedly spoke, "I've lost almost an entire vehicle crew. I think there are only 4 of us left, just go. We'll give them a reason to stick around until you are clear, just get to the city. If you make it we'll call in a big air strike, or surrender, or something. Get the hell out of here, and take my other vehicle with you."

The Bunny Ears and the other driver, who he assumed was still alive, he roared into the mic, "pop smoke, and rear vehicle, take the lead out of here." While the driver of the rear SLT had no problem popping his smoke, and gathering up the infantry, Bunny Ears did. With a severed spin, most of his body was simply dead weight.

With great pain, he reached out and smashed the smoke aiming panel, pushing the smoke canisters to fire towards the Anselmians. It took an even greater effort to deal with the agony that such movements caused him. Still, with thoughts of his comrades in him mind, he slammed a fist of on the deployment button, firing smoke towards the ambushers.

The leader, happy at the enemy losses, fired his M16 at the charging enemy, aiming at the leg or the head. The machine gun crew aimed their machine gun at the charging enemy and let off a volley.

One of his men went down, he wasn't sure how he got hit.

The rebels watched as a long vehicle made its way down the road from the direction of the city. As it approached the area that had been mined a plume of smoke and earth, followed by a loud crack was observed. The vehicle ground to a halt in the road as its occupants dizzily tried to exit the vehicle.

The first rebel fire team waited until five or so soldiers had started moving away from the car. Once they were in the open, stranded between the cover of the forest and their vehicle the first fire team open up on them with their PKM.

The second fire team remained hidden some 75 meters down the road and watched to see what damage was done to the fleeing men.

IC:

The guerrilla leader cursed as his vision was completely obscured by smoke. As far as he could tell in the chaos of the firefight, he had lost another man in addition to his two-man SMAW team. With his inability to see, he could either move from his position and try and take on the convoy at close range, or simply fire blindly into the smoke. He knew his allies were opening fire at the same time and waiting farther up the road to destroy anything that attempted to escape. So he decided to keep his men in place, and have one section shift fire to the visible troops farther down the line, leaving another section to deal with the remaining charging Yanitarians.

''Crack...Crack!''
The distinct sound of sniper fire reverberated through the hills. One bullet struck a Pte, killing him instantly in a spectacular bloody mist. The second bullet soared luckily by a Cpl, who had just gone prone.

Damaged SLT-31
The medic had entered the vehicle, while the remaining members of the fire team took up positions outside. The rifle grenade soared into the troop compartment and when it detonated, it instantly killed the medic.

Convoy
From the troop truck and the LY83, more smoke was popped, this time, creating larger smoke clouds which would hopefully begin obscuring the entire convoy from view. The Orbathians were ordered to fall back and while vehicle gunners provided covering fire, the troops began getting into the vehicles, dragging dead and wounded comrades, including a YFL legionnaire back to the vehicles.

A hand signal from the rear LY83 instructed the rear SLT-31 to pull ahead of the convoy and take the lead, while the rest of the vehicles slowly lurched forward, gunners ceasing fire to avoid hitting their YFL counterparts who by now, were likely quite close to the enemy.

Albrecht heard gunfire from behind him, and noticed bullets impacting in the grass and rocks to his left. He tossed a stone in the general area of impact, and then tossed his sandwich and ketchup container in that area as well. He climbed down and instantly went prone and crawled on the ground before hiding behind a large log, where he pulled the bolt on his gun. He peered through the scope to see enemy soldiers firing at him from heavy vehicles, and he took a single shot before pulling the bolt again and crawling away. He hid behind a large rock, where he rested for a moment.

Meanwhile, Vladimir had his gun pointed at the soldiers running around on the road below. If he did not fire, then the convoy would survive; if he did, then he would die. He looked at Hans and Vasili. Both were looking down at the enemy convoy, while Hans had put away his rag and raised his gun. He nodded. Vladimir sighed, and pulled the trigger on the MG as Vasili fed the bullets into the gun. The MG spat bullet after bullet at the convoy below, and Hans started shooting with his AK-108.

Luckily the smoke cloud had obscured the view of the rocket crew and therefore, on their first shot, they overshot the convoy completely, the rocket smashing into the cliff causing rubble to fall. The second however, smashed angrily into the side of the last LY83 hitting it and as it began to tip, detonating inside, killing the entire crew.

The convoy was now, hopefully on its way to freedom. They had made it around the wreck of the SLT-31 and were now speeding along an open stretch of road. The lead LY83 pulled over, allowing the truck to pass and taking position in the rear of the convoy.

He noticed another convoy coming up, and started to fire on it as Hans continued to shoot at the Norsikians. Luckily, Orbathian doctrine stated that in most cases, the maximum amount of armor was to be utilized whenever possible. This meant that both the LY83 and troop truck had been sufficiently armored to protect against small arms fire. The issue was, neither vehicle was capable of taking many hits.

As soon as the machine gun fire began, the gunner on the truck turned and began spraying the enemy position with lead. This was made much easier by the fact that the enemy had begun to reload.

Deciding to take a chance, a grenadier in the truck bed loaded his M-203 and popped up over the rail, aimed at the enemy position and fired, hoping that even if he didn't hit the enemy, he would at least suppress them.

The MG fire was wildly impacting all around them, though most fortunately the machine gun did not hit the three men. Vladimir kept firing until the grenade exploded in front of him, stunning him for a moment. Vasili quickly grabbed his shoulder and sat him down while he manned the gun himself, despite having a broken leg. Hans pulled out his stick grenade and threw it as hard as he could at the convoy, and then continued to fire with his AK-108. Vladimir, still trying to get his bearings, clutched the sandbag while staring into the sky.

Albrecht was far away from the convoy at this point, and he felt safe for the moment. He climbed a tree and looked into his scope. He noticed a machine gunner firing on what appeared to be the position of his allies, and calculated distances in his head. He compensated for bullet drop and estimated bullet travel time, and pulled the trigger.

As the machine gun fire momentarily ceased, the soldiers in the truck bed used the opportunity to lay down even more fire. Popping up over the railing, a machine gunner began spraying the position with his Lucy, meanwhile, his section mates utillized their AY-143s with greater accuracy, taking semi automatic pot shots, at the man behind the gun.

As they did this, another soldier could be seen, he cranked his arm back and threw a grenade, then let loose with his AK-108. Luckily, even with the height advantage the grenade didn't reach close enough to kill, however, one soldier ended up with a freak piece of metal embedded in his helmet.

Several of the soldiers turned and fired upon Hans, however one was struck down by his rifle fire.

The LY83s' gunner joined in, peppering the machine gun nest with fire.

''Crack''
The deadly accurate sniper fired, putting a round right through the truck gunner's helmet. The passenger inside the cabin quickly realized that the gun had ceased firing and he climbed into the back seat, pulled the body down, and manned the gun, spraying a short burst at Vasili before ordering those in the truck bed to get down. they complied, pressing themselves onto the bed.The new truck gunner climbed back into the back seat.

"The five of you! Head to the forest! Chester, help me rig the autofire!" Lieutenant Drew Miller screamed as he connected his PDA to the interface port on the side of the BIONIX. It had been totaled, but the second vehicle was unharmed. It was Firing into the forest, making a beeline to the Orbathian vehicles some 50 Metres ahead. The five soldiers dashed to the forest, careful not to make too much of a target. Fat lot of good it did them, as the growl of a PKM tore into the air. 3 of the soldiers kere killed instantly, and one more had his knee blown off. His eyes widened before he collasped into a bloody mess. That was no Machine gun. The last soldier plunged into the thick underbush.

Drew swore, then he spied a lone tracer from the Gunner's Ammo-belt. Grinning, he used the optics on the bushmaster to delebrately aim, then let loose with it, along with the 7.62.

The second BIONIX Commander could spy the Orbathians Just ahead. He stepped on the Gas, hoping to link up and lend his firepower to the fight. The Gunner swung his Mk.44 to where he could spot the heat from a Machine gun in his IR optics. He revved up the chain gun before letting loose with a hail of shells.

Fire Team 1 had expected the land-mine to completely disable the lead Norsikian vehicle -it had not- and now they were taking fire from the Bushmaster and 7.62. The boulders of the rock-slide they had been hiding in suddenly became a maelstrom as the Bushmaster rounds sent rock and dirty flying.

The PKM's gunner and belt feeder saw the barrel flash twice on the Bushmaster before they were obliterated. The remaining three members of Fire Team 1 had been observing from cover and were not pinned down completely - to terrified by the hell-storm being sent their way to budge. As the rounds continued to impact the boulders they were hidden behind exploded spraying them with debris. When the dust started to settle one of the members had received an enormous gash in his upper thigh. He was screaming but the leader of the fireteam covered the man's mouth and placed his rifle on his temple indicating that he should shut-up.

Fire Team 2

Fire Team 2 watched as the second Norsikian vehicle raced past the first directly towards more mines and spike strips. They remained low waiting for the vehicle to become disabled. They also observed that the Orbathian convoy seemed to have escaped the initial ambush and was heading their way. As the convoy approached the correct spot the leader of Fire Team 2 detonated the explosives that had been set earlier. Th explosion reverberated between the cliffs and the hill side and the men watched as rock from the cliff fell into the road ahead of the convoy.

"Get down."

Vasili and Hans were still firing when Vladimir tugged on Vasili's sleeve, noticing that there were several heavy weapons pointed at them. Hans was too late, and a bullet impacted in his left arm. He groaned and fell over, clutching his arm and trying to stop the bleeding with a thin rag. Vasili attempted to crouch even with his broken leg and applied a type of medicine alongside a large bandage on Hans' arm. He sat there for a while as machine gun fire hit their position. After a moment, Vladimir and Vasili both got up and began opening fire again on the Orbathian position. Vladimir reached down and lobbed a grenade at the Norsikians directly below him before pulling out a M79 grenade launcher and firing it directly at the Norsikians and throwing it backwards. He continued to suppress the Orbathians.

Meanwhile, Albrecht was becoming worried by the seemingly never-ending stream of men appearing from every direction, such as the Norsikians who mysteriously just appeared out of the ground in front of the MG nest. Angry, he peered into his scope and spotted the Norsikian team. He pulled out a C4 out of his standard pack and slowly crawled to the enemy position. His IR signature matched his surroundings due to his ghillie suit, and as such the enemy would likely not find him before he tossed the C4. As he neared the Norsikian convoy, he noted the engine and the fuel tank, and debated on which to attach the C4 to. He then decided to attach it to the fuel tank, which would likely violently explode due to the properties of oil-based products. Within range, he activated the C4 and crawled close enough as to attach it to the tank before crawling into a ditch and back into the forest. After getting far enough, with the remaining bullet in his gun he sought to fire one last time at the Orbathians before reloading. He peered into the scope, calculated in his mind, and pulled the trigger once more.

''Boom!''
The explosion went off, sending a mountain of rubble down onto the road below. The entire road was covered by quite the mound. The ROLF truck would never be able to make it around or over. The convoy grinded to a halt once again. The convoy had already lost one two vehicles and many soldiers. Not only that, they now sat, liking sitting ducks, in front of an impassible object. On the other hand, many died to allow them to make it as far as they did and the people ahead needed the supplies. The question was, would they be able to continue, and even they made it through, could they survive a possible attack. The Orbathian commander believed they could not. Although he felt he should consult the YFL commander, there simply wasn't time. Once and if they made it back, he would volunteer to drive the truck himself if he had to. He got on the radio,

''Foxtrot Two, turn around and give Tango 1 room to turn around. Tango 1 turn around. If the YFL vehicle decides to follow, have it take the rear this time.''

''Crack!''
Suddenly another sniper's bullet hit someone, this time the LY83 gunner, in the head, killing him instantly. This prompted the vehicles to once again use smoke. As the vehicles began to turn, the soldiers dismounted, giving the enemy machine gun position everything they had, machine gun fire, assault rifle fire, frag and rifle grenades, they used whatever they had, trying one last time to defeat the enemy before they retreated.

I'm trying to make epic character deaths, and you're not helping.

Fire Team 2 watched as the convoy came to a halt and turned to about face. As the lead vehicle was beginning its turn the PKM gunner opened fire on it from the rock slide, sending 650 rounds per minute at the Orbathians.

OOC: HOB, what about my smoke? I'm going going to assume you fire into the cloud. If you want to change it, I'll just delete my post.

From within the thick billowing cloud of white smoke, the troops could hear the chatter of machine gun fire. It began ripping through the cloud, sending bullets flying everywhere, some hitting troops, while others hit the vehicles. It was vital that they made it out soon, too much more fire, and a vehicle was going to end up screwed. The soldiers went prone, most of the bullets went overhead, rather than hitting them. Machine gunners turned and fired in the general direction while grenadiers loaded up their M-203s and waited.

The LY83 had rapidly turned around and now the truck slowly made it's turn. The grenadiers sprung into action, firing grenades in the direction of the machine gun fire as the smoke began to clear. The everyone stopped firing, making a desperate run for the vehicles.

[Sry about that, yeah just assume that we were firing into the smoke.]

Fire Team 2

As the PKM had opened fire the remaining two members of Fire Team 2 had started to move diagonally down the slope in the direction the convoy was starting to turn.

As the smoke started to clear they heard an explosion go off behind them. Hitting the deck they looked back up hill. The rock slide they had come from was obscured by rising dust and smoke. At almost the same moment they realized the PKM had stopped firing. Were their comrade dead? The thought raced through their minds.

Incensed the two turned their rifles down slope and started taking potshots at the silhouettes of the fleeing Orbathians.

Back uphill the PKM gunner kicked at rubble covering his legs. His blurred vision came to rest on his ammo feeder. The man's face was faced down in the dirty, he was breathing too hard and blood was dipping from his left ear.

As they dove into their vehicles, the machine gun fire from the PKM ceased. Still, rifle fire could be heard and bullets impacted around various soldiers The vehicles turned and began to flee, as the smoke cloud cleared. They knew that they were about to go back through what was likely a war zone but they didn't care, it was the only option.

As the lead vehicle of the convoy, the Yanitarian SLT-31, turn, the gunner ducked down, and was handed an AY-143, with an underslung GP-30. With a swift motion, he fired the grenade at the ambushers, before the car swung around to drive around the blocked point.
