"Welcome back, for those of you just joining us this evening I am Diane Foxfire of the TPRSNNN six o'clock news crew.

"Earlier this week, the normally pro-buisness Curiate Assembly passed resolution BERA:24:14:10 in a surprisingly landslide vote. Having been up for discussion in the Curiate Assembly for some time now, it had become expected that BERA:24:14:10 would eventually be voted down. We now turn to John Rikkal for a more indepth look at BERA:24:14:10."

"Thank you Diane.

"While we are all familiar with the sheer number of legislative changes going through both the Imperium and Curiate Assembly this past year following the Agrandov Conflict, few Sulaymaan citizens are truly aware of just what an impact BERA:24:14:10 can have on them... and just how far from the Curiate Assemblies normal voting record this bill strays.

"Perhaps one of the most anti-business legislations passed in over a decade, BERA:24:14:10 will require all businesses headquartered in the Sulaymaan Republic to pay a fine of nearly 500,000 soums for every breach of their internal policies and code of ethics with a minimum compensation to the employee of eight and a half times their normal wages for every hour worked during the period the code or policy was breached.

"While still providing corporations the right to amend their policies and code of ethics without notice to the employee, all businesses must lodge with the government every revision. Held on record, the fines and charges will be determined based on the policies and code in place during the time of offense. Not the code currently active in the company.

"Even more surprising, is that the Curiate Assembly has allowed in the bill for employees to make claims as far back as five years. These old claims will be processed based on the current standing code and policies in place following the passing of the bill, and the employer will have to pay by default unless they can provide conclusive proof the policy was not breached.

"The only reprieve for corporations given in the bill, is that the fine is reduced to 200 soums a breach, and a maximum compensation of one and a half times normal wages, if the companies adopt a national standard policy and code of ethics. Or companies can absolve themselves completely of all past and present infractions by nationalizing.

"The bill is a move many business professionals claim is a open attempt by the government to muscle corporations into nationalizing, even though the Curiate and Imperium Assemblies passed BERA:12:21:09 three years ago; stating the government would never force a company to nationalize under any pretense. Unfortunately, as lawyers swarm over government records and standing laws, it seems that BERA:24:14:10 is not in violation of BERA:12:21:09.

"Only two days after the bill was passed, two companies have been forced to file bankruptcy already; with retail-giant 'Jollymarks' already negotiating with the Imperium and Curiate Assemblies to be nationalized. Its reported that within ten hours of the bills passing 'Jollymarks' had nearly 15,000 suits filed against it, and by the end of the first day, was in debt nearly 1,000,000,000 soums.

"Hailed by more liberal politicians as the justice the working class deserves, BERA:24:14:10 follows a resolution passed unanimously in the Imperium Assembly calling that all defense contractors in The Republic submit to weekly ethics and policy investigations.

"Not surprisingly, many of the companies currently in a fierce legal battle over what defines a breach of policy are members of the defense industry."
