Brief Overview:
Unique among African countries, the ancient Ethiopian monarchy maintained its freedom from colonial rule with the exception of the 1936-41 Italian occupation during World War II. In 1974, a military junta, the Derg, deposed Emperor Haile Selassie (who had ruled since 1930) and established a socialist state. Torn by bloody coups, uprisings, wide-scale drought, and massive refugee problems, the regime was finally toppled in 1991 by a coalition of shamanistic forces, the People's Shamanistic Front (PSF). A return to monarchy was adopted in 1994, and Ethiopia's first Shaman King was crowned in 1995.
Shortly after King Amunea Gamunda assumed the Ethiopian crown, the Ethiopian monarch called for a meeting with the leaders of Kenya and Sudan which would prove to be of historical consequences. During the meeting Ethiopia proposed the unification of the three nations based on mutual respect and common geopolitical aims. After five days of deliberations inside the Uba-Wya temple in Addis Ababa, to the surprise of Kenyans and Sudanese both leaders agreed to the unification. When confronted by the media as to what exactly happened in the meeting and why the sudden unification, both leaders responded in unison with the phrase: " One Body - One Mind" and immediately relinquished power to King Gamunda, who went on to legislate shamanism as the official religion after renaming the three-country region as Sudeth-Kya in 1996.
Isolated skirmishes started by newly-formed separatist groups were quickly defeated by the new joint army, known locally as the Royal Shaman Force(RSF).
By 2001 work had begun on the revitalization of ancient cities and temples and by 2006 Sudeth-Kya saw many of its social issues and inner conflicts subside, due in great part to King Amunea Gamunda's efforts to steer the nation towards the reawakening of a spiritual past.
Economicaly, Sudeth-Kya relies on food production and basic resources exports. It has abandoned the cultivation of qat and oilseeds and increased its production of sugar-cane and coffee. King Gamunda, realizing the potential for sugar-cane as a bio-fuel, has plans to begin large scale production of ethanol from sugar-cane in an effort to boost export revenues.
Deforestation and overgrazing were strictly banned by the new monarchy, however these issues are not yet fully resolved. The Shaman Ecological Front(SEF) has been campaigning fiercely across the most remote areas of the nation, where certain fringe groups who earn a living from black market activities such as poaching and illegal logging refuse to accept the new laws. Conflicts between the SEF and the Tribesman for Capitalism Now(TCN) are common near the border with Eritrea.
Sudekyan military is largely comprised of small divisions of guerilla fighters(RSF) equiped with small arms and mobile anti-air units. These divisions are specifically trained for wars of attrition and sabotage against potential attacking nations. However, in the past 3 years, the RSF also finds itself involved in small regional conflicts against the Sudekyan Anti-Reptilian League(SARL), a fringe group which denounces the new King as the puppet of an alien race of reptiles.
Overall, the monarchy, realizing the shortcomings of its undersized military, has chosen to rely on diplomacy and a good neighbor policy. Only a minor percentage of GDP is spent on maintaining the RSF, while a more substantial percentage of GDP is spent erecting Totems around the Sudekyan borders. Most citizens believe these are powerful prevention systems against would be attackers.
