The Crimean Economy

Crimean Republic
02-05-2008, 00:11
Any advice on this subject is welcome. I plan on RPing the development of my economy up to modern standards in my first few RP's, but that is only after I have gotten all of the information on my country out of the way, such as my history and military, as well as the basic information on my people, and government.

In the agriculture sector, early commercial farming has taken hold, though much of the countryside still practices subsistence agriculture, mostly wheat, barely and potatoes. Livestock raising is common, consisting mostly of pork and cattle.

Tourism is the dominant industries, based primarily in Yalta and Saduk, where gambling has lead to the creation of medium-sized casinos alongside the majestic, ancient landscapes of the Black Sea communities.

Rail lines connect many of the major cities together. The only major paved road, the Coastal Thoroughfare or CT, runs along the seaside, connecting most of the major cities, located on the coast, to one another. In the interior however, the majority of the national road system remains dirt and gravel, making the rails the only feasible way to transport goods made there to the major markets in Sevastopol and Yalta.

The principle port, Sevastopol, has become run-down in recent years, since fall of the Soviet Union, who maintained the port as a military installation throughout the Cold War. Since the end of the era; however, the port has fallen into disrepair, the dry-docks use seventies-era technology. The Kremlin planned a major renovation scheduled to begin in 1989; however, the plan was scraped as their old empire fell around them. Recently, local citizens have called—in ever increasing numbers and with more and more influence—for the Russians to cede the port back to Crimea, hoping that such an action would allow for the whole port to be allocated to the private sector, creating a boom in the volume of exports the city could ship out, though such demands have been all but ignored by the Russian government.

Despite the relative lack of development and growth within Crimea, extraction of the oil and natural gas deposits in the Black Sea represent the fastest growing industry in the country, as major energy companies have been allowed to exploit their riches en masse for the first time since the government opened up the deposits to drilling by outside companies in 1995. The rise in capital brought about by this industry has lead to jumps in the GDP, though the standard of life for the everyday Crimean has not reflected this.

After the election of the Capital Party to power in 2006, the government has taken an extremely aggressive approach to the development of the financial and business sectors of the economy. In an attempt to encourage major regional and international companies to locate their offices within Crimea, they have installed a system of tax credits that allow for these sorts of enterprises to develop without significant hindrance by taxation and regulation.

Lots of oil and lots of natural gas, and we are centrally located in the Black Sea, with access to all of those markets and we have a extremely stable government (not overthrown since 1945).

The Armed Republic of Cascade States,
wishes to welcome your nation to the international stage,
while economy is greatly important, it is our opinion that you
should invest in your education and environmental quality as well.
It is not widely seen that you can infact provide an industrialized
nation with good and "clean" factories. As seen by the Real life nation's
like Iceland, Greenland and several European nations.
As long as you return money made on investing in industry back into
new cleaner machines and factories, you will build a nation which
can lead the world in production, and have a pleasant stable economy.
Your people will love clean are and reasonably priced goods,
the stability of your nation will attract more investors and tourists too.
If we can assist you in any way,

It is the view of the Crimean Republic that the key to reducing your environmental impact is not to slow industrial development by focusing on minimizing the damage--a process that will in the long run put out just as much pollution--, but by accelerating the process in order to reach a high tech level of development where pollutants are negligible.

We would welcome your investment, and feel free start moving a office or factory to our nation.

Several of our High Tech National companies would like to start
negotiations on building clean factories in your nation and teach
your people to build Computer parts, automobiles and aircraft ect.

We will provide demonstration models of all technologies which are built
in your nation by our companies.
We will also be happy to provide factory goods / licenses to produce them
in your own nation for slightly less than we would normally export them.
Would we be able to see a map of locations in your nation where we could
begin building?
What sort of power distribution sources does your nation currently use?
Do you use fossil fuels or some thing like hydro-electric?
How much energy does your nation produce in a normal year?
Would we be allowed to produce our own power plants ( meeting your nations
pollution control standards of course ) or would we be required to
buy power from your nation's companies?

We look forward to long and good relations with your nation and ours,

The Benevolent Dictator,

Vantanian Conglomerate for an Invisible Empire HQ, New Vantepolis, the Vanteland

"I don't know, Tucker. It seems rather risky..." stated a bald, plump man.

"Nonsense. The Crimean Republic is in the prime stage for investment. The government is Capitalist, most likely easy to corrupt, it's starting to improve itself, currently un-industrialized... It's practically a repeat of Siriusa, but weaker and without those filthy Anarchists! We have to pounce now, before the Vetalians can get a hold of the market!"

"Ah, but what investment opportunities are there?" asked the same man as prior.

"Their public transportation system is in tatters. I personally will invest in a new superhighway to fix this. Meanwhile, it is starting to industrialize, and as thus is more than willing for factories." facing the man directly now, "They even are trying to get an airline through Crimea, Richard. Now, we must get in there!"

The group of businessmen nodded their approval, and even Richard nodded. The debate through, there was a vote; the results came in unanimously in favor of economic imperialism in the Crimean Republic. Soon, a letter was written and sent to the head of state.

As part of the Free Nations Act, we're obliged to assist in whatever Capitalistic means possible, particularily through investment in your nation. -The establishment of a Crimean branch of Anglobal Airlines in airports to be built across the country
-Industrialize the Crimean through Buy & Sell factories
-Give the Crimeans cheap, quality goods via TradeMart stores
-Maximize on efficiency, output, and profit agriculturally through mariculture, vertical farming, subterranean farming, and terracing. Done by Universal Goods and Services
-Feed Crimeans through a fishing fleet owned by MariTime Fishing, as well as Mountain Beverages
-Improve Crimean health through Psyche-Delic Psychiatrics, TransceDental Orthodontics, and other child organizations of LSD Health, Inc.
-Establishment of a reliable bank, the Vantanian First Imperial Bank Company to be exact

The Republic of Ruccola is highly interested in modernising the Crimean Republic's infrastructure, particularly its port facilities, airline industry, railway system and power generation facilities. However, we would like to raise a few questions to clarify the current economic state of affairs.

Given the difficult circumstances surrounding the Port of Sevastopol, what other ports are available for modernisation?
What is the nature of the airline industry within the Crimean Republic?

Today, the Crimean State Duma passed--after much debate on the subject, a bill that allows approved nations to begin investments within Crimea, and manufacture products destined for export out of the country within its borders. The passing of this act is a major victory for the Capital Progress Party and its coalition, and is expected to be signed into law by the Prime Minister within days of when it reaches his desk.

OOC: I will be getting up a map of this as soon as possible. In the interior, there is no major paved roadways, and the only major transportation mode is the rails, which are designed to transport agricultural goods to the major cities along the coast. Telephone lines connect the coastal cities, however, the services are virtually non-existent in the interior, though there are cell phone towers in the more populous agricultural towns. As stated in the above thread, the only major highway is the Coastal Thoroughfare. It is for the most part a four lane highway between the cities, though it narrows and widens in some parts.

Although we would like to investigate the technology further, our nation does not see the benefits of a monorail at this time. If you would wish, you may apply to help modernize Sevastopol's mass transit system by building a monorail within the city. If the government sees this system as a success, then the issue of a nation-wide expansion will be considered.

At this time, Crimea is seeking to re-aquire the Sevastopol port, as it is by far the largest and highest quality port in the nation.

A small airport exists in Yalta, though it only has the capacity for 737's at most. While there is no major airports within Crimea at this time, construction on a large, international airport is underway in Sevastopol.

Theses were the promises made by the Vantanian to the Crimean Republic, and so far it was by and large underway.

All over Crimea, old buildings were being bought up, and some new ones constructed as well. These buildings, old and new, were transformed radically. Fast food restaurant, the White Citadel, was popping up all over the place in both the Interior and Exterior; food there was good, filling, and cheap for the poor peoples of the Republic. In addition, a stunning array of sodas were available, cheap, addicting, and tasty, from Mountain Beverages, Inc. These sodas included such classics as Mountain Stream Soda, Soda Water, Dyspepsi, Cloaca-Cola, Sgt. Pepper's Fizz, Carbonated Soy Milk, Red Minotaur, MonStar, and Hatorade.

Besides the food and drinks invading Crimea, so too were there new stores. TradeMart became a familiar name, as cities and towns all recieved them, often times more than one. They stocked cheap, clean food stuffs from Universal, Inc., as well as a myriad of cheap, quality supplies from Buy & Sell Manufacturing. In the cities, they even had small pharmacy sections and ATM's for First Imperial Bank members. Speaking of which, First Imperial had similarily spread, investing in Interior towns and making lots of money, as people began using this company for mutually-beneficial loans and savings.

Finally, the last Vantanian projects that were in both Interior and Exterior were healthcare, factories, and news groups. LSD Healthcare had established multiple hospitals in all the major cities, and regional hospitals in the Interior. Meanwhile, Buy & Sell Manufacturing was building factories everywhere, building things from arms to toys, promising work for thousands, millions; in fact, unemployment was already decreasing in some of the large cities, where Buy & Sell had managed to get a few factories operational. Finally, on the news front, Tomorrow's News Today and the Vantanian Broadcasting Society were both in fierce competition; TNT and VBS both did intensive journalism, getting juicy stories whilst leaving the local competition in the dust.

In the Interior exclusively, Lord Protector Tucker Boot was financing a major highway system to connect to the CT and link all of the Crimean by road. Every construction company in the Crimean was working on the illustrious "Tucker E. Boot Highway," giving many work. The highway, once completed, was to be financed by tolls, however these would be lower than rail fees, so as to get people off the rail system. As a promotional for the event, TradeMart stores were selling cars, not necessarily modern, for cheap in the Interior. As oil was abundant in the Crimean Republic, there was no large concern for the cost of petrol.

Also in the Interior, Universal Goods and Services was starting large corporate farms where they could. These farms, unlike their neighbors, produced solely cash crops, and cared not for animal rights. Anything and everything was done to insure maximum output and profits. One helpful side effect of this was that Universal hoped it would bankrupt its neighbors, so that it could expand into their lands, increasing their profits, in a vicious cycle.

Meanwhile, in the Exterior exclusively, two things were happening. The first was that Christ, Inc. was establishing new churches and renovating old ones, in an attempt to convert the masses to Christianity; in particular, the churches were submitting themselves to Christ, Inc., allowing profit and expansion of the churces, which at the moment was mutually beneficial. The other Vantanian investment took the form of a large fishing fleet, owned by MariTime, Inc., being rallied, and netting in profits from both the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. Not only did this provide work and profit, it also increased the amount of food available, even though a lot of the fishes were exported where they could make more profit.

All in all, the Vantanians had come, seen, and conquered; they had no intention of leaving.
